E fece loro questo comandamento, dicendo: Voi direte così al signor mio Esaù: Giacobbe tuo fratello dice: io andai pellegrino nella casa di Laban, e vi sono stato sino a questo di.
Y mandóles diciendo: Así diréis á mi señor Esaú: Así dice tu siervo Jacob: Con Labán he morado, y detenídome hasta ahora;
And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:
He commanded them, saying, “This is what you shall tell my lord, Esau: ‘This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.
Ho de' bovi, e degli asini, e delle pecore, e de' servi, e delle schiave: e adesso invio messi al signor mio per trovar grazia dinanzi a lui.
Y tengo vacas, y asnos, y ovejas, y siervos y siervas; y envío á decirlo á mi señor, por hallar gracia en tus ojos.
And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.
I have cattle, donkeys, flocks, male servants, and female servants. I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.’”
E tornarono i messi a Giacobbe, e riferirono: Abbiam trovato il tuo fratello Esaù, e questi ecco che viene in fretta ad incontrarti con quattrocento uomini.
Y los mensajeros volvieron á Jacob, diciendo: Vinimos á tu hermano Esaú, y él también viene á recibirte, y cuatrocientos hombres con él.
And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.

S'intimorì Giacobbe grandemente; e pieno di ansietà divise la gente, ch'era seco, e i greggi ancora, e le pecore, e i bovi, e i cammelli in due squadre,
Entonces Jacob tuvo gran temor, y angustióse; y partió el pueblo que tenía consigo, y las ovejas y las vacas y los camellos, en dos cuadrillas;

Dicendo: Se Esaù arriverà, e darà addosso ad una squadra, l'altra squadra, che resta, si salverà.
Y dijo: Si viniere Esaú á la una cuadrilla y la hiriere, la otra cuadrilla escapará.
And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.
He said, “If Esau comes to the one company, and strikes it, then the company which is left will escape.”
E disse Giacobbe: Dio del padre mio Abraham, e Dio del padre mio Isaac: Signore, che dicesti a me: Torna alla tua terra, e al luogo dove sei nato, e io ti farò del bene.
Y dijo Jacob: Dios de mi padre Abraham, y Dios de mi padre Isaac, Jehová, que me dijiste: Vuélvete á tu tierra y á tu parentela, y yo te haré bien;
And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:

Io sono indegno di tutte le tue misericordie, e della fedeltà, colla quale tu hai mantenute le promesse fatte al tuo servo. Solo col mio bastone io passai questo (fiume) Giordano: e ora ritorno con due squadre.

E avendo dormito in quel luogo per quella notte, mise a parte di quello che avea, doni pel suo fratello Esaù,
Y durmió allí aquella noche, y tomó de lo que le vino á la mano un presente para su hermano Esaú:
And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;

Risponderai: Sono di Giacobbe tuo servo; egli manda questi doni al mio signore Esaù: ed egli stesso vien dietro a noi.
Entonces dirás: Presente es de tu siervo Jacob, que envía á mi señor Esaú; y he aquí también él viene tras nosotros.
Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob’s; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.

Simili ordini diede al secondo, e al terzo, e a tutti quelli che andavano dietro ai greggi, dicendo: Nella stessa guisa parlate ad Esaù, quando lo troverete.

You shall say, ‘Not only that, but behold, your servant, Jacob, is behind us.’” For, he said, “I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me.”
Andarono adunque innanzi a lui i doni; ed egli quella notte si stette nello alloggiamento.

E quando furon passate tutte le cose, che a lui appartenevano,
Tomólos pues, y pasólos el arroyo, é hizo pasar lo que tenía.

E questi veggendo, che nol potea superare, toccò a lui il nervo della coscia, il quale subitamente restò secco.
Y como vió que no podía con él, tocó en el sitio del encaje de su muslo, y descoyuntóse el muslo de Jacob mientras con él luchaba.
And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
When he saw that he didn’t prevail against him, the man touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was strained as he wrestled.
E disse a lui: Lasciami andare; che già viene l'aurora. Rispose (Giacobbe): Non ti lascerò andare, se tu non mi benedici.
Y dijo: Déjame, que raya el alba. Y él dijo: No te dejaré, si no me bendices.
And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”
Disse adunque: Qual nome è il tuo? Rispose: Giacobbe.
Y él le dijo: ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Y él respondió: Jacob.
And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob”.
E quegli (disse): Il tuo nome non sarà Giacobbe, ma Israele: perocché se a petto a Dio sei stato forte, quanto più vincerai tutti quanti gli uomini?
Y él dijo: No se dirá más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel: porque has peleado con Dios y con los hombres, y has vencido.
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
He said, “Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
Giacobbe lo interrogò: Dimmi, con qual nome ti chiami? Rispose: Perché domandi del mio nome? E lo benedisse nello stesso luogo.
Entonces Jacob le preguntó, y dijo: Declárame ahora tu nombre. Y él respondió: ¿Por qué preguntas por mi nombre? Y bendíjolo allí.
And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” He said, “Why is it that you ask what my name is?” So he blessed him there.
E Giacobbe pose a quel luogo il nome di Phanuel, dicendo: Ho veduto il Signore faccia a faccia, e l'anima mia ha avuto salute.
Y llamó Jacob el nombre de aquel lugar, Peniel: porque vi á Dios cara á cara, y fué librada mi alma.
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

E il sole venne a nascer subito, dopo che egli si fu avanzato di là da Phanuel: ed egli zoppicava del piede.
Y salióle el sol pasado que hubo á Peniel; y cojeaba de su anca.
And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
The sun rose on him as he passed over Peniel, and he limped because of his thigh.
Per questa ragione i figliuoli d'Israele fino a questo di non mangiano il nervo, che si seccò nella coscia di Giacobbe: perché quegli toccò il nervo della coscia di lui, e (il nervo) restò senza moto. Giacobbe è accolto benignamente da Esaù, che gli va incontro, e a mala pena ottiene, che quegli accetti i suoi doni, e se ne torni a sua casa. Quindi Giacobbe arriva a Salem, e vi compera una parte di un campo, e piantale le tende alza un altare.
Por esto no comen los hijos de Israel, hasta hoy día, del tendón que se contrajo, el cual está en el encaje del muslo: porque tocó á Jacob este sitio de su muslo en el tendón que se contrajo.
Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.
Therefore the children of Israel don’t eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew of the hip.
