And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:

Y tengo vacas, y asnos, y ovejas, y siervos y siervas; y envío á decirlo á mi señor, por hallar gracia en tus ojos.
And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.
I have cattle, donkeys, flocks, male servants, and female servants. I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.’”
und habe Rinder und Esel, Schafe, Knechte und Magde; und habe ausgesandt dir, meinem Herrn, anzusagen, daß ich Gnade vordeinen Augen fande.
Y los mensajeros volvieron á Jacob, diciendo: Vinimos á tu hermano Esaú, y él también viene á recibirte, y cuatrocientos hombres con él.
And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau. He is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”
Die Boten kamen wieder zu Jakob und sprachen: Wir kamen zu deinem Bruder Esau; und er zeucht dir auch entgegen mit vierhundert Mann.

Da fürchtete sich Jakob sehr, und ihm ward bange; und teilete das Volk, das bei ihm war, und die Schafe und die Rinder und die Kamele in zwei Heere.
Y dijo: Si viniere Esaú á la una cuadrilla y la hiriere, la otra cuadrilla escapará.
And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.
He said, “If Esau comes to the one company, and strikes it, then the company which is left will escape.”
Und sprach: So Esau kommt auf das eine Heer und schlagt es, so wird das übrige entrinnen.
Y dijo Jacob: Dios de mi padre Abraham, y Dios de mi padre Isaac, Jehová, que me dijiste: Vuélvete á tu tierra y á tu parentela, y yo te haré bien;
And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:

Weiter sprach Jakob: Gott meines Vaters Abraham und Gott meines Vaters Isaak, HERR, der du zu mir gesagt hast: Zeuch wieder in dein Land und zu deiner Freundschaft, ich will dir wohltun:
Menor soy que todas las misericordias, y que toda la verdad que has usado para con tu siervo; que con mi bordón pasé este Jordán, y ahora estoy sobre dos cuadrillas.
I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.

ich bin geringe aller Barmherzigkeit und aller Treue, die du an deinem Knechte getan hast; denn ich hatte nicht mehr weder diesen Stab, da ich uber diesen Jordan ging, und nun bin ich zwei Heere worden.
Líbrame ahora de la mano de mi hermano, de la mano de Esaú, porque le temo; no venga quizá, y me hiera la madre con los hijos.

And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

Du hast gesagt: Ich will dirwohltun und deinen Samen machen wie den Sand am Meer, den man nicht zahlen kann vor der Menge.
Y durmió allí aquella noche, y tomó de lo que le vino á la mano un presente para su hermano Esaú:
And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;

Und gebot dem ersten und sprach: Wenn dir mein Bruder Esau begegnet und dich fraget: Wem gehorest du an? und wo willst du hin? und wes ist's, das du vor dir treibest?
Entonces dirás: Presente es de tu siervo Jacob, que envía á mi señor Esaú; y he aquí también él viene tras nosotros.
Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob’s; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.
Then you shall say, ‘They are your servant, Jacob’s. It is a present sent to my lord, Esau. Behold, he also is behind us.’”
sollst du sagen: Es gehoret deinem Knechte Jakob zu, der sendet Geschenk seinem Herrn Esau und zeucht hinter uns hernach.
Y mandó también al segundo, y al tercero, y á todos los que iban tras aquellas manadas, diciendo: Conforme á esto hablaréis á Esaú, cuando le hallareis.
And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.

You shall say, ‘Not only that, but behold, your servant, Jacob, is behind us.’” For, he said, “I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me.”
und saget ja auch: Siehe, dein Knecht Jakob ist hinter uns. Denn er gedachte, ich will ihn versohnen mit dem Geschenk, das vor mir hergehet; danach will ich ihn sehen, vielleicht wird er mich annehmen.
Y pasó el presente delante de él; y él durmió aquella noche en el campamento.
So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.

Y como vió que no podía con él, tocó en el sitio del encaje de su muslo, y descoyuntóse el muslo de Jacob mientras con él luchaba.
And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
When he saw that he didn’t prevail against him, the man touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was strained as he wrestled.
Und da er sah, dafi er ihn nicht übermochte, ruhrete er das Gelenk seiner Hüfte an; und das Gelenk seiner Hüfte ward uber dem Ringen mit ihm verrenkt.
Y dijo: Déjame, que raya el alba. Y él dijo: No te dejaré, si no me bendices.
And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”
Und er sprach: Lali mich gehen, denn die Morgenrote bricht an. Aber er antwortete: Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn.
Y él le dijo: ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Y él respondió: Jacob.
And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob”.
Er sprach: Wie heifiest du? Er antwortete: Jakob.
Y él dijo: No se dirá más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel: porque has peleado con Dios y con los hombres, y has vencido.
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
He said, “Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
Er sprach: Du sollst nicht mehr Jakob heifien, sondern Israel. Denn du hast mit Gott und mit Menschen gekampft und bist obgelegen.
Entonces Jacob le preguntó, y dijo: Declárame ahora tu nombre. Y él respondió: ¿Por qué preguntas por mi nombre? Y bendíjolo allí.
And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” He said, “Why is it that you ask what my name is?” So he blessed him there.
Und Jakob fragte ihn und sprach: Sage doch, wie heiliest du? Er aber sprach: Warum fragest du, wie ich heifie? Und er segnete ihn daselbst.
Y llamó Jacob el nombre de aquel lugar, Peniel: porque vi á Dios cara á cara, y fué librada mi alma.
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; for he said, “I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
Und Jakob hiefi die Statte Pniel; denn ich habe Gott von Angesicht gesehen, und meine Seele ist genesen.
Y salióle el sol pasado que hubo á Peniel; y cojeaba de su anca.
And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
The sun rose on him as he passed over Peniel, and he limped because of his thigh.
Und als er vor Pniel uberkam, ging ihm die Sonne auf; und er hinkte an seiner Hüfte.
Por esto no comen los hijos de Israel, hasta hoy día, del tendón que se contrajo, el cual está en el encaje del muslo: porque tocó á Jacob este sitio de su muslo en el tendón que se contrajo.
Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.
Therefore the children of Israel don’t eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew of the hip.
Daher essen die Kinder Israel keine Spannader auf dem Gelenk der Hüfte bis auf den heutigen Tag, darum daß die Spannader an dem Gelenk der Hüfte Jakobs gerühret ward.
