Y SIGUIÓ Jacob su camino, y fué á la tierra de los orientales.

And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well’s mouth.

Por cuanto la costumbre era que después de reunidos todos los hatos de ovejas, removían la piedra, y una vez abrevadas, volvían a ponerla sobre el pozo.
Y juntábanse allí todos los rebaños; y revolvían la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, y abrevaban las ovejas; y volvían la piedra sobre la boca del pozo á su lugar.

Y dijo a los pastores: Hermanos, ¿de dónde sois? Los cuales respondieron: De Harán.
Y díjoles Jacob: Hermanos míos, ¿de dónde sois? Y ellos respondieron: De Harán somos.
And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran are we.
Jacob said to them, “My relatives, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”
Les pregunto: ¿Conocéis acaso a Labán, hijo de Nacor? Dijeron: Sí que le conocemos.
Y él les dijo: ¿Conocéis á Labán, hijo de Nachôr? Y ellos dijeron: Sí, le conocemos.
And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.
He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.”
¿Lo pasa bien?, dijo él. Bueno está, respondieron, y he allí a Raquel, hija suya, que viene con su rebaño.
Y él les dijo: ¿Tiene paz? Y ellos dijeron: Paz; y he aquí Rachêl su hija viene con el ganado.
And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.
He said to them, “Is it well with him?” They said, “It is well. See, Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the sheep.”
Les dijo Jacob : Aún falta mucho del día, ni es tiempo de recoger todavía el ganado en los apriscos; dad ahora de beber a las ovejas, y después volvedlas a pacer.
Y él dijo: He aquí el día es aún grande; no es tiempo todavía de recoger el ganado; abrevad las ovejas, é id á apacentarlas.
And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.
He said, “Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”
Respondieron ellos: No podemos hacerlo, hasta que se junten todos los ganados, y quitemos la piedra del brocal del pozo para abrevar los rebaños.

Aún estaban hablando, cuando he aquí que llega Raquel con las ovejas de su padre; pues ella misma pastoreaba el rebaño.

Jacob luego que la vio, sabiendo ser su prima hermana, y las ovejas de Labán su tío materno, removió la piedra con que se cerraba el pozo.

And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.

respondió: Hueso mío eres, y carne mía, yo cuidaré de ti. Y pasado que fue un mes,
Y Labán le dijo: Ciertamente hueso mío y carne mía eres. Y estuvo con él el tiempo de un mes.
And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

le dijo: ¿Acaso porque eres hermano mío, me has de servir de balde? Dime qué recompensa quieres.
Entonces dijo Labán á Jacob: ¿Por ser tú mi hermano, me has de servir de balde? declárame qué será tu salario.
And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?
Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?”
Tenía Labán dos hijas, de las cuales la mayor se llamaba Lía: y la menor Raquel.
Y Labán tenía dos hijas: el nombre de la mayor era Lea, y el nombre de la menor, Rachêl.
And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

Respondió Labán: Mejor es que yo te la dé a ti que a un extraño, quédate conmigo.
Y Labán respondió: Mejor es que te la dé á ti, que no que la dé á otro hombre: estáte conmigo.
And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.
Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.”
Sirvió, pues, Jacob por Raquel siete años; y aún le parecían pocos días, atendido su grande amor por ella.

Entonces Labán, convidados un sinfín de amigos a un banquete, celebró las bodas.

dando a su hija una esclava, llamada Zelfa para que le sirviese. Y habiendo ido Jacob a recogerse con ella según costumbre, venida la mañana, se halló con que era Lía.

And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid.

Por lo que dijo a su suegro: ¿Qué es lo que has hecho conmigo?; ¿no te he servido yo por Raquel?; ¿por qué me has engañado?
Y venida la mañana, he aquí que era Lea: y él dijo á Labán: ¿Qué es esto que me has hecho? ¿no te he servido por Rachêl? ¿por qué, pues, me has engañado?
And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?
In the morning, behold, it was Leah! He said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?”
Respondió Labán: No se usa en nuestro país el casar primero las menores.
Y Labán respondió: No se hace así en nuestro lugar, que se dé la menor antes de la mayor.
And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.
Laban said, “It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn.
Cumple la semana de los días de la boda, que yo te daré también la otra por siete años más de servirme.
Cumple la semana de ésta, y se te dará también la otra, por el servicio que hicieres conmigo otros siete años.
Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

Condescendió con la propuesta; y pasada la semana, tomó por mujer a Raquel.
E hizo Jacob así, y cumplió la semana de aquélla: y él le dió á Rachêl su hija por mujer.
And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

Gozando en fin Jacob del matrimonio tan deseado, amó más a la segunda que a la primera, y sirvió en casa de Labán otros siete años.

Concibió, pues, y parió un hijo, y le puso por nombre Rubén, diciendo: El Señor miró mi humillación, ahora me amará mi marido.
Y concibió Lea, y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Rubén, porque dijo: Ya que ha mirado Jehová mi aflicción; ahora por tanto me amará mi marido.
And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.

Segunda vez concibió y parió un hijo, y dijo: Por cuanto el Señor entendió que yo era tenida en menos, me ha dado también este hijo; por eso le llamó Simeón.

Cuarta vez concibió, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Ahora sí que alabaré al Señor; y aludiendo a esto, le llamó Judá, y cesó de parir por algún tiempo.
Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Esta vez alabaré á Jehová: por esto llamó su nombre Judá: y dejó de parir.
And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
