Hierauf setzte Jakob seine Wanderung fort und gelangte in das Land, das gegen Osten lag.

Als er sich dort umsah, gewahrte er auf dem Felde einen Brunnen, an dem gerade drei Herden Kleinvieh lagerten; denn aus diesem Brunnen pflegte man die Herden zu tränken; über der Öffnung des Brunnens aber lag ein großer Stein.

Y miró, y vió un pozo en el campo: y he aquí tres rebaños de ovejas que yacían cerca de él; porque de aquel pozo abrevaban los ganados: y había una gran piedra sobre la boca del pozo.

And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well’s mouth.

Diesen wälzte man erst dann, wenn alle Herden dort zusammengetrieben waren, von der Brunnenöffnung ab und tränkte das Kleinvieh; darauf legte man den Stein wieder zurück an seinen Platz über der Öffnung des Brunnens.

Da sagte Jakob zu den Leuten: »Meine Brüder, woher seid ihr?« Sie antworteten: »Wir sind aus Haran.«

Y díjoles Jacob: Hermanos míos, ¿de dónde sois? Y ellos respondieron: De Harán somos.

And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran are we.

Jacob said to them, “My relatives, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”

Hierauf fragte er sie: »Kennt ihr Laban, den Sohn Nahors?« Sie antworteten: »Ja, den kennen wir.«

Y él les dijo: ¿Conocéis á Labán, hijo de Nachôr? Y ellos dijeron: Sí, le conocemos.

And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.

He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.”

Da fragte er sie: »Geht es ihm gut?« Sie erwiderten: »Ja; und da kommt gerade seine Tochter Rahel mit dem Kleinvieh!«

Y él les dijo: ¿Tiene paz? Y ellos dijeron: Paz; y he aquí Rachêl su hija viene con el ganado.

And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.

He said to them, “Is it well with him?” They said, “It is well. See, Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the sheep.”

Da sagte er: »Es ist ja noch hoch am Tage, und noch ist’s nicht die Zeit, das Vieh zusammenzutreiben; tränkt doch das Kleinvieh und laßt es dann wieder weiden!«

Y él dijo: He aquí el día es aún grande; no es tiempo todavía de recoger el ganado; abrevad las ovejas, é id á apacentarlas.

And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.

He said, “Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”

Sie antworteten: »Das können wir nicht, bis alle Herden beisammen sind; dann erst wälzt man den Stein von der Öffnung des Brunnens ab, und wir tränken das Kleinvieh.«

Y ellos respondieron: No podemos, hasta que se junten todos los ganados, y remuevan la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, para que abrevemos las ovejas.

And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.

Während er noch mit ihnen redete, war Rahel mit dem Kleinvieh ihres Vaters herangekommen; denn sie war eine Hirtin.

Estando aún él hablando con ellos, Rachêl vino con el ganado de su padre, porque ella era la pastora.

And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep: for she kept them.

Sobald nun Jakob Rahel, die Tochter seines Oheims Laban, und das Kleinvieh seines Oheims Laban erblickt hatte, trat er hinzu, wälzte den Stein von der Brunnenöffnung ab und tränkte das Kleinvieh seines Oheims Laban.

Y sucedió que, como Jacob vió á Rachêl, hija de Labán hermano de su madre, y á las ovejas de Labán el hermano de su madre, llegóse Jacob, y removió la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, y abrevó el ganado de Labán hermano de su madre.

And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.

Als nun Laban die Nachricht über Jakob, den Sohn seiner Schwester, vernahm, lief er ihm entgegen, umarmte und küßte ihn und führte ihn in sein Haus; da erzählte er dem Laban seine ganze Lebensgeschichte.

Y así que oyó Labán las nuevas de Jacob, hijo de su hermana, corrió á recibirlo, y abrazólo, y besólo, y trájole á su casa: y él contó á Labán todas estas cosas.

And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

Laban aber sagte zu ihm: »Fürwahr, du bist von meinem Fleisch und Bein.« Als Jakob nun einen Monat lang bei Laban geblieben war,

Y Labán le dijo: Ciertamente hueso mío y carne mía eres. Y estuvo con él el tiempo de un mes.

And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” Jacob stayed with him for a month.

sagte dieser zu ihm: »Du bist doch mein Verwandter: solltest du da umsonst für mich arbeiten? Laß mich wissen, was dein Lohn sein soll!«

Entonces dijo Labán á Jacob: ¿Por ser tú mi hermano, me has de servir de balde? declárame qué será tu salario.

And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?

Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?”

Nun hatte Laban zwei Töchter: die ältere hieß Lea, die jüngere Rahel;

Lea hatte matte Augen, während Rahel schön von Gestalt und schön von Angesicht war.

Y los ojos de Lea eran tiernos, pero Rachêl era de lindo semblante y de hermoso parecer.

Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.

Daher hatte Jakob die Rahel liebgewonnen und sagte: »Ich will dir sieben Jahre lang um deine jüngere Tochter Rahel dienen.«

Y Jacob amó á Rachêl, y dijo: Yo te serviré siete años por Rachêl tu hija menor.

And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

Laban antwortete: »Es ist besser, ich gebe sie dir als einem fremden Manne: bleibe also bei mir!«

Y Labán respondió: Mejor es que te la dé á ti, que no que la dé á otro hombre: estáte conmigo.

And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.

Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.”

So diente denn Jakob um Rahel sieben Jahre, und diese kamen ihm wie wenige Tage vor: so lieb hatte er Rahel.

Así sirvió Jacob por Rachêl siete años: y pareciéronle como pocos días, porque la amaba.

And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

Hierauf sagte Jakob zu Laban: »Meine Zeit ist abgelaufen: gib mir nun meine Frau, damit ich mich mit ihr verheirate.«

And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

Da lud Laban alle Einwohner des Ortes ein und veranstaltete ein Festmahl;

und Laban gab seiner Tochter Lea seine Magd Silpa zur Leibmagd. Am andern Morgen aber stellte es sich heraus, daß es Lea war.

Y dió Labán su sierva Zilpa á su hija Lea por criada.

And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid.

Als er nun zu Laban sagte: »Was hast du mir da angetan! Habe ich nicht um Rahel bei dir gedient? Warum hast du mich betrogen?«,

Y venida la mañana, he aquí que era Lea: y él dijo á Labán: ¿Qué es esto que me has hecho? ¿no te he servido por Rachêl? ¿por qué, pues, me has engañado?

And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?

In the morning, behold, it was Leah! He said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?”

antwortete Laban: »Hierzulande ist es nicht Sitte, die jüngere Tochter vor der älteren wegzugeben.

Y Labán respondió: No se hace así en nuestro lugar, que se dé la menor antes de la mayor.

And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.

Bringe die Brautwoche mit dieser zu Ende, dann soll dir auch die andere gegeben werden für den Dienst, den du mir noch weitere sieben Jahre leisten mußt.«

Cumple la semana de ésta, y se te dará también la otra, por el servicio que hicieres conmigo otros siete años.

Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

Fulfill the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you will serve with me for seven more years.”

Jakob willigte ein und hielt die Brautwoche mit Lea aus; dann gab Laban ihm auch seine Tochter Rahel zur Frau;

E hizo Jacob así, y cumplió la semana de aquélla: y él le dió á Rachêl su hija por mujer.

And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

Jakob ging nun auch zu Rahel ein, hatte aber Rahel lieber als Lea; er blieb dann noch weitere sieben Jahre bei Laban im Dienst.

Y entró también á Rachêl: y amóla también más que á Lea: y sirvió con él aún otros siete años.

And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.

Als nun der HERR sah, daß Lea ungeliebt war, machte er sie fruchtbar, während Rahel kinderlos blieb.

Lea wurde also guter Hoffnung und gebar einen Sohn, den sie Ruben nannte; »denn«, sagte sie, »der HERR hat mein Elend angesehen; ja, nun wird mein Mann mich liebgewinnen«.

And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.

Hierauf wurde sie wieder guter Hoffnung, und als sie einen Sohn geboren hatte, sagte sie: »Weil der HERR gehört hat, daß ich ungeliebt bin, hat er mir auch diesen Sohn gegeben«; darum nannte sie ihn Simeon.

Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Por cuanto oyó Jehová que yo era aborrecida, me ha dado también éste. Y llamó su nombre Simeón.

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.

Als sie dann wieder guter Hoffnung geworden war und einen Sohn gebar, sagte sie: »Nun endlich wird mein Mann mir anhangen, denn ich habe ihm drei Söhne geboren«; darum nannte sie ihn Levi.

Hierauf wurde sie nochmals guter Hoffnung und gebar einen Sohn; da sagte sie: »Diesmal will ich den HERRN preisen!« Darum nannte sie ihn Juda. Danach bekam sie kein Kind mehr.

Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Esta vez alabaré á Jehová: por esto llamó su nombre Judá: y dejó de parir.

And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
