Puis, s'étant remis en marche, Jacob s'en alla en la terre d'Orient chez Laban, fils de Bathuel le Syrien, frère de Rébécca, mère de Jacob et d'Esaü.

Y SIGUIÓ Jacob su camino, y fué á la tierra de los orientales.

Il aperçut un puits, dans la plaine et trois troupeaux de brebis, arrêtés près du puits, car c'était là que l'on abreuvait les troupeaux, et il y avait une grande pierre sur l'ouverture du puits.

Y miró, y vió un pozo en el campo: y he aquí tres rebaños de ovejas que yacían cerca de él; porque de aquel pozo abrevaban los ganados: y había una gran piedra sobre la boca del pozo.

And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well’s mouth.

Lorsque tous les troupeaux étaient rassemblés, les pâtres faisaient rouler la pierre de l'ouverture du puits, et ils donnaient à boire au bétail, puis, ils remettaient la pierre à sa place, au-dessus du puits.

Y juntábanse allí todos los rebaños; y revolvían la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, y abrevaban las ovejas; y volvían la piedra sobre la boca del pozo á su lugar.

And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well’s mouth in his place.

Et Jacob dit : Frères, d'où êtes-vous ? Nous sommes, répondirent-ils, d'Haran.

Y díjoles Jacob: Hermanos míos, ¿de dónde sois? Y ellos respondieron: De Harán somos.

And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran are we.

Jacob said to them, “My relatives, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”

Il ajouta : Connaissez-vous Laban, petit-fils de Nachor ? et ils dirent : Nous le connaissons.

Y él les dijo: ¿Conocéis á Labán, hijo de Nachôr? Y ellos dijeron: Sí, le conocemos.

And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.

He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.”

Et il leur dit : Se porte-t-il bien ? et ils répondirent il se porte bien ; voilà Rachel sa fille, qui vient avec ses brebis.

Y él les dijo: ¿Tiene paz? Y ellos dijeron: Paz; y he aquí Rachêl su hija viene con el ganado.

And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.

He said to them, “Is it well with him?” They said, “It is well. See, Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the sheep.”

Le jour est encore grand, dit Jacob, et ce n'est point l'heure où l'on rassemble les troupeaux ; faites donc boire vos brebis et ramenez-les au pâturage.

Y él dijo: He aquí el día es aún grande; no es tiempo todavía de recoger el ganado; abrevad las ovejas, é id á apacentarlas.

And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.

He said, “Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”

Ils repartirent : Nous ne le pourrons avant la réunion de tous les pâtres ; à eux tous, ils détourneront la pierre de l'ouverture du puits, et nous ferons boire notre bétail.

Y ellos respondieron: No podemos, hasta que se junten todos los ganados, y remuevan la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, para que abrevemos las ovejas.

And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.

Comme il leur parlait encore, Rachel, fille de Laban, les rejoignit avec les brebis de son père, car elle menait paître les brebis de son père.

Estando aún él hablando con ellos, Rachêl vino con el ganado de su padre, porque ella era la pastora.

And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep: for she kept them.

Y sucedió que, como Jacob vió á Rachêl, hija de Labán hermano de su madre, y á las ovejas de Labán el hermano de su madre, llegóse Jacob, y removió la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, y abrevó el ganado de Labán hermano de su madre.

And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.

And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s brother, and that he was Rebekah’s son: and she ran and told her father.

À peine Laban eut-il entendu le nom de Jacob, fils de sa sœur, qu'il courut à sa rencontre, et l'ayant serré dans ses bras, il le baisa ; puis il le conduisit en sa demeure, et Jacob raconta à Laban toutes choses.

Y así que oyó Labán las nuevas de Jacob, hijo de su hermana, corrió á recibirlo, y abrazólo, y besólo, y trájole á su casa: y él contó á Labán todas estas cosas.

And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

Laban lui dit : Tu es de mes os et de ma chair. Et Jacob resta avec lui tous les jours d'une lune.

Y Labán le dijo: Ciertamente hueso mío y carne mía eres. Y estuvo con él el tiempo de un mes.

And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” Jacob stayed with him for a month.

Laban dit ensuite à Jacob : Parce que tu es mon frère, tu ne dois pas me servir gratuitement ; dis-moi donc quelle récompense tu veux.

Entonces dijo Labán á Jacob: ¿Por ser tú mi hermano, me has de servir de balde? declárame qué será tu salario.

And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?

Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?”

Or, Laban avait deux filles : I'aînée se nommait Lia, et la plus jeune Rachel.

Y Labán tenía dos hijas: el nombre de la mayor era Lea, y el nombre de la menor, Rachêl.

And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

Lia avait les yeux faibles, Rachel était belle de visage et pleine de grâces.

Y los ojos de Lea eran tiernos, pero Rachêl era de lindo semblante y de hermoso parecer.

Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.

Jacob aimait Rachel, et il dit : Je te servirai sept ans pour Rachel, ta plus jeune fille.

And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.

Jacob loved Rachel. He said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your younger daughter.”

Mieux vaut, lui dit Laban, la donner à toi qu'à un autre homme ; demeure donc avec nous.

Y Labán respondió: Mejor es que te la dé á ti, que no que la dé á otro hombre: estáte conmigo.

And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.

Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.”

Jacob servit donc sept années pour Rachel, et les ans furent devant lui comme de courtes journées, à cause de la tendresse qu'il avait pour elle.

Así sirvió Jacob por Rachêl siete años: y pareciéronle como pocos días, porque la amaba.

And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

Et Jacob dit à Laban : Donne-moi ma femme afin que j'habite avec elle, car les jours sont accomplis.

And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.

Y dió Labán su sierva Zilpa á su hija Lea por criada.

And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid.

Lorsque le matin parut, Jacob reconnut Lia, et il dit à Laban : Pourquoi m'as-tu fait cela ; n'est-ce pas pour Rachel que je t'ai servi ? Pourquoi m'as- tu trompé ?

Y venida la mañana, he aquí que era Lea: y él dijo á Labán: ¿Qué es esto que me has hecho? ¿no te he servido por Rachêl? ¿por qué, pues, me has engañado?

And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?

In the morning, behold, it was Leah! He said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?”

Laban répondit : Il n'est point d'usage en notre pays de donner la plus jeune avant l'aînée.

Y Labán respondió: No se hace así en nuestro lugar, que se dé la menor antes de la mayor.

And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.

Achève la semaine de celle-ci, et je le donnerai encore l'autre pour prix des travaux que tu feras ensuite pour moi pendant sept autres années.

Cumple la semana de ésta, y se te dará también la otra, por el servicio que hicieres conmigo otros siete años.

Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

Fulfill the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you will serve with me for seven more years.”

Jacob fit ainsi : il acheva la semaine de Lia, et Laban lui donna pour femme sa fille Rachel.

E hizo Jacob así, y cumplió la semana de aquélla: y él le dió á Rachêl su hija por mujer.

And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

Laban donna à sa fille, pour servante, Balla qui lui appartenait.

Y dió Labán á Rachêl su hija por criada á su sierva Bilha.

And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.

Et Jacob s'approcha de Rachel ; il la chérit plus que Lia, et il servit pour elle sept autres années.

Y entró también á Rachêl: y amóla también más que á Lea: y sirvió con él aún otros siete años.

And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.

Mais le Seigneur ayant vu que Lia était haïe, lui ouvrit les entrailles, tandis que Rachel resta stérile.

And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

Et Lia ayant conçu, enfanta à Jacob un fils qu'elle appela Ruben, disant : Le Seigneur a vu mon humiliation, et il m'a donné un fils ; maintenant donc mon époux m'aimera,

Y concibió Lea, y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Rubén, porque dijo: Ya que ha mirado Jehová mi aflicción; ahora por tanto me amará mi marido.

And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.

Elle conçut derechef, et elle enfanta un second fils, et elle dit : Le Seigneur a entendu que je suis haïe, et il m'a donné encore celui-ci ; elle l'appela Siméon.

Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Por cuanto oyó Jehová que yo era aborrecida, me ha dado también éste. Y llamó su nombre Simeón.

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD hath heard that I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.

She conceived again, and bore a son, and said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this son also.” She named him Simeon.

Elle conçut une troisième fois, et elle enfanta un fils, et elle dit : Désormais mon époux sera avec moi, car je lui ai donné trois fils ; à cause de cela elle l'appela Lévi.

Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Ahora esta vez se unirá mi marido conmigo, porque le he parido tres hijos: por tanto, llamó su nombre Leví.

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.

Et ayant encore conçu, elle enfanta un fils, et elle dit : Maintenant encore en ceci je louerai le Seigneur ; c'est pourquoi elle donna à l'enfant le nom de Juda ; puis elle cessa d'enfanter.

And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
