1Isaac appela Jacob et le bénit, puis lui fit cette recommandation: "Ne prends pas femme parmi les filles de Canaan.
2Lève toi, va dans le territoire d'Aram, dans la demeure de Bathuel, père de ta mère; et choisis toi là une femme parmi les filles de Laban, le frère de ta mère.
3Le Dieu tout puissant te bénira, te fera croître et multiplier et tu deviendras une congrégation de peuples.
4Et il t'attribuera la bénédiction d'Abraham, à toi et à ta postérité avec toi, en te faisant possesseur de la terre de tes pérégrinations, que Dieu a donnée à Abraham."
5Isaac envoya ainsi Jacob au territoire d'Aram, chez Laban, fils de Bathuel, l'Araméen, frère de Rébecca, mère de Jacob et d'Ésaü.
6Ésaü vit qu’Isaac avait béni Jacob, qu'il l'avait envoyé au territoire d'Aram pour s'y choisir une épouse; qu'en le bénissant il lui avait donné cet ordre: "Ne prends point femme parmi les filles de Canaan";
7que Jacob, obéissant à son père et à sa mère, était allé au territoire d'Aram:
8et Ésaü comprit que les filles de Canaan déplaisaient à Isaac son père.
9Alors Ésaü alla vers Ismaël et prit pour femme Mahalath, fille d'Ismaël, fils d'Abraham, sœur de Nebaïoth, en outre de ses premières femmes.
10Jacob sortit de Beer Shava et se dirigea vers Haran.
11Il arriva dans un endroit où il établit son gîte, parce que le soleil était couché. II prit une des pierres de l'endroit, en fit son chevet et passa la nuit dans ce lieu.
12Il eut un songe que voici: Une échelle était dressée sur la terre, son sommet atteignait le ciel et des messagers divins montaient et descendaient le long de cette échelle.
13Puis, l'Éternel apparaissait au sommet et disait: "Je suis l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Abraham ton père et d'Isaac; cette terre sur laquelle tu reposes, je te la donne à toi et à ta postérité.
14Elle sera, ta postérité, comme la poussière de la terre; et tu déborderas au couchant et au levant, au nord et au midi; et toutes les familles de la terre seront heureuses par toi et par ta postérité.
15Oui, je suis avec toi; je veillerai sur chacun de tes pas et je te ramènerai dans cette contrée, car je ne veux point t'abandonner avant d'avoir accompli ce que je t'ai promis."
16Jacob, s'étant réveillé, s'écria: "Assurément, l'Éternel est présent en ce lieu et moi je l'ignorais."
17Et, saisi de crainte, il ajouta: "Que ce lieu est redoutable! ceci n'est autre que la maison du Seigneur et c'est ici la porte du ciel."
18Jacob se leva de grand matin; il prit la pierre qu'il avait mise sous sa tête, l'érigea en monument et répandit de l'huile à son faite.
19Il appela cet endroit Béthel; mais Louz était d'abord le nom de la ville.
20Jacob prononça un vœu en ces termes: "Si le Seigneur est avec moi, s'il me protège dans la voie où je marche, s'il me donne du pain à manger et des vêtements pour me couvrir;
21si je retourne en paix à la maison paternelle, alors le Seigneur aura été un Dieu pour moi
22et cette pierre que je viens d'ériger en monument deviendra la maison du Seigneur et tous les biens que tu m'accorderas, je veux t'en offrir la dîme."

1ENTONCES Isaac llamó á Jacob, y bendíjolo, y mandóle diciendo: No tomes mujer de las hijas de Canaán.
2Levántate, ve á Padan-aram, á casa de Bethuel, padre de tu madre, y toma allí mujer de las hijas de Labán, hermano de tu madre.
3Y el Dios omnipotente te bendiga, y te haga fructificar, y te multiplique, hasta venir á ser congregación de pueblos;
4Y te dé la bendición de Abraham, y á tu simiente contigo, para que heredes la tierra de tus peregrinaciones, que Dios dió á Abraham.
5Así envió Isaac á Jacob, el cual fué á Padan-aram, á Labán, hijo de Bethuel Arameo, hermano de Rebeca, madre de Jacob y de Esaú.
6Y vió Esaú cómo Isaac había bendecido á Jacob, y le había enviado á Padan-aram, para tomar para sí mujer de allí; y que cuando le bendijo, le había mandado, diciendo: No tomarás mujer de las hijas de Canaán;
7Y que Jacob había obedecido á su padre y á su madre, y se había ido á Padan-aram.
8Vió asimismo Esaú que las hijas de Canaán parecían mal á Isaac su padre;
9Y fuése Esaú á Ismael, y tomó para sí por mujer á Mahaleth, hija de Ismael, hijo de Abraham, hermana de Nabaioth, además de sus otras mujeres.
10Y salió Jacob de Beer-seba, y fué á Harán;
11Y encontró con un lugar, y durmió allí, porque ya el sol se había puesto: y tomó de las piedras de aquel paraje y puso á su cabecera, y acostóse en aquel lugar.
12Y soñó, y he aquí una escala que estaba apoyada en tierra, y su cabeza tocaba en el cielo: y he aquí ángeles de Dios que subían y descendían por ella.
13Y he aquí, Jehová estaba en lo alto de ella, el cual dijo: Yo soy Jehová, el Dios de Abraham tu padre, y el Dios de Isaac: la tierra en que estás acostado te la daré á ti y á tu simiente.
14Y será tu simiente como el polvo de la tierra, y te extenderás al occidente, y al oriente, y al aquilón, y al mediodía; y todas las familias de la tierra serán benditas en ti y en tu simiente.
15Y he aquí, yo soy contigo, y te guardaré por donde quiera que fueres, y te volveré á esta tierra; porque no te dejaré hasta tanto que haya hecho lo que te he dicho.
16Y despertó Jacob de su sueño, y dijo: Ciertamente Jehová está en este lugar, y yo no lo sabía.
17Y tuvo miedo, y dijo: ¡Cuán terrible es este lugar! No es otra cosa que casa de Dios, y puerta del cielo.
18Y levantóse Jacob de mañana, y tomó la piedra que había puesto de cabecera, y alzóla por título, y derramó aceite encima de ella.
19Y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Beth-el, bien que Luz era el nombre de la ciudad primero.
20E hizo Jacob voto, diciendo: Si fuere Dios conmigo, y me guardare en este viaje que voy, y me diere pan para comer y vestido para vestir,
21Y si tornare en paz á casa de mi padre, Jehová será mi Dios,
22Y esta piedra que he puesto por título, será casa de Dios: y de todo lo que me dieres, el diezmo lo he de apartar para ti.

1And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.
3And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;
4And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.
5And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padan-aram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.
6When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan-aram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
7And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padan-aram;
8And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;
9Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.
10And Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.
11And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
13And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
14And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
16And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
17And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
18And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
19And he called the name of that place Beth-el: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
20And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
22And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
World English Bible
1Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.
2Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.
3May God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a company of peoples,
4and give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your offspring with you, that you may inherit the land where you travel, which God gave to Abraham.”
5Isaac sent Jacob away. He went to Paddan Aram to Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.
6Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;”
7and that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan Aram.
8Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan didn’t please Isaac, his father.
9So Esau went to Ishmael, and took, in addition to the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.
10Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
11He came to a certain place, and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. He took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
13Behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, “I am the LORD, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. I will give the land you lie on to you and to your offspring.
14Your offspring will be as the dust of the earth, and you will spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. In you and in your offspring, all the families of the earth will be blessed.
15Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”
16Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”
17He was afraid, and said, “How awesome this place is! This is none other than God’s house, and this is the gate of heaven.”
18Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil on its top.
19He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.
20Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and clothing to put on,
21so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, and the LORD will be my God,
22then this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, will be God’s house. Of all that you will give me I will surely give a tenth to you.”
