1Und Jehovah erschien ihm in den Eichenhainen Mamres, und er saß am Eingang des Zeltes als der Tag heiß ward.
2Und er hob seine Augen auf und sah, und siehe, drei Männer standen bei ihm; und er sah, und lief ihnen entgegen vom Eingang des Zeltes und verbeugte sich zur Erde.
3Und sprach: Mein Herr, wenn ich doch Gnade fände in deinen Augen! Zieh doch nicht vorüber an deinem Knechte.
4Nehmet doch ein wenig Wasser, und waschet eure Füße und lehnet euch unter den Baum.
5Und ich will einen Bissen Brot holen, daß ihr euer Herz stützet, hernach möget ihr vorüberziehen. Denn darum seid ihr bei eurem Knechte vorübergezogen. Und sie sprachen: Tue, wie du geredet hast.
6Und Abraham eilte nach dem Zelt zu Sarah, und sprach: Nimm eilends drei Seah Mehl, Semmelmehl, knete und mache Kuchen.
7Und Abraham lief zu den Rindern, und nahm ein Kalb, zart und gut, und gab es dem Jungen; und er eilte, es zu bereiten.
8Und er nahm Butter und Milch und das Kalb, das er bereiten ließ, und setzte ihnen vor, und er stand bei ihnen unter dem Baum und sie aßen.
9Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Wo ist dein Weib Sarah? Und er sagte: sehet, in dem Zelte.
10Und Er sprach: Zu dieser Zeit des Lebens kehre Ich zu dir zurück, und siehe, dein Weib Sarah hat einen Sohn; und Sarah hörte es am Eingang des Zeltes, und dieser war hinter ihm.
11Und Abraham und Sarah waren alt, gekommen in die Tage und es hatte aufgehört mit Sarah zu sein nach der Weiber Weise.
12Und Sarah lachte bei sich und sprach: Nachdem ich alt geworden bin, sollt ich noch Wollust haben? Und mein Herr ist alt.
13Und Jehovah sprach zu Abraham: Warum lacht Sarah und spricht: Sollte ich fürwahr gebären, so ich doch alt bin?
14Sollte für Jehovah ein Ding zu wunderbar sein? Zur bestimmten Zeit kehre Ich zu dir zurück, um diese Zeit des Lebens und Sarah hat einen Sohn.
15Und Sarah leugnete und sagte: Ich habe nicht gelacht; denn sie fürchtete sich. Er aber sprach: Nein, du hast gelacht.
16Und die Männer standen auf von da und schauten aus gegen Sodom, und Abraham ging mit ihnen, sie zu entsenden.
17Und Jehovah sprach: Soll Ich vor Abraham verdecken, was Ich tun will?
18Und Abraham wird doch zur großen und zahlreichen Völkerschaft, und alle Völkerschaften der Erde sollen in ihm gesegnet werden.
19Denn Ich habe ihn dahin erkannt, daß er seinen Söhnen und seinem Hause nach ihm wird gebieten, daß sie den Weg Jehovahs halten, zu tun Gerechtigkeit und Recht, auf daß Jehovah auf Abraham kommen lasse, was Er über ihn geredet hat.
20Und Jehovah sprach: Weil des Geschreis über Sodom und Gomorrah viel geworden, und ihre Sünde sehr schwer ist.
21Will Ich nun doch hinabsteigen und sehen, ob sie nach dem Geschrei, das zu Mir gekommen, eine Vollendung gemacht, und ob nicht, will Ich wissen.
22Die Männer aber wandten sich von da und gingen gen Sodom; und Abraham stand noch vor Jehovah.
23Und Abraham trat herzu und sprach: Willst Du auch wegraffen den Gerechten mit dem Ungerechten?
24Vielleicht sind fünfzig Gerechte in der Mitte der Stadt. Willst Du den Ort auch dann wegraffen, und nicht ihm verzeihen um der fünfzig Gerechten willen, die in seiner Mitte sind?
25Das sei ferne von Dir, nach solchem Worte zu tun, daß Du tötest den Gerechten mit dem Ungerechten, und daß der Gerechte sei, wie der Ungerechte; das sei ferne von Dir. Sollte der Rier der ganzen Erde nicht Gericht üben?
26Und Jehovah sprach: Wenn Ich in Sodom fünfzig Gerechte in der Mitte der Stadt finde, so verzeihe Ich dem ganzen Orte um ihretwillen.
27Und Abraham antwortete und sprach: Siehe doch, ich habe mich unterstanden, mit meinem Herrn zu reden, und ich bin Staub und Asche.
28Vielleicht mangeln zu den fünfzig Gerechten fünf, wirst du die ganze Stadt um der fünfe willen verderben? Und Er sprach: Ich will sie nicht verderben, wenn Ich dort fünfundvierzig finde.
29Und er fuhr fort, mit Ihm zu reden, und sprach: Vielleicht finden sich dort vierzig; und Er sprach: Ich will es nicht tun um der vierzig willen.
30Und er sprach: Entbrenne doch nicht, mein Herr, und ich will reden; vielleicht würden dreißig dort gefunden. Und Er sprach: Ich will es nicht tun, wenn Ich dort dreißig finde.
31Und er sprach: Siehe doch, ich habe mich unterstanden, mit meinem Herrn zu reden. Vielleicht wird man dort zwanzig finden. Und Er sprach: Ich verderbe sie nicht um der zwanzig willen.
32Und er sprach: Es entbrenne nicht mein Herr, daß ich nur noch diesmal rede. Vielleicht werden dort zehn gefunden. Und Er sprach: Um der zehn willen verderbe Ich sie nicht.
33Und Jehovah ging hin, als Er mit Abraham vollendet zu reden; und Abraham kehrte zurück an seinen Ort.

1Y APARECIÓLE Jehová en el valle de Mamre, estando él sentado á la puerta de su tienda en el calor del día.
2Y alzó sus ojos y miró, y he aquí tres varones que estaban junto á él: y cuando los vió, salió corriendo de la puerta de su tienda á recibirlos, é inclinóse hacia la tierra,
3Y dijo: Señor, si ahora he hallado gracia en tus ojos, ruégote que no pases de tu siervo.
4Que se traiga ahora un poco de agua, y lavad vuestros pies; y recostaos debajo de un árbol,
5Y traeré un bocado de pan, y sustentad vuestro corazón; después pasaréis: porque por eso habéis pasado cerca de vuestro siervo. Y ellos dijeron: Haz así como has dicho.
6Entonces Abraham fué de priesa á la tienda á Sara, y le dijo: Toma presto tres medidas de flor de harina, amasa y haz panes cocidos debajo del rescoldo.
7Y corrió Abraham á las vacas, y tomó un becerro tierno y bueno, y diólo al mozo, y dióse éste priesa á aderezarlo.
8Tomó también manteca y leche, y el becerro que había aderezado, y púsolo delante de ellos; y él estaba junto á ellos debajo del árbol; y comieron.
9Y le dijeron: ¿Dónde está Sara tu mujer? Y él respondió: Aquí en la tienda.
10Entonces dijo: De cierto volveré á ti según el tiempo de la vida, y he aquí, tendrá un hijo Sara tu mujer. Y Sara escuchaba á la puerta de la tienda, que estaba detrás de él.
11Y Abraham y Sara eran viejos, entrados en días: á Sara había cesado ya la costumbre de las mujeres.
12Rióse, pues, Sara entre sí, diciendo: ¿Después que he envejecido tendré deleite, siendo también mi señor ya viejo?
13Entonces Jehová dijo á Abraham: ¿Por qué se ha reído Sara diciendo: Será cierto que he de parir siendo ya vieja?
14¿Hay para Dios alguna cosa difícil? Al tiempo señalado volveré á ti, según el tiempo de la vida, y Sara tendrá un hijo.
15Entonces Sara negó diciendo: No me reí; porque tuvo miedo. Y él dijo: No es así, sino que te has reído.
16Y los varones se levantaron de allí, y miraron hacia Sodoma: y Abraham iba con ellos acompañándolos.
17Y Jehová dijo: ¿Encubriré yo á Abraham lo que voy á hacer,
18Habiendo de ser Abraham en una nación grande y fuerte, y habiendo de ser benditas en él todas las gentes de la tierra?
19Porque yo lo he conocido, sé que mandará á sus hijos y á su casa después de sí, que guarden el camino de Jehová, haciendo justicia y juicio, para que haga venir Jehová sobre Abraham lo que ha hablado acerca de él.
20Entonces Jehová le dijo: Por cuanto el clamor de Sodoma y Gomorra se aumenta más y más, y el pecado de ellos se ha agravado en extremo,
21Descenderé ahora, y veré si han consumado su obra según el clamor que ha venido hasta mí; y si no, saberlo he.
22Y apartáronse de allí los varones, y fueron hacia Sodoma: mas Abraham estaba aún delante de Jehová.
23Y acercóse Abraham y dijo: ¿Destruirás también al justo con el impío?
24Quizá hay cincuenta justos dentro de la ciudad: ¿destruirás también y no perdonarás al lugar por cincuenta justos que estén dentro de él?
25Lejos de ti el hacer tal, que hagas morir al justo con el impío, y que sea el justo tratado como el impío; nunca tal hagas. El juez de toda la tierra, ¿no ha de hacer lo que es justo?
26Entonces respondió Jehová: Si hallare en Sodoma cincuenta justos dentro de la ciudad, perdonaré á todo este lugar por amor de ellos.
27Y Abraham replicó y dijo: He aquí ahora que he comenzado á hablar á mi Señor, aunque soy polvo y ceniza:
28Quizá faltarán de cincuenta justos cinco: ¿destruirás por aquellos cinco toda la ciudad? Y dijo: No la destruiré, si hallare allí cuarenta y cinco.
29Y volvió á hablarle, y dijo: Quizá se hallarán allí cuarenta. Y respondió: No lo haré por amor de los cuarenta.
30Y dijo: No se enoje ahora mi Señor, si hablare: quizá se hallarán allí treinta. Y respondió: No lo haré si hallare allí treinta.
31Y dijo: He aquí ahora que he emprendido el hablar á mi Señor: quizá se hallarán allí veinte. No la destruiré, respondió, por amor de los veinte.
32Y volvió á decir: No se enoje ahora mi Señor, si hablare solamente una vez: quizá se hallarán allí diez. No la destruiré, respondió, por amor de los diez.
33Y fuése Jehová, luego que acabó de hablar á Abraham: y Abraham se volvió á su lugar.

1And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;
2And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,
3And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:
4Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:
5And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.
6And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.
7And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.
8And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.
9And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
10And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
11Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
13And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
14Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
15Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.
16And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.
17And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
18Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
19For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
20And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
21I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.
22And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.
23And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
24Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
25That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
26And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
27And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:
28Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.
29And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty’s sake.
30And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there.
31And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty’s sake.
32And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.
33And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.
World English Bible
1The LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.
2He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood near him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,
3and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant.
4Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
5I will get a piece of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant.” They said, “Very well, do as you have said.”
6Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Quickly prepare three seahs of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes.”
7Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.
8He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.
9They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?” He said, “There, in the tent.”
10He said, “I will certainly return to you at about this time next year; and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.
11Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.
12Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
13The LORD said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Will I really bear a child when I am old?’
14Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes around, and Sarah will have a son.”
15Then Sarah denied it, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” for she was afraid. He said, “No, but you did laugh.”
16The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.
17The LORD said, “Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
18since Abraham will surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?
19For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that the LORD may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”
20The LORD said, “Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,
21I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know.”
22The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.
23Abraham came near, and said, “Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?
24What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it?
25May it be far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”
26The LORD said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place for their sake.”
27Abraham answered, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, although I am dust and ashes.
28What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?” He said, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”
29He spoke to him yet again, and said, “What if there are forty found there?” He said, “I will not do it for the forty’s sake.”
30He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?” He said, “I will not do it if I find thirty there.”
31He said, “See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the twenty’s sake.”
32He said, “Oh don’t let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there?” He said, “I will not destroy it for the ten’s sake.”
33The LORD went his way as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
