1El Señor le dijo a Abram: «Deja tu tierra, tus familiares y la casa de tu padre, y vete a la región que te voy a mostrar.
2Te voy a convertir en una nación muy grande; te voy a bendecir, y te haré un hombre muy famoso. ¡Serás de bendición para muchas personas!
3A los que te bendigan, yo los bendeciré; pero a quienes te maldigan, yo los maldeciré. ¡Por medio de ti, yo bendeciré a todos los pueblos del mundo!».
4Tal como el Señor se lo había ordenado, Abram salió de Jarán, y con él también se fue Lot. En aquel tiempo Abram tenía setenta y cinco años.
5Cuando Abram salió hacia la región de Canaán se llevó a su esposa Saray, a su sobrino Lot y a toda la gente que había comprado en Jarán. También se llevó todas las cosas y animales que había conseguido.
6Abram atravesó toda la región de Canaán hasta que llegó a Siquén, donde está la encina sagrada de Moré. En ese tiempo, los cananeos eran los que vivían en aquella región.
7El Señor se le apareció allí a Abram y le dijo: «Esta tierra se la voy a dar a tus descendientes». Entonces Abram construyó un altar para adorar al Señor, porque se le había aparecido allí.
8Después, Abram salió de aquel lugar y viajó hacia el sur, a la región montañosa que queda entre Betel por el oeste y Hai por el este. Allí estableció su campamento e hizo un altar al Señor, e invocó su nombre.
9Luego, Abram continuó su viaje hacia el sur, deteniéndose en varios lugares, hasta que llegó a la región del Néguev.
10En ese tiempo hubo mucha hambre en aquella región; así que Abram se fue a vivir a Egipto.
11Cuando ya estaban cerca de Egipto, Abram le dijo a su esposa Saray: «¡Eres una mujer muy hermosa, y
12tan pronto te vean los egipcios y sepan que eres mi esposa, me matarán para quedarse contigo!
13Pero si dices que eres mi hermana, los egipcios me tratarán bien debido a su interés por ti, y me dejarán con vida».
14Y así fue. Cuando llegaron a Egipto, todos hablaban de la belleza de Saray.
15Los funcionarios del faraón también la vieron. Entonces fueron y le contaron al faraón que aquella mujer era muy hermosa. Luego, la llevaron a vivir al palacio.
16Para congraciarse con Saray, el faraón trató muy bien a Abram y le regaló ovejas, vacas, esclavos y esclavas, burros y burras, y camellos.
17Pero, debido a que el faraón llevó a Saray a su palacio, el Señor lo castigó a él y a su familia con terribles enfermedades.
18Entonces el faraón mandó a llamar a Abram, y le dijo: «¿Por qué me has hecho esto? ¿Por qué no me dijiste que Saray es tu esposa?
19Casi la tomo como esposa, confiado en que dijiste que era tu hermana. ¡Aquí está! ¡Tómala y vete!».
20Luego, el faraón ordenó a sus servidores que sacaran de Egipto a Abram y a su esposa, junto con todas sus posesiones.

1EMPERO Jehová había dicho á Abram: Vete de tu tierra y de tu parentela, y de la casa de tu padre, á la tierra que te mostraré;
2Y haré de ti una nación grande, y bendecirte he, y engrandeceré tu nombre, y serás bendición:
3Y bendeciré á los que te bendijeren, y á los que te maldijeren maldeciré: y serán benditas en ti todas las familias de la tierra.
4Y fuése Abram, como Jehová le dijo; y fué con él Lot: y era Abram de edad de setenta y cinco años cuando salió de Harán.
5Y tomó Abram á Sarai su mujer, y á Lot hijo de su hermano, y toda su hacienda que habían ganado, y las almas que habían adquirido en Harán, y salieron para ir á tierra de Canaán; y á tierra de Canaán llegaron.
6Y pasó Abram por aquella tierra hasta el lugar de Sichêm, hasta el valle de Moreh: y el Cananeo estaba entonces en la tierra.
7Y apareció Jehová á Abram, y le dijo: A tu simiente daré esta tierra. Y edificó allí un altar á Jehová, que le había aparecido.
8Y pasóse de allí á un monte al oriente de Bethel, y tendió su tienda, teniendo á Bethel al occidente y Hai al oriente: y edificó allí altar á Jehová, é invocó el nombre de Jehová.
9Y movió Abram de allí, caminando y yendo hacia el Mediodía.
10Y hubo hambre en la tierra, y descendió Abram á Egipto para peregrinar allá; porque era grande el hambre en la tierra.
11Y aconteció que cuando estaba para entrar en Egipto, dijo á Sarai su mujer: He aquí, ahora conozco que eres mujer hermosa de vista;
12Y será que cuando te habrán visto los Egipcios, dirán: Su mujer es: y me matarán á mí, y á ti te reservarán la vida.
13Ahora pues, di que eres mi hermana, para que yo haya bien por causa tuya, y viva mi alma por amor de ti.
14Y aconteció que, como entró Abram en Egipto, los Egipcios vieron la mujer que era hermosa en gran manera.
15Viéronla también los príncipes de Faraón, y se la alabaron; y fué llevada la mujer á casa de Faraón:
16E hizo bien á Abram por causa de ella; y tuvo ovejas, y vacas, y asnos, y siervos, y criadas, y asnas y camellos.
17Mas Jehová hirió á Faraón y á su casa con grandes plagas, por causa de Sarai mujer de Abram.
18Entonces Faraón llamó á Abram, y le dijo: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho conmigo? ¿Por qué no me declaraste que era tu mujer?
19¿Por qué dijiste: Es mi hermana? poniéndome en ocasión de tomarla para mí por mujer? Ahora pues, he aquí tu mujer, tómala y vete.
20Entonces Faraón dió orden á sus gentes acerca de Abram; y le acompañaron, y á su mujer con todo lo que tenía.

1Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
6And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
7And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.
8And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.
9And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.
10And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
11And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.
16And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
17And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife.
18And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
20And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
World English Bible
1Now the LORD said to Abram, “Leave your country, and your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you.
2I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing.
3I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who treats you with contempt. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”
4So Abram went, as the LORD had told him. Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
5Abram took Sarai his wife, Lot his brother’s son, all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they went to go into the land of Canaan. They entered into the land of Canaan.
6Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time, Canaanites were in the land.
7The LORD appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.” He built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.
8He left from there to go to the mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the LORD’s name.
9Abram traveled, still going on toward the South.
10There was a famine in the land. Abram went down into Egypt to live as a foreigner there, for the famine was severe in the land.
11When he had come near to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, “See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman to look at.
12It will happen that when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ They will kill me, but they will save you alive.
13Please say that you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that my soul may live because of you.”
14When Abram had come into Egypt, some Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.
15The princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.
16He dealt well with Abram for her sake. He had sheep, cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.
17The LORD afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.
18Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this that you have done to me? Why didn’t you tell me that she was your wife?
19Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her to be my wife? Now therefore, see your wife, take her, and go your way.”
20Pharaoh commanded men concerning him, and they escorted him away with his wife and all that he had.
