1Toute la terre avait une seule langue et les mêmes mots.
2Comme ils étaient partis de l’orient, ils trouvèrent une plaine au pays de Schinear, et ils y habitèrent.
3Ils se dirent l’un à l’autre: Allons! Faisons des briques, et cuisons-les au feu. Et la brique leur servit de pierre, et le bitume leur servit de ciment.
4Ils dirent encore: Allons! Bâtissons-nous une ville et une tour dont le sommet touche au ciel, et faisons-nous un nom, afin que nous ne soyons pas dispersés sur la face de toute la terre.
5L’Éternel descendit pour voir la ville et la tour que bâtissaient les fils des hommes.
6Et l’Éternel dit: Voici, ils forment un seul peuple et ont tous une même langue, et c’est là ce qu’ils ont entrepris; maintenant rien ne les empêcherait de faire tout ce qu’ils auraient projeté.
7Allons! Descendons, et là confondons leur langage, afin qu’ils n’entendent plus la langue, les uns des autres.
8Et l’Éternel les dispersa loin de là sur la face de toute la terre; et ils cessèrent de bâtir la ville.
9C’est pourquoi on l’appela du nom de Babel, car c’est là que l’Éternel confondit le langage de toute la terre, et c’est de là que l’Éternel les dispersa sur la face de toute la terre.
10Voici la postérité de Sem. Sem, âgé de cent ans, engendra Arpacschad, deux ans après le déluge.
11Sem vécut, après la naissance d’Arpacschad, cinq cents ans; et il engendra des fils et des filles.
12Arpacschad, âgé de trente-cinq ans, engendra Schélach.
13Arpacschad vécut, après la naissance de Schélach, quatre cent trois ans; et il engendra des fils et des filles.
14Schélach, âgé de trente ans, engendra Héber.
15Schélach vécut, après la naissance d’Héber, quatre cent trois ans; et il engendra des fils et des filles.
16Héber, âgé de trente-quatre ans, engendra Péleg.
17Héber vécut, après la naissance de Péleg, quatre cent trente ans; et il engendra des fils et des filles.
18Péleg, âgé de trente ans, engendra Rehu.
19Péleg vécut, après la naissance de Rehu, deux cent neuf ans; et il engendra des fils et des filles.
20Rehu, âgé de trente-deux ans, engendra Serug.
21Rehu vécut, après la naissance de Serug, deux cent sept ans; et il engendra des fils et des filles.
22Serug, âgé de trente ans, engendra Nachor.
23Serug vécut, après la naissance de Nachor, deux cents ans; et il engendra des fils et des filles.
24Nachor, âgé de vingt-neuf ans, engendra Térach.
25Nachor vécut, après la naissance de Térach, cent dix-neuf ans; et il engendra des fils et des filles.
26Térach, âgé de soixante-dix ans, engendra Abram, Nachor et Haran.
27Voici la postérité de Térach. Térach engendra Abram, Nachor et Haran. Haran engendra Lot.
28Et Haran mourut en présence de Térach, son père, au pays de sa naissance, à Ur en Chaldée.
29Abram et Nachor prirent des femmes: le nom de la femme d’Abram était Saraï, et le nom de la femme de Nachor était Milca, fille d’Haran, père de Milca et père de Jisca.
30Saraï était stérile: elle n’avait point d’enfants.
31Térach prit Abram, son fils, et Lot, fils d’Haran, fils de son fils, et Saraï, sa belle-fille, femme d’Abram, son fils. Ils sortirent ensemble d’Ur en Chaldée, pour aller au pays de Canaan. Ils vinrent jusqu’à Charan, et ils y habitèrent.
32Les jours de Térach furent de deux cent cinq ans; et Térach mourut à Charan.

1ERA entonces toda la tierra de una lengua y unas mismas palabras.
2Y aconteció que, como se partieron de oriente, hallaron una vega en la tierra de Shinar, y asentaron allí.
3Y dijeron los unos á los otros: Vaya, hagamos ladrillo y cozámoslo con fuego. Y fuéles el ladrillo en lugar de piedra, y el betún en lugar de mezcla.
4Y dijeron: Vamos, edifiquémonos una ciudad y una torre, cuya cúspide llegue al cielo; y hagámonos un nombre, por si fuéremos esparcidos sobre la faz de toda la tierra.
5Y descendió Jehová para ver la ciudad y la torre que edificaban los hijos de los hombres.
6Y dijo Jehová: He aquí el pueblo es uno, y todos éstos tienen un lenguaje: y han comenzado á obrar, y nada les retraerá ahora de lo que han pensando hacer.
7Ahora pues, descendamos, y confundamos allí sus lenguas, para que ninguno entienda el habla de su compañero.
8Así los esparció Jehová desde allí sobre la faz de toda la tierra, y dejaron de edificar la ciudad.
9Por esto fué llamado el nombre de ella Babel, porque allí confundió Jehová el lenguaje de toda la tierra, y desde allí los esparció sobre la faz de toda la tierra.
10Estas son las generaciones de Sem: Sem, de edad de cien años, engendró á Arphaxad, dos años después del diluvio.
11Y vivió Sem, después que engendró á Arphaxad, quinientos años, y engendró hijos é hijas.
12Y Arphaxad vivió treinta y cinco años, y engendró á Sala.

29Y tomaron Abram y Nachôr para sí mujeres: el nombre de la mujer de Abram fué Sarai, y el nombre de la mujer de Nachôr, Milca, hija de Harán, padre de Milca y de Isca.
30Mas Sarai fué estéril, y no tenía hijo.
31Y tomó Thare á Abram su hijo, y á Lot hijo de Harán, hijo de su hijo, y á Sarai su nuera, mujer de Abram su hijo: y salió con ellos de Ur de los Caldeos, para ir á la tierra de Canaán: y vinieron hasta Harán, y asentaron allí.
32Y fueron los días de Thare doscientos y cinco años; y murió Thare en Harán.

1And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
8So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
11And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

29And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
World English Bible
1The whole earth was of one language and of one speech.
2As they traveled east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they lived there.
3They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.
4They said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”
5The LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.
6The LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.
7Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”
8So the LORD scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.
9Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth. From there, the LORD scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.
10This is the history of the generations of Shem: Shem was one hundred years old when he became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood.
11Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arpachshad, and became the father of more sons and daughters.

27Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran became the father of Lot.
28Haran died in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees, while his father Terah was still alive.
29Abram and Nahor married wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, who was also the father of Iscah.
30Sarai was barren. She had no child.
31Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife. They went from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan. They came to Haran and lived there.
32The days of Terah were two hundred five years. Terah died in Haran.
