1Darauf, nach vierzehn Jahren, zog ich wiederum nach Jerusalem hinauf mit Barnabas und nahm auch Titus mit.
2Ich zog aber hinauf infolge einer Offenbarung und legte ihnen, insbesondere den Angesehenen, das Evangelium vor, das ich unter den Heiden verkündige, damit ich nicht etwa vergeblich liefe oder gelaufen wäre.
3Es wurde aber nicht einmal mein Begleiter, Titus, obschon er ein Grieche ist, gezwungen, sich beschneiden zu lassen.
4Was aber die eingeschlichenen falschen Brüder betrifft, die sich eingedrängt hatten, um unsere Freiheit auszukundschaften, die wir in Christus Jesus haben, damit sie uns unterjochen könnten,
5denen gaben wir auch nicht eine Stunde nach, daß wir uns ihnen unterworfen hätten, damit die Wahrheit des Evangeliums bei euch bestehen bliebe.
6Von denen aber, die etwas gelten (was sie früher waren, ist mir gleich; Gott achtet das Ansehen der Person nicht), mir haben diese Angesehenen nichts weiter auferlegt;
7sondern im Gegenteil, als sie sahen, daß ich mit dem Evangelium an die Unbeschnittenen betraut bin, gleichwie Petrus mit dem an die Beschneidung
8denn der, welcher in Petrus kräftig wirkte zum Apostelamt unter der Beschneidung, der wirkte auch in mir kräftig für die Heiden,
9und als sie die Gnade erkannten, die mir gegeben ist, reichten Jakobus und Kephas und Johannes, die für Säulen gelten, mir und Barnabas die Hand der Gemeinschaft, damit wir unter den Heiden, sie aber unter der Beschneidung wirkten;
10nur sollten wir der Armen gedenken, was ich mich auch beflissen habe zu tun.
11Als aber Petrus nach Antiochia kam, widerstand ich ihm ins Angesicht, denn er war angeklagt.
12Bevor nämlich etliche von Jakobus kamen, aß er mit den Heiden; als sie aber kamen, zog er sich zurück und sonderte sich ab, weil er die aus der Beschneidung fürchtete.
13Und es heuchelten mit ihm auch die übrigen Juden, so daß selbst Barnabas von ihrer Heuchelei mitfortgerissen wurde.
14Als ich aber sah, daß sie nicht richtig wandelten nach der Wahrheit des Evangeliums, sprach ich zu Petrus vor allen: Wenn du, der du ein Jude bist, heidnisch lebst und nicht jüdisch, was zwingst du die Heiden, jüdisch zu leben?
15Wir sind von Natur Juden und nicht Sünder aus den Heiden;
16da wir aber erkannt haben, daß der Mensch nicht aus Gesetzeswerken gerechtfertigt wird, sondern durch den Glauben an Jesus Christus, so sind auch wir an Christus Jesus gläubig geworden, damit wir aus dem Glauben an Christus gerechtfertigt würden, und nicht aus Gesetzeswerken, weil aus Gesetzeswerken kein Fleisch gerechtfertigt wird.
17Wenn wir aber, die wir in Christus gerechtfertigt zu werden suchen, auch selbst als Sünder erfunden würden, wäre demnach Christus ein Sündendiener? Das sei ferne!
18Denn wenn ich das, was ich niedergerissen habe, wieder aufbaue, so stelle ich mich selbst als Übertreter hin.
19Nun bin ich aber durchs Gesetz dem Gesetz gestorben, um Gott zu leben, ich bin mit Christus gekreuzigt.
20Und nicht mehr lebe ich, sondern Christus lebt in mir; was ich aber jetzt im Fleische lebe, das lebe ich im Glauben an den Sohn Gottes, der mich geliebt und sich selbst für mich hingegeben hat.
21Ich setze die Gnade Gottes nicht beiseite; denn wenn durch das Gesetz Gerechtigkeit kommt, so ist Christus vergeblich gestorben.

1DESPUÉS, pasados catorce años, fuí otra vez á Jerusalem juntamente con Bernabé, tomando también conmigo á Tito.
2Empero fuí por revelación, y comuniquéles el evangelio que predico entre los Gentiles; mas particularmente á los que parecían ser algo, por no correr en vano, ó haber corrido.
3Mas ni aun Tito, que estaba conmigo, siendo Griego, fué compelido á circuncidarse.
4Y eso por causa de los falsos hermanos, que se entraban secretamente para espiar nuestra libertad que tenemos en Cristo Jesús, para ponernos en servidumbre;
5A los cuales ni aun por una hora cedimos sujetándonos, para que la verdad del evangelio permaneciese con vosotros.
6Empero de aquellos que parecían ser algo (cuáles hayan sido algún tiempo, no tengo que ver; Dios no acepta apariencia de hombre), á mí ciertamente los que parecían ser algo, nada me dieron.
7Antes por el contrario, como vieron que el evangelio de la incircuncisión me era encargado, como á Pedro el de la circuncisión,
8(Porque el que hizo por Pedro para el apostolado de la circuncisión, hizo también por mí para con los Gentiles;)
9Y como vieron la gracia que me era dada, Jacobo y Cefas y Juan, que parecían ser las columnas, nos dieron las diestras de compañía á mí y á Bernabé, para que nosotros fuésemos á los Gentiles, y ellos á la circuncisión.
10Solamente nos pidieron que nos acordásemos de los pobres; lo mismo que fuí también solícito en hacer.
11Empero viniendo Pedro á Antioquía, le resistí en la cara, porque era de condenar.
12Porque antes que viniesen unos de parte de Jacobo, comía con los Gentiles; mas después que vinieron, se retraía y apartaba, teniendo miedo de los que eran de la circuncisión.
13Y á su disimulación consentían también los otros Judíos; de tal manera que aun Bernabé fué también llevado de ellos en su simulación.
14Mas cuando vi que no andaban derechamente conforme á la verdad del evangelio, dije á Pedro delante de todos: Si tú, siendo Judío, vives como los Gentiles y no como Judío, ¿por qué constriñes á los Gentiles á judaizar?
15Nosotros Judíos naturales, y no pecadores de los Gentiles,
16Sabiendo que el hombre no es justificado por las obras de la ley, sino por la fe de Jesucristo, nosotros también hemos creído en Jesucristo, para que fuésemos justificados por la fe de Cristo, y no por las obras de la ley; por cuanto por las obras de la ley ninguna carne será justificada.
17Y si buscando nosotros ser justificados en Cristo, también nosotros somos hallados pecadores, ¿es por eso Cristo ministro de pecado? En ninguna manera.
18Porque si las cosas que destruí, las mismas vuelvo á edificar, transgresor me hago.
19Porque yo por la ley soy muerto á la ley, para vivir á Dios.
20Con Cristo estoy juntamente crucificado, y vivo, no ya yo, mas vive Cristo en mí: y lo que ahora vivo en la carne, lo vivo en la fe del Hijo de Dios, el cual me amó, y se entregó á sí mismo por mí.
21No desecho la gracia de Dios: porque si por la ley fuese la justicia, entonces por demás murió Cristo.

1Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.
2And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
3But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:
4And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
5To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.
6But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth no man’s person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:
7But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
8(For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
9And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
10Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.
11But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
12For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
13And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
14But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
15We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
16Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
17But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
18For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
19For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
20I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
21I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

1Then after a period of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me.
2I went up by revelation, and I laid before them the Good News which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately before those who were respected, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain.
3But not even Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised.
4This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage,
5to whom we gave no place in the way of subjection, not for an hour, that the truth of the Good News might continue with you.
6But from those who were reputed to be important—whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God doesn’t show partiality to man—they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me,
7but to the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the Good News for the uncircumcised, even as Peter with the Good News for the circumcised—
8for he who worked through Peter in the apostleship with the circumcised also worked through me with the Gentiles—
9and when they perceived the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, those who were reputed to be pillars, gave to Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcision.
10They only asked us to remember the poor—which very thing I was also zealous to do.
11But when Peter came to Antioch, I resisted him to his face, because he stood condemned.
12For before some people came from James, he ate with the Gentiles. But when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.
13And the rest of the Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.
14But when I saw that they didn’t walk uprightly according to the truth of the Good News, I said to Peter before them all, “If you, being a Jew, live as the Gentiles do, and not as the Jews do, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as the Jews do?
15“We, being Jews by nature and not Gentile sinners,
16yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law.
17But if while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a servant of sin? Certainly not!
18For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a law-breaker.
19For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God.
20I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.
21I don’t reject the grace of God. For if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nothing!”
