1Und es erging das Wort Jahwes an mich folgendermaßen:
2Menschensohn, sprich zu deinen Volksgenossen und sage ihnen: Wenn ich das Schwert über ein Land kommen lasse, und die Bewohner des Landes nehmen aus ihrer Gesamtheit einen Mann und bestellen ihn für sich zum Wächter,
3und der sieht das Schwert über das Land kommen und stößt in die Trompete und warnt das Volk, -
4wenn dann der, welcher den Trompetenschall hört, sich nicht warnen läßt, und das Schwert kommt und rafft ihn hinweg, so sei sein Blut auf seinem Haupte!
5Er hat den Trompetenschall gehört, hat sich aber nicht warnen lassen: sein Blut sei auf ihm! Jener aber hat gewarnt und sein Leben gerettet.
6Wenn aber der Wächter das Schwert kommen sieht und nicht in die Trompete stößt, und das Volk somit nicht gewarnt wird, und es kommt das Schwert und rafft jemanden von ihnen dahin: so wird dieser infolge seiner Verschuldung dahingerafft, aber sein Blut will ich von der Hand des Wächters verlangen.
7Dich aber, o Menschensohn, habe ich zum Wächter für das Haus Israel bestellt, damit du sie, wenn du aus meinem Mund ein Wort vernommen hast, von meinetwegen verwarnest.
8Wenn ich zum Gottlosen sage: Gottloser, du mußt sterben! und du sagst nichts, um den Gottlosen wegen seines Wandels zu verwarnen, so wird er, der Gottlose infolge seiner Verschuldung sterben, aber sein Blut will ich von deiner Hand verlangen.
9Wenn du aber deinerseits den Gottlosen wegen seines Wandels verwarnt hast, daß er sich von ihm bekehren soll, er sich aber nicht von seinem Wandel bekehrt, so wird er zwar infolge seiner Verschuldung sterben, aber du hast sein Leben gerettet.
10Und du, o Menschensohn, sprich zum Hause Israel: Folgendermaßen habt ihr gesagt: Fürwahr, unsere Abtrünnigkeiten und unsere Sünden lasten auf uns, und durch sie schwinden wir dahin und wie könnten wir mit dem Leben davonkommen?
11Sprich zu ihnen: So wahr ich lebe, ist der Spruch des Herrn Jahwe: ich habe keineswegs Wohlgefallen am Tode des Gottlosen, sondern daran, daß sich der Gottlose von seinem Wandel bekehrt und am Leben bleibt. Bekehrt euch, bekehrt euch von euren bösen Wegen! Warum wollt ihr denn sterben, Haus Israel?
12Du aber, o Menschensohn, sprich zu deinen Volksgenossen: den Frommen wird seine Frömmigkeit nicht retten an dem Tage, da er sich vergeht, und den Gottlosen wird seine Gottlosigkeit nicht zu Falle bringen an dem Tage, da er sich von seiner Gottlosigkeit bekehrt; aber auch ein Frommer kann durch sie nicht am Leben erhalten bleiben am Tage, da er sich versündigt.
13Wenn ich zu den Frommen sage: du sollst sicher am Leben bleiben! und er verläßt sich auf seine bisherige Frömmigkeit und verübt Frevel, so soll aller seiner frommen Thaten nicht mehr gedacht werden, sondern wegen seines Frevels, den er verübt hat, soll er sterben.
14Und wenn ich zu den Gottlosen sagen: du mußt sterben! und er bekehrt sich von seiner Sünde und übt fortan Recht und Gerechtigkeit,
15giebt Pfänder zurück, erstattet das Geraubte wieder, wandelt nach den Satzungen, die zum Leben führen, so daß er keinen Frevel verübt: der soll leben bleiben und nicht sterben!
16Alle seine Sünden, die er zuvor begangen, sollen ihm nicht angerechnet werden: Recht und Gerechtigkeit hat er geübt, er soll am Leben bleiben!
17Und da sprechen die Volksgenossen: das Verfahren des Herrn ist nicht in Ordnung, während doch ihr eignes Verfahren nicht in Ordnung ist?
18Wenn ein Frommer von seiner Frömmigkeit abläßt und Frevel verübt, so muß er deswegen sterben.
19Und wenn sich ein Gottloser von seiner Gottlosigkeit bekehrt und fortan Recht und Gerechtigkeit übt, so soll er infolgedessen am Leben bleiben.
20Und da sprecht ihr: das Verfahren des Herrn ist nicht in Ordnung? Einen jeden von euch werde ich nach seinem Wandel richten, Haus Israel!
21Im elften Jahr aber nach unserer Wegführung, im zehnten Monat, am fünften des Monats kam zu mir ein Flüchtling von Jerusalem mit der Kunde: die Stadt ist erobert!
22Nun war am Abend vor dem Eintreffen des Flüchtlings die Hand Jahwes über mich gekommen, und er hatte mir den Mund aufgethan, ehe jener am Morgen zu mir kam, und mein Mund blieb aufgethan, und ich war nicht länger stumm.
23Und das Wort Jahwes erging an mich folgendermaßen:
24Menschensohn, die Bewohner dieser Trümmer im Land Israel sprechen also: Abraham war nur ein einzelner Mann und bekam doch das Land zum Besitz; unser aber sind viele: und ward das Land zum Besitztume gegeben!
25Darum sprich zu ihnen: So spricht der Herr Jahwe: Auf den Bergen eßt ihr Opferfleisch und zu euren Götzen erhebt ihr eure Augen und Blut vergießt ihr - und da wollt ihr das Land zum Besitz haben?
26Ihr steift euch auf euer Schwert, ihr verübt Greuel, ihr verunreinigt einer des andern Weib - und da wollt ihr das Land zum Besitz haben?
27So sollst du zu ihnen sprechen: So spricht der Herr Jahwe: So wahr ich lebe: die auf den Trümmern sind, sollen durchs Schwert fallen, die auf freiem Felde sind, gebe ich den wilden Tieren zum Fraße, und die auf den Felsklippen und in den Höhlen sind, sollen an der Pest sterben.
28Und ich will das Land zur Wüstenei und zur Wüste machen, und aus ist's mit seiner stolzen Hoffart, und die Berge Israels sollen wüste liegen, daß niemand mehr über sie dahinzieht.
29Und sie werden erkennen, daß ich Jahwe bin wenn ich dies Land zur Wüstenei und zur Wüste mache wegen aller ihrer Greuel, die sie verübt haben.
30Menschensohn, deine Volksgenossen unterreden sich über dich an den Wänden und in den Hausthüren; da sagen sie untereinander also: Kommt doch und hört, was für ein Ausspruch von Jahwe ausgeht!
31Und sie kommen zu dir scharenweise und sitzen vor dir; aber wenn sie deine Worte angehört haben, so thun sie doch nicht darnach. Denn Lügen haben sie im Mund, aber ihr Herz läuft ihrem Gewinne nach.
32Und fürwahr: du bist für sie wie ein Liebeslied, wie einer, der eine schöne Stimme hat und trefflich die Saiten spielt; und so hören sie deine Worte an, thun aber nicht darnach.
33Aber wenn es eintrifft, - und es trifft ein, fürwahr! - dann werden sie erkennen, daß ein Prophet unter ihnen war.

1Y FUÉ á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
2Hijo del hombre, habla á los hijos de tu pueblo, y diles: Cuando trajere yo espada sobre la tierra, y el pueblo de la tierra tomare un hombre de sus términos, y se lo pusiere por atalaya,
3Y él viere venir la espada sobre la tierra, y tocare corneta, y avisare al pueblo;
4Cualquiera que oyere el sonido de la corneta, y no se apercibiere, y viniendo la espada lo tomare, su sangre será sobre su cabeza.
5El sonido de la corneta oyó, y no se apercibió; su sangre será sobre él: mas el que se apercibiere, librará su vida.
6Pero si el atalaya viere venir la espada, y no tocare la corneta, y el pueblo no se apercibiere, y viniendo la espada, tomare de él alguno; él por causa de su pecado fué tomado, mas demandaré su sangre de mano del atalaya.
7Tú pues, hijo del hombre, yo te he puesto por atalaya á la casa de Israel, y oirás la palabra de mi boca, y los apercibirás de mi parte.
8Diciendo yo al impío: Impío, de cierto morirás; si tú no hablares para que se guarde el impío de su camino, el impío morirá por su pecado, mas su sangre yo la demandaré de tu mano.
9Y si tú avisares al impío de su camino para que de él se aparte, y él no se apartare de su camino, por su pecado morirá él, y tú libraste tu vida.
10Tú pues, hijo del hombre, di á la casa de Israel: Vosotros habéis hablado así, diciendo: Nuestras rebeliones y nuestros pecados están sobre nosotros, y á causa de ellos somos consumidos: ¿cómo pues viviremos?
11Diles: Vivo yo, dice el Señor Jehová, que no quiero la muerte del impío, sino que se torne el impío de su camino, y que viva. Volveos, volveos de vuestros malos caminos: ¿y por qué moriréis, oh casa de Israel?
12Y tú, hijo del hombre, di á los hijos de tu pueblo: La justicia del justo no lo librará el día que se rebelare; y la impiedad del impío no le será estorbo el día que se volviere de su impiedad; y el justo no podrá vivir por su justicia el día que pecare.
13Diciendo yo al justo, De cierto vivirá, y él confiado en su justicia hiciere iniquidad, todas sus justicias no vendrán en memoria, sino que morirá por su iniquidad que hizo.
14Y diciendo yo al impío: De cierto morirás; si él se volviere de su pecado, é hiciere juicio y justicia,
15Si el impío restituyere la prenda, devolviere lo que hubiere robado, caminare en las ordenanzas de la vida, no haciendo iniquidad, vivirá ciertamente y no morirá.
16No se le recordará ninguno de sus pecados que había cometido: hizo juicio y justicia; vivirá ciertamente.
17Luego dirán los hijos de tu pueblo: No es recta la vía del Señor: la vía de ellos es la que no es recta.
18Cuando el justo se apartare de su justicia, é hiciere iniquidad, morirá por ello.
19Y cuando el impío se apartare de su impiedad, é hiciere juicio y justicia, vivirá por ello.
20Y dijisteis: No es recta la vía del Señor. Yo os juzgaré, oh casa de Israel, á cada uno conforme á sus caminos.
21Y aconteció en el año duodécimo de nuestro cautiverio, en el mes décimo, á los cinco del mes, que vino á mí un escapado de Jerusalem, diciendo: La ciudad ha sido herida.
22Y la mano de Jehová había sido sobre mí la tarde antes que el escapado viniese, y había abierto mi boca, hasta que vino á mí por la mañana; y abrió mi boca, y no más estuve callado.
23Y fué á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
24Hijo del hombre, los que habitan aquellos desiertos en la tierra de Israel, hablando dicen: Abraham era uno, y poseyó la tierra: pues nosotros somos muchos; á nosotros es dada la tierra en posesión.
25Por tanto, diles: Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: ¿Con sangre comeréis, y á vuestros ídolos alzaréis vuestros ojos, y sangre derramaréis, y poseeréis vosotros la tierra?
26Estuvisteis sobre vuestras espadas, hicisteis abominación, y contaminasteis cada cual la mujer de su prójimo: ¿y habréis de poseer la tierra?
27Les dirás así: Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: Vivo yo, que los que están en aquellos asolamientos caerán á cuchillo, y al que está sobre la haz del campo entregaré á las bestias que lo devoren; y los que están en las fortalezas y en las cuevas, de pestilencia morirán.
28Y pondré la tierra en desierto y en soledad, y cesará la soberbia de su fortaleza; y los montes de Israel serán asolados, que no haya quien pase.
29Y sabrán que yo soy Jehová, cuando pusiere la tierra en soledad y desierto, por todas las abominaciones que han hecho.
30Y tú, hijo del hombre, los hijos de tu pueblo se mofan de ti junto á las paredes y á las puertas de las casas, y habla el uno con el otro, cada uno con su hermano, diciendo: Venid ahora, y oid qué palabra sale de Jehová.
31Y vendrán á ti como viene el pueblo, y se estarán delante de ti como mi pueblo, y oirán tus palabras, y no las pondrán por obra: antes hacen halagos con sus bocas, y el corazón de ellos anda en pos de su avaricia.
32Y he aquí que tú eres á ellos como cantor de amores, gracioso de voz y que canta bien: y oirán tus palabras, mas no las pondrán por obra.
33Empero cuando ello viniere (he aquí viene) sabrán que hubo profeta entre ellos.

1Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
5He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
6But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.
7So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.
8When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
9Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
10Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?
11Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
12Therefore, thou son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth.
13When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it.
14Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right;
15If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.
16None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.
17Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.
18When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby.
19But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.
20Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.
21And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.
22Now the hand of the LORD was upon me in the evening, afore he that was escaped came; and had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.
23Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
24Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance.
25Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land?
26Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbour’s wife: and shall ye possess the land?
27Say thou thus unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely they that are in the wastes shall fall by the sword, and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured, and they that be in the forts and in the caves shall die of the pestilence.
28For I will lay the land most desolate, and the pomp of her strength shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, that none shall pass through.
29Then shall they know that I am the LORD, when I have laid the land most desolate because of all their abominations which they have committed.
30Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the LORD.
31And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.
32And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.
33And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

1The LORD’s word came to me, saying,
2“Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and tell them, ‘When I bring the sword on a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and set him for their watchman,
3if, when he sees the sword come on the land, he blows the trumpet and warns the people,
4then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and doesn’t heed the warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be on his own head.
5He heard the sound of the trumpet and didn’t take warning. His blood will be on him; whereas if he had heeded the warning, he would have delivered his soul.
6But if the watchman sees the sword come and doesn’t blow the trumpet, and the people aren’t warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’
7“So you, son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel. Therefore hear the word from my mouth, and give them warnings from me.
8When I tell the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ and you don’t speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at your hand.
9Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, and he doesn’t turn from his way; he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul.
10“You, son of man, tell the house of Israel: ‘You say this, “Our transgressions and our sins are on us, and we pine away in them. How then can we live?”’
11Tell them, ‘“As I live,” says the Lord GOD, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why will you die, house of Israel?”’
12“You, son of man, tell the children of your people, ‘The righteousness of the righteous will not deliver him in the day of his disobedience. And as for the wickedness of the wicked, he will not fall by it in the day that he turns from his wickedness; neither will he who is righteous be able to live by it in the day that he sins.
13When I tell the righteous that he will surely live, if he trusts in his righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but he will die in his iniquity that he has committed.
14Again, when I say to the wicked, “You will surely die,” if he turns from his sin and does that which is lawful and right,
15if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that which he had taken by robbery, walk in the statutes of life, committing no iniquity, he will surely live. He will not die.
16None of his sins that he has committed will be remembered against him. He has done that which is lawful and right. He will surely live.

20Yet you say, “The way of the Lord is not fair.” House of Israel, I will judge every one of you after his ways.’”
21In the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, one who had escaped out of Jerusalem came to me, saying, “The city has been defeated!”
22Now the LORD’s hand had been on me in the evening, before he who had escaped came; and he had opened my mouth until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no longer mute.
23The LORD’s word came to me, saying,
24“Son of man, those who inhabit the waste places in the land of Israel speak, saying, ‘Abraham was one, and he inherited the land; but we are many. The land is given us for inheritance.’
25Therefore tell them, ‘The Lord GOD says: “You eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes to your idols, and shed blood. So should you possess the land?
26You stand on your sword, you work abomination, and every one of you defiles his neighbor’s wife. So should you possess the land?”’
27“You shall tell them, ‘The Lord GOD says: “As I live, surely those who are in the waste places will fall by the sword. I will give whoever is in the open field to the animals to be devoured, and those who are in the strongholds and in the caves will die of the pestilence.
28I will make the land a desolation and an astonishment. The pride of her power will cease. The mountains of Israel will be desolate, so that no one will pass through.
29Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I have made the land a desolation and an astonishment because of all their abominations which they have committed.”’
30“As for you, son of man, the children of your people talk about you by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak to one another, everyone to his brother, saying, ‘Please come and hear what the word is that comes out from the LORD.’
31They come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but don’t do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.
32Behold, you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they don’t do them.
33“When this comes to pass—behold, it comes—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”
