1And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2Son of man, relate a tale, and speak a parable to the house of Israel:
3and thou shalt say, Thus saith the Lord; Gr. the great eagle A great eagle with large wings, spreading them out very far, with many claws, which has the design of entering into Libanus—and he took the choice branches of the cedar:
4he cropped off the ends of the tender twigs, and brought them into the land of Alex. of the Chaldeans Chanaan; he laid them up in a walled city.
5And he took of the seed of the land, and sowed it in a field planted by much water; he set it in a conspicuous place.
6And it sprang up, and became a Alex. euyhnousan, flourishing weak and little vine, so that the branches thereof appeared upon it, and its roots were under it: and it became a vine, and put forth shoots, and sent forth its tendrils.
7And there was another great eagle, with great wings and many claws: and, behold, this vine bent itself round toward him, and her roots were turned towards him, and she sent forth her branches towards him, that he might water her together with the growth of her plantation.
8She thrives in a fair field by much water, to produce shoots and bear fruit, that she might become a great vine.
9Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord; Shall it prosper? shall not the roots of her tender stem and her fruit be blighted? yea, all her early shoots shall be dried up, and that not by a mighty arm, nor by many people, to tear her up from her roots.
10And, behold, it thrives: shall it prosper? shall it not wither as soon as the east wind touches it? it shall be withered together with the growth of its shoots.
11Moreover the word of the Lord came to me saying,
12Son of man, say now to the provoking house, Know ye not what these things were? say to them, Whenever the king of Babylon shall come against Jerusalem, then he shall take her king and her princes, and shall take them Or, with him home to Babylon.
13And he shall take of the seed royal, and shall make a covenant with him, and shall bind him with an oath: and he shall take the princes of the land:
14that it may become a weak kingdom, so as never to lift itself up, that he may keep his covenant, and establish it.
15And if he shall revolt from him, to send his messengers into Egypt, that they may give him horses and much people; shall he prosper? shall he that Or, acts perversely acts as an adversary be preserved? and shall he that transgresses the covenant be preserved?
16As I live, saith the Lord, verily in the place Alex. en w o basileuv, in which the king is where the king is that made him king, who dishonoured my oath, and who broke my covenant, shall he die with him in the midst of Babylon.
17And Pharao shall make war upon him not with a large force or great multitude, in throwing up a mound, and in building of Or, warlike engines forts, to cut off souls.
18Whereas he has Lit. dishonoured profaned the oath so as to break the covenant, when, behold, I engage his hand, and he has done all these things to him, he shall not escape.
19Therefore say, Thus saith the Lord; As I live, surely mine oath which he has profaned, and my covenant which he has transgressed, I will even recompense it upon his head.
20And I will spread a net upon him, and he shall be caught in its snare.
21Alex. +’and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his wrongs, which he committed against me.’ In every battle of his they shall fall by the sword, and I will scatter his remnant to every wind: and ye shall know that I the Lord have spoken it.
22For thus saith the Lord; I will even take of the choice branches of the cedar from the top thereof, I will crop off their hearts, and I will plant it on a high mountain:
23and I will hang it on a lofty mountain of Israel: yea, I will plant it, and it shall put forth shoots, and shall bear fruit, and it shall be a great cedar: and every bird shall rest beneath it, even every fowl shall rest under its shadow: its branches shall be restored.
24And all the trees of the field shall know that I am the Lord that bring low the high tree, and exalt the low tree, and wither the green tree, and cause the dry tree to flourish: I the Lord have spoken, and will do it.

1Y FUÉ á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
2Hijo del hombre, propón una figura, y compón una parábola á la casa de Israel.
3Y dirás: Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: Una grande águila, de grandes alas y de largos miembros, llena de plumas de diversos colores, vino al Líbano, y tomó el cogollo del cedro:
4Arrancó el principal de sus renuevos, y llevólo á la tierra de mercaderes, y púsolo en la ciudad de los negociantes.
5Tomó también de la simiente de la tierra, y púsola en un campo bueno para sembrar, plantóla junto á grandes aguas, púsola como un sauce.
6Y brotó, é hízose una vid de mucha rama, baja de estatura, que sus ramas la miraban, y sus raíces estaban debajo de ella: así que se hizo una vid, y arrojó sarmientos, y echó mugrones.
7Y fué otra grande águila, de grandes alas y de muchas plumas; y he aquí que esta vid juntó cerca de ella sus raíces, y extendió hacia ella sus ramos, para ser regada por ella por los surcos de su plantío.
8En un buen campo, junto á muchas aguas fué plantada, para que hiciese ramos y llevase fruto, y para que fuese vid robusta.
9Di: Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: ¿Será prosperada? ¿No arrancará sus raíces, y destruirá su fruto, y secaráse? Todas las hojas de su lozanía secará, y no con gran brazo, ni con mucha gente, arrancándola de sus raíces.
10Y he aquí que plantada está ella, ¿será prosperada? ¿No se secará del todo cuando el viento solano la tocare? En los surcos de su verdor se secará.
11Y fué á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
12Di ahora á la casa rebelde: ¿No habéis entendido qué significan estas cosas? Diles: He aquí que el rey de Babilonia vino á Jerusalem, y tomó tu rey y sus príncipes, y llevólos consigo á Babilonia.
13Tomó también de la simiente del reino, é hizo con él alianza, y trájole á juramento; y tomó los fuertes de la tierra,
14Para que el reino fuese abatido y no se levantase, sino que guardase su alianza y estuviese en ella.
15Rebelóse empero contra él enviando sus embajadores á Egipto, para que le diese caballos y mucha gente. ¿Será prosperado, escapará, el que estas cosas hizo? ¿y el que rompió la alianza, podrá huir?
16Vivo yo, dice el Señor Jehová, que morirá en medio de Babilonia, en el lugar del rey que le hizo reinar, cuyo juramento menospreció, y cuya alianza con él hecha rompió.
17Y no con grande ejército, ni con mucha compañía hará con él Faraón en la batalla, cuando funden baluarte y edifiquen bastiones para cortar muchas vidas.
18Pues menospreció el juramento, para invalidar el concierto cuando he aquí que había dado su mano, é hizo todas estas cosas, no escapará.
19Por tanto, así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: Vivo yo, que el juramento mío que menospreció, y mi concierto que ha invalidado, tornaré sobre su cabeza.
20Y extenderé sobre él mi red, y será preso en mi malla; y hacerlo he venir á Babilonia, y allí estaré á juicio con él, por su prevaricación con que contra mí se ha rebelado.
21Y todos sus fugitivos con todos sus escuadrones caerán á cuchillo, y los que quedaren serán esparcidos á todo viento; y sabréis que yo Jehová he hablado.
22Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: Y tomaré yo del cogollo de aquel alto cedro, y pondrélo; del principal de sus renuevos cortaré un tallo, y plantarlo he yo sobre el monte alto y sublime;
23En el monte alto de Israel lo plantaré, y alzará ramos, y llevará fruto, y haráse magnífico cedro; y habitarán debajo de él todas las aves, toda cosa que vuela habitará á la sombra de sus ramos.
24Y sabrán todos los árboles del campo que yo Jehová abatí el árbol sublime, levanté el árbol bajo, hice secar el árbol verde, é hice reverdecer el árbol seco. Yo Jehová hablé é hice.

1And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;
3And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:
4He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.
5He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.
6And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.
7There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.
8It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.
9Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.
10Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.
11Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
12Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;
13And hath taken of the king’s seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:
14That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.
15But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?
16As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
17Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:
18Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.
19Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.
20And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.
21And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.
22Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:
23In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.
24And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.

1The LORD’s word came to me, saying,
2“Son of man, tell a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel;
3and say, ‘The Lord GOD says: “A great eagle with great wings and long feathers, full of feathers which had various colors, came to Lebanon and took the top of the cedar.
4He cropped off the topmost of its young twigs, and carried it to a land of traffic. He planted it in a city of merchants.
5“‘“He also took some of the seed of the land and planted it in fruitful soil. He placed it beside many waters. He set it as a willow tree.
6It grew and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and its roots were under him. So it became a vine, produced branches, and shot out sprigs.
7“‘“There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers. Behold, this vine bent its roots toward him, and shot out its branches toward him, from the ground where it was planted, that he might water it.
8It was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might produce branches and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a good vine.”’
9“Say, ‘The Lord GOD says: “Will it prosper? Won’t he pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, that it may wither, that all its fresh springing leaves may wither? It can’t be raised from its roots by a strong arm or many people.
10Yes, behold, being planted, will it prosper? Won’t it utterly wither when the east wind touches it? It will wither in the ground where it grew.”’”
11Moreover the LORD’s word came to me, saying,
12“Say now to the rebellious house, ‘Don’t you know what these things mean?’ Tell them, ‘Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took its king, and its princes, and brought them to him to Babylon.
13He took one of the royal offspring, and made a covenant with him. He also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land,
14that the kingdom might be brought low, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping his covenant it might stand.
15But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and many people. Will he prosper? Will he who does such things escape? Will he break the covenant, and still escape?
16“‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the middle of Babylon he will die.
17Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company won’t help him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build forts to cut off many persons.
18For he has despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet has done all these things. He won’t escape.
19“Therefore the Lord GOD says: ‘As I live, I will surely bring on his own head my oath that he has despised and my covenant that he has broken.
20I will spread my net on him, and he will be taken in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon, and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me.
21All his fugitives in all his bands will fall by the sword, and those who remain will be scattered toward every wind. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken it.’
22“The Lord GOD says: ‘I will also take some of the lofty top of the cedar, and will plant it. I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.
23I will plant it in the mountain of the height of Israel; and it will produce boughs, and bear fruit, and be a good cedar. Birds of every kind will dwell in the shade of its branches.
24All the trees of the field will know that I, the LORD, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree flourish. “‘I, the LORD, have spoken and have done it.’”
