1Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée en ces mots :
2Fils d'homme, dis une énigme et raconte une parabole à la maison d'Israël,
3et dis : Ainsi parle le Seigneur l'Eternel : Le grand aigle, aux grandes ailes et à la large envergure, chargé de plumage aux couleurs variées, vint au Liban et enleva la cime d'un cèdre.
4Après avoir arraché le plus élevé de ses rameaux, il l'emporta dans un pays de Canaan ; il le plaça dans une ville de marchands.
5Puis il prit du plant du pays et le confia à un sol fertile ; il le mit près d'une eau abondante et le planta comme un saule.
6Le rejeton poussa et devint un cep de vigne, étendu, peu élevé, ses sarments tournés vers l'aigle et ses racines sous lui ; il devint un cep, donna des jets et poussa des rameaux.
7Et il y avait un autre grand aigle, aux grandes ailes et au plumage abondant ; et voici, ce cep tendit ses racines vers lui et des couches où il était planté, poussa vers lui ses sarments pour qu'il l'arrosât.
8Il était planté dans un bon terrain, près d'eaux abondantes, de manière à pousser du feuillage et à porter du fruit pour devenir un cep magnifique.
9Dis : Ainsi parle le Seigneur l'Eternel : Prospérera-t-il ? N'arrachera-t-on pas ses racines et n'abattra-t-on pas son fruit de sorte qu'il sèche ? Toutes les jeunes feuilles qu'il poussait sécheront. Et il ne faudra ni un bras fort ni beaucoup de gens pour l'enlever de ses racines.
10Voici, il est planté, prospérera-t-il ? Dès que le vent d'orient le touchera, ne séchera-t-il pas entièrement ? Sur les couches où il a poussé, il séchera.
11Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée en ces mots :
12Dis, je te prie, à la maison rebelle : Ne savez-vous pas ce que cela signifie ? Dis : Voici, le roi de Babel, étant venu à Jérusalem, prit son roi et ses chefs et les fit venir vers lui à Babel.
13Puis il prit un rejeton de la race royale ; il traita alliance avec lui et lui fit prêter serment ; il avait pris les hommes puissants du pays,
14pour que le royaume fût tenu bas, ne pouvant s'élever, gardant son alliance pour subsister.
15Mais il s'est révolté contre lui, en envoyant ses messagers en Egypte pour qu'on lui donnât des chevaux et beaucoup d'hommes. Réussira-t-il ? Celui qui fait de telles choses, échappera-t-il ? Il a rompu l'alliance et il échapperait !
16Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel : c'est dans la résidence du roi qui l'a fait régner, envers qui il a violé le serment et dont il a rompu l'alliance, c'est chez lui, dans Babel, qu'il mourra.
17Et Pharaon n'agira pas pour lui avec une grande armée et un peuple nombreux, en faisant la guerre quand on élèvera des terrasses et qu'on construira des tours pour faire périr beaucoup d'hommes.
18Il a méprisé le serment en rompant l'alliance, et pourtant il avait donné sa main ; il a fait tout cela, il n'échappera pas.
19C'est pourquoi le Seigneur l'Eternel parle ainsi : Je suis vivant : c'est mon serment qu'il a méprisé, et mon alliance qu'il a rompue, et je ferai retomber cela sur sa tête.
20J'étendrai sur lui mon filet et il sera pris dans mes rets ; je le ferai venir à Babel, et là je le tirerai en cause pour la félonie dont il s'est rendu coupable à mon égard.
21Et tous les fuyards de tous ses bataillons tomberont par l'épée, et ceux qui resteront seront dispersés à tout vent, et vous saurez que moi, l'Eternel, j'ai parlé.
22Ainsi parle le Seigneur l'Eternel : Je prendrai, moi, le bout de la cime du cèdre élevé et je le placerai..., de l'extrémité de ses branches je prendrai un tendre rameau et je le planterai sur une montagne haute et élevée.
23Je le planterai sur la haute montagne d'Israël ; il poussera du feuillage et portera du fruit et il deviendra un cèdre majestueux ; tout passereau habitera sous son ombre ; tout oiseau habitera à l'ombre de ses rameaux ;
24et tous les arbres des champs sauront que moi, l'Eternel, j'ai abaissé l'arbre élevé et élevé celui qui était bas, que j'ai fait sécher l'arbre vert et fait pousser l'arbre sec. Moi l'Eternel, je l'ai dit et je le ferai.

1Y FUÉ á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
2Hijo del hombre, propón una figura, y compón una parábola á la casa de Israel.
3Y dirás: Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: Una grande águila, de grandes alas y de largos miembros, llena de plumas de diversos colores, vino al Líbano, y tomó el cogollo del cedro:
4Arrancó el principal de sus renuevos, y llevólo á la tierra de mercaderes, y púsolo en la ciudad de los negociantes.
5Tomó también de la simiente de la tierra, y púsola en un campo bueno para sembrar, plantóla junto á grandes aguas, púsola como un sauce.
6Y brotó, é hízose una vid de mucha rama, baja de estatura, que sus ramas la miraban, y sus raíces estaban debajo de ella: así que se hizo una vid, y arrojó sarmientos, y echó mugrones.
7Y fué otra grande águila, de grandes alas y de muchas plumas; y he aquí que esta vid juntó cerca de ella sus raíces, y extendió hacia ella sus ramos, para ser regada por ella por los surcos de su plantío.
8En un buen campo, junto á muchas aguas fué plantada, para que hiciese ramos y llevase fruto, y para que fuese vid robusta.
9Di: Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: ¿Será prosperada? ¿No arrancará sus raíces, y destruirá su fruto, y secaráse? Todas las hojas de su lozanía secará, y no con gran brazo, ni con mucha gente, arrancándola de sus raíces.
10Y he aquí que plantada está ella, ¿será prosperada? ¿No se secará del todo cuando el viento solano la tocare? En los surcos de su verdor se secará.
11Y fué á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
12Di ahora á la casa rebelde: ¿No habéis entendido qué significan estas cosas? Diles: He aquí que el rey de Babilonia vino á Jerusalem, y tomó tu rey y sus príncipes, y llevólos consigo á Babilonia.
13Tomó también de la simiente del reino, é hizo con él alianza, y trájole á juramento; y tomó los fuertes de la tierra,
14Para que el reino fuese abatido y no se levantase, sino que guardase su alianza y estuviese en ella.
15Rebelóse empero contra él enviando sus embajadores á Egipto, para que le diese caballos y mucha gente. ¿Será prosperado, escapará, el que estas cosas hizo? ¿y el que rompió la alianza, podrá huir?
16Vivo yo, dice el Señor Jehová, que morirá en medio de Babilonia, en el lugar del rey que le hizo reinar, cuyo juramento menospreció, y cuya alianza con él hecha rompió.
17Y no con grande ejército, ni con mucha compañía hará con él Faraón en la batalla, cuando funden baluarte y edifiquen bastiones para cortar muchas vidas.
18Pues menospreció el juramento, para invalidar el concierto cuando he aquí que había dado su mano, é hizo todas estas cosas, no escapará.
19Por tanto, así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: Vivo yo, que el juramento mío que menospreció, y mi concierto que ha invalidado, tornaré sobre su cabeza.
20Y extenderé sobre él mi red, y será preso en mi malla; y hacerlo he venir á Babilonia, y allí estaré á juicio con él, por su prevaricación con que contra mí se ha rebelado.
21Y todos sus fugitivos con todos sus escuadrones caerán á cuchillo, y los que quedaren serán esparcidos á todo viento; y sabréis que yo Jehová he hablado.
22Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: Y tomaré yo del cogollo de aquel alto cedro, y pondrélo; del principal de sus renuevos cortaré un tallo, y plantarlo he yo sobre el monte alto y sublime;
23En el monte alto de Israel lo plantaré, y alzará ramos, y llevará fruto, y haráse magnífico cedro; y habitarán debajo de él todas las aves, toda cosa que vuela habitará á la sombra de sus ramos.
24Y sabrán todos los árboles del campo que yo Jehová abatí el árbol sublime, levanté el árbol bajo, hice secar el árbol verde, é hice reverdecer el árbol seco. Yo Jehová hablé é hice.

1And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;
3And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:
4He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.
5He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.
6And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.
7There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward him, and shot forth her branches toward him, that he might water it by the furrows of her plantation.
8It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.
9Say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? it shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.
10Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the furrows where it grew.
11Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
12Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon is come to Jerusalem, and hath taken the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babylon;
13And hath taken of the king’s seed, and made a covenant with him, and hath taken an oath of him: he hath also taken the mighty of the land:
14That the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping of his covenant it might stand.
15But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? or shall he break the covenant, and be delivered?
16As I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
17Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company make for him in the war, by casting up mounts, and building forts, to cut off many persons:
18Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, when, lo, he had given his hand, and hath done all these things, he shall not escape.
19Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, even it will I recompense upon his own head.
20And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.
21And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.
22Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also take of the highest branch of the high cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the top of his young twigs a tender one, and will plant it upon an high mountain and eminent:
23In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell.
24And all the trees of the field shall know that I the LORD have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish: I the LORD have spoken and have done it.

1The LORD’s word came to me, saying,
2“Son of man, tell a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel;
3and say, ‘The Lord GOD says: “A great eagle with great wings and long feathers, full of feathers which had various colors, came to Lebanon and took the top of the cedar.
4He cropped off the topmost of its young twigs, and carried it to a land of traffic. He planted it in a city of merchants.
5“‘“He also took some of the seed of the land and planted it in fruitful soil. He placed it beside many waters. He set it as a willow tree.
6It grew and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and its roots were under him. So it became a vine, produced branches, and shot out sprigs.
7“‘“There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers. Behold, this vine bent its roots toward him, and shot out its branches toward him, from the ground where it was planted, that he might water it.
8It was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might produce branches and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a good vine.”’
9“Say, ‘The Lord GOD says: “Will it prosper? Won’t he pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, that it may wither, that all its fresh springing leaves may wither? It can’t be raised from its roots by a strong arm or many people.
10Yes, behold, being planted, will it prosper? Won’t it utterly wither when the east wind touches it? It will wither in the ground where it grew.”’”
11Moreover the LORD’s word came to me, saying,
12“Say now to the rebellious house, ‘Don’t you know what these things mean?’ Tell them, ‘Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took its king, and its princes, and brought them to him to Babylon.
13He took one of the royal offspring, and made a covenant with him. He also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land,
14that the kingdom might be brought low, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping his covenant it might stand.
15But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and many people. Will he prosper? Will he who does such things escape? Will he break the covenant, and still escape?
16“‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘surely in the place where the king dwells who made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he broke, even with him in the middle of Babylon he will die.
17Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company won’t help him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build forts to cut off many persons.
18For he has despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet has done all these things. He won’t escape.
19“Therefore the Lord GOD says: ‘As I live, I will surely bring on his own head my oath that he has despised and my covenant that he has broken.
20I will spread my net on him, and he will be taken in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon, and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against me.
21All his fugitives in all his bands will fall by the sword, and those who remain will be scattered toward every wind. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken it.’
22“The Lord GOD says: ‘I will also take some of the lofty top of the cedar, and will plant it. I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.
23I will plant it in the mountain of the height of Israel; and it will produce boughs, and bear fruit, and be a good cedar. Birds of every kind will dwell in the shade of its branches.
24All the trees of the field will know that I, the LORD, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree flourish. “‘I, the LORD, have spoken and have done it.’”
