1La parola dell’Eterno mi fu ancora rivolta in questi termini:
2“Figliuol d’uomo, fa’ conoscere a Gerusalemme le sue abominazioni,
3e di’: Così parla il Signore, l’Eterno, a Gerusalemme: Per la tua origine e per la tua nascita sei del paese del Cananeo; tuo padre era un Amoreo, tua madre una Hittea.
4Quanto alla tua nascita, il giorno che nascesti l’ombelico non ti fu tagliato, non fosti lavata con acqua per nettarti, non fosti sfregata con sale, né fosti fasciata.
5Nessuno ebbe sguardi di pietà per te; per farti una sola di queste cose, avendo compassione di te, ma fosti gettata nell’aperta campagna il giorno che nascesti, pel disprezzo che si aveva di te.
6E io ti passai accanto, vidi che ti dibattevi nel sangue, e ti dissi: Vivi, tu che sei nel sangue! E ti ripetei: Vivi, tu che sei nel sangue!
7Io ti farò moltiplicare per miriadi, come il germe dei campi. E tu ti sviluppasti, crescesti, giungesti al colmo della bellezza, il tuo seno si formò, la tua capigliatura crebbe abbondante, ma tu eri nuda e scoperta.
8Io ti passai accanto, ti guardai, ed ecco il tuo tempo era giunto: il tempo degli amori; io stesi su di te il lembo della mia veste e copersi la tua nudità; ti feci un giuramento, fermai un patto con te, dice il Signore, l’Eterno, e tu fosti mia.
9Ti lavai con acqua, ti ripulii del sangue che avevi addosso, e ti unsi con olio.
10Ti misi delle vesti ricamate, de’ calzari di pelle di tasso, ti cinsi il capo di lino fino, ti ricopersi di seta.
11Ti fornii d’ornamenti, ti misi dei braccialetti ai polsi, e una collana al collo.
12Ti misi un anello al naso, dei pendenti agli orecchi, e una magnifica corona in capo.
13Così fosti adorna d’oro e d’argento, e fosti vestita di lino fino, di seta e di ricami; e tu mangiasti fior di farina, miele e olio; diventasti sommamente bella, e giungesti fino a regnare.
14E la tua fama si sparse fra le nazioni, per la tua bellezza; poich’essa era perfetta, avendoti io coperta della mia magnificenza, dice il Signore, l’Eterno.
15Ma tu confidasti nella tua bellezza, e ti prostituisti in grazie della tua fama, e prodigasti le tue prostituzioni ad ogni passante, a chi voleva.
16Tu prendesti delle tue vesti, ti facesti degli alti luoghi parati di vari colori, e quivi ti prostituisti: cose tali, che non ne avvennero mai, e non ne avverranno più.
17Prendesti pure i tuoi bei gioielli fatti del mio oro e del mio argento, che io t’avevo dati, te ne facesti delle immagini d’uomo, e ad esse ti prostituisti;
18e prendeste le tue vesti ricamate e ne ricopristi quelle immagini, dinanzi alle quali tu ponesti il mio olio e il mio profumo.
19Parimenti il mio pane che t’avevo dato, il fior di farina, l’olio e il miele con cui ti nutrivo, tu li ponesti davanti a loro, come un profumo di soave odore. Questo si fece! dice il Signore, l’Eterno.
20Prendesti inoltre i tuoi figliuoli e le tue figliuole che mi avevi partoriti, e li offristi loro in sacrificio, perché li divorassero. Non bastavan esse le tue prostituzioni,
21perché tu avessi anche a scannare i miei figliuoli, e a darli loro facendoli passare per il fuoco?
22E in mezzo a tutte le tue abominazioni e alle tue prostituzioni, non ti sei ricordata de’ giorni della tua giovinezza, quand’eri nuda, scoperta, e ti dibattevi nel sangue.
23Ora dopo tutta la tua malvagità guai! guai a te! dice il Signore, l’Eterno,
24ti sei costruita un bordello, e ti sei fatto un alto luogo in ogni piazza pubblica:
25hai costruito un alto luogo a ogni capo di strada, hai reso abominevole la tua bellezza, ti sei offerta ad ogni passante, ed hai moltiplicato le tue prostituzioni.
26Ti sei pure prostituita agli Egiziani, tuoi vicini dalle membra vigorose, e hai moltiplicato le tue prostituzioni per provocarmi ad ira.
27Perciò, ecco, io ho steso la mia mano contro di te, ho diminuito la provvisione che ti avevo fissata, e t’ho abbandonata in balìa delle figliuole dei Filistei, che t’odiano e hanno vergogna della tua condotta scellerata.
28Non sazia ancora, ti sei pure prostituita agli Assiri; ti sei prostituita a loro; e neppure allora sei stata sazia;
29e hai moltiplicato le tue prostituzioni col paese di Canaan fino in Caldea, e neppure con questo sei stata sazia.
30Com’è vile il tuo cuore, dice il Signore, l’Eterno, a ridurti a fare tutte queste cose, da sfacciata prostituta!
31Quando ti costruivi il bordello a ogni capo di strada e ti facevi gli alti luoghi in ogni piazza pubblica, tu non eri come una prostituta, giacché sprezzavi il salario,
32ma come una donna adultera, che riceve gli stranieri invece del suo marito.
33A tutte le prostitute si dànno dei regali: ma tu hai fatto de’ regali a tutti i tuoi amanti, e li hai sedotti con de’ doni, perché venissero da te, da tutte le parti, per le tue prostituzioni.
34Con te, nelle tue prostituzioni, è avvenuto il contrario delle altre donne; giacché non eri tu la sollecitata; in quanto tu pagavi, invece d’esser pagata, facevi il contrario delle altre.
35Perciò, o prostituta, ascolta la parola dell’Eterno.
36Così parla il Signore, l’Eterno: Poiché il tuo denaro è stato dissipato e la tua nudità è stata scoperta nelle tue prostituzioni coi tuoi amanti, e a motivi di tutti i tuoi idoli abominevoli, e a cagione del sangue dei tuoi figliuoli che hai dato loro,
37ecco, io radunerò tutti i tuoi amanti ai quali ti sei resa gradita, e tutti quelli che hai amati insieme a quelli che hai odiati; li radunerò da tutte le parti contro di te, e scoprirò davanti a loro la tua nudità, ed essi vedranno tutta la tua nudità.
38Io ti giudicherò alla stregua delle donne che commettono adulterio e spandono il sangue, e farò che il tuo sangue sia sparso dal furore e dalla gelosia.
39E ti darò nelle loro mani, ed essi abbatteranno il tuo bordello, distruggeranno i tuoi alti luoghi, ti spoglieranno delle tue vesti, ti prenderanno i bei gioielli, e ti lasceranno nuda e scoperta;
40e faranno salire contro di te una folla, e ti lapideranno e ti trafiggeranno con le loro spade;
41daranno alle fiamme le tue case, faranno giustizia di te nel cospetto di molte donne, e io ti farò cessare dal far la prostituta, e tu non pagherai più nessuno.
42Così io sfogherò il mio furore su di te, e la mia gelosia di stornerà da te; m’acqueterò, e non sarò più adirato.
43Poiché tu non ti sei ricordata dei giorni della tua giovinezza e m’hai provocato ad ira con tutte queste cose, ecco, anch’io ti farò ricadere sul capo la tua condotta, dice il Signore, l’Eterno, e tu non aggiungerai altri delitti a tutte le tue abominazioni.
44Ecco, tutti quelli che usano proverbi faranno di te un proverbio, e diranno: Quale la madre, tale la figlia.
45Tu sei figliuola di tua madre, ch’ebbe a sdegno il suo marito e i suoi figliuoli, e sei sorella delle tue sorelle, ch’ebbero a sdegno i loro mariti e i loro figliuoli. Vostra madre era una Hittea, e vostro padre un Amoreo.
46La tua sorella maggiore, che ti sta a sinistra, è Samaria, con le sue figliuole; e la tua sorella minore, che ti sta a destra, è Sodoma, con le sue figliuole.
47E tu, non soltanto hai camminato nelle loro vie e commesso le stesse loro abominazioni; era troppo poco; ma in tutte le tue vie ti sei corrotta più di loro.
48Com’è vero ch’io vivo, dice il Signore, l’Eterno, Sodoma, la tua sorella, e le sue figliuole, non hanno fatto quel che avete fatto tu e le figliuole tue.
49Ecco, questa fu l’iniquità di Sodoma, tua sorella: lei e le sue figliuole vivevano nell’orgoglio, nell’abbondanza del pane, e nell’ozio indolente; ma non sostenevano la mano dell’afflitto e del povero.
50Erano altezzose, e commettevano abominazioni nel mio cospetto; perciò le feci sparire, quando vidi ciò.
51E Samaria non ha commesso la metà de’ tuoi peccati; tu hai moltiplicato le tue abominazioni più che l’una e l’altra, e hai giustificato le tue sorelle, con tutte le abominazioni che hai commesse.
52Anche tu porta il vituperio che hai inflitto alle tue sorelle! Coi tuoi peccati tu ti sei resa più abominevole di loro, ed esse son più giuste di te; tu pure dunque, vergognati e porta il tuo vituperio, poiché tu hai giustificato le tue sorelle!
53Io farò tornare dalla cattività quelli che là si trovano di Sodoma e delle sue figliuole, quelli di Samaria e delle sue figliuole e quelli de’ tuoi che sono in mezzo ad essi,
54affinché tu porti il tuo vituperio, che tu senta l’onta di tutto quello che hai fatto, e sii così loro di conforto.
55La tua sorella Sodoma e le sue figliuole torneranno nella loro condizione di prima, Samaria e le sue figliuole torneranno nella loro condizione di prima, e tu e le tue figliuole tornerete nella vostra condizione di prima.
56Sodoma, la tua sorella, non era neppur mentovata dalla tua bocca, ne’ giorni della tua superbia,
57prima che la tua malvagità fosse messa a nudo, come avvenne quando fosti oltraggiata dalla figliuole della Siria e da tutti i paesi circonvicini, dalle figliuole dei Filistei, che t’insultavano da tutte le parti.
58Tu porti alla tua volta il peso della tua scelleratezza e delle tue abominazioni, dice l’Eterno.
59Poiché, così parla il Signore, l’Eterno: Io farò a te come hai fatto tu, che hai sprezzato il giuramento, infrangendo il patto.
60Nondimeno io mi ricorderò del patto che fermai teco nei giorni della tua giovinezza, e stabilirò per te un patto eterno.
61E tu ti ricorderai della tua condotta, e ne avrai vergogna, quando riceverai le tue sorelle, quelle che son più grandi e quelle che son più piccole di te, e io te le darò per figliuole, ma non in virtù del tuo patto.
62E io fermerò il mio patto con te, e tu conoscerai che io sono l’Eterno,
63affinché tu ricordi, e tu arrossisca, e tu non possa più aprir bocca dalla vergogna, quand’io t’avrò perdonato tutto quello che hai fatto, dice il Signore, l’Eterno”.

1Y FUÉ á mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:
2Hijo del hombre, notifica á Jerusalem sus abominaciones,
3Y di: Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová sobre Jerusalem: Tu habitación y tu raza fué de la tierra de Canaán; tu padre Amorrheo, y tu madre Hethea.
4Y cuanto á tu nacimiento, el día que naciste no fué cortado tu ombligo, ni fuiste lavada con aguas para atemperarte, ni salada con sal, ni fuiste envuelta con fajas.
5No hubo ojo que se compadeciese de ti, para hacerte algo de esto, teniendo de ti misericordia; sino que fuiste echada sobre la haz del campo, con menosprecio de tu vida, en el día que naciste.
6Y yo pasé junto á ti, y te vi sucia en tus sangres, y díjete: En tus sangres, vive; vive, díjete, en tus sangres.
7En millares como la hierba del campo te puse, y fuiste aumentada y engrandecida, y viniste á ser adornada grandemente; los pechos te crecieron, y tu pelo brotó; mas tú estabas desnuda y descubierta.
8Y pasé yo junto á ti, y te miré, y he aquí que tu tiempo era tiempo de amores; y extendí mi manto sobre ti, y cubrí tu desnudez; y díte juramento, y entré en concierto contigo, dice el Señor Jehová, y fuiste mía:
9Y te lavé con agua, y lavé tus sangres de encima de ti, y ungíte con aceite;
10Y te vestí de bordado, y te calcé de tejón, y ceñíte de lino, y te vestí de seda.
11Y te atavíe con ornamentos, y puse ajorcas en tus brazos, y collar á tu cuello;
12Y puse joyas sobre tus narices, y zarcillos en tus orejas, y diadema de hermosura en tu cabeza.
13Y fuiste adornada de oro y de plata, y tu vestido fué lino, y seda, y bordado; comiste flor de harina de trigo, y miel, y aceite; y fuiste hermoseada en extremo, y has prosperado hasta reinar.
14Y salióte nombradía entre las gentes á causa de tu hermosura; porque era perfecta, á causa de mi hermosura que yo puse sobre ti, dice el Señor Jehová.
15Mas confiaste en tu hermosura, y fornicaste á causa de tu nombradía, y derramaste tus fornicaciones á cuantos pasaron; suya eras.
16Y tomaste de tus vestidos, é hicístete diversos altos lugares, y fornicaste en ellos: cosa semejante no vendrá, ni será así.
17Tomaste asimismo los vasos de tu hermosura de mi oro y de mi plata, que yo te había dado, é hicístete imágenes de hombre, y fornicaste con ellas.
18Y tomaste tus vestidos de diversos colores, y cubrístelas; y mi aceite y mi perfume pusiste delante de ellas.
19Mi pan también, que yo te había dado, la flor de la harina, y el aceite, y la miel, con que yo te mantuve, pusiste delante de ellas para olor suave; y fué así, dice el Señor Jehová.
20Demás de esto, tomaste tus hijos y tus hijas que me habías engendrado, y los sacrificaste á ellas para consumación. ¿Es poco, esto de tus fornicaciones?
21Y sacrificaste mis hijos, y dístelos á ellas para que los hiciesen pasar por el fuego.
22Y con todas tus abominaciones y tus fornicaciones no te has acordado de los días de tu mocedad, cuando estabas desnuda y descubierta, cuando estabas envuelta en tu sangre.
23Y fué que después de toda tu maldad (¡ay, ay de ti! dice el Señor Jehová,)
24Edificástete alto, y te hiciste altar en todas las plazas:
25En toda cabeza de camino edificaste tu altar, y tornaste abominable tu hermosura, y abriste tus piernas á cuantos pasaban, y multiplicaste tus fornicaciones.
26Y fornicaste con los hijos de Egipto, tus vecinos, de grandes carnes; y aumentaste tus fornicaciones para enojarme.
27Por tanto, he aquí que yo extendí sobre ti mi mano, y disminuí tu provisión ordinaria, y te entregué á la voluntad de las hijas de los Filisteos que te aborrecen, las cuales se avergüenzan de tu camino deshonesto.
28Fornicaste también con los hijos de Assur por no haberte hartado; y fornicaste con ellos, y tampoco te hartaste.
29Multiplicaste asimismo tu fornicación en la tierra de Canaán y de los Caldeos: ni tampoco con esto te hartaste.
30¡Cuán inconstante es tu corazón, dice el Señor Jehová, habiendo hecho todas estas cosas, obras de una poderosa ramera,
31Edificando tus altares en cabeza de todo camino, y haciendo tus altares en todas las plazas! Y no fuiste semejante á ramera, menospreciando el salario,
32Sino como mujer adúltera, por cuanto que en lugar de su marido recibe á ajenos.
33A todas las rameras dan dones; mas tú diste tus dones á todos tus enamorados; y les diste presentes, porque entrasen á ti de todas partes por tus fornicaciones.
34Y ha sido en ti al contrario de las mujeres en tus fornicaciones, ni nunca después de ti será así fornicado; porque en dar tú dones, y no ser dados dones á ti, ha sido al contrario.
35Por tanto, ramera, oye palabra de Jehová:
36Así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: Por cuanto han sido descubiertas tus vergüenzas, y tu confusión ha sido manifestada á tus enamorados en tus fornicaciones, y á los ídolos de tus abominaciones, y en la sangre de tus hijos, los cuales les diste;
37Por tanto, he aquí que yo junto todos tus enamorados con los cuales tomaste placer, y todos los que amaste, con todos los que aborreciste; y reunirélos contra ti alrededor, y descubriréles tu vergüenza, y verán toda tu torpeza.
38Y yo te juzgaré por las leyes de las adúlteras, y de las que derraman sangre; y te daré en sangre de ira y de celo.
39Y te entregaré en mano de ellos: y destruirán tu alto, y derribarán tus altares, y te harán desnudar de tus ropas, y se llevarán los vasos de tu gloria, y te dejarán desnuda y descubierta.
40Y harán subir contra ti reunión de gente, y te apedrearán con piedras, y te atravesarán con sus espadas.
41Y quemarán tus casas á fuego, y harán en ti juicios á ojos de muchas mujeres; y hacerte he cesar de ser ramera, ni tampoco darás más don.
42Y haré reposar mi ira sobre ti, y apartaráse de ti mi celo, y descansaré de más enojarme.
43Por cuanto no te acordaste de los días de tu mocedad, y me provocaste á ira en todo esto, por eso, he aquí yo también he tornado tu camino sobre tu cabeza, dice el Señor Jehová; pues ni aun has pensado sobre todas tus abominaciones.
44He aquí que todo proverbista hará de ti proverbio, diciendo: Como la madre, tal su hija.
45Hija de tu madre eres tú, que desechó á su marido y á sus hijos; y hermana de tus hermanas eres tú, que desecharon á sus maridos y á sus hijos: vuestra madre fué Hethea, y vuestro padre Amorrheo.
46Y tu hermana mayor es Samaria con su hijas, la cual habita á tu mano izquierda; y tu hermana la menor que tú es Sodoma con sus hijas, la cual habita á tu mano derecha.
47Y aun no anduviste en sus caminos, ni hiciste según sus abominaciones; antes, como si esto fuera poco y muy poco, te corrompiste más que ellas en todos tus caminos.
48Vivo yo, dice el Señor Jehová, Sodoma tu hermana, con sus hijas, no ha hecho como hiciste tú y tus hijas.
49He aquí que esta fué la maldad de Sodoma tu hermana: soberbia, hartura de pan, y abundancia de ociosidad tuvo ella y sus hijas; y no corroboró la mano del afligido y del menesteroso.
50Y ensoberbeciéronse, é hicieron abominación delante de mí, y quitélas como vi bueno.
51Y Samaria no cometió ni la mitad de tus pecados; porque tú multiplicaste tus abominaciones más que ellas, y has justificado á tus hermanas con todas tus abominaciones que hiciste.
52Tú también, que juzgaste á tus hermanas, lleva tu vergüenza en tus pecados que hiciste más abominables que ellas: más justas son que tú: avergüénzate pues tú también, y lleva tu confusión, pues que has justificado á tus hermanas.
53Yo pues haré tornar sus cautivos, los cautivos de Sodoma y de sus hijas, y los cautivos de Samaria y de sus hijas, y los cautivos de tus cautiverios entre ellas,
54Para que tú lleves tu confusión, y te avergüences de todo lo que has hecho, siéndoles tú motivo de consuelo.
55Y tus hermanas, Sodoma con sus hijas y Samaria con sus hijas, volverán á su primer estado; tú también y tus hijas volveréis á vuestro primer estado.
56Sodoma, tu hermana, no fué nombrada en tu boca en el tiempo de tus soberbias,
57Antes que tu maldad se descubriese, como en el tiempo de la vergüenza de las hijas de Siria y de todas las hijas de los Filisteos alrededor, que te menosprecian en contorno.
58Tú has llevado tu enormidad y tus abominaciones, dice Jehová.
59Empero así ha dicho el Señor Jehová: ¿Haré yo contigo como tú hiciste, que menospreciaste el juramento para invalidar el pacto?
60Antes yo tendré memoria de mi pacto que concerté contigo en los días de tu mocedad, y te confirmaré un pacto sempiterno.
61Y acordarte has de tus caminos y te avergonzarás, cuando recibirás á tus hermanas, las mayores que tú con las menores que tú, las cuales yo te daré por hijas, mas no por tu pacto.
62Y confirmaré mi pacto contigo, y sabrás que yo soy Jehová;
63Para que te acuerdes, y te avergüences, y nunca más abras la boca á causa de tu vergüenza, cuando me aplacare para contigo de todo lo que hiciste, dice el Señor Jehová.

1Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,
3And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.
4And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.
5None eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the lothing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born.
6And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live.
7I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare.
8Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.
9Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil.
10I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers’ skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk.
11I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck.
12And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head.
13Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.
14And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.
15But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.
16And of thy garments thou didst take, and deckedst thy high places with divers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so.
17Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images of men, and didst commit whoredom with them,
18And tookest thy broidered garments, and coveredst them: and thou hast set mine oil and mine incense before them.
19My meat also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou hast even set it before them for a sweet savour: and thus it was, saith the Lord GOD.
20Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Is this of thy whoredoms a small matter,
21That thou hast slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them?
22And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood.
23And it came to pass after all thy wickedness, (woe, woe unto thee! saith the Lord GOD;)
24That thou hast also built unto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee an high place in every street.
25Thou hast built thy high place at every head of the way, and hast made thy beauty to be abhorred, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredoms.
26Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and hast increased thy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger.
27Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of thy lewd way.
28Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied.
29Thou hast moreover multiplied thy fornication in the land of Canaan unto Chaldea; and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith.
30How weak is thine heart, saith the Lord GOD, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman;
31In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thine high place in every street; and hast not been as an harlot, in that thou scornest hire;
32But as a wife that committeth adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband!
33They give gifts to all whores: but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredom.
34And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary.
35Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD:
36Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didst give unto them;
37Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.
38And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy.
39And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare.
40They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords.
41And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou also shalt give no hire any more.
42So will I make my fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry.
43Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast fretted me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will recompense thy way upon thine head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not commit this lewdness above all thine abominations.
44Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter.
45Thou art thy mother’s daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, which lothed their husbands and their children: your mother was an Hittite, and your father an Amorite.
46And thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.
47Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as if that were a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways.
48As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.
49Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
50And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
51Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done.
52Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters.
53When I shall bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then will I bring again the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them:
54That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them.
55When thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate.
56For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride,
57Before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of thy reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which despise thee round about.
58Thou hast borne thy lewdness and thine abominations, saith the LORD.
59For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even deal with thee as thou hast done, which hast despised the oath in breaking the covenant.
60Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant.
61Then thou shalt remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder and thy younger: and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant.
62And I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD:
63That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.

1Again the LORD’s word came to me, saying,
2“Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations;
3and say, ‘The Lord GOD says to Jerusalem: “Your origin and your birth is of the land of the Canaanite. An Amorite was your father, and your mother was a Hittite.
4As for your birth, in the day you were born your navel was not cut. You weren’t washed in water to cleanse you. You weren’t salted at all, nor wrapped in blankets at all.
5No eye pitied you, to do any of these things to you, to have compassion on you; but you were cast out in the open field, because you were abhorred in the day that you were born.
6“‘“When I passed by you, and saw you wallowing in your blood, I said to you, ‘Though you are in your blood, live!’ Yes, I said to you, ‘Though you are in your blood, live!’
7I caused you to multiply as that which grows in the field, and you increased and grew great, and you attained to excellent beauty. Your breasts were formed, and your hair grew; yet you were naked and bare.
8“‘“Now when I passed by you, and looked at you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread my garment over you and covered your nakedness. Yes, I pledged myself to you and entered into a covenant with you,” says the Lord GOD, “and you became mine.
9“‘“Then I washed you with water. Yes, I thoroughly washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil.
10I clothed you also with embroidered work and put leather sandals on you. I dressed you with fine linen and covered you with silk.
11I decked you with ornaments, put bracelets on your hands, and put a chain on your neck.
12I put a ring on your nose, earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head.
13Thus you were decked with gold and silver. Your clothing was of fine linen, silk, and embroidered work. You ate fine flour, honey, and oil. You were exceedingly beautiful, and you prospered to royal estate.
14Your renown went out among the nations for your beauty; for it was perfect, through my majesty which I had put on you,” says the Lord GOD.
15“‘“But you trusted in your beauty, and played the prostitute because of your renown, and poured out your prostitution on everyone who passed by. It was his.
16You took some of your garments, and made for yourselves high places decked with various colors, and played the prostitute on them. This shouldn’t happen, neither shall it be.
17You also took your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself images of men, and played the prostitute with them.
18You took your embroidered garments, covered them, and set my oil and my incense before them.
19My bread also which I gave you, fine flour, oil, and honey, with which I fed you, you even set it before them for a pleasant aroma; and so it was,” says the Lord GOD.
20“‘“Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to me, and you have sacrificed these to them to be devoured. Was your prostitution a small matter,
21that you have slain my children and delivered them up, in causing them to pass through the fire to them?
22In all your abominations and your prostitution you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and were wallowing in your blood.
23“‘“It has happened after all your wickedness—woe, woe to you!” says the Lord GOD—
24“that you have built for yourselves a vaulted place, and have made yourselves a lofty place in every street.
25You have built your lofty place at the head of every way, and have made your beauty an abomination, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and multiplied your prostitution.
26You have also committed sexual immorality with the Egyptians, your neighbors, great of flesh; and have multiplied your prostitution, to provoke me to anger.
27See therefore, I have stretched out my hand over you, and have diminished your portion, and delivered you to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your lewd way.
28You have played the prostitute also with the Assyrians, because you were insatiable; yes, you have played the prostitute with them, and yet you weren’t satisfied.
29You have moreover multiplied your prostitution to the land of merchants, to Chaldea; and yet you weren’t satisfied with this.
30“‘“How weak is your heart,” says the Lord GOD, “since you do all these things, the work of an impudent prostitute;
31in that you build your vaulted place at the head of every way, and make your lofty place in every street, and have not been as a prostitute, in that you scorn pay.
32“‘“Adulterous wife, who takes strangers instead of her husband!
33People give gifts to all prostitutes; but you give your gifts to all your lovers, and bribe them, that they may come to you on every side for your prostitution.
34You are different from other women in your prostitution, in that no one follows you to play the prostitute; and whereas you give hire, and no hire is given to you, therefore you are different.”’
35“Therefore, prostitute, hear the LORD’s word:
36‘The Lord GOD says, “Because your filthiness was poured out, and your nakedness uncovered through your prostitution with your lovers; and because of all the idols of your abominations, and for the blood of your children, that you gave to them;
37therefore see, I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all those whom you have loved, with all those whom you have hated. I will even gather them against you on every side, and will uncover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness.
38I will judge you as women who break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring on you the blood of wrath and jealousy.
39I will also give you into their hand, and they will throw down your vaulted place, and break down your lofty places. They will strip you of your clothes and take your beautiful jewels. They will leave you naked and bare.

45You are the daughter of your mother, who loathes her husband and her children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite.
46Your elder sister is Samaria, who dwells at your left hand, she and her daughters; and your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sodom with her daughters.
47Yet you have not walked in their ways, nor done their abominations; but soon you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.
48As I live,” says the Lord GOD, “Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters.
49“‘“Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters. She also didn’t strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
50They were arrogant and committed abomination before me. Therefore I took them away when I saw it.
51Samaria hasn’t committed half of your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters by all your abominations which you have done.
52You also bear your own shame yourself, in that you have given judgment for your sisters; through your sins that you have committed more abominable than they, they are more righteous than you. Yes, be also confounded, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters.
53“‘“I will reverse their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of your captives among them;
54that you may bear your own shame, and may be ashamed because of all that you have done, in that you are a comfort to them.
55Your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, will return to their former estate; and Samaria and her daughters will return to their former estate; and you and your daughters will return to your former estate.
56For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride,
57before your wickedness was uncovered, as at the time of the reproach of the daughters of Syria, and of all who are around her, the daughters of the Philistines, who despise you all around.
58You have borne your lewdness and your abominations,” says the LORD.
59“‘For the Lord GOD says: “I will also deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant.
60Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you.
61Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters, your elder sisters and your younger; and I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant.
62I will establish my covenant with you. Then you will know that I am the LORD;
63that you may remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I have forgiven you all that you have done,” says the Lord GOD.’”
