1Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Gehe hin, ziehe von dannen, du und das Volk, das du aus Ägypten geführt hast, in das Land, das ich Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geschworen und von dem ich gesagt habe: Deinem Samen will ich es geben!
2Ich aber will einen Engel vor dir hersenden und die Kanaaniter, Amoriter, Hetiter, Pheresiter, Heviter und Jebusiter ausstoßen
3in das Land, das von Milch und Honig fließt; denn ich will nicht mit dir hinaufziehen, weil du ein halsstarriges Volk bist; ich würde dich sonst unterwegs verzehren.
4Als das Volk diese harte Rede hörte, trug es Leid, und niemand legte seinen Schmuck an.
5Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Sage den Kindern Israel: Ihr seid ein halsstarriges Volk! Wenn ich nur einen Augenblick in deiner Mitte hinaufzöge, müßte ich dich vertilgen. Und nun lege deinen Schmuck von dir, so will ich sehen, was ich dir tun will!
6Da rissen die Kinder Israel ihren Schmuck von sich ab beim Berge Horeb.
7Mose aber nahm die Hütte und schlug sie draußen auf, ferne von dem Lager, und hieß sie eine Hütte der Zusammenkunft. Und wer den HERRN fragen wollte, mußte vor das Lager hinaus zur Hütte der Zusammenkunft gehen.
8Und wenn Mose zu der Hütte hinausging, so stand alles Volk auf, und jedermann blieb stehen unter der Tür seines Zeltes und sah Mose nach, bis er in die Hütte hineinging.
9Und wenn Mose in die Hütte hineinging, so kam die Wolkensäule herab und stand in der Tür der Hütte, und der HERR redete mit Mose.
10Und wenn alles Volk die Wolkensäule in der Tür stehen sah, so standen sie alle auf und verneigten sich, ein jeder in der Tür seines Zeltes.
11Der HERR aber redete mit Mose von Angesicht zu Angesicht, wie ein Mann mit seinem Freunde redet; und wenn er wieder ins Lager zurückkehrte, so wich sein Diener Josua, der Sohn Nuns, der Jüngling, nicht aus der Hütte.
12Und Mose sprach zum HERRN: Siehe, du sprichst zu mir: Führe das Volk hinauf; und du lässest mich nicht wissen, wen du mit mir senden willst, und doch hast du gesagt: Ich kenne dich mit Namen, und du hast Gnade vor meinen Augen gefunden.
13Habe ich nun vor deinen Augen Gnade gefunden, so laß mich doch deinen Weg wissen und dich erkennen, damit ich vor deinen Augen Gnade finde; und siehe doch das an, daß dieses Volk dein Volk ist!
14Er sprach: Soll ich selbst gehen und dich zur Ruhe führen?
15Er sprach zu ihm: Wenn du nicht selbst mitgehst, so führe uns nicht von hier hinauf!
16Denn woran soll doch erkannt werden, daß ich und dein Volk vor deinen Augen Gnade gefunden haben, als daran, daß du mit uns gehst, so daß ich und dein Volk ausgezeichnet werden vor allem Volk, das auf dem Erdboden ist?
17Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Was du jetzt gesagt hast, das will ich auch tun; denn du hast vor meinen Augen Gnade gefunden, und ich kenne dich mit Namen!
18Er aber sprach: So laß mich deine Herrlichkeit sehen!
19Und er sprach: Ich will vor deinem Angesicht alle meine Güte vorüberziehen lassen und will den Namen des HERRN vor dir ausrufen; und wem ich gnädig bin, dem bin ich gnädig, und wessen ich mich erbarme, dessen erbarme ich mich;
20aber mein Angesicht (sprach er) kannst du nicht sehen, denn kein Mensch wird leben, der mich sieht!
21Doch sprach der HERR: Siehe, es ist ein Ort bei mir, da sollst du auf dem Felsen stehen.
22Wenn dann meine Herrlichkeit vorübergeht, so stelle ich dich in die Felsenkluft und will dich mit meiner Hand solange decken, bis ich vorübergegangen bin.
23Wenn ich dann meine Hand zurückziehe, so magst du mir hinten nachsehen; aber mein Angesicht soll man nicht sehen!

1Y JEHOVÁ dijo á Moisés: Ve, sube de aquí, tú y el pueblo que sacaste de la tierra de Egipto, á la tierra de la cual juré á Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob, diciendo: A tu simiente la daré:
2Y yo enviaré delante de ti el ángel, y echaré fuera al Cananeo y al Amorrheo, y al Hetheo, y al Pherezeo, y al Heveo y al Jebuseo:
3(A la tierra que fluye leche y miel); porque yo no subiré en medio de ti, porque eres pueblo de dura cerviz, no sea que te consuma en el camino.
4Y oyendo el pueblo esta sensible palabra, vistieron luto, y ninguno se puso sus atavíos:
5Pues Jehová dijo á Moisés: Di á los hijos de Israel: Vosotros sois pueblo de dura cerviz: en un momento subiré en medio de ti, y te consumiré: quítate pues ahora tus atavíos, que yo sabré lo que te tengo de hacer.
6Entonces los hijos de Israel se despojaron de sus atavíos desde el monte Horeb.
7Y Moisés tomó el tabernáculo, y extendiólo fuera del campo, lejos del campo, y llamólo el Tabernáculo del Testimonio. Y fué, que cualquiera que requería á Jehová, salía al tabernáculo del testimonio, que estaba fuera del campo.
8Y sucedía que, cuando salía Moisés al tabernáculo, todo el pueblo se levantaba, y estaba cada cual en pie á la puerta de su tienda, y miraban en pos de Moisés, hasta que él entraba en el tabernáculo.
9Y cuando Moisés entraba en el tabernáculo, la columna de nube descendía, y poníase á la puerta del tabernáculo, y Jehová hablaba con Moisés.
10Y viendo todo el pueblo la columna de la nube, que estaba á la puerta del tabernáculo, levantábase todo el pueblo, cada uno á la puerta de su tienda, y adoraba.
11Y hablaba Jehová á Moisés cara á cara, como habla cualquiera á su compañero. Y volvíase al campo; mas el joven Josué, su criado, hijo de Nun, nunca se apartaba de en medio del tabernáculo.
12Y dijo Moisés á Jehová: Mira, tú me dices á mí: Saca este pueblo: y tú no me has declarado á quién has de enviar conmigo: sin embargo tú dices: Yo te he conocido por tu nombre, y has hallado también gracia en mis ojos.
13Ahora, pues, si he hallado gracia en tus ojos, ruégote que me muestres ahora tu camino, para que te conozca, porque halle gracia en tus ojos: y mira que tu pueblo es aquesta gente.
14Y él dijo: Mi rostro irá contigo, y te haré descansar.
15Y él respondió: Si tu rostro no ha de ir conmigo, no nos saques de aquí.
16¿Y en qué se conocerá aquí que he hallado gracia en tus ojos, yo y tu pueblo, sino en andar tú con nosotros, y que yo y tu pueblo seamos apartados de todos los pueblos que están sobre la faz de la tierra?
17Y Jehová dijo á Moisés: También haré esto que has dicho, por cuanto has hallado gracia en mis ojos, y te he conocido por tu nombre.
18El entonces dijo: Ruégote que me muestres tu gloria.
19Y respondióle: Yo haré pasar todo mi bien delante de tu rostro, y proclamaré el nombre de Jehová delante de ti; y tendré misericordia del que tendré misericordia, y seré clemente para con el que seré clemente.
20Dijo más: No podrás ver mi rostro: porque no me verá hombre, y vivirá.
21Y dijo aún Jehová: He aquí lugar junto á mí, y tú estarás sobre la peña:
22Y será que, cuando pasare mi gloria, yo te pondré en una hendidura de la peña, y te cubriré con mi mano hasta que haya pasado:
23Después apartaré mi mano, y verás mis espaldas; mas no se verá mi rostro.

1And the LORD said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:
2And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:
3Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.
4And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.
5For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.
6And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.
7And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that every one which sought the LORD went out unto the tabernacle of the congregation, which was without the camp.
8And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle.
9And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the LORD talked with Moses.
10And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.
11And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.
12And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
13Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.
14And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
15And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
16For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.
17And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.
18And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.
19And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
20And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
21And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:
22And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
23And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
World English Bible
1The LORD spoke to Moses, “Depart, go up from here, you and the people that you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’
2I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
3Go to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way.”
4When the people heard this evil news, they mourned; and no one put on his jewelry.
5The LORD had said to Moses, “Tell the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go up among you for one moment, I would consume you. Therefore now take off your jewelry from you, that I may know what to do to you.’”
6The children of Israel stripped themselves of their jewelry from Mount Horeb onward.
7Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp, and he called it “The Tent of Meeting.” Everyone who sought the LORD went out to the Tent of Meeting, which was outside the camp.
8When Moses went out to the Tent, all the people rose up, and stood, everyone at their tent door, and watched Moses, until he had gone into the Tent.
9When Moses entered into the Tent, the pillar of cloud descended, stood at the door of the Tent, and the LORD spoke with Moses.
10All the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent, and all the people rose up and worshiped, everyone at their tent door.
11The LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. He turned again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, didn’t depart from the Tent.
12Moses said to the LORD, “Behold, you tell me, ‘Bring up this people;’ and you haven’t let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’
13Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me your way, now, that I may know you, so that I may find favor in your sight; and consider that this nation is your people.”
14He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
15Moses said to him, “If your presence doesn’t go with me, don’t carry us up from here.
16For how would people know that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Isn’t it that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from all the people who are on the surface of the earth?”
17The LORD said to Moses, “I will do this thing also that you have spoken; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.”
18Moses said, “Please show me your glory.”
19He said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the LORD’s name before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.”
20He said, “You cannot see my face, for man may not see me and live.”
21The LORD also said, “Behold, there is a place by me, and you shall stand on the rock.
22It will happen, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with my hand until I have passed by;
23then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen.”
