Después de esto, es de saber que un varón de la familia de Leví fue y se casó con una mujer de su linaje;

UN varón de la familia de Leví fué, y tomó por mujer una hija de Leví:

And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

la cual concibió y parió un hijo, y viéndole muy lindo, le tuvo escondido por espacio de tres meses.

And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

Mas no pudiendo ya encubrirle, tomó una cestilla de juncos y la calafateó con betún y pez, y colocó dentro al infantillo, y le expuso en un carrizal de la orilla del río,

Pero no pudiendo ocultarle más tiempo, tomó una arquilla de juncos, y calafateóla con pez y betún, y colocó en ella al niño, y púsolo en un carrizal á la orilla del río:

And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.

When she could no longer hide him, she took a papyrus basket for him, and coated it with tar and with pitch. She put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.

quedándose a lo lejos una hermana suya, para ver el paradero.

Cuando he aquí que bajaba la hija del faraón a lavarse en el río, y sus damas se paseaban por la orilla del agua. Así que vio la cestilla en el carrizal, envió por ella a una de sus criadas; y habiéndosela traído,

And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it.

destapándola, y viendo dentro a un niño que daba tiernos vagidos, se compadeció de él, y dijo: De los niños de los hebreos es éste.

Y como la abrió, vió al niño; y he aquí que el niño lloraba. Y teniendo compasión de él, dijo: De los niños de los Hebreos es éste.

And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.

Y acercándose entonces la hermana del niño: ¿Quieres, le dijo, que yo vaya y te llame una mujer hebrea que pueda criar ese niño?

Entonces su hermana dijo á la hija de Faraón: ¿Iré á llamarte un ama de las Hebreas, para que te críe este niño?

Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”

Anda, respondió ella. Fue corriendo la muchacha, y llamó a su madre.

Y la hija de Faraón respondió: Ve. Entonces fué la doncella, y llamó á la madre del niño;

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.

A la cual dijo la hija del faraón: Toma este niño y críamelo, que yo te pagaré. Tomó la mujer el niño y lo crió. Y cuando fue ya crecido, le entregó a la hija del faraón,

And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.

que le adoptó por hijo, y le puso por nombre Moisés, como quien dice: Del agua le saqué.

Y como creció el niño, ella lo trajo á la hija de Faraón, la cual lo prohijó, y púsole por nombre Moisés, diciendo: Porque de las aguas lo saqué.

And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses: and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

Un día, cuando Moisés era ya grande, salió a ver a sus hermanos; y observó la aflicción en que estaban, y a un egipcio que maltrataba a uno de los hebreos sus hermanos.

Y en aquellos días acaeció que, crecido ya Moisés, salió á sus hermanos, y vió sus cargas: y observó á un Egipcio que hería á uno de los Hebreos, sus hermanos.

And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

In those days, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his brothers and saw their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

Y habiendo mirado hacia todas partes y no divisando a nadie, mató al egipcio, y le escondió en la arena.

Y miró á todas partes, y viendo que no parecía nadie, mató al Egipcio, y escondiólo en la arena.

And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

Saliendo al día siguiente, vio a dos hebreos que reñían; y dijo al que hacía la injuria: ¿Por qué maltratas a tu prójimo?

Y salió al día siguiente, y viendo á dos Hebreos que reñían, dijo al que hacía la injuria: ¿Por qué hieres á tu prójimo?

And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

He went out the second day, and behold, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with each other. He said to him who did the wrong, “Why do you strike your fellow?”

El hombre respondió: ¿Quién te ha constituido príncipe y juez sobre nosotros?, ¿quieres tú tal vez matarme como mataste ayer al egipcio? Temió Moisés, y dijo: ¿Cómo se habrá sabido esto?

Y él respondió: ¿Quién te ha puesto á ti por príncipe y juez sobre nosotros? ¿piensas matarme como mataste al Egipcio? Entonces Moisés tuvo miedo, y dijo: Ciertamente esta cosa es descubierta.

And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.

He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid, and said, “Surely this thing is known.”

Lo supo también el faraón, y trataba de hacer morir a Moisés; el cual huyendo de su vista, se fue a morar en tierra de Madián, y se puso a descansar junto a un pozo.

Y oyendo Faraón este negocio, procuró matar á Moisés: mas Moisés huyó de delante de Faraón, y habitó en la tierra de Madián; y sentóse junto á un pozo.

Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

A la sazón tenía el sacerdote de Madián siete hijas, las cuales vinieron a sacar agua; y llenadas las canales, querían dar de beber a los rebaños de su padre.

Sobrevinieron unos pastores, y las echaron. Pero saliendo Moisés en defensa de las doncellas, abrevó sus ovejas.

Así que volvieron a Ragüel, su padre les preguntó: ¿Por qué habéis venido hoy más presto de lo acostumbrado?

And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day?

Un hombre egipcio, respondieron ellas, nos ha defendido de la vejación de los pastores, y a más de eso, nos ha ayudado a sacar agua, y dado de beber a las ovejas.

Y ellas respondieron: Un varón Egipcio nos defendió de mano de los pastores, y también nos sacó el agua, y abrevó las ovejas.

And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.

They said, “An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and moreover he drew water for us, and watered the flock.”

¿En dónde está?, dijo el padre. ¿Por qué habéis dejado ir a ese hombre? Llamadle, a fin de que coma algo.

Y dijo á sus hijas: ¿Y dónde está? ¿por qué habéis dejado ese hombre? llamadle para que coma pan.

And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.

He said to his daughters, “Where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.”

Como resultado de eso, Moisés juró que se quedaría con él. Y recibió por mujer a su hija Séfora,

And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

la cual le parió un hijo a quien llamó Gersán, diciendo: He sido peregrino en tierra extraña. Parió después otro, a quien llamó Eliézer, diciendo: El Dios de mi padre, protector mío, me libró de las manos del faraón.

La cual le parió un hijo, y él le puso por nombre Gersom: porque dijo: Peregrino soy en tierra ajena.

And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.

She bore a son, and he named him Gershom, for he said, “I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land.”

De allí a mucho tiempo murió el rey de Egipto; y los hijos de Israel, gimiendo bajo el peso de las faenas, levantaron el grito al cielo; y el clamor en que les hacía prorrumpir el excesivo trabajo, subió hasta Dios.

Y aconteció que después de muchos días murió el rey de Egipto, y los hijos de Israel suspiraron á causa de la servidumbre, y clamaron: y subió á Dios el clamor de ellos con motivo de su servidumbre.

And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

In the course of those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God because of the bondage.

El cual oyó sus gemidos, y tuvo presente el pacto contraído con Abrahán, Isaac y Jacob ;

And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
