8Quel que soit l'objet du délit, boeuf, âne, menue bête, vêtement, toute chose perdue qu'on affirme être sienne, la contestation des deux parties sera déférée au tribunal: celui que les juges condamneront paiera le double à l'autre.

8If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods.

8If the thief isn’t found, then the master of the house shall come near to God, to find out whether or not he has put his hand on his neighbor’s goods.
