1Or ce sont ici les noms des enfants d’Israël, qui entrèrent en Egypte, chacun desquels y entra avec Jacob, et leur famille.
2Ruben, Siméon, Lévi, et Juda,
3Issachar, Zabulon, et Benjamin,
4Dan, et Nephtali, Gad, et Aser.
5Toutes les personnes issues de la hanche de Jacob, étaient soixante et dix, avec Joseph qui était en Egypte.
6Or Joseph mourut, et tous ses frères, et toute cette génération-là.
7Et les enfants d’Israël foisonnèrent, et crûrent en très-grande abondance, et multiplièrent, et devinrent très-puissants, tellement que le pays en fut rempli.
8Depuis il s’éleva un nouveau Roi sur l’Egypte, lequel n’avait point connu Joseph.
9Et il dit à son peuple : voici, le peuple des enfants d’Israël est plus grand et plus puissant que nous.
10Agissons donc prudemment avec lui, de peur qu’il ne se multiplie, et que s’il arrivait quelque guerre il ne se joignît à nos ennemis, et ne fît la guerre contre nous, et qu’il ne s’en allât du pays.
11Ils établirent donc sur le peuple des Commissaires d’impôts pour l’affliger en le surchargeant ; car le peuple bâtit des villes fortes à Pharaon, savoir Pithom et Rahamsès.
12Mais plus ils l’affligeaient, et plus il multipliait, et croissait en toute abondance : c’est pourquoi ils haïssaient les enfants d’Israël.
13Et les Egyptiens faisaient servir les enfants d’Israël avec rigueur :
14Tellement qu’ils leur rendirent la vie amère par une rude servitude, en les employant à faire du mortier, des briques, et toute sorte d’ouvrage qui se fait aux champs ; tout le service qu’on tirait d’eux était avec rigueur.
15Le Roi d’Egypte commanda aussi aux sages-femmes Hébreues, dont l’une avait nom Siphra, et l’autre avait nom Puha ;
16Et leur dit : quand vous recevrez les enfants des femmes des Hébreux, et que vous les verrez sur les siéges, si c’est un fils, mettez-le à mort ; mais si c’est une fille, qu’elle vive.
17Mais les sages-femmes craignirent Dieu, et ne firent pas ainsi que le Roi d’Egypte leur avait dit ; car elles laissèrent vivre les fils.
18Alors le Roi d’Egypte appela les sages-femmes, et leur dit : pourquoi avez- vous fait cela, d’avoir laissé vivre les fils ?
19Et les sages-femmes répondirent à Pharaon : parce que les Hébreues ne sont point comme les femmes Egyptiennes ; car elles sont vigoureuses, et elles ont accouché avant que la sage-femme soit arrivée chez elle.
20Et Dieu fit du bien aux sages-femmes, et le peuple multiplia, et devint très puissant.
21Et parce que les sages-femmes craignirent Dieu, il leur édifia des maisons.
22Alors Pharaon commanda à tout son peuple, disant : jetez dans le fleuve tous les fils qui naîtront, mais laissez vivre toutes les filles.

1ESTOS son los nombres de los hijos de Israel, que entraron en Egipto con Jacob; cada uno entró con su familia.
2Rubén, Simeón, Leví y Judá;
3Issachâr, Zabulón y Benjamín;
4Dan y Nephtalí, Gad y Aser.
5Y todas las almas de los que salieron del muslo de Jacob, fueron setenta. Y José estaba en Egipto.
6Y murió José, y todos sus hermanos, y toda aquella generación.
7Y los hijos de Israel crecieron, y multiplicaron, y fueron aumentados y corroborados en extremo; y llenóse la tierra de ellos.
8Levantóse entretanto un nuevo rey sobre Egipto, que no conocía á José; el cual dijo á su pueblo:
9He aquí, el pueblo de los hijos de Israel es mayor y más fuerte que nosotros:
10Ahora, pues, seamos sabios para con él, porque no se multiplique, y acontezca que viniendo guerra, él también se junte con nuestros enemigos, y pelee contra nosotros, y se vaya de la tierra.
11Entonces pusieron sobre él comisarios de tributos que los molestasen con sus cargas; y edificaron á Faraón las ciudades de los bastimentos, Phithom y Raamses.
12Empero cuanto más los oprimían, tanto más se multiplicaban y crecían: así que estaban ellos fastidiados de los hijos de Israel.
13Y los Egipcios hicieron servir á los hijos de Israel con dureza:
14Y amargaron su vida con dura servidumbre, en hacer barro y ladrillo, y en toda labor del campo, y en todo su servicio, al cual los obligaban con rigorismo.
15Y habló el rey de Egipto á las parteras de las Hebreas, una de las cuales se llamaba Siphra, y otra Phúa, y díjoles:
16Cuando parteareis á las Hebreas, y mirareis los asientos, si fuere hijo, matadlo; y si fuere hija, entonces viva.
17Mas las parteras temieron á Dios, y no hicieron como les mandó el rey de Egipto, sino que reservaban la vida á los niños.
18Y el rey de Egipto hizo llamar á las parteras, y díjoles: Por qué habéis hecho esto, que habéis reservado la vida á los niños?
19Y las parteras respondieron á Faraón: Porque las mujeres Hebreas no son como las Egipcias: porque son robustas, y paren antes que la partera venga á ellas.
20Y Dios hizo bien á las parteras: y el pueblo se multiplicó, y se corroboraron en gran manera.
21Y por haber las parteras temido á Dios, él les hizo casas.
22Entonces Faraón mandó á todo su pueblo, diciendo: Echad en el río todo hijo que naciere, y á toda hija reservad la vida.

1Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.
2Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,
3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,
4Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
5And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.
6And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
7And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
8Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.
9And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:
10Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.
11Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.
12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.
13And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:
14And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
15And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
16And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
17But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
18And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?
19And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.
20Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
21And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
22And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

10Come, let’s deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies and fight against us, and escape out of the land.”
11Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses.
12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They started to dread the children of Israel.
13The Egyptians ruthlessly made the children of Israel serve,
14and they made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and in brick, and in all kinds of service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve.
15The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah,
16and he said, “When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.”
17But the midwives feared God, and didn’t do what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the baby boys alive.
18The king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, “Why have you done this thing and saved the boys alive?”
19The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women aren’t like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.”
20God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty.
21Because the midwives feared God, he gave them families.
22Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “You shall cast every son who is born into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.”
