1Dies sind die Namen der Kinder Israels, die mit Jakob nach Agypten kamen; ein jeglicher kam mit seinem Hause hinein:
2Ruben, Simeon, Levi, Juda,
3Isaschar, Sebulon, Benjamin,
4Dan, Naphthali, Gad, Asser.
5Und aller Seelen, die aus den Lenden Jakobs kommen waren, der waren siebenzig. Joseph aber war zuvor in Agypten.
6Da nun Joseph gestorben war und alle seine Brüder und alle, die zu der Zeit gelebt hatten,
7wuchsen die Kinder Israel und zeugeten Kinder und mehreten sich; und wurden ihrer sehr viel, daß ihrer das Land voll ward.
8Da kam ein neuer Konig auf in Agypten, der wuftte nichts von Joseph;
9und sprach zu seinem Volk: Siehe, des Volks der Kinder Israel ist viel und mehr denn wir.
10Wohlan, wirwollen sie mit Listen dampfen, daß ihrer nicht so viel werden. Denn wo sich ein Krieg erhübe, mochten sie sich auch zu unsern Feinden schlagen und wider uns streiten und zum Lande ausziehen.
11Und man setzte Fronvogte uber sie, die sie mit schweren Diensten drucken sollten; denn man bauete dem Pharao die Stadte Pithon und Raemses zu Schatzhausern.
12Aber je mehr sie das Volk druckten, je mehr sich es mehrete und ausbreitete. Und sie hielten die Kinder Israel wie einen Greuel.
13Und die Agypter zwangen die Kinder Israel zu Dienst mit Unbarmherzigkeit
14und machten ihnen ihr Leben sauer mit schwerer Arbeit im Ton und Ziegeln und mit allerlei Fronen auf dem Felde und mit allerlei Arbeit, die sie ihnen auflegten mit Unbarmherzigkeit.
15Und der Konig in Agypten sprach zu den ebraischen Wehmuttern, deren eine hieft Siphra und die andere Pua:
16Wenn ihr den ebraischen Weibern helfet und auf dem Stuhl sehet, daß es ein Sohn ist, so totet ihn; ist's aber eine Tochter, so lasset sie leben.
17Aber die Wehmutter furchteten Gott und taten nicht, wie der Konig in Agypten zu ihnen gesagt hatte, sondern lieften die Kinder leben.
18Da rief der Konig in Agypten den Wehmuttern und sprach zu ihnen: Warum tut ihr das, daß ihr die Kinder leben lasset?
19Die Wehmutter antworteten Pharao: Die ebraischen Weiber sind nicht wie die agyptischen, denn sie sind harte Weiber; ehe die Wehmutter zu ihnen kommt, haben sie geboren.
20Darum tat Gott den Wehmuttern Gutes. Und das Volk mehrete sich und ward sehr viel.
21Und weil die Wehmutter Gott furchteten, bauete er ihnen Hauser.
22Da gebot Pharao all seinem Volk und sprach: Alle Sohne, die geboren werden, werfet ins Wasser und alle Tochter lasset leben.

1ESTOS son los nombres de los hijos de Israel, que entraron en Egipto con Jacob; cada uno entró con su familia.
2Rubén, Simeón, Leví y Judá;
3Issachâr, Zabulón y Benjamín;
4Dan y Nephtalí, Gad y Aser.
5Y todas las almas de los que salieron del muslo de Jacob, fueron setenta. Y José estaba en Egipto.
6Y murió José, y todos sus hermanos, y toda aquella generación.
7Y los hijos de Israel crecieron, y multiplicaron, y fueron aumentados y corroborados en extremo; y llenóse la tierra de ellos.
8Levantóse entretanto un nuevo rey sobre Egipto, que no conocía á José; el cual dijo á su pueblo:
9He aquí, el pueblo de los hijos de Israel es mayor y más fuerte que nosotros:
10Ahora, pues, seamos sabios para con él, porque no se multiplique, y acontezca que viniendo guerra, él también se junte con nuestros enemigos, y pelee contra nosotros, y se vaya de la tierra.
11Entonces pusieron sobre él comisarios de tributos que los molestasen con sus cargas; y edificaron á Faraón las ciudades de los bastimentos, Phithom y Raamses.
12Empero cuanto más los oprimían, tanto más se multiplicaban y crecían: así que estaban ellos fastidiados de los hijos de Israel.
13Y los Egipcios hicieron servir á los hijos de Israel con dureza:
14Y amargaron su vida con dura servidumbre, en hacer barro y ladrillo, y en toda labor del campo, y en todo su servicio, al cual los obligaban con rigorismo.
15Y habló el rey de Egipto á las parteras de las Hebreas, una de las cuales se llamaba Siphra, y otra Phúa, y díjoles:
16Cuando parteareis á las Hebreas, y mirareis los asientos, si fuere hijo, matadlo; y si fuere hija, entonces viva.
17Mas las parteras temieron á Dios, y no hicieron como les mandó el rey de Egipto, sino que reservaban la vida á los niños.
18Y el rey de Egipto hizo llamar á las parteras, y díjoles: Por qué habéis hecho esto, que habéis reservado la vida á los niños?
19Y las parteras respondieron á Faraón: Porque las mujeres Hebreas no son como las Egipcias: porque son robustas, y paren antes que la partera venga á ellas.
20Y Dios hizo bien á las parteras: y el pueblo se multiplicó, y se corroboraron en gran manera.
21Y por haber las parteras temido á Dios, él les hizo casas.
22Entonces Faraón mandó á todo su pueblo, diciendo: Echad en el río todo hijo que naciere, y á toda hija reservad la vida.

1Now these are the names of the children of Israel, which came into Egypt; every man and his household came with Jacob.
2Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,
3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,
4Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
5And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.
6And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.
7And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.
8Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.
9And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:
10Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.
11Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.
12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.
13And the Egyptians made the children of Israel to serve with rigour:
14And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in morter, and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field: all their service, wherein they made them serve, was with rigour.
15And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
16And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
17But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
18And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?
19And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.
20Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
21And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
22And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

1Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt (every man and his household came with Jacob):

3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

5All the souls who came out of Jacob’s body were seventy souls, and Joseph was in Egypt already.
6Joseph died, as did all his brothers, and all that generation.
7The children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.
8Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who didn’t know Joseph.

10Come, let’s deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies and fight against us, and escape out of the land.”
11Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses.
12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They started to dread the children of Israel.
13The Egyptians ruthlessly made the children of Israel serve,
14and they made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and in brick, and in all kinds of service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve.
15The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah,
16and he said, “When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.”
17But the midwives feared God, and didn’t do what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the baby boys alive.
18The king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, “Why have you done this thing and saved the boys alive?”
19The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women aren’t like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.”
20God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty.
21Because the midwives feared God, he gave them families.
22Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “You shall cast every son who is born into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.”
