Après ces choses, le roi Assuérus éleva Haman, fils de Hammedatha, l'Agaguite ; il lui donna un rang supérieur et plaça son siège au-dessus de tous les princes qui étaient avec lui.

Tous les serviteurs du roi qui se tenaient à la porte du roi s'agenouillaient et se prosternaient devant Haman, car le roi l'avait ainsi commandé à son sujet. Mais Mardochée ne s'agenouillait pas et ne se prosternait pas.

Y todos los siervos del rey que estaban á la puerta del rey, se arrodillaban é inclinaban á Amán, porque así se lo había mandado el rey; pero Mardochêo, ni se arrodillaba ni se humillaba.

And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.

Comme ils lui parlaient ainsi chaque jour et qu'il ne les écoutait pas, ils en informèrent Haman, pour voir si la résolution de Mardochée tiendrait bon ; car il leur avait dit qu'il était Juif.

Y aconteció que, hablándole cada día de esta manera, y no escuchándolos él, denunciáronlo á Amán, por ver si las palabras de Mardochêo se mantendrían; porque ya él les había declarado que era Judío.

Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.

Quand Haman vit que Mardochée ne s'agenouillait pas et ne se prosternait pas devant lui, Haman fut rempli de fureur.

Mais il dédaigna de porter la main sur Mardochée seul, car on lui avait fait connaître quel était le peuple de Mardochée. C'est pourquoi Haman chercha à détruire tous les Juifs, le peuple de Mardochée, qui se trouvaient dans tout le royaume d'Assuérus.

Mas tuvo en poco meter mano en solo Mardochêo; que ya le habían declarado el pueblo de Mardochêo: y procuró Amán destruir á todos los Judíos que había en el reino de Assuero, al pueblo de Mardochêo.

And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

Alors Haman dit au roi Assuérus : « Il y a un peuple dispersé et disséminé parmi les peuples dans toutes les provinces de ton royaume ; leurs lois sont différentes de celles de tout autre peuple, et ils n'observent pas les lois du roi. Il n'est donc pas dans l'intérêt du roi de les laisser en paix.

S'il plaît au roi, qu'on écrive un décret pour les détruire ; et je paierai dix mille talents d'argent entre les mains de ceux qui s'occupent des affaires du roi, pour qu'ils les portent dans les trésors du roi. »

Si place al rey, escríbase que sean destruídos; y yo pesaré diez mil talentos de plata en manos de los que manejan la hacienda, para que sean traídos á los tesoros del rey.

Le roi retira son anneau de sa main, et le donna à Haman, fils de Hammedatha, l'Agaguite, l'ennemi des Juifs.

Cela fut écrit au nom du roi Assuérus, et scellé avec l'anneau du roi.

Then were the king’s scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.

Then the king’s scribes were called in on the first month, on the thirteenth day of the month; and all that Haman commanded was written to the king’s local governors, and to the governors who were over every province, and to the princes of every people, to every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language. Les lettres furent envoyées par des courriers dans toutes les provinces du roi, afin de détruire, de tuer et de faire périr tous les Juifs, jeunes et vieux, petits enfants et femmes, en un seul jour, le treizième jour du douzième mois, qui est le mois d'Adar, et de piller leurs biens.

Les courriers partirent en hâte sur l'ordre du roi, et le décret fut publié à Suse, la capitale. Le roi et Haman s'assirent pour boire ; mais la ville de Suse était dans la consternation.
