1Höre, Israel: Du wirst heute über den Jordan gehen, daß du hineinkommest, Völker zu überwältigen, die größer und stärker sind als du, große Städte einzunehmen, die himmelhoch befestigt sind,
2ein großes und hochgewachsenes Volk, die Kinder Enak, die du kennst, von denen du auch sagen gehört hast: Wer kann den Kindern Enak widerstehen?
3So sollst du heute wissen, daß der HERR, dein Gott, vor dir hergeht, ein verzehrendes Feuer. Er wird sie vertilgen und sie vor dir her unterwerfen und sie vertreiben und eilends umbringen, wie dir der HERR verheißen hat.
4Wenn sie nun der HERR, dein Gott, vor dir her ausgestoßen hat, so sprich nicht in deinem Herzen: Um meiner eigenen Gerechtigkeit willen hat der HERR mich hereingeführt, dieses Land einzunehmen, so doch der HERR diese Heiden wegen ihres gottlosen Wesens vor dir her vertreibt.
5Denn nicht um deiner Gerechtigkeit und um deines aufrichtigen Herzens willen kommst du hinein, ihr Land einzunehmen, sondern um ihres gottlosen Wesens willen vertreibt der HERR, dein Gott, diese Heiden, und damit er das Wort halte, das der HERR deinen Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geschworen hat.
6So wisse nun, daß nicht um deiner Gerechtigkeit willen der HERR, dein Gott, dir dieses gute Land einzunehmen gibt; denn du bist ein halsstarriges Volk!
7Denke daran und vergiß nicht, wie du den HERRN, deinen Gott, in der Wüste erzürnt hast, und daß ihr von dem Tage an, da du aus Ägyptenland zogest, bis zu eurer Ankunft an diesem Ort widerspenstig gewesen seid gegen den HERRN.
8Denn am Horeb erzürntet ihr den HERRN so, daß der HERR euch im Zorn vertilgen wollte;
9als ich auf den Berg gegangen war, die steinernen Tafeln zu empfangen, die Tafeln des Bundes, den der HERR mit euch machte, da blieb ich vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte lang auf dem Berge und aß kein Brot und trank kein Wasser.
10Da gab mir der HERR die zwei steinernen Tafeln, mit dem Finger Gottes beschrieben, und darauf alle Worte, die der HERR mit euch aus dem Feuer heraus auf dem Berge, am Tage der Versammlung, geredet hat.
11Und nach vierzig Tagen und vierzig Nächten gab mir der HERR die zwei steinernen Tafeln, die Tafeln des Bundes.
12Und der HERR sprach zu mir: Mache dich auf und geh eilends hinab von hier; denn dein Volk, das du aus Ägypten geführt hast, hat Verderben angerichtet. Sie sind von dem Wege, den Ich ihnen geboten habe, eilends abgetreten und haben sich ein gegossenes Bild gemacht.
13Und der HERR sprach also zu mir: Ich habe dieses Volk gesehen, und siehe, es ist ein halsstarriges Volk!
14Laß ab von mir, daß ich sie vertilge und ihren Namen unter dem Himmel ausrotte! Ich will aus dir ein stärkeres und größeres Volk machen, als dieses ist.
15Als ich mich nun wandte und von dem Berge ging, der im Feuer brannte, und die zwei Tafeln des Bundes in meinen beiden Händen hatte,
16da sah ich es, und siehe, da hattet ihr euch an dem HERRN, eurem Gott, versündigt, indem ihr euch ein gegossenes Kalb gemacht und eilends von dem Wege abgetreten waret, den der HERR euch geboten hatte.
17Da faßte ich beide Tafeln und warf sie aus meinen beiden Händen und zerbrach sie vor euren Augen;
18und ich fiel vor dem HERRN nieder wie zuerst, vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte lang, und aß kein Brot und trank kein Wasser um aller eurer Sünden willen, die ihr begangen hattet, da ihr solches Übel tatet vor den Augen des HERRN, ihn zu erzürnen.
19Denn ich fürchtete mich vor dem Zorn und Grimm, womit der HERR über euch so sehr erzürnt war, daß er euch vertilgen wollte. Und der HERR erhörte mich auch diesmal.
20Auch über Aaron war der HERR sehr zornig, daß er ihn vertilgen wollte; aber ich bat auch für Aaron zu jener Zeit.
21Doch eure Sünde, das Kalb, das ihr gemacht hattet, nahm ich und verbrannte es mit Feuer und zerschlug es und zermalmte es, bis es Staub war, und warf den Staub in den Bach, der vom Berge fließt.
22Auch zu Tabeera und zu Massa und bei den Lustgräbern erzürntet ihr den HERRN.
23Und als der Herr euch aus Kadesch-Barnea sandte und sprach: Gehet hinauf und nehmet das Land ein, das ich euch gegeben habe, waret ihr dem Munde des HERRN, eures Gottes, widerspenstig und glaubtet ihm nicht und gehorchtet seiner Stimme nicht.
24Denn ihr seid widerspenstig gewesen gegen den HERRN, solange ich euch kenne!
25Als ich nun vor dem HERRN niederfiel jene vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte lang (so lange lag ich da, weil der HERR gesagt hatte, er wolle euch vertilgen)
26da bat ich den HERRN und sprach: Ach, Herr HERR, verdirb dein Volk und dein Erbteil nicht, das du durch deine große Kraft erlöst und mit mächtiger Hand aus Ägypten geführt hast!
27Gedenke an deine Knechte Abraham, Isaak und Jakob! Kehre dich nicht an die Hartnäckigkeit und an das gottlose Wesen und an die Sünden dieses Volkes;
28daß nicht das Land, daraus du uns geführt hast, sage: Der HERR konnte sie nicht in das Land bringen, das er ihnen versprochen hat, und er hat sie darum ausgeführt, weil er ihnen gram ward, damit er sie in der Wüste töte.
29Denn sie sind dein Volk und dein Erbteil, das du mit deiner großen Kraft und mit deinem ausgestreckten Arm ausgeführt hast.

1OYE, Israel: tú estás hoy para pasar el Jordán, para entrar á poseer gentes más numerosas y más fuertes que tú, ciudades grandes y encastilladas hasta el cielo,
2Un pueblo grande y alto, hijos de gigantes, de los cuales tienes tú conocimiento, y has oído decir: ¿Quién se sostendrá delante de los hijos del gigante?
3Sabe, pues, hoy que Jehová tu Dios es el que pasa delante de ti, fuego consumidor, que los destruirá y humillará delante de ti: y tú los echarás, y los destruirás luego, como Jehová te ha dicho.
4No discurras en tu corazón cuando Jehová tu Dios los habrá echado de delante de ti, diciendo: Por mi justicia me ha metido Jehová á poseer esta tierra; pues por la impiedad de estas gentes Jehová las echa de delante de ti.
5No por tu justicia, ni por la rectitud de tu corazón entras á poseer la tierra de ellos; mas por la impiedad de estas gentes Jehová tu Dios las echa de delante de ti, y por confirmar la palabra que Jehová juró á tus padres Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob.
6Por tanto, sabe que no por tu justicia Jehová tu Dios te da esta buena tierra para poseerla; que pueblo duro de cerviz eres tú.
7Acuérdate, no te olvides que has provocado á ira á Jehová tu Dios en el desierto: desde el día que saliste de la tierra de Egipto, hasta que entrasteis en este lugar, habéis sido rebeldes á Jehová.
8Y en Horeb provocasteis á ira á Jehová, y enojóse Jehová contra vosotros para destruiros.
9Cuando yo subí al monte para recibir las tablas de piedra, las tablas del pacto que Jehová hizo con vosotros, estuve entonces en el monte cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, sin comer pan ni beber agua:
10Y dióme Jehová las dos tablas de piedra escritas con el dedo de Dios; y en ellas estaba escrito conforme á todas las palabras que os habló Jehová en el monte de en medio del fuego, el día de la asamblea.
11Y fué al cabo de los cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, que Jehová me dió las dos tablas de piedra, las tablas del pacto.
12Y díjome Jehová: Levántate, desciende presto de aquí; que tu pueblo que sacaste de Egipto se ha corrompido: pronto se han apartado del camino que yo les mandé: hanse hecho una efigie de fundición.
13Y hablóme Jehová, diciendo: He visto ese pueblo, y he aquí, que él es pueblo duro de cerviz:
14Déjame que los destruya, y raiga su nombre de debajo del cielo; que yo te pondré sobre gente fuerte y mucha más que ellos.
15Y volví y descendí del monte, el cual ardía en fuego, con las tablas del pacto en mis dos manos.
16Y miré, y he aquí habíais pecado contra Jehová vuestro Dios: os habíais hecho un becerro de fundición, apartándoos presto del camino que Jehová os había mandado.
17Entonces tomé las dos tablas, y arrojélas de mis dos manos, y quebrélas delante de vuestros ojos.
18Y postréme delante de Jehová, como antes, cuarenta días y cuarenta noches: no comí pan ni bebí agua, á causa de todo vuestro pecado que habíais cometido haciendo mal en ojos de Jehová para enojarlo.
19Porque temí á causa del furor y de la ira con que Jehová estaba enojado contra vosotros para destruiros. Pero Jehová me oyó aún esta vez.
20Contra Aarón también se enojó Jehová en gran manera para destruirlo: y también oré por Aarón entonces.
21Y tomé vuestro pecado, el becerro que habíais hecho, y quemélo en el fuego, y lo desmenucé moliéndole muy bien, hasta que fué reducido á polvo: y eché el polvo de él en el arroyo que descendía del monte.
22También en Tabera, y en Massa, y en Kibroth-hataavah, enojasteis á Jehová.
23Y cuando Jehová os envió desde Cades-barnea, diciendo, Subid y poseed la tierra que yo os he dado; también fuisteis rebeldes al dicho de Jehová vuestro Dios, y no lo creisteis, ni obedecisteis á su voz.
24Rebeldes habéis sido á Jehová desde el día que yo os conozco.
25Postréme, pues, delante de Jehová cuarenta días y cuarenta noches que estuve postrado; porque Jehová dijo que os había de destruir.
26Y oré á Jehová, diciendo: Oh Señor Jehová, no destruyas tu pueblo y tu heredad que has redimido con tu grandeza, al cual sacaste de Egipto con mano fuerte.
27Acuérdate de tus siervos Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob; no mires á la dureza de este pueblo, ni á su impiedad, ni á su pecado:
28Porque no digan los de la tierra de donde nos sacaste: Por cuanto no pudo Jehová introducirlos en la tierra que les había dicho, ó porque los aborrecía, los sacó para matarlos en el desierto.
29Y ellos son tu pueblo y tu heredad, que sacaste con tu gran fortaleza y con tu brazo extendido.

1Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fenced up to heaven,
2A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak!
3Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee.
4Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.
5Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
6Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.
7Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the LORD.
8Also in Horeb ye provoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you.
9When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:
10And the LORD delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the LORD spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
11And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.
12And the LORD said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.
13Furthermore the LORD spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
14Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.
15So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.
16And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the LORD your God, and had made you a molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you.
17And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes.
18And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
19For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the LORD was wroth against you to destroy you. But the LORD hearkened unto me at that time also.
20And the LORD was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.
21And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.
22And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth-hattaavah, ye provoked the LORD to wrath.
23Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadesh-barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.
24Ye have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.
25Thus I fell down before the LORD forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the LORD had said he would destroy you.
26I prayed therefore unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
27Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:
28Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.
29Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm.

1Hear, Israel! You are to pass over the Jordan today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,
2a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, “Who can stand before the sons of Anak?”
3Know therefore today that the LORD your God is he who goes over before you as a devouring fire. He will destroy them and he will bring them down before you. So you shall drive them out and make them perish quickly, as the LORD has spoken to you.
4Don’t say in your heart, after the LORD your God has thrust them out from before you, “For my righteousness the LORD has brought me in to possess this land;” because the LORD drives them out before you because of the wickedness of these nations.
5Not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
6Know therefore that the LORD your God doesn’t give you this good land to possess for your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.
7Remember, and don’t forget, how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that you left the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.
8Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath, and the LORD was angry with you to destroy you.

17I took hold of the two tablets, and threw them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.
18I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, to provoke him to anger.
19For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure with which the LORD was angry against you to destroy you. But the LORD listened to me that time also.
20The LORD was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him. I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.
21I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burned it with fire, and crushed it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust. I threw its dust into the brook that descended out of the mountain.
22At Taberah, at Massah, and at Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked the LORD to wrath.
23When the LORD sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, “Go up and possess the land which I have given you,” you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God, and you didn’t believe him or listen to his voice.
24You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.
25So I fell down before the LORD the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because the LORD had said he would destroy you.
26I prayed to the LORD, and said, “Lord GOD, don’t destroy your people and your inheritance that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
27Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Don’t look at the stubbornness of this people, nor at their wickedness, nor at their sin,
28lest the land you brought us out from say, ‘Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’
29Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.”
