1Lorsque l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'aura introduit dans le pays vers lequel tu t'avances pour en faire la conquête et qu'il chassera devant toi des nations nombreuses, les Héthiens et les Gergésites, et les Amoréens et les Cananéens et les Perizzites et les Hévites, et les Jébusites, sept nations plus nombreuses et plus fortes que toi,
2et que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te les livrera, et que tu les auras vaincues, tu les dévoueras, et tu ne leur accorderas ni capitulation, ni merci.
3Et tu ne contracteras point d'alliance avec eux, tu ne donneras pas tes filles à leurs fils, et tu ne prendras pas leurs filles pour tes fils,
4car ils détacheraient de moi tes fils qui se mettraient à servir d'autres dieux ; et alors la colère de l'Éternel s'allumerait contre vous et vous détruirait bien vite.
5Voici, au contraire, comment vous les traiterez : vous démolirez leurs autels, briserez leurs colonnes, abattrez leurs Aschères, et brûlerez au feu leurs idoles.
6Car tu es un peuple consacré à l'Éternel, ton Dieu ; l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a choisi pour être son peuple particulier, entre tous les peuples qui sont sur la surface de la terre ;
7ce n'est pas parce que vous êtes supérieurs en nombre à tous les peuples, que l'Éternel s'est attaché à vous, et a fait choix de vous, car vous êtes le moins grand de tous les peuples ;
8mais c'est parce que l'Éternel vous aime et qu'il garde le serment juré à vos pères, que l'Éternel vous a retirés avec une main forte et délivrés de la maison de servitude et de la main de Pharaon, Roi d'Egypte.
9Reconnais donc que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, est le Dieu, le Dieu fidèle qui garde son alliance et sa dilection à ceux qui l'aiment et gardent ses commandements, jusqu'à la millième génération,
10mais qui use de représailles directes envers ceux qui le haïssent, en les faisant périr ; Il n'use pas de délais envers ceux qui le haïssent ; ses représailles sont directes.
11Ainsi, garde les commandements et les statuts et les lois que je te prescris en ce jour, pour les pratiquer.
12Et en retour de votre docilité à ces lois, et de votre application à les pratiquer, l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te gardera aussi l'alliance et la dilection qu'il promit par serment à tes pères ;
13et Il t'aimera, te bénira, te multipliera et bénira le fruit de tes flancs et le fruit de ton sol, ton blé et ton moût et ton huile et la progéniture de tes vaches et les portées de tes brebis, dans le pays qu'il jura à tes pères de te donner.
14Tu seras béni plus que tous les peuples ; chez toi et dans tes troupeaux il n'y aura ni mâle impuissant, ni femelle stérile.
15Et l'Éternel éloignera de toi toute maladie, et Il ne t'infligera aucune de ces malignes consomptions de l'Egypte, que tu connais, et Il les fera subir à tous ceux qui te haïssent.
16Et tu dévoreras tous les peuples que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, va te livrer : ne les regarde pas avec pitié, et ne sers pas leurs dieux, car ce serait un piège pour toi.
17Si tu dis dans ton cœur : Ces nations sont plus nombreuses que moi, comment pourrai-je les chasser ?
18ne les redoute pas ; rappelle le souvenir de ce que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, a fait à Pharaon et à toute l'Egypte,
19les grandes épreuves que tes yeux ont vues, les signes et les prodiges ; et la main forte et le bras étendu, avec lesquels l'Éternel, ton Dieu, opéra ta sortie : ainsi fera l'Éternel, ton Dieu, à tous les peuples que tu redoutes.
20Et l'Éternel, ton Dieu, enverra aussi contre eux les frelons, jusqu'à l'extermination des survivants et de ceux qui se cachent devant toi.
21Sois sans peur devant eux, car l'Éternel, ton Dieu, Dieu grand et redoutable, est au milieu de toi.
22Et l'Éternel, ton Dieu, chassera ces nations de devant toi peu à peu ; tu ne pourras les anéantir rapidement, afin que les bêtes des champs multipliées ne t'assaillent pas.
23Et l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te les livrera, et Il les troublera par une grande épouvante jusqu'à ce qu'elles soient exterminées.
24Et Il livrera leurs rois entre tes mains, et tu feras disparaître leurs noms de dessous les cieux ; nul ne te tiendra tête, jusqu'à ce que tu les aies anéantis.
25Vous brûlerez au feu les images de leurs dieux ; ne convoite pas l'or et l'argent qui les recouvre, ni n'en fais ta proie, de peur que tu ne sois pris à leur piège, car ils sont l'abomination de l'Éternel, ton Dieu.
26Et n'introduis point l'abomination dans ta maison, afin que tu ne tombes pas sous l'interdit comme eux ; tu dois en avoir horreur comme abomination ; car c'est chose dévouée.

1CUANDO Jehová tu Dios te hubiere introducido en la tierra en la cual tú has de entrar para poseerla, y hubiere echado de delante de ti muchas gentes, al Hetheo, al Gergeseo, y al Amorrheo, y al Cananeo, y al Pherezeo, y al Heveo, y al Jebuseo, siete naciones mayores y más fuertes que tú;
2Y Jehová tu Dios las hubiere entregado delante de ti, y las hirieres, del todo las destruirás: no harás con ellos alianza, ni las tomarás á merced.
3Y no emparentarás con ellos: no darás tu hija á su hijo, ni tomarás á su hija para tu hijo.
4Porque desviará á tu hijo de en pos de mí, y servirán á dioses ajenos; y el furor de Jehová se encenderá sobre vosotros, y te destruirá presto.
5Mas así habéis de hacer con ellos: sus altares destruiréis, y quebraréis sus estatuas, y cortaréis sus bosques, y quemaréis sus esculturas en el fuego.
6Porque tú eres pueblo santo á Jehová tu Dios: Jehová tu Dios te ha escogido para serle un pueblo especial, más que todos los pueblos que están sobre la haz de la tierra.
7No por ser vosotros más que todos los pueblos os ha querido Jehová, y os ha escogido; porque vosotros erais los más pocos de todos los pueblos:
8Sino porque Jehová os amó, y quiso guardar el juramento que juró á vuestros padres, os ha sacado Jehová con mano fuerte, y os ha rescatado de casa de siervos, de la mano de Faraón, rey de Egipto.
9Conoce, pues, que Jehová tu Dios es Dios, Dios fiel, que guarda el pacto y la misericordia á los que le aman y guardan sus mandamientos, hasta las mil generaciones;
10Y que da el pago en su cara al que le aborrece, destruyéndolo: ni lo dilatará al que le odia, en su cara le dará el pago.
11Guarda por tanto los mandamientos, y estatutos, y derechos que yo te mando hoy que cumplas.
12Y será que, por haber oído estos derechos, y guardado y puéstolos por obra, Jehová tu Dios guardará contigo el pacto y la misericordia que juró á tus padres;
13Y te amará, y te bendecirá, y te multiplicará, y bendecirá el fruto de tu vientre, y el fruto de tu tierra, y tu grano, y tu mosto, y tu aceite, la cría de tus vacas, y los rebaños de tus ovejas, en la tierra que juró á tus padres que te daría.
14Bendito serás más que todos los pueblos: no habrá en ti varón ni hembra estéril, ni en tus bestias.
15Y quitará Jehová de ti toda enfermedad; y todas las malas plagas de Egipto, que tú sabes, no las pondrá sobre ti, antes las pondrá sobre todos los que te aborrecieren.
16Y consumirás á todos los pueblos que te da Jehová tu Dios: no los perdonará tu ojo; ni servirás á sus dioses, que te será tropiezo.
17Cuando dijeres en tu corazón: Estas gentes son muchas más que yo, ¿cómo las podré desarraigar?;
18No tengas temor de ellos: acuérdate bien de lo que hizo Jehová tu Dios con Faraón y con todo Egipto;
19De las grandes pruebas que vieron tus ojos, y de las señales y milagros, y de la mano fuerte y brazo extendido con que Jehová tu Dios te sacó: así hará Jehová tu Dios con todos los pueblos de cuya presencia tú temieres.
20Y también enviará Jehová tu Dios sobre ellos avispas, hasta que perezcan los que quedaren, y los que se hubieren escondido de delante de ti.
21No desmayes delante de ellos, que Jehová tu Dios está en medio de ti, Dios grande y terrible.
22Y Jehová tu Dios echará á estas gentes de delante de ti poco á poco: no las podrás acabar luego, porque las bestias del campo no se aumenten contra ti.
23Mas Jehová tu Dios las entregará delante de ti, y él las quebrantará con grande destrozo, hasta que sean destruídos.
24Y él entregará sus reyes en tu mano, y tú destruirás el nombre de ellos de debajo del cielo: nadie te hará frente hasta que los destruyas.
25Las esculturas de sus dioses quemarás en el fuego: no codiciarás plata ni oro de sobre ellas para tomarlo para ti, porque no tropieces en ello, pues es abominación á Jehová tu Dios;
26Y no meterás abominación en tu casa, porque no seas anatema como ello; del todo lo aborrecerás y lo abominarás; porque es anatema.

1When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
2And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
3Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
4For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
5But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:
8But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
10And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
11Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
12Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:
13And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
14Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
15And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.
16And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.
17If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?
18Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;
19The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid.
20Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed.
21Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.
22And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.
23But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.
24And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.
25The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.
26Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

1When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you go to possess it, and casts out many nations before you—the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite—seven nations greater and mightier than you;
2and when the LORD your God delivers them up before you, and you strike them, then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them.
3You shall not make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to his son, nor shall you take his daughter for your son.
4For that would turn away your sons from following me, that they may serve other gods. So the LORD’s anger would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.
5But you shall deal with them like this: you shall break down their altars, dash their pillars in pieces, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their engraved images with fire.
6For you are a holy people to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.
7The LORD didn’t set his love on you nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples;

25You shall burn the engraved images of their gods with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, lest you be snared in it; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.
26You shall not bring an abomination into your house and become a devoted thing like it. You shall utterly detest it. You shall utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.
