1Lorsque le Seigneur t'aura introduit en la terre où tu vas, pour qu'elle soit ton héritage, et que devant tes yeux il aura fait disparaître de grandes nations : l'Hettéen, le Gergéséen, l'Amorrhéen, le Chananéen, le Phérézéen, l'Evéen et le Jébuséen, sept nations nombreuses et plus fortes que toi,
2Et que le Seigneur ton Dieu te les aura livrées, et que tu les auras vaincues, tu les effaceras entièrement, tu ne feras pas d'alliance avec elles, tu seras pour elles sans pitié.
3Vous ne ferez point de mariages avec elles ; tu ne donneras point à son fils ta fille, et tu ne prendras point sa fille pour ton fils.
4Car sa fille détournerait ton fils de moi, et il servirait d'autres dieux, et le Seigneur se courroucerait contre son peuple, et il t'exterminerait tout à coup.
5Voici comme vous les traiterez : vous enlèverez leurs autels, vous briserez leurs colonnes, vous arracherez leurs bois sacrés, vous consumerez par la flamme les images sculptées de leurs dieux.
6Car tu es un peuple saint, le peuple du Seigneur ton Dieu, et le Seigneur ton Dieu t'a choisi pour que tu sois son propre peuple, séparé de toutes les nations qui existent sur la surface de la terre.
7Le Seigneur ne vous a point préférés, il ne vous a pas choisis parce que vous êtes plus nombreux qu'aucune de ces nations ; car vous êtes moindres en nombre que chacun de ces peuples.
8Mais il vous aime et il tient le serment qu'il a fait à vos pères. Voilà pourquoi le Seigneur vous a guidés d'une main puissante ; il t'a fait sortir de la maison de servitude, il t'a délivré de la maison du Pharaon, roi d'Egypte.
9Tu sauras que le Seigneur ton Dieu, le seul Dieu, est un Dieu fidèle, réservant son alliance et sa miséricorde à ceux qui l'aiment et à ceux qui observent ses commandements, pendant des milliers de générations,
10Mais se vengeant dès le début de ceux qui le haïssent ; ceux-là, il les extermine ; il ne met point de retard avec ceux qui le haïssent, il en tirera une vengeance soudaine.
11Tu observeras les commandements, les jugements et les ordonnances que je t'intime aujourd'hui.
12Aussi longtemps que tu obéiras à ces préceptes, que tu t'appliqueras à les mettre en pratique, le Seigneur ton Dieu te conservera l'alliance et la miséricorde qu'il a promises à tes pères.
13Et il t'aimera, et il te bénira ; il te multipliera, il bénira les fruits de tes entrailles, et les produits de ta terre : ton blé, ton vin, ton huile, tes grands et menus troupeaux sur la terre que le Seigneur a juré à tes pères de te donner.
14Tu seras béni au-dessus de toutes les nations ; il n'y aura point parmi vous d'hommes sans enfants, ni de femme stérile ; il n'y aura point non plus de stérilité parmi les troupeaux.
15Et le Seigneur ton Dieu te préservera de toute maladie, et de ces mauvaises contagions de l'Egypte que tu as vues ; il ne fera tomber sur toi aucune de celles que tu y as connues, et il en frappera ceux qui te haïssent.
16Et tu mangeras ce que tu auras enlevé à ces nations ; le Seigneur te le donne ; ton œil ne les prendra pas en pitié, et tu ne serviras point leurs dieux, car ce serait pour toi un achoppement.
17Et si, en ta pensée, tu dis : Telle de ces nations est plus forte que moi, comment pourrai-je l'exterminer ?
18Rassure-toi ; rappelle à ton souvenir tout ce qu'a fait le Seigneur ton Dieu au Pharaon et aux Egyptiens,
19Les grandes épreuves que tes yeux ont vues, les signes et les grands prodiges, la main puissante et le bras très-haut ; de même que le Seigneur ton Dieu t'a délivré, de même il te fera triompher de toutes les nations dont tu redoutes la face.
20Le Seigneur ton Dieu enverra contre elles des essaims de guêpes, jusqu'à ce qu'ils aient détruit celles qui t'auraient échappé et se seraient cachées devant toi.
21Tu ne seras pas blessé en face d'elles : parce que le Seigneur ton Dieu est avec toi : Dieu grand et puissant.
22Le Seigneur ton Dieu les détruira peu à peu devant toi ; tu ne pourras les exterminer soudain, de peur que la contrée ne devienne un désert, et que les bêtes farouches ne se multiplient contre toi.
23Le Seigneur ton Dieu te les livrera ; tu les détruiras lentement jusqu'à ce qu'enfin tu les aies exterminées.
24Et il te livrera leurs rois, et tu effaceras leur nom de ce pays ; nul ne te résistera face à face, jusqu'à ce que tu les aies exterminées.
25Tu consumeras par la flamme les images sculptées de leurs dieux ; tu ne convoiteras ni l'or ni l'argent qui les ornent ; tu ne le prendras pas pour toi, de peur que tu n'en sois puni ; car c'est une abomination pour le Seigneur ton Dieu.
26Tu n'emporteras point d'abominations en ta demeure, car tu serais anathème comme elles ; tu les détesteras, tu les auras en abomination : elles sont anathèmes.

1CUANDO Jehová tu Dios te hubiere introducido en la tierra en la cual tú has de entrar para poseerla, y hubiere echado de delante de ti muchas gentes, al Hetheo, al Gergeseo, y al Amorrheo, y al Cananeo, y al Pherezeo, y al Heveo, y al Jebuseo, siete naciones mayores y más fuertes que tú;
2Y Jehová tu Dios las hubiere entregado delante de ti, y las hirieres, del todo las destruirás: no harás con ellos alianza, ni las tomarás á merced.
3Y no emparentarás con ellos: no darás tu hija á su hijo, ni tomarás á su hija para tu hijo.
4Porque desviará á tu hijo de en pos de mí, y servirán á dioses ajenos; y el furor de Jehová se encenderá sobre vosotros, y te destruirá presto.
5Mas así habéis de hacer con ellos: sus altares destruiréis, y quebraréis sus estatuas, y cortaréis sus bosques, y quemaréis sus esculturas en el fuego.
6Porque tú eres pueblo santo á Jehová tu Dios: Jehová tu Dios te ha escogido para serle un pueblo especial, más que todos los pueblos que están sobre la haz de la tierra.
7No por ser vosotros más que todos los pueblos os ha querido Jehová, y os ha escogido; porque vosotros erais los más pocos de todos los pueblos:
8Sino porque Jehová os amó, y quiso guardar el juramento que juró á vuestros padres, os ha sacado Jehová con mano fuerte, y os ha rescatado de casa de siervos, de la mano de Faraón, rey de Egipto.
9Conoce, pues, que Jehová tu Dios es Dios, Dios fiel, que guarda el pacto y la misericordia á los que le aman y guardan sus mandamientos, hasta las mil generaciones;
10Y que da el pago en su cara al que le aborrece, destruyéndolo: ni lo dilatará al que le odia, en su cara le dará el pago.
11Guarda por tanto los mandamientos, y estatutos, y derechos que yo te mando hoy que cumplas.
12Y será que, por haber oído estos derechos, y guardado y puéstolos por obra, Jehová tu Dios guardará contigo el pacto y la misericordia que juró á tus padres;
13Y te amará, y te bendecirá, y te multiplicará, y bendecirá el fruto de tu vientre, y el fruto de tu tierra, y tu grano, y tu mosto, y tu aceite, la cría de tus vacas, y los rebaños de tus ovejas, en la tierra que juró á tus padres que te daría.
14Bendito serás más que todos los pueblos: no habrá en ti varón ni hembra estéril, ni en tus bestias.
15Y quitará Jehová de ti toda enfermedad; y todas las malas plagas de Egipto, que tú sabes, no las pondrá sobre ti, antes las pondrá sobre todos los que te aborrecieren.
16Y consumirás á todos los pueblos que te da Jehová tu Dios: no los perdonará tu ojo; ni servirás á sus dioses, que te será tropiezo.
17Cuando dijeres en tu corazón: Estas gentes son muchas más que yo, ¿cómo las podré desarraigar?;
18No tengas temor de ellos: acuérdate bien de lo que hizo Jehová tu Dios con Faraón y con todo Egipto;
19De las grandes pruebas que vieron tus ojos, y de las señales y milagros, y de la mano fuerte y brazo extendido con que Jehová tu Dios te sacó: así hará Jehová tu Dios con todos los pueblos de cuya presencia tú temieres.
20Y también enviará Jehová tu Dios sobre ellos avispas, hasta que perezcan los que quedaren, y los que se hubieren escondido de delante de ti.
21No desmayes delante de ellos, que Jehová tu Dios está en medio de ti, Dios grande y terrible.
22Y Jehová tu Dios echará á estas gentes de delante de ti poco á poco: no las podrás acabar luego, porque las bestias del campo no se aumenten contra ti.
23Mas Jehová tu Dios las entregará delante de ti, y él las quebrantará con grande destrozo, hasta que sean destruídos.
24Y él entregará sus reyes en tu mano, y tú destruirás el nombre de ellos de debajo del cielo: nadie te hará frente hasta que los destruyas.
25Las esculturas de sus dioses quemarás en el fuego: no codiciarás plata ni oro de sobre ellas para tomarlo para ti, porque no tropieces en ello, pues es abominación á Jehová tu Dios;
26Y no meterás abominación en tu casa, porque no seas anatema como ello; del todo lo aborrecerás y lo abominarás; porque es anatema.

1When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
2And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
3Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.
4For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.
5But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
6For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
7The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:
8But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
10And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.
11Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.
12Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the LORD thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:
13And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
14Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.
15And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.
16And thou shalt consume all the people which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.
17If thou shalt say in thine heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?
18Thou shalt not be afraid of them: but shalt well remember what the LORD thy God did unto Pharaoh, and unto all Egypt;
19The great temptations which thine eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the LORD thy God brought thee out: so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the people of whom thou art afraid.
20Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed.
21Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.
22And the LORD thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.
23But the LORD thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.
24And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.
25The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.
26Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

1When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you go to possess it, and casts out many nations before you—the Hittite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite—seven nations greater and mightier than you;
2and when the LORD your God delivers them up before you, and you strike them, then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them.
3You shall not make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to his son, nor shall you take his daughter for your son.
4For that would turn away your sons from following me, that they may serve other gods. So the LORD’s anger would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.
5But you shall deal with them like this: you shall break down their altars, dash their pillars in pieces, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their engraved images with fire.
6For you are a holy people to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.

25You shall burn the engraved images of their gods with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, lest you be snared in it; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.
26You shall not bring an abomination into your house and become a devoted thing like it. You shall utterly detest it. You shall utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.
