1Da wandten wir uns und zogen aus zur Wüste auf der Straße zum Schilfmeer, wie der HERR zu mir sagte, und umzogen das Gebirge Seir eine lange Zeit.
2Und der HERR sprach zu mir:
3Ihr habt dies Gebirge nun genug umzogen; wendet euch gegen Mitternacht.
4Und gebeut dem Volk und sprich: Ihr werdet durch die Grenze eurer Brüder, der Kinder Esau, ziehen, die da wohnen zu Seir; und sie werden sich vor euch fürchten. Aber verwahret euch mit Fleiß,
5daß ihr sie nicht bekrieget; denn ich werde euch ihres Landes nicht einen Fußbreit geben; denn das Gebirge Seir habe ich den Kindern Esau zu besitzen gegeben.
6Speise sollt ihr ums Geld von ihnen kaufen, daß ihr esset, und Wasser sollt ihr ums Geld von ihnen kaufen, daß ihr trinket.
7Denn der HERR, dein Gott, hat dich gesegnet in allen Werken deiner Hände. Er hat dein Reisen zu Herzen genommen durch diese große Wüste und ist vierzig Jahre der HERR, dein Gott, bei dir gewesen, daß dir nichts gemangelt hat.
8Da wir nun durch unsere Brüder, die Kinder Esau, gezogen waren, die auf dem Gebirge Seir wohneten, auf dem Wege des Gefildes von Elath und Ezeon-Gaber, wandten wir uns und gingen durch den Weg der Wüste der Moabiter.
9Da sprach der HERR zu mir: Du sollst die Moabiter nicht beleidigen noch bekriegen; denn ich will dir ihres Landes nichts zu besitzen geben, denn ich habe Ar den Kindern Lot zu besitzen gegeben.
10Die Emim haben vorzeiten drinnen gewohnet; das war ein groß, stark und hoch Volk wie die Enakim
11Man hielt sie auch für Riesen, gleichwie Enakim; und die Moabiter heißen sie auch Emim.
12Auch wohneten vorzeiten in Seir die Horiter; und die Kinder Esau vertrieben und vertilgten sie von ihnen und wohneten an ihrer Statt, gleichwie Israel dem Lande seiner Besitzung tat, das ihnen der HERR gab.
13So macht euch nun auf und ziehet durch den Bach Sared. Und wir zogen herdurch.
14Die Zeit aber, die wir von Kades-Barnea zogen, bis wir durch den Bach Sared kamen, war achtunddreißig Jahre, auf daß alle die Kriegsleute stürben im Lager, wie der HERR ihnen geschworen hatte.
15Dazu war auch die Hand des HERRN wider sie, daß sie umkämen aus dem Lager, bis daß ihrer ein Ende würde.
16Und da alle der Kriegsleute ein Ende war, daß sie starben unter dem Volk,
17redete der HERR mit mir und sprach:
18Du wirst heute durch die Grenze der Moabiter ziehen bei Ar;
19und wirst nahe kommen gegen die Kinder Ammon. Die sollst du nicht beleidigen noch bekriegen; denn ich will dir des Landes der Kinder Ammon nichts zu besitzen geben, denn ich hab's den Kindern Lot zu besitzen gegeben.
20Es ist auch geschätzt für der Riesen Land, und haben auch vorzeiten Riesen drinnen gewohnet; und die Ammoniter heißen sie Sammesumim.
21Das war ein groß, stark und hoch Volk, wie die Enakim; und der HERR vertilgete sie vor ihnen und ließ sie dieselben besitzen, daß sie an ihrer Statt da wohneten,
22gleichwie er getan hat mit den Kindern Esau, die auf dem Gebirge Seir wohnen, da er die Horiter vor ihnen vertilgete, und ließ sie dieselben besitzen, daß sie da an ihren Statt wohneten bis auf diesen Tag.
23Und die Kaphthorim zogen aus Kaphthor und vertilgeten die Avim, die zu Hazerim wohneten bis gen Gaza, und wohneten an ihrer Statt daselbst.
24Machet euch auf und ziehet aus und gehet über den Bach bei Arnon. Siehe, ich habe Sihon, den König der Amoriter zu Hesbon, in deine Hände gegeben mit seinem Lande. Heb an einzunehmen, und streite wider ihn!
25Heutigestages will ich anheben, daß sich von dir fürchten und erschrecken sollen alle Völker unter allen Himmeln, daß, wenn sie von dir hören, ihnen bange und wehe werden soll vor deiner Zukunft.
26Da sandte ich Boten aus der Wüste von morgenwärts zu Sihon, dem Könige zu Hesbon, mit friedlichen Worten und ließ ihm sagen:
27Ich will durch dein Land ziehen, und wo die Straße gehet, will ich gehen; ich will weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken ausweichen.
28Speise sollst du mir ums Geld verkaufen, daß ich esse, und Wasser sollst du mir ums Geld geben, daß ich trinke; ich will nur zu Fuß durchhin gehen;
29wie mir die Kinder Esau getan haben, die zu Seir wohnen, und die Moabiter, die zu Ar wohnen; bis daß ich komme über den Jordan, in das Land, das uns der HERR, unser Gott, geben wird.
30Aber Sihon, der König zu Hesbon, wollte uns nicht durchziehen lassen; denn der HERR, dein Gott, verhärtete seinen Mut und verstockte ihm sein Herz, auf daß er ihn in deine Hände gäbe, wie es jetzt ist am Tage.
31Und der HERR sprach zu mir: Siehe, ich habe angefangen, zu geben vor dir den Sihon mit seinem Lande; hebet an, einzunehmen und zu besitzen sein Land.
32Und Sihon zog aus uns entgegen mit all seinem Volk zum Streit gen Jahza.
33Aber der HERR, unser Gott, gab ihn vor uns, daß wir ihn schlugen mit seinen Kindern und seinem ganzen Volk.
34Da gewannen wir zu den Zeit alle seine Städte und verbanneten alle Städte, beide Männer, Weiber und Kinder, und ließen niemand über bleiben.
35Ohne das Vieh raubten wir für uns und die Ausbeute der Städte, die wir gewannen,
36von Aroer an, die am Ufer des Bachs bei Arnon liegt, und von der Stadt am Wasser bis gen Gilead. Es war keine Stadt, die sich vor uns schützen konnte; der HERR, unser Gott, gab uns alles vor uns.
37Ohne zu dem Lande der Kinder Ammon kamest du nicht, noch zu allem, das am Bach Jabbok war, noch zu den Städten auf dem Gebirge, noch zu allem, das uns der HERR, unser Gott, verboten hatte.

1Y VOLVIMOS, y partímonos al desierto camino del mar Bermejo, como Jehová me había dicho; y rodeamos el monte de Seir por muchos días.
2Y Jehová me habló, diciendo:
3Harto habéis rodeado este monte; volveos al aquilón.
4Y manda al pueblo, diciendo: Pasando vosotros por el término de vuestros hermanos los hijos de Esaú, que habitan en Seir, ellos tendrán miedo de vosotros; mas vosotros guardaos mucho:
5No os metáis con ellos; que no os daré de su tierra ni aun la holladura de la planta de un pie; porque yo he dado por heredad á Esaú el monte de Seir.
6Compraréis de ellos por dinero las viandas, y comeréis; y también compraréis de ellos el agua, y beberéis:
7Pues Jehová tu Dios te ha bendecido en toda obra de tus manos: él sabe que andas por este gran desierto: estos cuarenta años Jehová tu Dios fué contigo; y ninguna cosa te ha faltado.
8Y pasamos de nuestros hermanos los hijos de Esaú, que habitaban en Seir, por el camino de la llanura de Elath y de Esiongeber. Y volvimos, y pasamos camino del desierto de Moab.
9Y Jehová me dijo: No molestes á Moab, ni te empeñes con ellos en guerra, que no te daré posesión de su tierra; porque yo he dado á Ar por heredad á los hijos de Lot.
10(Los Emimeos habitaron en ella antes, pueblo grande, y numeroso, y alto como gigantes:
11Por gigantes eran ellos también contados, como los Anaceos; y los Moabitas los llaman Emimeos.
12Y en Seir habitaron antes los Horeos, á los cuales echaron los hijos de Esaú; y los destruyeron de delante de sí, y moraron en lugar de ellos; como hizo Israel en la tierra de su posesión que les dió Jehová.)
13Levantaos ahora, y pasad el arroyo de Zered. Y pasamos el arroyo de Zered.
14Y los días que anduvimos de Cades-barnea hasta que pasamos el arroyo de Zered, fueron treinta y ocho años; hasta que se acabó toda la generación de los hombres de guerra de en medio del campo, como Jehová les había jurado.
15Y también la mano de Jehová fué sobre ellos para destruirlos de en medio del campo, hasta acabarlos.
16Y aconteció que cuando se hubieron acabado de morir todos los hombres de guerra de entre el pueblo,
17Jehová me habló, diciendo:
18Tú pasarás hoy el término de Moab, á Ar,
19Y te acercarás delante de los hijos de Ammón: no los molestes, ni te metas con ellos; porque no te tengo de dar posesión de la tierra de los hijos de Ammón; que á los hijos de Lot la he dado por heredad.
20(Por tierra de gigantes fué también ella tenida: habitaron en ella gigantes en otro tiempo, á los cuales los Ammonitas llamaban Zomzommeos;
21Pueblo grande, y numeroso, y alto, como los Anaceos; á los cuales Jehová destruyó de delante de los Ammonitas, quienes les sucedieron, y habitaron en su lugar:
22Como hizo con los hijos de Esaú, que habitaban en Seir, de delante de los cuales destruyó á los Horeos; y ellos les sucedieron, y habitaron en su lugar hasta hoy.
23Y á los Heveos que habitaban en Haserin hasta Gaza, los Caftoreos que salieron de Caftor los destruyeron, y habitaron en su lugar.)
24Levantaos, partid, y pasad el arroyo de Arnón: he aquí he dado en tu mano á Sehón rey de Hesbón, Amorrheo, y á su tierra: comienza á tomar posesión, y empéñate con él en guerra.
25Hoy comenzaré á poner tu miedo y tu espanto sobre los pueblos debajo de todo el cielo; los cuales oirán tu fama, y temblarán, y angustiarse han delante de ti.
26Y envié mensajeros desde el desierto de Cademoth á Sehón rey de Hesbón, con palabras de paz, diciendo:
27Pasaré por tu tierra por el camino: por el camino iré, sin apartarme á diestra ni á siniestra:
28La comida me venderás por dinero, y comeré: el agua también me darás por dinero, y beberé: solamente pasaré á pie;
29Como lo hicieron conmigo los hijos de Esaú que habitaban en Seir, y los Moabitas que habitaban en Ar; hasta que pase el Jordán á la tierra que nos da Jehová nuestro Dios.
30Mas Sehón rey de Hesbón no quiso que pasásemos por el territorio suyo; porque Jehová tu Dios había endurecido su espíritu, y obstinado su corazón para entregarlo en tu mano, como hoy.
31Y díjome Jehová: He aquí yo he comenzado á dar delante de ti á Sehón y á su tierra; comienza á tomar posesión, para que heredes su tierra.
32Y saliónos Sehón al encuentro, él y todo su pueblo, para pelear en Jaas.
33Mas Jehová nuestro Dios lo entregó delante de nosotros; y herimos á él y á sus hijos, y á todo su pueblo.
34Y tomamos entonces todas sus ciudades, y destruimos todas las ciudades, hombres, y mujeres, y niños; no dejamos ninguno:
35Solamente tomamos para nosotros las bestias, y los despojos de las ciudades que habíamos tomado.
36Desde Aroer, que está junto á la ribera del arroyo de Arnón, y la ciudad que está en el arroyo, hasta Galaad, no hubo ciudad que escapase de nosotros: todas las entregó Jehová nuestro Dios en nuestro poder.
37Solamente á la tierra de los hijos de Ammón no llegaste, ni á todo lo que está á la orilla del arroyo de Jaboc ni á las ciudades del monte, ni á lugar alguno que Jehová nuestro Dios había prohibido.

1Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD spake unto me: and we compassed mount Seir many days.
2And the LORD spake unto me, saying,
3Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward.
4And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you: take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore:
5Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession.
6Ye shall buy meat of them for money, that ye may eat; and ye shall also buy water of them for money, that ye may drink.
7For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
8And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Ezion-gaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
9And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.
10The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;
11Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.
12The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.
13Now rise up, said I, and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.
14And the space in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them.
15For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed.
16So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
17That the LORD spake unto me, saying,
18Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day:
19And when thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.
20(That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims;
21A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead:
22As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day:
23And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)
24Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.
25This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.
26And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
27Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.
28Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet;
29(As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us.
30But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day.
31And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land.
32Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.
33And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.
34And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:
35Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.
36From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us:
37Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us.
World English Bible
1Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as the LORD spoke to me; and we encircled Mount Seir many days.
2The LORD spoke to me, saying,
3“You have encircled this mountain long enough. Turn northward.
4Command the people, saying, ‘You are to pass through the border of your brothers, the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. Therefore be careful.
5Don’t contend with them; for I will not give you any of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.
6You shall purchase food from them for money, that you may eat. You shall also buy water from them for money, that you may drink.’”
7For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has known your walking through this great wilderness. These forty years, the LORD your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing.
8So we passed by from our brothers, the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
9The LORD said to me, “Don’t bother Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you any of his land for a possession, because I have given Ar to the children of Lot for a possession.”
10(The Emim lived there before, a great and numerous people, and tall as the Anakim.
11These also are considered to be Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim.
12The Horites also lived in Seir in the past, but the children of Esau succeeded them. They destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place, as Israel did to the land of his possession, which the LORD gave to them.)
13“Now rise up and cross over the brook Zered.” We went over the brook Zered.
14The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea until we had come over the brook Zered were thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the middle of the camp, as the LORD swore to them.
15Moreover the LORD’s hand was against them, to destroy them from the middle of the camp, until they were consumed.
16So, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
17the LORD spoke to me, saying,
18“You are to pass over Ar, the border of Moab, today.
19When you come near the border of the children of Ammon, don’t bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you any of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession, because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.”
20(That also is considered a land of Rephaim. Rephaim lived there in the past, but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim,
21a great people, many, and tall, as the Anakim; but the LORD destroyed them from before Israel, and they succeeded them, and lived in their place,
22as he did for the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day.
23Then the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza: the Caphtorim, who came out of Caphtor, destroyed them and lived in their place.)
24“Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon. Behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.
25Today I will begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you.”
26I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
27“Let me pass through your land. I will go along by the highway. I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left.
28You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink. Just let me pass through on my feet,
29as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me, until I pass over the Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us.”
30But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him, for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as it is today.
31The LORD said to me, “Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you. Begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.”
32Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz.
33The LORD our God delivered him up before us; and we struck him, his sons, and all his people.
34We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones. We left no one remaining.
35Only the livestock we took for plunder for ourselves, with the plunder of the cities which we had taken.
36From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us. The LORD our God delivered up all before us.
37Only to the land of the children of Ammon you didn’t come near: all the banks of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill country, and wherever the LORD our God forbade us.
