1Voici les paroles de l'alliance que le SEIGNEUR ordonna à Moïse de conclure avec les enfants d'Israël au pays de Moab, en plus de l'alliance qu'il avait conclue avec eux à Horeb.
2Moïse convoqua tout Israël et leur dit : Vos yeux ont vu tout ce que le SEIGNEUR a fait au pays d'Égypte au pharaon, à tous ses serviteurs et à tout son pays ;
3les grandes épreuves que vos yeux ont vues, les signes et ces grands prodiges.
4Mais jusqu'à ce jour, le SEIGNEUR ne vous a pas donné un cœur pour comprendre, des yeux pour voir et des oreilles pour entendre.
5Je vous ai conduits pendant quarante ans dans le désert. Vos vêtements ne se sont pas usés sur vous, et vos sandales ne se sont pas usées à vos pieds.
6Vous n'avez pas mangé de pain, et vous n'avez bu ni vin ni liqueur forte, afin que vous sachiez que je suis le SEIGNEUR, votre Dieu.
7Lorsque vous êtes arrivés dans ce lieu, Sihon, roi de Hesbon, et Og, roi de Basan, sont sortis à notre rencontre pour nous combattre, et nous les avons battus.
8Nous avons pris leur pays et nous l'avons donné en héritage aux Rubénites, aux Gadites et à la demi-tribu des Manassites.
9Observez donc les paroles de cette alliance et mettez-les en pratique, afin de réussir dans tout ce que vous ferez.
10Vous vous tenez tous aujourd'hui en présence du SEIGNEUR, votre Dieu : vos chefs, vos tribus, vos anciens, vos officiers, et tous les hommes d'Israël,
11vos enfants, vos femmes, et l'étranger qui est au milieu de vos camps, depuis celui qui coupe votre bois jusqu'à celui qui puise votre eau,
12afin d'entrer dans l'alliance du SEIGNEUR, votre Dieu, et dans son serment, que le SEIGNEUR, votre Dieu, conclut avec vous aujourd'hui,
13afin de vous établir aujourd'hui pour son peuple et d'être votre Dieu, comme il vous l'a dit, et comme il l'a juré à vos pères, à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob.
14Ce n'est pas avec vous seuls que je conclus cette alliance et ce serment,
15mais c'est avec ceux qui se tiennent ici avec nous aujourd'hui devant le SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu, et aussi avec ceux qui ne sont pas ici avec nous aujourd'hui
16(car vous savez comment nous avons habité au pays d'Égypte, et comment nous avons traversé le milieu des nations par lesquelles vous êtes passés ;
17et vous avez vu leurs abominations et leurs idoles de bois, de pierre, d'argent et d'or, qui sont parmi elles) ;
18Qu'il n'y ait parmi vous ni homme, ni femme, ni famille, ni tribu, dont le cœur se détourne aujourd'hui du SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu, pour aller servir les dieux de ces nations. Qu'il n'y ait parmi vous aucune racine qui produise un poison amer.
19Si quelqu'un, après avoir entendu les paroles de cette malédiction, se flatte dans son cœur en disant : « J'aurai la paix, même si je marche dans l'obstination de mon cœur », détruisant ainsi la terre arrosée avec la terre aride.
20Le SEIGNEUR ne lui pardonnera pas. Au contraire, la colère et la jalousie du SEIGNEUR s'enflammeront contre cet homme, et toutes les malédictions écrites dans ce livre s'abattront sur lui, et le SEIGNEUR effacera son nom de dessous le ciel.
21Le SEIGNEUR le mettra à part de toutes les tribus d'Israël pour son malheur, conformément à toutes les malédictions de l'alliance écrites dans ce livre de la loi.
22La génération à venir, vos enfants qui se lèveront après vous, et l'étranger qui viendra d'un pays lointain, diront, en voyant les fléaux de ce pays et les maladies dont le SEIGNEUR l'aura frappé,
23que toute sa terre n'est que soufre, sel et embrasement ; qu'elle n'est pas ensemencée, qu'elle ne produit rien, et qu'aucune herbe n'y pousse, comme lors de la destruction de Sodome, de Gomorrhe, d'Adma et de Tseboïm, que le SEIGNEUR a détruites dans sa colère et dans sa fureur.
24Toutes les nations diront : « Pourquoi le SEIGNEUR a-t-il fait cela à ce pays ? Que signifie l'ardeur de cette grande colère ? »
25Alors on répondra : « C'est parce qu'ils ont abandonné l'alliance du SEIGNEUR, le Dieu de leurs pères, qu'il a conclue avec eux lorsqu'il les a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte.
26Ils sont allés servir d'autres dieux et se sont prosternés devant eux, des dieux qu'ils ne connaissaient pas et qu'il ne leur avait pas donnés en partage.
27C'est pourquoi la colère du SEIGNEUR s'est enflammée contre ce pays, pour faire venir sur lui toutes les malédictions écrites dans ce livre.
28Le SEIGNEUR les a arrachés de leur pays avec colère, avec fureur et avec une grande indignation, et il les a jetés dans un autre pays, comme on le voit aujourd'hui. »
29Les choses cachées appartiennent au SEIGNEUR, notre Dieu ; mais les choses révélées sont pour nous et pour nos enfants à toujours, afin que nous mettions en pratique toutes les paroles de cette loi.

1ESTAS son las palabras del pacto que Jehová mandó á Moisés concertara con los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Moab, además del pacto que concertó con ellos en Horeb.
2Moisés pues llamó á todo Israel, y díjoles: Vosotros habéis visto todo lo que Jehová ha hecho delante de vuestros ojos en la tierra de Egipto á Faraón y á todos sus siervos, y á toda su tierra:
3Las pruebas grandes que vieron tus ojos, las señales, y las grandes maravillas.
4Y Jehová no os dió corazón para entender, ni ojos para ver, ni oídos para oir, hasta el día de hoy.
5Y yo os he traído cuarenta años por el desierto: vuestros vestidos no se han envejecido sobre vosotros, ni tu zapato se ha envejecido sobre tu pie.
6No habéis comido pan, ni bebisteis vino ni sidra: para que supieseis que yo soy Jehová vuestro Dios.
7Y llegasteis á este lugar, y salió Sehón rey de Hesbón, y Og rey de Basán, delante de nosotros para pelear, y herímoslos;
8Y tomamos su tierra, y dímosla por heredad á Rubén y á Gad, y á la media tribu de Manasés.
9Guardaréis, pues, las palabras de este pacto, y las pondréis por obra, para que prosperéis en todo lo que hiciereis.
10Vosotros todos estáis hoy delante de Jehová vuestro Dios; vuestros príncipes de vuestras tribus, vuestros ancianos, y vuestros oficiales, todos los varones de Israel,
11Vuestros niños, vuestras mujeres, y tus extranjeros que habitan en medio de tu campo, desde el que corta tu leña hasta el que saca tus aguas:
12Para que entres en el pacto de Jehová tu Dios, y en su juramento, que Jehová tu Dios acuerda hoy contigo:
13Para confirmarte hoy por su pueblo, y que él te sea á ti por Dios, de la manera que él te ha dicho, y como él juró á tus padres Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob.
14Y no con vosotros solos acuerdo yo este pacto y este juramento,
15Sino con los que están aquí presentes hoy con nosotros delante de Jehová nuestro Dios, y con los que no están aquí hoy con nosotros.
16Porque vosotros sabéis cómo habitamos en la tierra de Egipto, y cómo hemos pasado por medio de las gentes que habéis pasado;
17Y habéis visto sus abominaciones, y sus ídolos, madera y piedra, plata y oro, que tienen consigo.
18Quizá habrá entre vosotros varón, ó mujer, ó familia, ó tribu, cuyo corazón se vuelva hoy de con Jehová nuestro Dios, por andar á servir á los dioses de aquellas gentes; quizá habrá en vosotros raíz que eche veneno y ajenjo;
19Y sea que, cuando el tal oyere las palabras de esta maldición, él se bendiga en su corazón, diciendo: Tendré paz, aunque ande según el pensamiento de mi corazón, para añadir la embriaguez á la sed:
20Jehová no querrá perdonarle; antes humeará luego el furor de Jehová y su celo sobre el tal hombre, y asentaráse sobre él toda maldición escrita en este libro, y Jehová raerá su nombre de debajo del cielo:
21Y apartarálo Jehová de todas las tribus de Israel para mal, conforme á todas las maldiciones del pacto escrito en este libro de la ley.
22Y dirá la generación venidera, vuestros hijos que vendrán después de vosotros, y el extranjero que vendrá de lejanas tierras, cuando vieren las plagas de aquesta tierra, y sus enfermedades de que Jehová la hizo enfermar,
23(Azufre y sal, abrasada toda su tierra: no será sembrada, ni producirá, ni crecerá en ella hierba ninguna, como en la subversión de Sodoma y de Gomorra, de Adma y de Seboim, que Jehová subvirtió en su furor y en su ira:)
24Dirán, pues, todas las gentes: ¿Por qué hizo Jehová esto á esta tierra? ¿qué ira es ésta de tan gran furor?
25Y responderán: Por cuanto dejaron el pacto de Jehová el Dios de sus padres, que él concertó con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto,
26Y fueron y sirvieron á dioses ajenos, é inclináronse á ellos, dioses que no conocían, y que ninguna cosa les habían dado:
27Encendióse por tanto, el furor de Jehová contra esta tierra, para traer sobre ella todas las maldiciones escritas en este libro;
28Y Jehová los desarraigó de su tierra con enojo, y con saña, y con furor grande, y los echó á otra tierra, como hoy.
29Las cosas secretas pertenecen á Jehová nuestro Dios: mas las reveladas son para nosotros y para nuestros hijos por siempre, para que cumplamos todas las palabras de esta ley.

1These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
2And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;
3The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles:
4Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
5And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.
6Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.
7And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them:
8And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh.
9Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
10Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel,
11Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water:
12That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:
13That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
14Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;
15But with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:
16(For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;
17And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)
18Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
19And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
20The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.
21And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law:
22So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;
23And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
24Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?
25Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:
26For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them:
27And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book:
28And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.
29The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

14Neither do I make this covenant and this oath with you only,

17and you have seen their abominations and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which were among them);
18lest there should be among you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that produces bitter poison;
19and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart,” to destroy the moist with the dry.
20The LORD will not pardon him, but then the LORD’s anger and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book will fall on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under the sky.
21The LORD will set him apart for evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this book of the law.
22The generation to come—your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far land—will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which the LORD has made it sick,
23that all of its land is sulfur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, doesn’t produce, nor does any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath.
24Even all the nations will say, “Why has the LORD done this to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?”
25Then men will say, “Because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
26and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they didn’t know and that he had not given to them.
27Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book.
28The LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them into another land, as it is today.”
