1Voici les termes de l'alliance que l'Éternel ordonna à Moïse de conclure avec les enfants d'Israël dans le pays de Moab, outre l'alliance qu'il avait conclue avec eux en Horeb.
2Et Moïse convoqua tous les Israélites et il leur dit :Vous avez vu tout ce qu'a fait l'Éternel sous tes yeux dans le pays d'Egypte à Pharaon et à tous ses serviteurs et à tout son pays,
3les grandes épreuves que vos yeux ont vues, ces grands signes et prodiges.
4Mais jusques aujourd'hui l'Éternel ne vous a pas donné un cœur pour sentir, des yeux pour voir, des oreilles pour entendre.
5Et pendant quarante ans, je vous ai conduits dans le désert ; vos habits ne se sont point usés sur vous, ni vos sandales à vos pieds ;
6vous n'avez pas mangé de pain et n'avez bu ni vin ni cervoise, afin que vous comprissiez que moi, l'Éternel, je suis votre Dieu.
7Et vous êtes arrivés en ce lieu. Alors, Sihon, roi de Hesbon, et Og, roi de Basan, se sont avancés contre nous pour nous attaquer, et nous les avons battus.
8Et nous nous sommes emparés de leur pays et l'avons donné en propriété aux Rubénites, et aux Gadites et à la demi-Tribu de Manassé.
9Gardez donc les paroles de cette alliance, et pratiquez-les, afin de réussir dans tout ce que vous entreprendrez.
10Vous voilà comparaissant aujourd'hui tous devant l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vos Chefs, vos Tribus, vos Anciens et vos Officiers, tous les hommes d'Israël,
11vos enfants, vos femmes et ton étranger qui est dans ton camp, depuis celui qui coupe ton bois à celui qui puise ton eau,
12pour passer dans l'alliance de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et sous sa sanction que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, solennise avec toi en ce jour,
13pour te constituer aujourd'hui son peuple tandis qu'il sera ton Dieu, comme Il te l'a promis, et comme Il en a fait le serment à tes pères, à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob.
14Et ce n'est pas avec vous seuls que je conclus cette alliance et ce pacte juré,
15c'est avec ceux qui sont ici aujourd'hui comparaissant avec nous devant l'Éternel, notre Dieu, et avec ceux qui ne sont pas ici avec nous aujourd'hui.
16Car vous savez comment nous avons séjourné dans le pays d'Egypte, et comment nous avons passé au milieu des nations que vous avez traversées ;
17et vous avez vu les horreurs de leur culte, et leurs idoles de bois et de pierre, d'argent et d'or qui étaient chez eux.
18Ayez peur qu'il y ait parmi vous homme ou femme ou famille ou Tribu dont le cœur se détourne aujourd'hui de l'Éternel, notre Dieu, pour aller se mettre au service des dieux de ces nations-là ; ayez peur qu'il y ait chez vous quelque racine produisant poison ou absinthe !
19Et dans le cas où, à l'ouïe des termes de cette sanction, quelqu'un se promettrait en son cœur un sort heureux, en disant : Je serai sain et sauf quoique je veuille marcher suivant la malice de mon cœur et en amenant ainsi la ruine du sol abreuvé et du sol altéré,
20l'Éternel ne voudra pas lui pardonner ; mais pour lors le courroux de l'Éternel et sa jalousie s'allumeront contre cet homme-là, et sur lui reposera toute la malédiction consignée dans ce livre-ci, et l'Éternel effacera son nom de dessous les Cieux,
21et l'Éternel le séparera, pour le perdre, de toutes les Tribus d'Israël, suivant toutes les malédictions de l'alliance transcrites dans ce volume de la Loi.
22Et la génération suivante, vos fils qui s'élèveront après vous, et l'étranger venu d'un pays lointain, diront à la vue du désastre de ce pays et des maux que lui aura infligés l'Éternel,
23du soufre et du sel et de l'embrasement de tout son sol qui ne sera plus ensemencé, ne produira plus, où nulle plante ne croîtra, d'un bouleversement pareil à celui de Sodome et de Gomorrhe, d'Adema et de Tseboïm que l'Éternel bouleversa dans sa colère et sa fureur ;
24tous les peuples demanderont : Pourquoi l'Éternel a-t-Il ainsi traité ce pays-là ? pourquoi l'embrasement de cette grande colère ?
25Et l'on répondra : Parce qu'ils ont abandonné l'alliance de l'Éternel, Dieu de leurs pères, qu'il avait conclue avec eux, lorsqu'il les retira du pays d'Egypte,
26et ils sont allés se mettre au service d'autres dieux et les adorer, dieux qu'ils ne connaissaient pas, et qu'il ne leur avait pas donnés en partage ;
27c'est alors que la colère de l'Éternel s'est allumée contre ce pays pour faire fondre sur lui toutes les malédictions consignées dans ce livre,
28et l'Éternel les a arrachés de leur pays avec courroux, colère et grande irritation et les a jetés dans un autre pays comme il arrive aujourd'hui.
29Les choses cachées sont à l'Éternel, notre Dieu, mais les choses révélées sont à nous et à nos enfants à perpétuité pour que nous mettions en pratique toutes les paroles de cette Loi.

1ESTAS son las palabras del pacto que Jehová mandó á Moisés concertara con los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Moab, además del pacto que concertó con ellos en Horeb.
2Moisés pues llamó á todo Israel, y díjoles: Vosotros habéis visto todo lo que Jehová ha hecho delante de vuestros ojos en la tierra de Egipto á Faraón y á todos sus siervos, y á toda su tierra:
3Las pruebas grandes que vieron tus ojos, las señales, y las grandes maravillas.
4Y Jehová no os dió corazón para entender, ni ojos para ver, ni oídos para oir, hasta el día de hoy.
5Y yo os he traído cuarenta años por el desierto: vuestros vestidos no se han envejecido sobre vosotros, ni tu zapato se ha envejecido sobre tu pie.
6No habéis comido pan, ni bebisteis vino ni sidra: para que supieseis que yo soy Jehová vuestro Dios.
7Y llegasteis á este lugar, y salió Sehón rey de Hesbón, y Og rey de Basán, delante de nosotros para pelear, y herímoslos;
8Y tomamos su tierra, y dímosla por heredad á Rubén y á Gad, y á la media tribu de Manasés.
9Guardaréis, pues, las palabras de este pacto, y las pondréis por obra, para que prosperéis en todo lo que hiciereis.
10Vosotros todos estáis hoy delante de Jehová vuestro Dios; vuestros príncipes de vuestras tribus, vuestros ancianos, y vuestros oficiales, todos los varones de Israel,
11Vuestros niños, vuestras mujeres, y tus extranjeros que habitan en medio de tu campo, desde el que corta tu leña hasta el que saca tus aguas:
12Para que entres en el pacto de Jehová tu Dios, y en su juramento, que Jehová tu Dios acuerda hoy contigo:
13Para confirmarte hoy por su pueblo, y que él te sea á ti por Dios, de la manera que él te ha dicho, y como él juró á tus padres Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob.
14Y no con vosotros solos acuerdo yo este pacto y este juramento,
15Sino con los que están aquí presentes hoy con nosotros delante de Jehová nuestro Dios, y con los que no están aquí hoy con nosotros.
16Porque vosotros sabéis cómo habitamos en la tierra de Egipto, y cómo hemos pasado por medio de las gentes que habéis pasado;
17Y habéis visto sus abominaciones, y sus ídolos, madera y piedra, plata y oro, que tienen consigo.
18Quizá habrá entre vosotros varón, ó mujer, ó familia, ó tribu, cuyo corazón se vuelva hoy de con Jehová nuestro Dios, por andar á servir á los dioses de aquellas gentes; quizá habrá en vosotros raíz que eche veneno y ajenjo;
19Y sea que, cuando el tal oyere las palabras de esta maldición, él se bendiga en su corazón, diciendo: Tendré paz, aunque ande según el pensamiento de mi corazón, para añadir la embriaguez á la sed:
20Jehová no querrá perdonarle; antes humeará luego el furor de Jehová y su celo sobre el tal hombre, y asentaráse sobre él toda maldición escrita en este libro, y Jehová raerá su nombre de debajo del cielo:
21Y apartarálo Jehová de todas las tribus de Israel para mal, conforme á todas las maldiciones del pacto escrito en este libro de la ley.
22Y dirá la generación venidera, vuestros hijos que vendrán después de vosotros, y el extranjero que vendrá de lejanas tierras, cuando vieren las plagas de aquesta tierra, y sus enfermedades de que Jehová la hizo enfermar,
23(Azufre y sal, abrasada toda su tierra: no será sembrada, ni producirá, ni crecerá en ella hierba ninguna, como en la subversión de Sodoma y de Gomorra, de Adma y de Seboim, que Jehová subvirtió en su furor y en su ira:)
24Dirán, pues, todas las gentes: ¿Por qué hizo Jehová esto á esta tierra? ¿qué ira es ésta de tan gran furor?
25Y responderán: Por cuanto dejaron el pacto de Jehová el Dios de sus padres, que él concertó con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto,
26Y fueron y sirvieron á dioses ajenos, é inclináronse á ellos, dioses que no conocían, y que ninguna cosa les habían dado:
27Encendióse por tanto, el furor de Jehová contra esta tierra, para traer sobre ella todas las maldiciones escritas en este libro;
28Y Jehová los desarraigó de su tierra con enojo, y con saña, y con furor grande, y los echó á otra tierra, como hoy.
29Las cosas secretas pertenecen á Jehová nuestro Dios: mas las reveladas son para nosotros y para nuestros hijos por siempre, para que cumplamos todas las palabras de esta ley.

1These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
2And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;
3The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles:
4Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
5And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.
6Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.
7And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them:
8And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of Manasseh.
9Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
10Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your captains of your tribes, your elders, and your officers, with all the men of Israel,
11Your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in thy camp, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water:
12That thou shouldest enter into covenant with the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:
13That he may establish thee to day for a people unto himself, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he hath said unto thee, and as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
14Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;
15But with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:
16(For ye know how we have dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the nations which ye passed by;
17And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them:)
18Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
19And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:
20The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.
21And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law:
22So that the generation to come of your children that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it;
23And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
24Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?
25Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt:
26For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them:
27And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book:
28And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.
29The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

14Neither do I make this covenant and this oath with you only,
15but with those who stand here with us today before the LORD our God, and also with those who are not here with us today
16(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the middle of the nations through which you passed;
17and you have seen their abominations and their idols of wood, stone, silver, and gold, which were among them);
18lest there should be among you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that produces bitter poison;
19and it happen, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, “I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart,” to destroy the moist with the dry.
20The LORD will not pardon him, but then the LORD’s anger and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book will fall on him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under the sky.
21The LORD will set him apart for evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this book of the law.
22The generation to come—your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far land—will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which the LORD has made it sick,
23that all of its land is sulfur, salt, and burning, that it is not sown, doesn’t produce, nor does any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath.
24Even all the nations will say, “Why has the LORD done this to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?”
25Then men will say, “Because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt,
26and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they didn’t know and that he had not given to them.
27Therefore the LORD’s anger burned against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book.
28The LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and thrust them into another land, as it is today.”
