19Wenn du eine Stadt viele Tage belagerst, so daß du wider sie streitest, um sie zu gewinnen, so sollst du ihre Bäume nicht verderben, daß du mit der Axt dagegen ausholst; denn du kannst davon essen, und darum sollst du sie nicht ausrotten; ist denn der Baum des Feldes ein Mensch, daß er vor dir in Belagerung komme?

19Cuando pusieres cerco á alguna ciudad, peleando contra ella muchos días para tomarla, no destruyas su arboleda metiendo en ella hacha, porque de ella comerás; y no la talarás, que no es hombre el árbol del campo para venir contra ti en el cerco.

19When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege:

19When you shall besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by wielding an ax against them; for you may eat of them. You shall not cut them down, for is the tree of the field man, that it should be besieged by you?
