1DIES sind die Worte, die Mose zu ganz Israel gesprochen hat jenseits des Jordan in der Wüste, in der Araba gegenüber Suph, zwischen Paran und Thophel, Laban, Hazeroth und Disahab.
2Elf Tagereisen sind es vom Horeb bis Kades-Barnea auf dem Wege nach dem Gebirge Seir.
3Und es geschah im vierzigsten Jahre, am ersten Tage des elften Monats, da redete Mose zu den Israeliten, ganz wie ihm der Herr für sie geboten,
4nachdem er Sihon, den König der Amoriter, der zu Hesbon wohnte, und den König Og von Basan, der zu Astharoth wohnte, bei Edrei geschlagen hatte. (a) 4Mo 21:24
5Jenseits des Jordan, im Lande Moab, hob Mose an, diese Weisung darzulegen:
6Der Herr, unser Gott, hat am Horeb also zu uns gesprochen: "Lange genug habt ihr an diesem Berge verweilt.
7Wendet euch nun und brechet auf, und ziehet nach dem Gebirge der Amoriter und zu allen ihren Nachbarn in der Araba, auf dem Gebirge, in der Niederung, im Südland und am Gestade des Meeres, in das Land der Kanaaniter und zum Libanon, bis an den grossen Strom, den Euphratstrom. (a) 2Mo 33:1
8Seht, ich übergebe euch das Land; gehet hinein und nehmet das Land in Besitz, von dem ich euren Vätern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geschworen habe, dass ich es ihnen und ihren Nachkommen geben wolle." (a) 1Mo 15:18
9Und ich sprach damals zu euch: "Ich vermag (die Sorge für) euch nicht allein zu tragen. (a) 2Mo 18:18; 4Mo 11:12
10Der Herr, euer Gott, hat euch gemehrt; seht, ihr seid heute schon so zahlreich wie die Sterne des Himmels. (a) 1Mo 15:5; 5Mo 10:22
11Der Herr, der Gott eurer Väter, mache euch noch tausendmal zahlreicher und segne euch, wie er euch verheissen hat!
12Wie kann ich da allein die Last und Bürde eurer Streitigkeiten tragen?
13Bringet weise, verständige und einsichtige Männer her aus jedem eurer Stämme; die will ich an eure Spitze stellen."
14Da gabt ihr mir zur Antwort: "Gut ist, was du vorhast."
15Und ich nahm die Häupter eurer Stämme, weise und einsichtige Männer, und setzte sie zu Häuptern über euch, als Oberste über Tausend, über Hundert, über Fünfzig und über Zehn, und als Amtleute, für jeden eurer Stämme.
16Und ich gebot euren Richtern zu derselben Zeit: "Höret eure Volksgenossen an und richtet gerecht in der Sache, die einer mit einem Volksgenossen oder einem Fremdling hat.
17Ihr sollt kein Ansehen der Person kennen im Gerichte; den Kleinen sollt ihr hören wie den Grossen und euch vor niemand scheuen, denn das Gericht ist Gottes. Ist aber eine Sache euch zu schwer, so lasset sie an mich gelangen, dass ich sie höre." (a) 3Mo 19:15; 5Mo 16:19; 2Mo 18:22
18Und ich gebot euch zu derselben Zeit alles, was ihr tun sollt.
19Dann brachen wir vom Horeb auf und wanderten durch jene ganze grosse und furchtbare Wüste, die ihr gesehen habt, auf dem Wege nach dem Gebirge der Amoriter, wie uns der Herr, unser Gott, geboten hatte, und kamen bis Kades-Barnea.
20Da sprach ich zu euch: "Ihr seid nun beim Gebirge der Amoriter angekommen, das uns der Herr, unser Gott, geben will.
21Siehe, der Herr, dein Gott, übergibt dir dieses Land; ziehe hinauf und nimm es in Besitz, wie der Herr, der Gott deiner Väter, dir verheissen hat. Fürchte dich nicht und sei unverzagt!"
22Da tratet ihr alle zu mir und spracht: "Lass uns Männer vor uns her senden; die sollen uns das Land durchspähen und uns Bericht bringen über den Weg, den wir ziehen müssen, und über die Städte, dahin wir kommen werden." (a) 4Mo 13
23Das gefiel mir wohl, und ich nahm aus euch zwölf Männer, aus jedem Stamme einen.
24Die gingen hinweg und zogen hinauf auf das Gebirge und kamen bis ins Tal Eskol und durchspähten das Land;
25und sie nahmen von den Früchten des Landes mit sich und brachten sie herab zu uns und gaben uns Bericht und sprachen: "Das Land ist schön, das der Herr, unser Gott, uns geben will."
26Aber ihr wolltet nicht hinaufziehen und waret widerspenstig gegen den Befehl des Herrn, eures Gottes; (a) 4Mo 14
27ihr murrtet in euren Zelten und spracht: "Aus Hass hat uns der Herr aus dem Lande Ägypten herausgeführt, dass er uns in die Hand der Amoriter gebe, um uns zu vernichten.
28Wohin ziehen wir? Unsre Brüder haben unser Herz verzagt gemacht, da sie sagten: Ein Volk, grösser und zahlreicher als wir, und grosse Städte, die himmelhoch befestigt sind, und auch Enakiter haben wir daselbst gesehen." (a) 5Mo 9:1 2
29Ich aber sprach zu euch: "Lasst euch nicht grauen und fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen!
30Der Herr, euer Gott, der vor euch her zieht, er wird für euch streiten, ganz wie er euch sichtbar in Ägypten geholfen hat
31und in der Wüste, die du gesehen hast, wo dich der Herr, dein Gott, getragen hat, wie einer sein Kind trägt, auf dem ganzen Wege, den ihr gewandert, bis ihr an diesen Ort gekommen seid."
32Trotzdem vertrautet ihr nicht auf den Herrn, euren Gott,
33der vor euch her ging auf dem Wege, euch die Stätte zu weisen, wo ihr lagern solltet: bei Nacht im Feuer, auf dass ihr sehen könntet auf dem Wege, den ihr gehen solltet, und bei Tage in der Wolke. (a) 2Mo 13:21
34Als aber der Herr euer Reden hörte, ergrimmte er und schwur:
35"Keiner von diesen Männern, diesem bösen Geschlecht, soll das schöne Land sehen, das ich ihren Vätern zu geben geschworen habe, (a) 4Mo 14:23
36ausser Kaleb, dem Sohne Jephunnes; der soll es sehen, und ihm und seinen Kindern will ich das Land, das er betreten, geben, weil er unwandelbar zum Herrn gehalten hat."
37Auch über mich ward der Herr zornig um euretwillen, und er sprach: "Du sollst auch nicht dorthin kommen. (a) 4Mo 20:12
38Josua, der Sohn Nuns, der dein Diener ist, er soll dorthin kommen; ihn ermutige, denn er soll es Israel zu eigen geben. (1) d.h. das Land. (2) V. 38-39: 4Mo 14:30 31
39Eure Kleinen aber, von denen ihr sagtet, sie würden zur Beute werden, und eure Kinder, die heute noch nicht wissen, was gut und böse ist, die sollen dorthin kommen; ihnen will ich es geben, und sie sollen es zu eigen bekommen.
40Ihr aber, kehret um und ziehet in die Wüste auf dem Wege nach dem Schilfmeer."
41Da gabt ihr mir zur Antwort: "Wir haben wider den Herrn gesündigt; wir wollen hinaufziehen und streiten, ganz wie uns der Herr, unser Gott, geboten hat." Dann umgürtete sich ein jeder unter euch mit seinen Kriegswaffen, und es schien euch ein leichtes, hinaufzuziehen ins Gebirge.
42Da sprach der Herr zu mir: "Sage ihnen: Zieht nicht hinauf in den Kampf - denn ich bin nicht unter euch -, sonst werdet ihr von euren Feinden geschlagen."
43Und ich redete mit euch, doch ihr hörtet nicht und waret widerspenstig gegen den Befehl des Herrn, und vermessen zogt ihr hinauf auf das Gebirge.
44Da rückten die Amoriter, die dort auf dem Gebirge wohnten, euch entgegen und jagten euch nach, wie die Bienen tun, und zersprengten euch von Seir bis gen Horma.
45Als ihr nun zurückkamt, da weintet ihr vor dem Herrn; doch der Herr hörte nicht auf eure Klage und neigte sein Ohr nicht zu euch.
46So bliebet ihr in Kades eine lange Zeit - solang ihr eben bliebet.

1ESTAS son las palabras que habló Moisés á todo Israel de esta parte del Jordán en el desierto, en el llano delante del mar Bermejo, entre Parán, y Thopel, y Labán, y Haseroth, y Dizahab.
2Once jornadas hay desde Horeb, camino del monte de Seir, hasta Cades-barnea.
3Y fué, que á los cuarenta años, en el mes undécimo, al primero del mes, Moisés habló á los hijos de Israel conforme á todas las cosas que Jehová le había mandado acerca de ellos;
4Después que hirió á Sehón rey de los Amorrheos, que habitaba en Hesbón, y á Og rey de Basán, que habitaba en Astarot en Edrei:
5De esta parte del Jordán, en tierra de Moab, resolvió Moisés declarar esta ley, diciendo:
6Jehová nuestro Dios nos habló en Horeb, diciendo: Harto habéis estado en este monte;
7Volveos, partíos é id al monte del Amorrheo, y á todas sus comarcas, en el llano, en el monte, y en los valles, y al mediodía, y á la costa de la mar, á la tierra del Cananeo, y el Líbano, hasta el gran río, el río Eufrates.
8Mirad, yo he dado la tierra en vuestra presencia; entrad y poseed la tierra que Jehová juró á vuestros padres Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob, que les daría á ellos y á su simiente después de ellos.
9Y yo os hablé entonces, diciendo: Yo no puedo llevaros solo:
10Jehová vuestro Dios os ha multiplicado, y he aquí sois hoy vosotros como las estrellas del cielo en multitud.
11¡Jehová Dios de vuestros padres añada sobre vosotros como sois mil veces, y os bendiga, como os ha prometido!
12¿Cómo llevaré yo solo vuestras molestias, vuestras cargas, y vuestros pleitos?
13Dadme de entre vosotros, de vuestras tribus, varones sabios y entendidos y expertos, para que yo los ponga por vuestros jefes.
14Y me respondisteis, y dijisteis: Bueno es hacer lo que has dicho.
15Y tomé los principales de vuestras tribus, varones sabios y expertos, y púselos por jefes sobre vosotros, jefes de millares, y jefes de cientos, y jefes de cincuenta, y cabos de diez, y gobernadores á vuestras tribus.
16Y entonces mandé á vuestros jueces, diciendo: Oid entre vuestros hermanos, y juzgad justamente entre el hombre y su hermano, y el que le es extranjero.
17No tengáis respeto de personas en el juicio: así al pequeño como al grande oiréis: no tendréis temor de ninguno, porque el juicio es de Dios: y la causa que os fuere difícil, la traeréis á mí, y yo la oiré.
18Os mandé, pues, en aquel tiempo todo lo que habíais de hacer.
19Y partidos de Horeb, anduvimos todo aquel grande y terrible desierto que habéis visto, por el camino del monte del Amorrheo, como Jehová nuestro Dios nos lo mandó; y llegamos hasta Cades-barnea.
20Entonces os dije: Llegado habéis al monte del Amorrheo, el cual Jehová nuestro Dios nos da.
21Mira, Jehová tu Dios ha dado delante de ti la tierra: sube y poséela, como Jehová el Dios de tus padres te ha dicho; no temas ni desmayes.
22Y llegasteis á mí todos vosotros, y dijisteis: Enviemos varones delante de nosotros, que nos reconozcan la tierra y nos traigan de vuelta razón del camino por donde hemos de subir, y de las ciudades adonde hemos de llegar.
23Y el dicho me pareció bien: y tomé doce varones de vosotros, un varón por tribu:
24Y se encaminaron, y subieron al monte, y llegaron hasta la arroyada de Escol, y reconocieron la tierra.
25Y tomaron en sus manos del fruto del país, y nos lo trajeron, y diéronnos cuenta, y dijeron: Es buena la tierra que Jehová nuestro Dios nos da.
26Empero no quisisteis subir, antes fuisteis rebeldes al dicho de Jehová vuestro Dios;
27Y murmurasteis en vuestras tiendas, diciendo: Porque Jehová nos aborrecía, nos ha sacado de tierra de Egipto, para entregarnos en mano del Amorrheo para destruirnos.
28¿A dónde subimos? Nuestros hermanos han hecho desfallecer nuestro corazón, diciendo: Este pueblo es mayor y más alto que nosotros, las ciudades grandes y muradas hasta el cielo; y también vimos allí hijos de gigantes.
29Entonces os dije: No temáis, ni tengáis miedo de ellos.
30Jehová vuestro Dios, el cual va delante de vosotros, él peleará por vosotros, conforme á todas las cosas que hizo por vosotros en Egipto delante de vuestros ojos;
31Y en el desierto has visto que Jehová tu Dios te ha traído, como trae el hombre á su hijo, por todo el camino que habéis andado, hasta que habéis venido á este lugar.
32Y aun con esto no creisteis en Jehová vuestro Dios,
33El cual iba delante de vosotros por el camino, para reconoceros el lugar donde habíais de asentar el campo, con fuego de noche para mostraros el camino por donde anduvieseis, y con nube de día.
34Y oyó Jehová la voz de vuestras palabras, y enojóse, y juró diciendo:
35No verá hombre alguno de estos de esta mala generación, la buena tierra que juré había de dar á vuestros padres,
36Excepto Caleb hijo de Jephone: él la verá, y á él le daré la tierra que pisó, y á sus hijos; porque cumplió en pos de Jehová.
37Y también contra mí se airó Jehová por vosotros, diciendo: Tampoco tú entrarás allá:
38Josué hijo de Nun, que está delante de ti, él entrará allá: anímale; porque él la hará heredar á Israel.
39Y vuestros chiquitos, de los cuales dijisteis serán por presa, y vuestros hijos que no saben hoy bueno ni malo, ellos entrarán allá, y á ellos la daré, y ellos la heredarán.
40Y vosotros volveos, y partíos al desierto camino del mar Bermejo.
41Entonces respondisteis y me dijisteis: Pecado hemos contra Jehová; nosotros subiremos y pelearemos, conforme á todo lo que Jehová nuestro Dios nos ha mandado. Y os armasteis cada uno de sus armas de guerra, y os apercibisteis para subir al monte.
42Y Jehová me dijo: Diles: No subáis, ni peleéis, pues no estoy entre vosotros; porque no seáis heridos delante de vuestros enemigos.
43Y os hablé, y no disteis oído; antes fuisteis rebeldes al dicho de Jehová, y persistiendo con altivez, subisteis al monte.
44Y salió el Amorrheo, que habitaba en aquel monte, á vuestro encuentro, y os persiguieron, como hacen las avispas, y os derrotaron en Seir, persiguiéndoos hasta Horma.
45Y volvisteis, y llorasteis delante de Jehová; pero Jehová no escuchó vuestra voz, ni os prestó oído.
46Y estuvisteis en Cades por muchos días, como en los días que habéis estado.

1These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
2(There are eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of mount Seir unto Kadesh-barnea.)
3And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spake unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them;
4After he had slain Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, which dwelt at Astaroth in Edrei:
5On this side Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,
6The LORD our God spake unto us in Horeb, saying, Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount:
7Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates.
8Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.
9And I spake unto you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear you myself alone:
10The LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.
11(The LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as he hath promised you!)
12How can I myself alone bear your cumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?
13Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.
14And ye answered me, and said, The thing which thou hast spoken is good for us to do.
15So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes.
16And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him.
17Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.
18And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.
19And when we departed from Horeb, we went through all that great and terrible wilderness, which ye saw by the way of the mountain of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh-barnea.
20And I said unto you, Ye are come unto the mountain of the Amorites, which the LORD our God doth give unto us.
21Behold, the LORD thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.
22And ye came near unto me every one of you, and said, We will send men before us, and they shall search us out the land, and bring us word again by what way we must go up, and into what cities we shall come.
23And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe:
24And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out.
25And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God doth give us.
26Notwithstanding ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God:
27And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.
28Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there.
29Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them.
30The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;
31And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.
32Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God,
33Who went in the way before you, to search you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to shew you by what way ye should go, and in a cloud by day.
34And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and sware, saying,
35Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers,
36Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children, because he hath wholly followed the LORD.
37Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou also shalt not go in thither.
38But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
39Moreover your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, and your children, which in that day had no knowledge between good and evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it.
40But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
41Then ye answered and said unto me, We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us. And when ye had girded on every man his weapons of war, ye were ready to go up into the hill.
42And the LORD said unto me, Say unto them, Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.
43So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill.
44And the Amorites, which dwelt in that mountain, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and destroyed you in Seir, even unto Hormah.
45And ye returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD would not hearken to your voice, nor give ear unto you.
46So ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode there.

1These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan in the wilderness, in the Arabah opposite Suf, between Paran, Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Dizahab.
2It is eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh Barnea.
3In the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, Moses spoke to the children of Israel according to all that the LORD had given him in commandment to them,
4after he had struck Sihon the king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan who lived in Ashtaroth, at Edrei.
5Beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses began to declare this law, saying,
6“The LORD our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying, ‘You have lived long enough at this mountain.
7Turn, and take your journey, and go to the hill country of the Amorites and to all the places near there: in the Arabah, in the hill country, in the lowland, in the South, by the seashore, in the land of the Canaanites, and in Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.
8Behold, I have set the land before you. Go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to your fathers—to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob—to give to them and to their offspring after them.’”
9I spoke to you at that time, saying, “I am not able to bear you myself alone.
10The LORD your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are today as the stars of the sky for multitude.
11May the LORD, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are and bless you, as he has promised you!
12How can I myself alone bear your problems, your burdens, and your strife?
13Take wise men of understanding who are respected among your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.”
14You answered me, and said, “The thing which you have spoken is good to do.”
15So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and respected men, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, captains of hundreds, captains of fifties, captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes.
16I commanded your judges at that time, saying, “Hear cases between your brothers and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the foreigner who is living with him.
17You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be afraid of the face of man, for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.”
18I commanded you at that time all the things which you should do.
19We traveled from Horeb and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw, by the way to the hill country of the Amorites, as the LORD our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh Barnea.
20I said to you, “You have come to the hill country of the Amorites, which the LORD our God gives to us.
21Behold, the LORD your God has set the land before you. Go up, take possession, as the LORD the God of your fathers has spoken to you. Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed.”
22You came near to me, everyone of you, and said, “Let’s send men before us, that they may search the land for us, and bring back to us word of the way by which we must go up, and the cities to which we shall come.”
23The thing pleased me well. I took twelve of your men, one man for every tribe.
24They turned and went up into the hill country, and came to the valley of Eshcol, and spied it out.
25They took some of the fruit of the land in their hands and brought it down to us, and brought us word again, and said, “It is a good land which the LORD our God gives to us.”
26Yet you wouldn’t go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God.
27You murmured in your tents, and said, “Because the LORD hated us, he has brought us out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites to destroy us.
28Where are we going up? Our brothers have made our heart melt, saying, ‘The people are greater and taller than we. The cities are great and fortified up to the sky. Moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there!’”
29Then I said to you, “Don’t be terrified. Don’t be afraid of them.
30The LORD your God, who goes before you, he will fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes,
31and in the wilderness where you have seen how that the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went, until you came to this place.”
32Yet in this thing you didn’t believe the LORD your God,
33who went before you on the way, to seek out a place for you to pitch your tents in: in fire by night, to show you by what way you should go, and in the cloud by day.
34The LORD heard the voice of your words and was angry, and swore, saying,
35“Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land which I swore to give to your fathers,
36except Caleb the son of Jephunneh. He shall see it. I will give the land that he has trodden on to him and to his children, because he has wholly followed the LORD.”
37Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, “You also shall not go in there.
38Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, shall go in there. Encourage him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.
39Moreover your little ones, whom you said would be captured or killed, your children, who today have no knowledge of good or evil, shall go in there. I will give it to them, and they shall possess it.
40But as for you, turn, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.”
41Then you answered and said to me, “We have sinned against the LORD. We will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us.” Every man of you put on his weapons of war, and presumed to go up into the hill country.
42The LORD said to me, “Tell them, ‘Don’t go up and don’t fight; for I am not among you, lest you be struck before your enemies.’”
43So I spoke to you, and you didn’t listen; but you rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and were presumptuous, and went up into the hill country.
44The Amorites, who lived in that hill country, came out against you and chased you as bees do, and beat you down in Seir, even to Hormah.
45You returned and wept before the LORD, but the LORD didn’t listen to your voice, nor turn his ear to you.
46So you stayed in Kadesh many days, according to the days that you remained.
