Deuteronomio 19

1Lorsque le Seigneur votre Dieu aura effacé les nations dont il vous donne le territoire, et que vous aurez recueilli leur héritage, vous demeurerez en leurs villes et en leurs maisons.
2Vous séparerez vous-mêmes trois villes au milieu de la terre que le Seigneur vous donne.
3Dispose pour toi la voie, fais trois parts du territoire que le Seigneur ton Dieu te donne en héritage, et que dans chacune il y ait un refuge pour le meurtrier.
4Voici la loi concernant le meurtrier qui s'y sera réfugié : il vivra, s'il a commis un meurtre involontairement, sans aucune haine précédente.
5Celui qui sera entré après son prochain en une forêt de chênes pour y couper du bois, et dont la main, en coupant du bois, aura laissé échapper la hache, de sorte que le fer, se séparant du manche, ait atteint son prochain, et lui ait donné la mort, se réfugiera dans l'une de ces villes, et il vivra.
6De peur que le vengeur du sang, le cœur enflammé ne le poursuive et ne le surprenne, faisant une longue route, et ne le frappe à mort, quoiqu'il ne soit pas condamné à périr, puisqu'il n'avait aucune précédente haine contre le défunt.
7C'est pourquoi je te donne ce commandement, et je dis : Pour toi-même, sépare trois villes.
8Et si le Seigneur ton Dieu dilate tes limites, comme il l'a promis à tes pères, et s'il te donne toute la terre qu'il a promis à tes pères de te donner,
9Si tu écoutes et si tu mets en pratique ces commandements que je t'intime aujourd'hui : d'aimer le Seigneur ton Dieu, de marcher tous les jours en toutes ses voies ; tu ajouteras, de toi-même, trois villes à ces trois villes.
10Et le sang innocent ne sera pas répandu en la terre que le Seigneur te donne pour héritage, et nul chez toi ne sera coupable de ce sang versé.
11Mais, s'il existe chez toi un homme haïssant son prochain, s'il l'a guetté, s'il s'est levé contre lui, s'il l'a frappé à mort ; si l'autre a succombé et si lui-même se réfugie dans l'une de ces villes,
12Les anciens de sa ville enverront après lui, et on l'y saisira, et on le livrera aux mains du vengeur du sang, et il mourra.
13Ton œil ne prendra pas en pitié cet homme, et tu purifieras Israël du sang innocent versé, et tu prospèreras.
14Tu ne déplaceras pas les bornes que tes pères auront posées au lot qui te sera échut en partage en la terre que le Seigneur ton Dieu te donne pour que tu la possèdes.
15Un seul témoin ne suffira pas contre un homme au sujet de quelque iniquité, de quelque faute, de quelque péché que celui-ci aurait commis ; le jugement s'appuiera sur deux ou trois témoignages.
16Et si un témoin inique s'est levé contre un homme, l'accusant d'impiété,
17On amènera les deux hommes, entre lesquels il y aura contestation devant le Seigneur, et devant les prêtres, et devant les juges qu'il y aura en ces jours-là ;
18Les juges examineront avec soin, et s'ils voient que c'est un témoin inique qui s'est levé contre son frère pour porter de faux témoignages,
19Vous lui ferez subir le châtiment qu'il aurait attiré sur son frère, et vous déracinerez le mal parmi vous.
20Ceux qui auraient fait de même auront crainte, et ils ne continueront plus de commettre cette mauvaise action parmi vous.
21Ton œil ne prendra pas en pitié un tel homme : vie pour vie, œil pour œil, dent pour dent, main pour main, pied pour pied.

1CUANDO Jehová tu Dios talare las gentes, cuya tierra Jehová tu Dios te da á ti, y tú las heredares, y habitares en sus ciudades, y en sus casas;
2Te apartarás tres ciudades en medio de tu tierra que Jehová tu Dios te da para que la poseas.
3Arreglarte has el camino, y dividirás en tres partes el término de tu tierra, que Jehová tu Dios te dará en heredad, y será para que todo homicida se huya allí.
4Y este es el caso del homicida que ha de huir allí, y vivirá: el que hiriere á su prójimo por yerro, que no le tenía enemistad desde ayer ni antes de ayer:
5Como el que fué con su prójimo al monte á cortar leña, y poniendo fuerza con su mano en el hacha para cortar algún leño, saltó el hierro del cabo, y encontró á su prójimo, y murió; aquél huirá á una de aquestas ciudades, y vivirá;
6No sea que el pariente del muerto vaya tras el homicida, cuando se enardeciere su corazón, y le alcance por ser largo el camino, y le hiera de muerte, no debiendo ser condenado á muerte; por cuanto no tenía enemistad desde ayer ni antes de ayer con el muerto.
7Por tanto yo te mando, diciendo: Tres ciudades te apartarás.
8Y si Jehová tu Dios ensanchare tu término, como lo juró á tus padres, y te diere toda la tierra que dijo á tus padres que había de dar;
9Cuando guardases todos estos mandamientos, que yo te prescribo hoy, para ponerlos por obra, que ames á Jehová tu Dios y andes en sus caminos todos los días; entonces añadirás tres ciudades á más de estas tres;
10Porque no sea derramada sangre inocente en medio de tu tierra, que Jehová tu Dios te da por heredad, y sea sobre ti sangre.
11Mas cuando hubiere alguno que aborreciere á su prójimo, y lo acechare, y se levantare sobre él, y lo hiriere de muerte, y muriere, y huyere á alguna de estas ciudades;
12Entonces los ancianos de su ciudad enviarán y lo sacarán de allí, y entregarlo han en mano del pariente del muerto, y morirá.
13No le perdonará tu ojo: y quitarás de Israel la sangre inocente, y te irá bien.
14No reducirás el término de tu prójimo, el cual señalaron los antiguos en tu heredad, la que poseyeres en la tierra que Jehová tu Dios te da para que la poseas.
15No valdrá un testigo contra ninguno en cualquier delito, ó en cualquier pecado, en cualquier pecado que se cometiere. En el dicho de dos testigos, ó en el dicho de tres testigos consistirá el negocio.
16Cuando se levantare testigo falso contra alguno, para testificar contra él rebelión,
17Entonces los dos hombres litigantes se presentarán delante de Jehová, delante de los sacerdotes y jueces que fueren en aquellos días:
18Y los jueces inquirirán bien, y si pareciere ser aquél testigo falso, que testificó falsamente contra su hermano,
19Haréis á él como él pensó hacer á su hermano: y quitarás el mal de en medio de ti.
20Y los que quedaren oirán, y temerán, y no volverán más á hacer una mala cosa como ésta, en medio de ti.
21Y no perdonará tu ojo: vida por vida, ojo por ojo, diente por diente, mano por mano, pie por pie.

1When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
2Thou shalt separate three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
3Thou shalt prepare thee a way, and divide the coasts of thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every slayer may flee thither.
4And this is the case of the slayer, which shall flee thither, that he may live: Whoso killeth his neighbour ignorantly, whom he hated not in time past;
5As when a man goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; he shall flee unto one of those cities, and live:
6Lest the avenger of the blood pursue the slayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and slay him; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.
7Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thee.
8And if the LORD thy God enlarge thy coast, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;
9If thou shalt keep all these commandments to do them, which I command thee this day, to love the LORD thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, beside these three:
10That innocent blood be not shed in thy land, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.
11But if any man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and fleeth into one of these cities:
12Then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
13Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the guilt of innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.
14Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.
15One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
16If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;
17Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
18And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;
19Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
20And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
21And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
World English Bible
1When the LORD your God cuts off the nations whose land the LORD your God gives you, and you succeed them and dwell in their cities and in their houses,
2you shall set apart three cities for yourselves in the middle of your land, which the LORD your God gives you to possess.
3You shall prepare the way, and divide the borders of your land which the LORD your God causes you to inherit into three parts, that every man slayer may flee there.
4This is the case of the man slayer who shall flee there and live: Whoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, and didn’t hate him in time past—
5as when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to chop wood and his hand swings the ax to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle and hits his neighbor so that he dies—he shall flee to one of these cities and live.
6Otherwise, the avenger of blood might pursue the man slayer while hot anger is in his heart and overtake him, because the way is long, and strike him mortally, even though he was not worthy of death, because he didn’t hate him in time past.
7Therefore I command you to set apart three cities for yourselves.
8If the LORD your God enlarges your border, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers;
9and if you keep all this commandment to do it, which I command you today, to love the LORD your God, and to walk ever in his ways, then you shall add three cities more for yourselves, in addition to these three.
10This is so that innocent blood will not be shed in the middle of your land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, leaving blood guilt on you.
11But if any man hates his neighbor, lies in wait for him, rises up against him, strikes him mortally so that he dies, and he flees into one of these cities;
12then the elders of his city shall send and bring him there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
13Your eye shall not pity him, but you shall purge the innocent blood from Israel that it may go well with you.
14You shall not remove your neighbor’s landmark, which they of old time have set, in your inheritance which you shall inherit, in the land that the LORD your God gives you to possess.
15One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin that he sins. At the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established.
16If an unrighteous witness rises up against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing,

19then you shall do to him as he had thought to do to his brother. So you shall remove the evil from among you.
20Those who remain shall hear, and fear, and will never again commit any such evil among you.
21Your eyes shall not pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
