Daniel 6

1Et Darius le Mède reçut la royauté à l'âge de soixante-deux ans.
2Il parut bon à Darius de préposer au royaume cent vingt préfets, pour gouverner tout le royaume.
3Au-dessus d'eux il y avait trois ministres, dont était Daniel; c'est à eux que ces préfets devaient rendre des comptes, en sorte que le roi ne subît aucun dommage.
4Bientôt ce Daniel prit le dessus sur les ministres et les préfets, étant doué d'un esprit supérieur, et le roi projetait de le mettre à la tête de tout le royaume.
5Alors les ministres et les préfets s'appliquèrent à trouver un grief contre Daniel, du chef de son gouvernement, mais ils ne purent découvrir ni grief, ni méfait, parce qu'il était loyal, de sorte que ni erreur ni faute ne purent être surprises chez lui.
6Aussi ces hommes-là dirent: "Nous ne trouverons aucun grief contre ce Daniel, à moins que nous ne le prenions en défaut dans les choses de sa religion."
7Aussitôt les ministres et les préfets se précipitèrent chez le roi et lui parlèrent ainsi: "Vive à jamais le roi Darius!
8Tous les ministres du royaume, les préfets, les satrapes, les conseillers et les gouverneurs se sont concertés pour faire établir une ordonnance royale et promulguer une défense déclarant que quiconque, durant trente jours, adresserait une prière à tout autre Dieu ou homme qu'à toi-même, ô roi, serait jeté dans la fosse aux lions.
9Donc, ô roi, établis la défense et rédige l'édit qui ne puisse être modifié, conformément à la loi immuable de Médie et de Perse."
10En conséquence, le roi Darius rédigea l'édit et la défense.
11Or, Daniel, dès qu'il apprit que l'édit avait été rédigé, rentra chez lui. II avait, dans sa chambre supérieure, des fenêtres ouvertes dans la direction de Jérusalem, et trois fois par jour il se mettait à genoux, priant et louant Dieu tout comme il avait fait auparavant.
12Cependant, ces mêmes hommes se précipitèrent et surprirent Daniel priant et implorant son Dieu.
13Aussitôt ils se présentèrent devant le roi et l'entretinrent de la défense royale: "N'as-tu pas dirent-ils édicté une défense en vertu de laquelle tout homme qui, durant trente jours, adresserait une prière à tout autre Dieu ou homme que toi-même, ô roi, serait jeté dans la fosse aux lions?" Le roi répondit: "La chose est constante, conformément à la loi immuable de Médie et de Perse."
14Et eux de répliquer sur-le-champ au roi: "Daniel, qui fait partie des exilés de Judée, n'a tenu aucun compte de toi, ô roi, ni de la défense que tu as rédigée: trois fois par jour, il fait sa prière."
15Dès que le roi entendit ces paroles, il en fut très peiné, et il prit à cœur de tirer Daniel d'affaire: jusqu'au coucher du soleil il avisa aux moyens de le sauver.
16Mais alors ces gens firent irruption chez le roi et lui dirent: "Sache, ô roi, qu'une loi exige chez les Mèdes et les Perses que toute défense et tout édit établis par le roi soient immuables."
17Là-dessus, le roi donna un ordre, on amena Daniel et on le jeta dans la fosse aux lions: "Puisse, lui dit le roi, ton Dieu que tu sers constamment te sauver!"
18On apporta une pierre et on la posa sur l'orifice de la fosse; le roi la scella de son anneau et des anneaux de ses grands, pour qu'il n'y eût aucun revirement à l'égard de Daniel.
19Ensuite, le roi rentra dans son palais et passa la nuit en jeûnant; il ne fit pas dresser la table devant lui, et le sommeil s'obstina à le fuir.
20Dès l'aube, quand le jour vint à poindre, le roi se leva et se rendit en toute hâte à la fosse aux lions.
21Arrivé près de la fosse, il appela Daniel d'une voix attristée: "Daniel, serviteur du Dieu vivant, s'écria le roi en s'adressant à Daniel, ton Dieu que tu sers constamment a-t-il pu te préserver des lions?"
22Aussitôt Daniel parla au roi: "Vive, dit-il, le roi à jamais!
23Mon Dieu a envoyé son ange et fermé la gueule des lions, en sorte qu'ils ne m'ont fait aucun mal, parce que mon innocence a été reconnue par lui, de même qu'envers toi je n'ai commis aucun méfait."
24Alors le roi fut extrêmement content, et il ordonna de remonter Daniel de la fosse aux lions. Quand Daniel eut été remonté de la fosse, il ne portait aucune blessure, parce qu'il avait eu confiance en son Dieu.
25Puis, sur l'ordre du roi, on amena les hommes qui avaient dénoncé Daniel, et on les jeta dans la fosse aux lions, eux, leurs enfants et leurs femmes. Ils n'étaient pas encore arrivés au fond de la fosse, que les lions se jetèrent sur eux et leur broyèrent tous les membres.
26Alors le roi Darius manda à l'ensemble des nations, peuples et langues qui sont répandus sur toute la terre: "Que votre prospérité soit grande!
27L'ordre est donné par moi que dans toute l'étendue de mon royaume on manifeste crainte et vénération pour le Dieu de Daniel car il est le Dieu vivant, et il subsiste éternellement; sa royauté est indestructible et sa dénomination sans fin.
28Il préserve et il sauve, il accomplit des miracles et des prodiges au ciel et sur la terre, lui qui a sauvé Daniel de la griffe des lions."
29Et ce même Daniel prospéra sous le règne de Darius et sous le règne de Cyrus le Perse.

1PARECIÓ bien á Darío constituir sobre el reino ciento veinte gobernadores, que estuviesen en todo el reino.
2Y sobre ellos tres presidentes, de los cuales Daniel era el uno, á quienes estos gobernadores diesen cuenta, porque el rey no recibiese daño.
3Pero el mismo Daniel era superior á estos gobernadores y presidentes, porque había en él más abundancia de espíritu: y el rey pensaba de ponerlo sobre todo el reino.
4Entonces los presidentes y gobernadores buscaban ocasiones contra Daniel por parte del reino; mas no podían hallar alguna ocasión ó falta, porque él era fiel, y ningún vicio ni falta fué en él hallado.
5Entonces dijeron aquellos hombres: No hallaremos contra este Daniel ocasión alguna, si no la hallamos contra él en la ley de su Dios.
6Entonces estos gobernadores y presidentes se juntaron delante del rey, y le dijeron así: Rey Darío, para siempre vive:
7Todos los presidentes del reino, magistrados, gobernadores, grandes, y capitanes, han acordado por consejo promulgar un real edicto, y confirmarlo, que cualquiera que demandare petición de cualquier dios ú hombre en el espacio de treinta días, sino de ti, oh rey, sea echado en el foso de los leones.
8Ahora, oh rey, confirma el edicto, y firma la escritura, para que no se pueda mudar, conforme á la ley de Media y de Persia, la cual no se revoca.
9Firmó pues el rey Darío la escritura y el edicto.
10Y Daniel, cuando supo que la escritura estaba firmada, entróse en su casa, y abiertas las ventanas de su cámara que estaban hacia Jerusalem, hincábase de rodillas tres veces al día, y oraba, y confesaba delante de su Dios, como lo solía hacer antes.
11Entonces se juntaron aquellos hombres, y hallaron á Daniel orando y rogando delante de su Dios.
12Llegáronse luego, y hablaron delante del rey acerca del edicto real: ¿No has confirmado edicto que cualquiera que pidiere á cualquier dios ú hombre en el espacio de treinta días, excepto á ti, oh rey, fuese echado en el foso de los leones? Respondió el rey y dijo: Verdad es, conforme á la ley de Media y de Persia, la cual no se abroga.
13Entonces respondieron y dijeron delante del rey: Daniel que es de los hijos de la cautividad de los Judíos, no ha hecho cuenta de ti, oh rey, ni del edicto que confirmaste; antes tres veces al día hace su petición.
14El rey entonces, oyendo el negocio, pesóle en gran manera, y sobre Daniel puso cuidado para librarlo; y hasta puestas del sol trabajó para librarle.
15Empero aquellos hombres se reunieron cerca del rey, y dijeron al rey: Sepas, oh rey, que es ley de Media y de Persia, que ningún decreto ú ordenanza que el rey confirmare pueda mudarse.
16Entonces el rey mandó, y trajeron á Daniel, y echáronle en el foso de los leones. Y hablando el rey dijo á Daniel: El Dios tuyo, á quien tú continuamente sirves, él te libre.
17Y fué traída una piedra, y puesta sobre la puerta del foso, la cual selló el rey con su anillo, y con el anillo de sus príncipes, porque el acuerdo acerca de Daniel no se mudase.
18Fuése luego el rey á su palacio, y acostóse ayuno; ni instrumentos de música fueron traídos delante de él, y se le fué el sueño.
19El rey, por tanto, se levantó muy de mañana, y fué apriesa al foso de los leones:
20Y llegándose cerca del foso llamó á voces á Daniel con voz triste: y hablando el rey dijo á Daniel: Daniel, siervo del Dios viviente, el Dios tuyo, á quien tú continuamente sirves ¿te ha podido librar de los leones?
21Entonces habló Daniel con el rey: oh rey, para siempre vive.
22El Dios mío envió su ángel, el cual cerró la boca de los leones, para que no me hiciesen mal: porque delante de él se halló en mí justicia: y aun delante de ti, oh rey, yo no he hecho lo que no debiese.
23Entonces se alegró el rey en gran manera á causa de él, y mandó sacar á Daniel del foso: y fué Daniel sacado del foso, y ninguna lesión se halló en él, porque creyó en su Dios.
24Y mandándolo el rey fueron traídos aquellos hombres que habían acusado á Daniel, y fueron echados en el foso de los leones, ellos, sus hijos, y sus mujeres; y aun no habían llegado al suelo del foso, cuando los leones se apoderaron de ellos, y quebrantaron todos sus huesos.
25Entonces el rey Darío escribió á todos los pueblos, naciones, y lenguas, que habitan en toda la tierra: Paz os sea multiplicada:
26De parte mía es puesta ordenanza, que en todo el señorío de mi reino todos teman y tiemblen de la presencia del Dios de Daniel: porque él es el Dios viviente y permanente por todos los siglos, y su reino tal que no será deshecho, y su señorío hasta el fin.
27Que salva y libra, y hace señales y maravillas en el cielo y en la tierra; el cual libró á Daniel del poder de los leones.
28Y este Daniel fué prosperado durante el reinado de Darío, y durante el reinado de Ciro, Persa.

1It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
2And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
3Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
4Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
5Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
6Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
7All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
8Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
9Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
10Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
11Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
12Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
13Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
14Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
15Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
16Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
17And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
19Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
20And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
22My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
23Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
24And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
25Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
26I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
27He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
28So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

2and over them three presidents, of whom Daniel was one, that these local governors might give account to them, and that the king should suffer no loss.
3Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the local governors, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
4Then the presidents and the local governors sought to find occasion against Daniel as touching the kingdom; but they could find no occasion or fault, because he was faithful. There wasn’t any error or fault found in him.
5Then these men said, “We won’t find any occasion against this Daniel, unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.”
6Then these presidents and local governors assembled together to the king, and said this to him, “King Darius, live forever!
7All the presidents of the kingdom, the deputies and the local governors, the counselors and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a strong decree, that whoever asks a petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

13Then they answered and said before the king, “That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, doesn’t respect you, O king, nor the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.”
14Then the king, when he heard these words, was very displeased, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored until the going down of the sun to rescue him.
15Then these men assembled together to the king, and said to the king, “Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians, that no decree nor statute which the king establishes may be changed.”
16Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you.”
17A stone was brought, and laid on the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.
18Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting. No musical instruments were brought before him; and his sleep fled from him.
19Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste to the den of lions.
20When he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?”
21Then Daniel said to the king, “O king, live forever!
22My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me, because innocence was found in me before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”
23Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
24The king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions—them, their children, and their wives; and the lions mauled them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they came to the bottom of the den.
25Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages who dwell in all the earth: “Peace be multiplied to you.
26“I make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. “For he is the living God, and steadfast forever. His kingdom is that which will not be destroyed. His dominion will be even to the end.
27He delivers and rescues. He works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
28So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
