1Der medische Darius folgte in der Herrschaft nach, schon zweiundsechzig Jahre alt.
2Und da gefiel's Darius, einhunderteinundzwanzig Statthalter in seinem Reiche einzusetzen
3und über diese drei Vorsteher, und unter ihnen war auch Daniel. Und ihnen sollten jene Statthalter selbst Rechenschaft ablegen, auf daß der König keinen Schaden leide.
4Da übertraf nun dieser Daniel weit alle Vorsteher und die Satrapen, weil er Geist in hohem Maße hatte. So ging der König mit dem Plane um, ihn übers ganze Reich zu setzen.
5Da suchten nun die Vorsteher und die Satrapen einen Anlaß, um gegen Daniel von seiten der Regierung etwas aufzubringen. Doch sie vermochten nichts zu finden, weil er zuverlässig war und weil an ihm sich kein Vergehen und kein verdächtig Zeichen fand.
6Da sagten jene Männer: "Wir finden keinen Vorwand gegen diesen Daniel, wenn wir ihn nicht in dem Gesetze seines Gottes finden können."
7Da liefen diese Vorsteher und die Satrapen bei dem Könige zusammen und sprachen so zu ihm: "Darius, König, mögst du ewig leben!
8Es haben alle Vorsteher des Reichs, Statthalter und Satrapen und die Richter und die Vorgesetzten den Beschluß gefaßt, es soll der König ein Gebot erlassen und ein Verbot dazu aufstellen, wonach ein jeder in die Löwengrube soll geworfen werden, der dreißig Tage lang an irgendeinen Gott oder an einen Menschen außer dir, o König, eine Bitte richtet.
9Bestätige nun, o König, den Beschluß! Gib schriftlich den Befehl, damit es nach dem medischen und persischen Gesetz, das niemals abgeändert werden kann, unwiderruflich sei!"
10So ließ der König, der Darius hieß, das schriftliche Verbot abfassen.
11Als Daniel erfuhr, daß diese Schrift geschrieben sei, begab er sich in seine Wohnung, die im obern Stockwerk Fenster nach Jerusalem hin hatte. Er kniete dreimal dort am Tage nieder, pries betend seinen Gott, indem er ihn verehrte wie zuvor.
12Da eilten jene Männer aufgeregt herbei und fanden Daniel vor seinem Gott in Flehen und Gebet.
13Da gingen sie zum König, über das Verbot ihn zu befragen: "Hast du nicht ein Verbot aufzeichnen lassen, König, daß jeder Mensch in eine Löwengrube soll geworfen werden, der dreißig Tage lang an irgendeinen Gott oder an einen andern Menschen eine Bitte richtet als an dich, o König?" Da hob der König an und sprach: "Es steht die Sache nach dem medischen und persischen Gesetze fest, das niemals aufgehoben werden kann."
14Da gaben sie zur Antwort vor dem König: "Daniel, der zu den jüdischen Gefangenen gehört, hat sich um dein Gesetz, o König, nicht gekümmert, auch nicht um das Verbot, das schriftlich du gegeben. Er betet dreimal täglich sein Gebet."
15Als dies der König hörte, ward er tief betrübt und mühte sich um Daniels Errettung, und bis zum Sonnenuntergang war er bedacht auf seine Rettung.
16Doch da bestürmten jene Männer eifervoll den König; sie sprachen zu dem König: "Wisse, König! Es ist ein medisches und persisches Gesetz, daß kein Verbot und kein Gebot, das je der König hat erlassen, darf verändert werden."
17Da gab der König den Befehl, den Daniel herbeizubringen. Dann warf man ihn in eine Löwengrube. Der König sprach zu Daniel: "Dein Gott, dem du beharrlich dienst, er möge dich erretten!"
18Dann ward ein Stein herbeigeholt und oben auf der Grubenöffnung angebracht. Der König aber drückte dann sein Siegel und das der Edlen drauf, damit nichts gegen Daniel unternommen werden konnte.
19Darauf zog der König sich ins Schloß zurück und legte nüchtern sich zum Schlafe nieder; und er ließ keine Speisen vor sich bringen. Auch so floh ihn der Schlaf.
20Da stand der König schon in früher Morgenstunde auf und eilte zu der Löwengrube.
21Und als er sich der Grube näherte, rief er dem Daniel mit lauter Stimme zu. Der König sprach zu Daniel: "O Daniel, du des lebendigen Gottes Diener! Hat dich dein Gott, dem du beharrlich dienst, auch vor den Löwen retten können?"
22Sprach Daniel zum König:"O König, ewig mögst du leben!
23Mein Gott hat seinen Engel hergesandt. Er hat der Löwen Rachen zugeschlossen, daß sie mir kein Leid zufügten. Unschuldig ward ich ja vor Dir erfunden. Doch tat ich, König, auch vor dir nichts Unrechtes."
24Da ward der König seinethalben froh erregt und hieß den Daniel aus dieser Grube ziehen. Da wurde aus der Grube Daniel gezogen; es fand an ihm sich keinerlei Verletzung, weil er auf seinen Gott vertraut.
25Da gab der König den Befehl, nun jene Männer herzubringen, die Daniel verklagt. Sie warf man nun in jene Löwengrube mit den Kindern und den Weibern. Noch hatten sie der Grube Boden nicht erreicht, da waren schon die Löwen über sie gefallen und zermalmten ihnen alle Knochen.
26Darauf erließ Darius, jener König, an alle Völker, Stämme, Zungen, die auf der ganzen Erde wohnten, ein Schreiben:"Friede sei vielmals mit euch!
27Von mir ergeht jetzt der Befehl, daß man im ganzen Umkreis meines Königtums vor Daniels Gott erzittern und sich fürchten soll. Er ist ja der lebendige Gott, der bleibt in Ewigkeit. Sein Reich wird nicht zerstört, und seine Herrschaft dauert ewig.
28Er ist ein Retter und Erlöser, der Zeichen wirkt und Wunder im Himmel und auf Erden, er, der den Daniel aus der Löwengrube errettet hat." Und dieser Daniel war glücklich unter der Regierung des Darius, wie auch unter der des Persers Cyrus.

1PARECIÓ bien á Darío constituir sobre el reino ciento veinte gobernadores, que estuviesen en todo el reino.
2Y sobre ellos tres presidentes, de los cuales Daniel era el uno, á quienes estos gobernadores diesen cuenta, porque el rey no recibiese daño.
3Pero el mismo Daniel era superior á estos gobernadores y presidentes, porque había en él más abundancia de espíritu: y el rey pensaba de ponerlo sobre todo el reino.
4Entonces los presidentes y gobernadores buscaban ocasiones contra Daniel por parte del reino; mas no podían hallar alguna ocasión ó falta, porque él era fiel, y ningún vicio ni falta fué en él hallado.
5Entonces dijeron aquellos hombres: No hallaremos contra este Daniel ocasión alguna, si no la hallamos contra él en la ley de su Dios.
6Entonces estos gobernadores y presidentes se juntaron delante del rey, y le dijeron así: Rey Darío, para siempre vive:
7Todos los presidentes del reino, magistrados, gobernadores, grandes, y capitanes, han acordado por consejo promulgar un real edicto, y confirmarlo, que cualquiera que demandare petición de cualquier dios ú hombre en el espacio de treinta días, sino de ti, oh rey, sea echado en el foso de los leones.
8Ahora, oh rey, confirma el edicto, y firma la escritura, para que no se pueda mudar, conforme á la ley de Media y de Persia, la cual no se revoca.
9Firmó pues el rey Darío la escritura y el edicto.
10Y Daniel, cuando supo que la escritura estaba firmada, entróse en su casa, y abiertas las ventanas de su cámara que estaban hacia Jerusalem, hincábase de rodillas tres veces al día, y oraba, y confesaba delante de su Dios, como lo solía hacer antes.
11Entonces se juntaron aquellos hombres, y hallaron á Daniel orando y rogando delante de su Dios.
12Llegáronse luego, y hablaron delante del rey acerca del edicto real: ¿No has confirmado edicto que cualquiera que pidiere á cualquier dios ú hombre en el espacio de treinta días, excepto á ti, oh rey, fuese echado en el foso de los leones? Respondió el rey y dijo: Verdad es, conforme á la ley de Media y de Persia, la cual no se abroga.
13Entonces respondieron y dijeron delante del rey: Daniel que es de los hijos de la cautividad de los Judíos, no ha hecho cuenta de ti, oh rey, ni del edicto que confirmaste; antes tres veces al día hace su petición.
14El rey entonces, oyendo el negocio, pesóle en gran manera, y sobre Daniel puso cuidado para librarlo; y hasta puestas del sol trabajó para librarle.
15Empero aquellos hombres se reunieron cerca del rey, y dijeron al rey: Sepas, oh rey, que es ley de Media y de Persia, que ningún decreto ú ordenanza que el rey confirmare pueda mudarse.
16Entonces el rey mandó, y trajeron á Daniel, y echáronle en el foso de los leones. Y hablando el rey dijo á Daniel: El Dios tuyo, á quien tú continuamente sirves, él te libre.
17Y fué traída una piedra, y puesta sobre la puerta del foso, la cual selló el rey con su anillo, y con el anillo de sus príncipes, porque el acuerdo acerca de Daniel no se mudase.
18Fuése luego el rey á su palacio, y acostóse ayuno; ni instrumentos de música fueron traídos delante de él, y se le fué el sueño.
19El rey, por tanto, se levantó muy de mañana, y fué apriesa al foso de los leones:
20Y llegándose cerca del foso llamó á voces á Daniel con voz triste: y hablando el rey dijo á Daniel: Daniel, siervo del Dios viviente, el Dios tuyo, á quien tú continuamente sirves ¿te ha podido librar de los leones?
21Entonces habló Daniel con el rey: oh rey, para siempre vive.
22El Dios mío envió su ángel, el cual cerró la boca de los leones, para que no me hiciesen mal: porque delante de él se halló en mí justicia: y aun delante de ti, oh rey, yo no he hecho lo que no debiese.
23Entonces se alegró el rey en gran manera á causa de él, y mandó sacar á Daniel del foso: y fué Daniel sacado del foso, y ninguna lesión se halló en él, porque creyó en su Dios.
24Y mandándolo el rey fueron traídos aquellos hombres que habían acusado á Daniel, y fueron echados en el foso de los leones, ellos, sus hijos, y sus mujeres; y aun no habían llegado al suelo del foso, cuando los leones se apoderaron de ellos, y quebrantaron todos sus huesos.
25Entonces el rey Darío escribió á todos los pueblos, naciones, y lenguas, que habitan en toda la tierra: Paz os sea multiplicada:
26De parte mía es puesta ordenanza, que en todo el señorío de mi reino todos teman y tiemblen de la presencia del Dios de Daniel: porque él es el Dios viviente y permanente por todos los siglos, y su reino tal que no será deshecho, y su señorío hasta el fin.
27Que salva y libra, y hace señales y maravillas en el cielo y en la tierra; el cual libró á Daniel del poder de los leones.
28Y este Daniel fué prosperado durante el reinado de Darío, y durante el reinado de Ciro, Persa.

1It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom;
2And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage.
3Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
4Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.
5Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.
6Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.
7All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.
8Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
9Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.
10Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.
11Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
12Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
13Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
14Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
15Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
16Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
17And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
19Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
20And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
22My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
23Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
24And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
25Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
26I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
27He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
28So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
World English Bible
1It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred twenty local governors, who should be throughout the whole kingdom;
2and over them three presidents, of whom Daniel was one, that these local governors might give account to them, and that the king should suffer no loss.
3Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the local governors, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.
4Then the presidents and the local governors sought to find occasion against Daniel as touching the kingdom; but they could find no occasion or fault, because he was faithful. There wasn’t any error or fault found in him.
5Then these men said, “We won’t find any occasion against this Daniel, unless we find it against him concerning the law of his God.”
6Then these presidents and local governors assembled together to the king, and said this to him, “King Darius, live forever!
7All the presidents of the kingdom, the deputies and the local governors, the counselors and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a strong decree, that whoever asks a petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

13Then they answered and said before the king, “That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, doesn’t respect you, O king, nor the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.”
14Then the king, when he heard these words, was very displeased, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored until the going down of the sun to rescue him.
15Then these men assembled together to the king, and said to the king, “Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians, that no decree nor statute which the king establishes may be changed.”
16Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you.”
17A stone was brought, and laid on the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.
18Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting. No musical instruments were brought before him; and his sleep fled from him.
19Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste to the den of lions.
20When he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?”
21Then Daniel said to the king, “O king, live forever!
22My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me, because innocence was found in me before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”
23Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
24The king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions—them, their children, and their wives; and the lions mauled them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they came to the bottom of the den.
25Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages who dwell in all the earth: “Peace be multiplied to you.
26“I make a decree that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. “For he is the living God, and steadfast forever. His kingdom is that which will not be destroyed. His dominion will be even to the end.
27He delivers and rescues. He works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”
28So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
