1Je veux, en effet, que vous sachiez combien est grand le combat que je livre pour vous, pour ceux de Laodicée, et pour tous ceux qui n'ont pas vu mon visage dans la chair,
2afin que leurs cœurs soient consolés, qu'ils soient unis dans l'amour, et qu'ils obtiennent toute la richesse de la pleine certitude de l'intelligence, pour connaître le mystère de Dieu, à savoir Christ,
3en qui sont cachés tous les trésors de la sagesse et de la connaissance.
4Je dis cela afin que personne ne vous trompe par des discours persuasifs.
5Car, bien que je sois absent de corps, je suis avec vous en esprit, me réjouissant de voir le bon ordre qui règne parmi vous et la fermeté de votre foi en Christ.
6Ainsi donc, comme vous avez reçu le Christ Jésus le Seigneur, marchez en lui,
7enracinés et édifiés en lui, et affermis dans la foi, d'après l'enseignement que vous avez reçu, et abondant en actions de grâces.
8Prenez garde que personne ne fasse de vous sa proie par la philosophie et par une vaine tromperie, s'appuyant sur la tradition des hommes, sur les principes élémentaires du monde, et non sur Christ.
9Car en lui habite corporellement toute la plénitude de la Divinité.
10Et vous avez tout pleinement en lui, qui est le chef de toute domination et de toute autorité.
11En lui aussi vous avez été circoncis d'une circoncision qui n'est pas faite de main d'homme, par le dépouillement du corps des péchés de la chair, par la circoncision de Christ,
12ayant été ensevelis avec lui par le baptême, dans lequel vous êtes aussi ressuscités avec lui par la foi en la puissance de Dieu, qui l'a ressuscité des morts.
13Vous qui étiez morts par vos offenses et par l'incirconcision de votre chair, il vous a rendus à la vie avec lui, nous ayant pardonné toutes nos offenses ;
14il a effacé l'acte rédigé contre nous, dont les ordonnances nous condamnaient, et il l'a détruit en le clouant à la croix.
15Il a dépouillé les dominations et les autorités, et les a livrées publiquement en spectacle, en triomphant d'elles par la croix.
16Que personne donc ne vous juge au sujet du manger ou du boire, ou au sujet d'une fête, d'une nouvelle lune, ou d'un jour de sabbat,
17qui sont l'ombre des choses à venir ; mais le corps est à Christ.
18Que personne ne vous ravisse le prix de la course sous prétexte d'humilité et de culte des anges, s'abandonnant à ses visions, vainement enflé d'orgueil par ses pensées charnelles,
19et ne s'attachant pas au Chef, par qui tout le corps, soutenu et uni par ses jointures et ses ligaments, grandit de la croissance que Dieu donne.
20Si vous êtes morts avec Christ aux principes élémentaires du monde, pourquoi, comme si vous viviez dans le monde, vous soumettez-vous à ces règles :
21« Ne prends pas, ne goûte pas, ne touche pas »,
22règles qui toutes sont destinées à périr par l'usage, fondées sur des préceptes et des doctrines d'hommes ?
23Ces choses ont, il est vrai, une apparence de sagesse, en ce qu'elles indiquent un culte volontaire, de l'humilité, et de la dureté pour le corps, mais elles n’ont aucune valeur pour maîtriser la chair.

1PORQUE quiero que sepáis cuán gran solicitud tengo por vosotros, y por los que están en Laodicea, y por todos los que nunca vieron mi rostro en carne;
2Para que sean confortados sus corazones, unidos en amor, y en todas riquezas de cumplido entendimiento para conocer el misterio de Dios, y del Padre, y de Cristo;
3En el cual están escondidos todos los tesoros de sabiduría y conocimiento.
4Y esto digo, para que nadie os engañe con palabras persuasivas.
5Porque aunque estoy ausente con el cuerpo, no obstante con el espíritu estoy con vosotros, gozándome y mirando vuestro concierto, y la firmeza de vuestra fe en Cristo.
6Por tanto, de la manera que habéis recibido al Señor Jesucristo, andad en él:
7Arraigados y sobreedificados en él, y confirmados en la fe, así como habéis aprendido, creciendo en ella con hacimiento de gracias.
8Mirad que ninguno os engañe por filosofías y vanas sutilezas, según las tradiciones de los hombres, conforme á los elementos del mundo, y no según Cristo:
9Porque en él habita toda la plenitud de la divinidad corporalmente:
10Y en él estáis cumplidos, el cual es la cabeza de todo principado y potestad:
11En el cual también sois circuncidados de circuncisión no hecha con manos, con el despojamiento del cuerpo de los pecados de la carne, en la circuncisión de Cristo;
12Sepultados juntamente con él en el bautismo, en el cual también resucitasteis con él, por la fe de la operación de Dios que le levantó de los muertos.
13Y á vosotros, estando muertos en pecados y en la incircuncisión de vuestra carne, os vivificó juntamente con él, perdonándoos todos los pecados,
14Rayendo la cédula de los ritos que nos era contraria, que era contra nosotros, quitándola de en medio y enclavándola en la cruz;
15Y despojando los principados y las potestades, sacólos á la vergüenza en público, triunfando de ellos en sí mismo.
16Por tanto, nadie os juzgue en comida, ó en bebida, ó en parte de día de fiesta, ó de nueva luna, ó de sábados:
17Lo cual es la sombra de lo por venir; mas el cuerpo es de Cristo.
18Nadie os prive de vuestro premio, afectando humildad y culto á los ángeles, metiéndose en lo que no ha visto, vanamente hinchado en el sentido de su propia carne,
19Y no teniendo la cabeza, de la cual todo el cuerpo, alimentado y conjunto por las ligaduras y conjunturas, crece en aumento de Dios.
20Pues si sois muertos con Cristo cuanto á los rudimentos del mundo, ¿por qué como si vivieseis al mundo, os sometéis á ordenanzas,
21Tales como, No manejes, ni gustes, ni aun toques,
22(Las cuales cosas son todas para destrucción en el uso mismo), en conformidad á mandamientos y doctrinas de hombres?
23Tales cosas tienen á la verdad cierta reputación de sabiduría en culto voluntario, y humildad, y en duro trato del cuerpo; no en alguna honra para el saciar de la carne.

1For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
2That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.
5For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ.
6As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
8Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
20Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
21(Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
23Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
World English Bible
1For I desire to have you know how greatly I struggle for you and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;
2that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and gaining all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,
3in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.
4Now I say this that no one may delude you with persuasiveness of speech.
5For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in the spirit, rejoicing and seeing your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
6As therefore you received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in him,
7rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in it in thanksgiving.
8Be careful that you don’t let anyone rob you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the elemental spirits of the world, and not after Christ.
9For in him all the fullness of the Deity dwells bodily,
10and in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power.
11In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ,
12having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.
13You were dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh. He made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,
14wiping out the handwriting in ordinances which was against us. He has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.
15Having stripped the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16Let no one therefore judge you in eating or drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day,
17which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s.
18Let no one rob you of your prize by self-abasement and worshiping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19and not holding firmly to the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, grows with God’s growth.
20If you died with Christ from the elemental spirits of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances,
21“Don’t handle, nor taste, nor touch”
22(all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men?
23These things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imposed worship, humility, and severity to the body, but aren’t of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
