1In jenen Tagen, da die Jünger sich mehrten, entstand ein Murren der Hellenisten gegen die Hebräer, daß ihre Witwen bei der täglichen Almosenverteilung zurückgesetzt würden.
2Da beriefen die Zwölf eine Versammlung der Jünger und erklärten: "Es geht nicht an, daß wir das Wort Gottes hintansetzen, um die Tische zu besorgen.
3So sucht euch denn, ihr lieben Brüder, bei euch sieben Männer aus, die ein gutes Zeugnis haben und voll des Heiligen Geistes und voll Weisheit sind; die wollen wir für diese Sache bestellen.
4Wir aber werden weiter dem Gebete sowie dem Dienste des Wortes uns widmen."
5Der Vorschlag fand den Beifall der ganzen Versammlung. Sie wählten Stephanus, einen Mann voll Glauben und Heiligen Geistes, den Philippus, Prochorus, Nikanor, Timon, Parmenas und Nikolaus, einen Proselyten aus Antiochien.
6Diese stellte man den Aposteln vor. Sie legten ihnen unter Gebet die Hände auf.
7Und das Wort Gottes verbreitete sich, und die Zahl der Jünger ward in Jerusalem groß, sogar eine große Anzahl von Priestern unterwarf sich dem Glauben.
8Stephanus, voll Liebe und Kraft, tat große Zeichen und Wunder unter dem Volke.
9Da erhoben sich einige aus der sogenannten Synagoge der Libertiner, Cyrenäer und Alexandriner und derer aus Cilizien und Asien und stritten mit Stephanus.
10Sie vermochten aber der Weisheit und dem Geiste, mit dem er sprach, nicht zu widerstehen.
11Sie stifteten Männer an, die aussagen mußten: "Wir haben gehört, wie er Lästerworte gegen Moses und Gott ausstieß."
12Sie hetzten das Volk, die Ältesten und die Schriftgelehrten auf, überfielen ihn, schleppten ihn fort und führten ihn vor den Hohen Rat.
13Auch stellten sie falsche Zeugen auf, die aussagen mußten: "Dieser Mensch hört nicht auf, gegen die heilige Stätte und gegen das Gesetz Reden auszustoßen.
14Haben wir ihn doch sagen hören: 'Der bekannte Jesus von Nazareth wird diesen Ort zerstören und die Bräuche ändern, die Moses uns überliefert hat.'"
15Alle, die im Hohen Rat saßen, richteten ihre Blicke auf ihn, und sein Antlitz erschien ihnen wie das Antlitz eines Engels.

1EN aquellos días, creciendo el número de los discípulos, hubo murmuración de los Griegos contra los Hebreos, de que sus viudas eran menospreciadas en el ministerio cotidiano.
2Así que, los doce convocaron la multitud de los discípulos, y dijeron: No es justo que nosotros dejemos la palabra de Dios, y sirvamos á las mesas.
3Buscad pues, hermanos, siete varones de vosotros de buen testimonio, llenos de Espíritu Santo y de sabiduría, los cuales pongamos en esta obra.
4Y nosotros persistiremos en la oración, y en el ministerio de la palabra.
5Y plugo el parecer á toda la multitud; y eligieron á Esteban, varón lleno de fe y de Espíritu Santo, y á Felipe, y á Prócoro, y á Nicanor, y á Timón, y á Parmenas, y á Nicolás, prosélito de Antioquía:
6A estos presentaron delante de los apóstoles, los cuales orando les pusieron las manos encima.
7Y crecía la palabra del Señor, y el número de los discípulos se multiplicaba mucho en Jerusalem: también una gran multitud de los sacerdotes obedecía á la fe.
8Empero Esteban, lleno de gracia y de potencia, hacía prodigios y milagros grandes en el pueblo.
9Levantáronse entonces unos de la sinagoga que se llama de los Libertinos, y Cireneos, y Alejandrinos, y de los de Cilicia, y de Asia, disputando con Esteban.
10Mas no podían resistir á la sabiduría y al Espíritu con que hablaba.
11Entonces sobornaron á unos que dijesen que le habían oído hablar palabras blasfemas contra Moisés y Dios.
12Y conmovieron al pueblo, y á los ancianos, y á los escribas; y arremetiendo le arrebataron, y le trajeron al concilio.
13Y pusieron testigos falsos, que dijesen: Este hombre no cesa de hablar palabras blasfemas contra este lugar santo y la ley:
14Porque le hemos oído decir, que este Jesús de Nazaret destruirá este lugar, y mudará las ordenanzas que nos dió Moisés.
15Entonces todos los que estaban sentados en el concilio, puestos los ojos en él, vieron su rostro como el rostro de un ángel.

1And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
2Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
5And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
6Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
9Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.
10And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.
11Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
12And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,
13And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:
14For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
15And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

1Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, a complaint arose from the Hellenists against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily service.
2The twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables.
3Therefore, select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word.”
5These words pleased the whole multitude. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch,
6whom they set before the apostles. When they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7The word of God increased and the number of the disciples greatly multiplied in Jerusalem. A great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8Stephen, full of faith and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.
9But some of those who were of the synagogue called “The Libertines”, and of the Cyrenians, of the Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen.
10They weren’t able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.
11Then they secretly induced men to say, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”
12They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, then brought him in to the council,
13and set up false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.
14For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.”
15All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face like it was the face of an angel.
