1Ein Mann aber, mit Namen Ananias, samt seiner Frau Saphira, verkaufte ein Gut
2und entwendete von dem Erlös, unter Mitwissen seiner Frau, und brachte einen Teil davon und legte ihn den Aposteln zu Füßen.
3Petrus aber sprach: Ananias, warum hat der Satan dein Herz erfüllt, den heiligen Geist zu belügen und von dem Erlös des Gutes etwas zu entwenden?
4Konntest du es nicht als dein Eigentum behalten? Und als du es verkauft hattest, war es nicht in deiner Gewalt? Warum beschlossest du denn in deinem Herzen diese Tat? Du hast nicht Menschen belogen, sondern Gott!
5Als aber Ananias diese Worte hörte, fiel er nieder und verschied. Und es kam große Furcht über alle, die es hörten.
6Es standen aber die Jünglinge auf, hüllten ihn ein, trugen ihn hinaus und begruben ihn.
7Und es begab sich, nach einer Weile von ungefähr drei Stunden, da kam seine Frau herein, ohne zu wissen, was geschehen war.
8Da hob Petrus an und sprach zu ihr: Sage mir, habt ihr das Gut um so und so viel verkauft? Sie sprach: Ja, um so viel!
9Petrus aber sprach zu ihr: Warum seid ihr übereingekommen, den Geist des Herrn zu versuchen? Siehe, die Füße derer, die deinen Mann begraben haben, sind vor der Tür und werden auch dich hinaustragen!
10Da fiel sie alsbald zu seinen Füßen nieder und verschied; und als die Jünglinge hereinkamen, fanden sie sie tot und trugen sie hinaus und begruben sie bei ihrem Manne.
11Und es kam große Furcht über die ganze Gemeinde und über alle, die davon hörten.
12Durch die Hände der Apostel aber geschahen viele Zeichen und Wunder unter dem Volk; und sie waren alle einmütig beisammen in der Halle Salomos.
13Von den übrigen aber wagte keiner sich ihnen anzuschließen; doch das Volk schätzte sie hoch;
14und immer mehr wurden hinzugetan, die an den Herrn glaubten, eine Menge von Männern und Frauen,
15so daß man die Kranken auf die Gassen hinaustrug und sie auf Betten und Bahren legte, damit, wenn Petrus käme, auch nur sein Schatten einen von ihnen überschattete.
16Es kamen aber auch viele aus den umliegenden Städten in Jerusalem zusammen und brachten Kranke und von unreinen Geistern Geplagte; die wurden alle geheilt.
17Es erhob sich aber der Hohepriester und sein ganzer Anhang, nämlich die Sekte der Sadduzäer.
18Die wurden voll Eifersucht und legten ihre Hände an die Apostel und setzten sie in öffentlichen Gewahrsam.
19Aber ein Engel des Herrn öffnete in der Nacht die Türen des Gefängnisses und führte sie heraus und sprach:
20Gehet hin, tretet auf und redet im Tempel zum Volk alle Worte dieses Lebens!
21Als sie das hörten, gingen sie frühmorgens in den Tempel und lehrten. Es kam aber der Hohepriester und sein Anhang, und sie riefen den Hohen Rat und alle Ältesten der Kinder Israel zusammen und sandten in das Gefängnis, um sie herbringen zu lassen.
22Als aber die Diener hinkamen, fanden sie jene nicht im Gefängnis. Da kehrten sie zurück, meldeten es und sprachen:
23Das Gefängnis fanden wir zwar mit aller Sorgfalt verschlossen und die Wächter vor den Türen stehen; als wir aber öffneten, fanden wir niemand darin!
24Als aber der Tempelhauptmann und die Hohenpriester diese Worte hörten, konnten sie sich nicht erklären, wieso das komme.
25Da kam jemand und verkündigte ihnen: Siehe, die Männer, welche ihr ins Gefängnis gesetzt habt, stehen im Tempel und lehren das Volk!
26Da ging der Hauptmann mit den Dienern hin und führte sie herbei, nicht mit Gewalt; denn sie fürchteten, das Volk könnte sie steinigen.
27Und sie brachten sie und stellten sie vor den Hohen Rat; und der Hohepriester fragte sie und sprach:
28Haben wir euch nicht streng verboten, in diesem Namen zu lehren? Und siehe, ihr habt mit eurer Lehre Jerusalem erfüllt und wollt das Blut dieses Menschen auf uns bringen!
29Petrus aber und die Apostel antworteten und sprachen: Man muß Gott mehr gehorchen als den Menschen!
30Der Gott unsrer Väter hat Jesus auferweckt, den ihr ans Holz gehängt und umgebracht habt.
31Diesen hat Gott zum Anführer und Retter zu seiner Rechten erhöht, um Israel Buße und Vergebung der Sünden zu verleihen.
32Und wir sind Seine Zeugen dieser Tatsachen, und der heilige Geist, welchen Gott denen gegeben hat, die ihm gehorsam sind.
33Als sie aber das hörten, fühlten sie sich tief getroffen und wollten sie umbringen.
34Es stand aber im Hohen Rate ein Pharisäer namens Gamaliel auf, ein beim ganzen Volke angesehener Gesetzeslehrer, und befahl, die Leute ein wenig abtreten zu lassen;
35dann sprach er zu ihnen: Ihr israelitischen Männer, nehmt euch in acht, was ihr mit diesen Menschen tun wollt!
36Denn vor diesen Tagen trat Theudas auf, der sich für etwas Großes ausgab und dem eine Anzahl Männer, etwa vierhundert, anhing; der wurde erschlagen, und alle, die ihm folgten, zerstreuten sich und wurden zunichte.
37Nach diesem trat Judas, der Galiläer, in den Tagen der Schatzung auf und brachte unter seiner Führung viel Volk zum Abfall; und auch er kam um, und alle, die ihm folgten, wurden zerstreut.
38Und jetzt sage ich euch: Stehet von diesen Menschen ab und lasset sie! Denn ist dieses Vorhaben oder dieses Werk von Menschen, so wird es zunichte werden;
39ist es aber von Gott, so vermöget ihr es nicht zu vernichten. Daß ihr nicht gar als solche erfunden werdet, die wider Gott streiten!
40Und sie fügten sich ihm und riefen die Apostel herbei und gaben ihnen Streiche und verboten ihnen, von dem Namen Jesus zu reden, und entließen sie.
41Sie aber gingen fröhlich vom Hohen Rat hinweg, weil sie gewürdigt worden waren, um Seines Namens willen Schmach zu leiden;
42und sie hörten nicht auf, alle Tage im Tempel und in den Häusern zu lehren und das Evangelium von Jesus als dem Christus zu verkündigen.

1MAS un varón llamado Ananías, con Safira su mujer, vendió una posesión,
2Y defraudó del precio, sabiéndolo también su mujer; y trayendo una parte, púsola á los pies de los apóstoles.
3Y dijo Pedro: Ananías, ¿por qué ha llenado Satanás tu corazón á que mintieses al Espíritu Santo, y defraudases del precio de la heredad?
4Reteniéndola, ¿no se te quedaba á ti? y vendida, ¿no estaba en tu potestad? ¿Por qué pusiste esto en tu corazón? No has mentido á los hombres, sino á Dios.
5Entonces Ananías, oyendo estas palabras, cayó y espiró. Y vino un gran temor sobre todos los que lo oyeron.
6Y levantándose los mancebos, le tomaron, y sacándolo, sepultáronlo.
7Y pasado espacio como de tres horas, sucedió que entró su mujer, no sabiendo lo que había acontecido.
8Entonces Pedro le dijo: Dime: ¿vendisteis en tanto la heredad? Y ella dijo: Sí, en tanto.
9Y Pedro le dijo: ¿Por qué os concertasteis para tentar al Espíritu del Señor? He aquí á la puerta los pies de los que han sepultado á tu marido, y te sacarán.
10Y luego cayó á los pies de él, y espiró: y entrados los mancebos, la hallaron muerta; y la sacaron, y la sepultaron junto á su marido.
11Y vino un gran temor en toda la iglesia, y en todos los que oyeron estas cosas.
12Y por las manos de los apóstoles eran hechos muchos milagros y prodigios en el pueblo; y estaban todos unánimes en el pórtico de Salomón.
13Y de los otros, ninguno osaba juntarse con ellos; mas el pueblo los alababa grandemente.
14Y los que creían en el Señor se aumentaban más, gran número así de hombres como de mujeres;
15Tanto que echaban los enfermos por las calles, y los ponían en camas y en lechos, para que viniendo Pedro, á lo menos su sombra tocase á alguno de ellos.
16Y aun de las ciudades vecinas concurría multitud á Jerusalem, trayendo enfermos y atormentados de espíritus inmundos; los cuales todos eran curados.
17Entonces levantándose el príncipe de los sacerdotes, y todos los que estaban con él, que es la secta de los Saduceos, se llenaron de celo;
18Y echaron mano á los apóstoles, y pusiéronlos en la cárcel pública.
19Mas el ángel del Señor, abriendo de noche las puertas de la cárcel, y sacándolos, dijo:
20Id, y estando en el templo, hablad al pueblo todas las palabras de esta vida.
21Y oído que hubieron esto, entraron de mañana en el templo, y enseñaban. Entre tanto, viniendo el príncipe de los sacerdotes, y los que eran con él, convocaron el concilio, y á todos los ancianos de los hijos de Israel, y enviaron á la cárcel para que fuesen traídos.
22Mas como llegaron los ministros, y no los hallaron en la cárcel, volvieron, y dieron aviso,
23Diciendo: Por cierto, la cárcel hemos hallado cerrada con toda seguridad, y los guardas que estaban delante de las puertas; mas cuando abrimos, á nadie hallamos dentro.
24Y cuando oyeron estas palabras el pontífice y el magistrado del templo y los príncipes de los sacerdotes, dudaban en qué vendría á parar aquello.
25Pero viniendo uno, dióles esta noticia: He aquí, los varones que echasteis en la cárcel, están en el templo, y enseñan al pueblo.
26Entonces fué el magistrado con los ministros, y trájolos sin violencia; porque temían del pueblo ser apedreados.
27Y como los trajeron, los presentaron en el concilio: y el príncipe de los sacerdotes les preguntó,
28Diciendo: ¿No os denunciamos estrechamente, que no enseñaseis en este nombre? y he aquí, habéis llenado á Jerusalem de vuestra doctrina, y queréis echar sobre nosotros la sangre de este hombre.
29Y respondiendo Pedro y los apóstoles, dijeron: Es menester obedecer á Dios antes que á los hombres.
30El Dios de nuestros padres levantó á Jesús, al cual vosotros matasteis colgándole en un madero.
31A éste ha Dios ensalzado con su diestra por Príncipe y Salvador, para dar á Israel arrepentimiento y remisión de pecados.
32Y nosotros somos testigos suyos de estas cosas, y también el Espíritu Santo, el cual ha dado Dios á los que le obedecen.
33Ellos, oyendo esto, regañaban, y consultaban matarlos.
34Entonces levantándose en el concilio un Fariseo llamado Gamaliel, doctor de la ley, venerable á todo el pueblo, mandó que sacasen fuera un poco á los apóstoles.
35Y les dijo: Varones Israelitas, mirad por vosotros acerca de estos hombres en lo que habéis de hacer.
36Porque antes de estos días se levantó Teudas, diciendo que era alguien; al que se agregó un número de hombres como cuatrocientos: el cual fué matado; y todos los que le creyeron fueron dispersos, y reducidos á nada.
37Después de éste, se levantó Judas el Galileo en los días del empadronamiento, y llevó mucho pueblo tras sí. Pereció también aquél; y todos los que consintieron con él, fueron derramados.
38Y ahora os digo: Dejaos de estos hombres, y dejadlos; porque si este consejo ó esta obra es de los hombres, se desvanecerá:
39Mas si es de Dios, no la podréis deshacer; no seáis tal vez hallados resistiendo á Dios.
40Y convinieron con él: y llamando á los apóstoles, después de azotados, les intimaron que no hablasen en el nombre de Jesús, y soltáronlos.
41Y ellos partieron de delante del concilio, gozosos de que fuesen tenidos por dignos de padecer afrenta por el Nombre.
42Y todos los días, en el templo y por las casas, no cesaban de enseñar y predicar á Jesucristo.

1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
6And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
7And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
8And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
9Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
10Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
11And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
12And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.
13And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.
14And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
15Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
16There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
17Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
18And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.
19But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
20Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.
21And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,
23Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
24Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
25Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
26Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
27And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.
29Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
33When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.
34Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;
35And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
36For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.
37After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.
38And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:
39But if it be of God, ye can not overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
40And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
42And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
World English Bible
1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2and kept back part of the price, his wife also being aware of it, then brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
3But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.”
5Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and died. Great fear came on all who heard these things.
6The young men arose and wrapped him up, and they carried him out and buried him.
7About three hours later, his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.
8Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much.” She said, “Yes, for so much.”
9But Peter asked her, “How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”
10She fell down immediately at his feet and died. The young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband.
11Great fear came on the whole assembly, and on all who heard these things.
12By the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. They were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.
13None of the rest dared to join them; however, the people honored them.
14More believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women.
15They even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mattresses, so that as Peter came by, at least his shadow might overshadow some of them.
16The multitude also came together from the cities around Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits; and they were all healed.
17But the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy
18and laid hands on the apostles, then put them in public custody.
19But an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors by night, and brought them out and said,
20“Go stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.”
21When they heard this, they entered into the temple about daybreak and taught. But the high priest and those who were with him came and called the council together, with all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.
22But the officers who came didn’t find them in the prison. They returned and reported,
23“We found the prison shut and locked, and the guards standing before the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside!”
24Now when the high priest, the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were very perplexed about them and what might become of this.
25One came and told them, “Behold, the men whom you put in prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people.”
26Then the captain went with the officers, and brought them without violence, for they were afraid that the people might stone them.
27When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The high priest questioned them,
28saying, “Didn’t we strictly command you not to teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us.”
29But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.
30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed, hanging him on a tree.
31God exalted him with his right hand to be a Prince and a Savior, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins.
32We are his witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
33But they, when they heard this, were cut to the heart, and were determined to kill them.
34But one stood up in the council, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, honored by all the people, and commanded to put the apostles out for a little while.
35He said to them, “You men of Israel, be careful concerning these men, what you are about to do.
36For before these days Theudas rose up, making himself out to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves. He was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were dispersed and came to nothing.
37After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the enrollment, and drew away some people after him. He also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.
38Now I tell you, withdraw from these men and leave them alone. For if this counsel or this work is of men, it will be overthrown.
39But if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow it, and you would be found even to be fighting against God!”
40They agreed with him. Summoning the apostles, they beat them and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.
41They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for Jesus’ name.
42Every day, in the temple and at home, they never stopped teaching and preaching Jesus, the Christ.
