E usciti che fummo fuor di pericolo, allora conoscemmo, che l'isola chiamavasi Malta. E ci trattaron que' barbari con molta umanità.

Y CUANDO escapamos, entonces supimos que la isla se llamaba Melita.

And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.

When we had escaped, then they learned that the island was called Malta.
