Hechos 22

Uomini fratelli, e padri, udite la mia difesa, la quale io fo adesso dinanzi a voi.

VARONES hermanos y padres, oid la razón que ahora os doy.

Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.

“Brothers and fathers, listen to the defense which I now make to you.”

E avendo quelli sentito, che parlava loro in lingua Ebrea, tanto più gli prestaron silenzio.

(Y como oyeron que les hablaba en lengua hebrea, guardaron más silencio.) Y dijo:

(And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,)

When they heard that he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, they were even more quiet. He said,

Ed egli disse: Io sono uomo Giudeo nato in Tarso della Cilicia, ma allevato in questa città ai piedi di Gamaliele, istruito secondo la verità della paterna legge, zelator della legge, come tutti voi oggi siete:

Yo de cierto soy Judío, nacido en Tarso de Cilicia, mas criado en esta ciudad á los pies de Gamaliel, enseñado conforme á la verdad de la ley de la patria, celoso de Dios, como todos vosotros sois hoy.

I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

“I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strict tradition of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, even as you all are today.

Il quale ho perseguitato fino a morte questa scuola, legando, e mettendo in prigione uomini, e donne,

Que he perseguido este camino hasta la muerte, prendiendo y entregando en cárceles hombres y mujeres:

And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women,

Come ne è a me testimone il principe de' sacerdoti, e tutti i seniori, da' quali ricevute lettere per Damasco ai fratelli, io me ne andava per condurli di colà legati in Gerusalemme, perché fosser puniti.

Como también el príncipe de los sacerdotes me es testigo, y todos los ancianos; de los cuales también tomando letras á los hermanos, iba á Damasco para traer presos á Jerusalem aun á los que estuviesen allí, para que fuesen castigados.

As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

as also the high priest and all the council of the elders testify, from whom also I received letters to the brothers, and traveled to Damascus to bring them also who were there to Jerusalem in bonds to be punished.

Or avvenne, che, mentre faceva strada, e mi avvicinava a Damasco, di mezzogiorno repentinamente mi folgoreggiò d'intorno una gran luce dal cielo:

Mas aconteció que yendo yo, y llegando cerca de Damasco, como á medio día, de repente me rodeó mucha luz del cielo:

And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.

“As I made my journey and came close to Damascus, about noon suddenly a great light shone around me from the sky.

E caduto sul suolo, udii una voce, che a me dicea: Saulo, Saulo, perché mi perseguiti?

Y caí en el suelo, y oí una voz que me decía: Saulo, Saulo, ¿por qué me persigues?

And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’

E io risposi: Chi se' tu, Signore? E dissemi: Io sono Gesù il Nazareno, cui tu perseguiti.

Yo entonces respondí: ¿Quién eres, Señor? Y me dijo: Yo soy Jesús de Nazaret, á quien tú persigues.

And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ He said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you persecute.’

E quelli, che eran meco, vider la luce, ma non sentiron la voce di lui, che meco parlava.

Y los que estaban conmigo vieron á la verdad la luz, y se espantaron; mas no oyeron la voz del que hablaba conmigo.

And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

“Those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they didn’t understand the voice of him who spoke to me.

Ed io dissi: Che farò io, o Signore? E il Signore mi disse: Alzati, va' in Damasco: e quivi ti sarà parlato di tutto quello, che dei fare.

Y dije: ¿Qué haré, Señor? Y el Señor me dijo: Levántate, y ve á Damasco, y allí te será dicho todo lo que te está señalado hacer.

And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ The Lord said to me, ‘Arise, and go into Damascus. There you will be told about all things which are appointed for you to do.’

E non avendo uso degli occhi per cagione del chiarore di quella luce, menato a mano da' compagni giunsi a Damasco.

Y como yo no viese por causa de la claridad de la luz, llevado de la mano por los que estaban conmigo, vine á Damasco.

And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.

When I couldn’t see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came into Damascus.

E un certo Anania, uomo pio secondo la legge, lodato per testimonianza di tutti i Giudei, che ivi dimorano,

Entonces un Ananías, varón pío conforme á la ley, que tenía buen testimonio de todos los Judíos que allí moraban,

And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,

“One Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the Jews who lived in Damascus,

Venuto da me, e standomi davanti, disse: Saulo fratello apri gli occhi. E io nello stesso punto lo mirai.

Viniendo á mí, y acercándose, me dijo: Hermano Saulo, recibe la vista. Y yo en aquella hora le miré.

Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.

came to me, and standing by me said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ In that very hour I looked up at him.

Ed egli disse: il Dio de' padri nostri ti ha preordinato a conoscer la sua volontà, e a vedere il giusto, e a udire la voce della sua bocca:

Y él dijo: El Dios de nuestros padres te ha predestinado para que conocieses su voluntad, y vieses á aquel Justo, y oyeses la voz de su boca.

And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.

He said, ‘The God of our fathers has appointed you to know his will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice from his mouth.

Conciossiachè sarai testimone a lui presso tutti gli uomini di quelle cose, che hai vedute, e udite.

Porque has de ser testigo suyo á todos los hombres, de lo que has visto y oído.

For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

For you will be a witness for him to all men of what you have seen and heard.

E ora che aspetti tu? Sorgi, e sii battezzato, e lava i tuoi peccati, invocato il nome di lui.

Ahora pues, ¿por qué te detienes? Levántate, y bautízate, y lava tus pecados, invocando su nombre.

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Now why do you wait? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’

Ed essendo io ritornato in Gerusalemme mi avvenne, che orando nel tempio, fui rapito fuor di me stesso,

Y me aconteció, vuelto á Jerusalem, que orando en el templo, fuí arrebatado fuera de mí.

And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;

“When I had returned to Jerusalem and while I prayed in the temple, I fell into a trance

E vidi lui, che a me diceva: spicciati, ed esci presto di Gerusalemme: perché non riceveranno la tua testimonianza riguardo a me.

Y le vi que me decía: Date prisa, y sal prestamente fuera de Jerusalem; porque no recibirán tu testimonio de mí.

And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.

and saw him saying to me, ‘Hurry and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not receive testimony concerning me from you.’

E io dissi: Signore, eglino sanno, che era io, che metteva in prigione, e batteva per le sinagoghe quelli, che credevano in te:

Y yo dije: Señor, ellos saben que yo encerraba en cárcel, y hería por las sinagogas á los que creían en ti;

And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

I said, ‘Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue those who believed in you.

E mentre spargevasi il sangue di Stefano tuo testimone, io era presente, e consenziente, e custodiva le vesti di coloro, che lo uccidevano.

Y cuando se derramaba la sangre de Esteban tu testigo, yo también estaba presente, y consentía á su muerte, y guardaba las ropas de los que le mataban.

And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

When the blood of Stephen, your witness, was shed, I also was standing by, consenting to his death, and guarding the cloaks of those who killed him.’

Ed ei disse a me: va', che io ti spedirò alle nazioni rimote.

Y me dijo: Ve, porque yo te tengo que enviar lejos á los Gentiles.

And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

“He said to me, ‘Depart, for I will send you out far from here to the Gentiles.’ ”

E fino a questa parola lo ascoltavano, ma allora alzaron la voce, dicendo: togli dal mondo costui: imperocché non e giusto, ch'ei viva.

Y le oyeron hasta esta palabra: entonces alzaron la voz, diciendo: Quita de la tierra á un tal hombre, porque no conviene que viva.

And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

They listened to him until he said that; then they lifted up their voice and said, “Rid the earth of this fellow, for he isn’t fit to live!”

E gridando essi, e scagliando via le loro vesti, e gettando la polvere in aria,

Y dando ellos voces, y arrojando sus ropas y echando polvo al aire,

And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,

As they cried out, threw off their cloaks, and threw dust into the air,

Comandò il tribuno, che egli fosse menato negli alloggiamenti, e fosse flagellato, e interrogato affin di scoprire, per qual motivo così gridassero contro di lui.

Mandó el tribuno que le llevasen á la fortaleza, y ordenó que fuese examinado con azotes, para saber por qué causa clamaban así contra él.

The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.

the commanding officer commanded him to be brought into the barracks, ordering him to be examined by scourging, that he might know for what crime they shouted against him like that.

E legato che l'ebbero con corregge, disse Paolo al centurione, che gli stava davanti: è egli lecito a voi di flagellare un uomo romano non condannato?

Y como le ataron con correas, Pablo dijo al centurión que estaba presente: ¿Os es lícito azotar á un hombre Romano sin ser condenado?

And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?

When they had tied him up with straps, Paul asked the centurion who stood by, “Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and not found guilty?”

La qual cosa avendo udita, il centurione andò dal tribuno, e diegliene avviso, dicendo: che è quello, che tu sei per fare? mentre quest'uomo è cittadino Romano.

Y como el centurión oyó esto, fué y dió aviso al tribuno, diciendo: ¿Qué vas á hacer? porque este hombre es Romano.

When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman.

When the centurion heard it, he went to the commanding officer and told him, “Watch what you are about to do, for this man is a Roman!”

E portatosi da lui il tribuno, gli disse: dimmi, sei tu Romano? Ed egli disse: sì veramente.

Y viniendo el tribuno, le dijo: Dime, ¿eres tú Romano? Y él dijo: Sí.

Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman? He said, Yea.

The commanding officer came and asked him, “Tell me, are you a Roman?” He said, “Yes.”

E il tribuno rispose: io a caro prezzo ho ottenuto questa cittadinanza. E Paolo disse: io poi tale anche sono nato.

Y respondió el tribuno: Yo con grande suma alcancé esta ciudadanía. Entonces Pablo dijo: Pero yo lo soy de nacimiento.

And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.

The commanding officer answered, “I bought my citizenship for a great price.” Paul said, “But I was born a Roman.”

Subito adunque si ritiraron da lui quelli, che stavan per batterlo. E lo stesso tribuno ebbe paura, dopo che seppe esser lui cittadino Romano, anche perché lo aveva legato.

Así que, luego se apartaron de él los que le habían de atormentar: y aun el tribuno también tuvo temor, entendido que era Romano, por haberle atado.

Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.

Immediately those who were about to examine him departed from him, and the commanding officer also was afraid when he realized that he was a Roman, because he had bound him.

E il dì seguente volendo cerziorarsi del motivo, per cui fosse accusato da' Giudei, lo disciolse, e ordinò, che si adunassero i sacerdoti, e tutto il sinedrio, e menato fuora Paolo, lo pose loro dinanzi. Paolo dinanzi a' sacerdoti, e a tutto il consiglio dice al principe de’ sacerdoti (il quale avea comandato, che gli fosse dato uno schiaffo), che egli è una muraglia imbiancata, ma li scusa, dicendo di non aver saputo, che quegli fosse il principe de' sacerdoti. Avendo detto, se essere Fariseo, ed essere in giudizio per la causa della risurrezione de' morte, ne nasce gran contesa tra i Farisei, e i Sadduccei. Il Signore la notte incoraggisce Paolo, predicatologli, che anche in Roma lo confesserà. Scopertasi una congiura di molte persone per togliere la vita a Paolo, il tribuno lo manda a Cesarea attorniato da' soldati al preside Felice con una lettera, che è qui riportata.

Y al día siguiente, queriendo saber de cierto la causa por qué era acusado de los Judíos, le soltó de las prisiones, y mandó venir á los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y á todo su concilio: y sacando á Pablo, le presentó delante de ellos.

On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.

But on the next day, desiring to know the truth about why he was accused by the Jews, he freed him from the bonds and commanded the chief priests and all the council to come together, and brought Paul down and set him before them.
