Or egli avvenne, che mentre Apollo era in Corinto, Paolo, scorse le provincie superiori, giunse ad Efeso, e vi trovò alcuni discepoli:

Y ACONTECIÓ que entre tanto que Apolos estaba en Corinto, Pablo, andadas las regiones superiores, vino á Efeso, y hallando ciertos discípulos,

And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

E disse loro: Avete voi ricevuto lo Spirito santo dopo, che avete creduto? Ma quelli gli dissero: Non abbiamo nemmeno sentito a dire, se siavi lo Spirito santo.

Díjoles: ¿Habéis recibido el Espíritu Santo después que creísteis? Y ellos le dijeron: Antes ni aun hemos oído si hay Espíritu Santo.

He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

Ed egli gli disse: in (nome di) chi adunque siete stati battezzati? E quelli dissero: Col battesimo di Giovanni.

Entonces dijo: ¿En qué pues sois bautizados? Y ellos dijeron: En el bautismo de Juan.

And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

He said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”

Ma disse Paolo: Giovanni battezzò con battesimo di penitenza il popolo dicendo, che credessero in quello, il quale dovea venir dopo di lui, cioè in Gesù.

Y dijo Pablo: Juan bautizó con bautismo de arrepentimiento, diciendo al pueblo que creyesen en el que había de venir después de él, es á saber, en Jesús el Cristo.

Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

Paul said, “John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Christ Jesus.”

Udite tali cose furono battezzati nel nome del Signore Gesù.

E avendo Paolo imposte loro le mani, venne sopra di essi lo Spirito santo, e parlavan le lingue, e profetavano.

And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

Ma indurandosi alcuni, e non credendo, e dicendo male della via del Signore dinanzi alla moltitudine, ritiratosi da coloro, segregò i discepoli, e disputava ogni di nella scuola di un certo Tiranno.

Mas endureciéndose algunos y no creyendo, maldiciendo el Camino delante de la multitud, apartándose Pablo de ellos separó á los discípulos, disputando cada día en la escuela de un cierto Tyranno.

But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

E ciò fu per due anni, talmente che tutti quelli, che abitavan nell'Asia, udirono la parola del Signore e Giudei, e Greci.

Y esto fué por espacio de dos años; de manera que todos los que habitaban en Asia, Judíos y Griegos, oyeron la palabra del Señor Jesús.

And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

E miracoli non ordinari faceva Dio per mano di Paolo:

Di modo che persino portavansi ai malati i fazzoletti, e le fasce state sul corpo di lui, e partivansi da essi le malattie, e gli spiriti cattivi ne uscivano.

De tal manera que aun se llevaban sobre los enfermos los sudarios y los pañuelos de su cuerpo, y las enfermedades se iban de ellos, y los malos espíritus salían de ellos.

So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

E si provarono anche alcuni di que', che andavano attorno esorcisti Giudei, ad invocare il nome del Signore Gesù sopra coloro, che avevano degli spiriti cattivi, dicendo: Vi scongiuro per quel Gesù predicato da Paolo.

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

Que', che facevan questo, erano sette figli di Sceva Giudeo principe de' sacerdoti.

And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

Ma il malo spirito rispose, e disse loro: Conosco Gesù, e so chi è Paolo: ma voi chi siete?

E saltato loro adosso quell'uomo, in cui era lo spirito pessimo, e potendone più di loro due, gli strapazzò in guisa, che ignudi, e feriti si partirono da quella casa.

E questa cosa la riseppero e i Giudei tutti, e i Gentili, che abitavano in Efeso: ed entrò in tutti loro timore, e magnificavasi il nome del Signore Gesù.

And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

E molti di quelli, che aveano creduto, venivano a confessare, e manifestare le opere loro.

Y muchos de los que habían creído, venían, confesando y dando cuenta de sus hechos.

And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

Così cresceva forte, e si stabiliva la parola di Dio.

Terminate queste cose, propose Paolo in ispirito, girata la Macedonia, e l'Acaja, di andare a Gerusalemme, dicendo: Dopo che io sarò stato là, bisogna, ch'io vegga anche Roma.

Y acabadas estas cosas, se propuso Pablo en espíritu partir á Jerusalem, después de andada Macedonia y Acaya, diciendo: Después que hubiere estado allá, me será menester ver también á Roma.

After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

E allora nacque non piccol tumulto per cagione della via del Signore.

Entonces hubo un alboroto no pequeño acerca del Camino.

And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

Imperocché un certo orefice, per nome Demetrio, il quale faceva in argento dei templi di Diana, dava non poco guadagno agli artigiani.

For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

Convocati i quali, e quelli, che di cose simili lavoravano, disse: O uomini, voi sapete, che da questo lavorio vien la nostra ricchezza;

A los cuales, reunidos con los oficiales de semejante oficio, dijo: Varones, sabéis que de este oficio tenemos ganancia;

Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

E vedete, e sentite, che non solo in Efeso, ma in quasi tutta l'Asia, questo Paolo con sue persuasioni ha fatto cambiare di sentimento a molta gente, affermando, che non son dei que', che si fan con le mani.

Y veis y oís que este Pablo, no solamente en Efeso, sino á muchas gentes de casi toda el Asia, ha apartado con persuasión, diciendo, que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos.

Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

You see and hear that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods that are made with hands.

E non solo è pericolo, che questa nostra professione vituperevole divenga, ma di più, il tempio della grande Diana sarà contato per niente, e comincerà a distruggersi la maestà di lei, cui l'Asia tutta, e il mondo adora.

Y no solamente hay peligro de que este negocio se nos vuelva en reproche, sino también que el templo de la gran diosa Diana sea estimado en nada, y comience á ser destruída su majestad, la cual honra toda el Asia y el mundo.

So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships.”

Udito questo, coloro si riempirono di sdegno, e sclamaron, dicendo: Gran Diana degli Efesini.

Oídas estas cosas, llenáronse de ira, y dieron alarido, diciendo: ¡Grande es Diana de los Efesios!

And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

E si riempiè la città di confusione, e corser tutti d'accordo al teatro, strascinando Gaio, e Aristarco Macedoni, compagni di Paolo.

Y la ciudad se llenó de confusión; y unánimes se arrojaron al teatro, arrebatando á Gayo y á Aristarco, Macedonios, compañeros de Pablo.

And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

E volendo Paolo affacciarsi al popolo, nol permisero i discepoli.

Alcuni eziandio degli Asiarchi, che erangli amici, mandarono a pregarlo, che non si esponesse al teatro:

And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

E quelli gridavano chi in un modo, e chi in un altro: essendo la adunanza in confusione, e i più non sapevano il perché si fossero adunati.

Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

Ma subito che l'ebber conosciuto per Giudeo, si fecer di tutti una sola voce, che per quasi due ore gridavano: Gran Diana degli Efesini.

Mas como conocieron que era Judío, fué hecha un voz de todos, que gritaron casi por dos horas: ¡Grande es Diana de los Efesios!

But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

E avendo il segretario calmata la turba, disse: Uomini Efesini, e qual è uomo, che non sappia, che la città di Efeso è adoratrice della grande Diana, prole di Giove?

Entonces el escribano, apaciguado que hubo la gente, dijo: Varones Efesios, ¿y quién hay de los hombres que no sepa que la ciudad de los Efesios es honradora de la gran diosa Diana, y de la imagen venida de Júpiter?

And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, “You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?

Non potendo adunque contraddirsi a questo, convenevol cosa si 0, che voi vi acquietiate, e nulla facciate temerariamente.

Así que, pues esto no puede ser contradicho, conviene que os apacigüéis, y que nada hagáis temerariamente;

Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

Seeing then that these things can’t be denied, you ought to be quiet and to do nothing rash.

Imperocché avete condotti questi uomini né sacrileghi, né bestemmiatori della vostra dea.

Pues habéis traído á estos hombres, sin ser sacrílegos ni blasfemadores de vuestra diosa.

For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

Che se Demetrio, e gli artefici, che sono con lui, hanno da dire contro qualcheduno, vi sono i giorni, ne' quali si tien ragione, e vi sono i proconsoli, se la disputino tra di loro.

Que si Demetrio y los oficiales que están con él tienen negocio con alguno, audiencias se hacen, y procónsules hay; acúsense los unos á los otros.

Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a matter against anyone, the courts are open and there are proconsuls. Let them press charges against one another.

Che se alcun'altra cosa voi bramate, in una legittima adunanza potrà decidersi.

Y si demandáis alguna otra cosa, en legítima asamblea se pueda decidir.

But if ye enquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

But if you seek anything about other matters, it will be settled in the regular assembly.

Imperocché siamo in pericolo di essere accusati di sedizione perle cose di questo giorno: non essendovi chi abbia dato causa (di cui possiam render ragione) a questo sollevamento. E detto questo licenziò l'adunanza. Paolo scorse varie parti della Macedonia, e della Grecia, predica in Troade sino a mezzanotte; ed essendo morto Eutico giovinetto caduto dal terzo cenacolo, Paolo lo risuscitò; e scorsi varj paesi, chiamati a se i sacerdoti di Efeso, gli esorta ad esser vigilanti nel governo della Chiesa predicando loro, che non l'avrebbero più veduto.

Porque peligro hay de que seamos argüidos de sedición por hoy, no habiendo ninguna causa por la cual podamos dar razón de este concurso. Y habiendo dicho esto, despidió la concurrencia.

For we are in danger to be called in question for this day’s uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

For indeed we are in danger of being accused concerning today’s riot, there being no cause. Concerning it, we wouldn’t be able to give an account of this commotion.”
