1Er kam auch nach Derbe und Lystra. Hier war ein Jünger namens Timotheus, der Sohn einer gläubig gewordenen Jüdin und eines heidnischen Vaters.
2Die Brüder in Lystra und Ikonium stellten ihm ein gutes Zeugnis aus,
3und Paulus wünschte, ihn als Begleiter mitzunehmen. Mit Rücksicht auf die Juden, die in jenen Gegenden lebten, beschnitt er ihn; denn alle wußten, daß sein Vater ein Heide war.
4Als sie nun durch die Städte wanderten, übergaben sie ihnen die von den Aposteln und Presbytern in Jerusalem gefaßten Beschlüsse zur Beachtung.
5Die Gemeinden wurden im Glauben gestärkt und nahmen täglich an Zahl zu.
6Sie zogen dann durch Phrygien und die Landschaft von Galatien, weil ihnen vom Heiligen Geiste verwehrt wurde, das Wort Gottes in Asien zu verkünden.
7Sie kamen gegen Mysien hin und wollten nach Bithynien weitergehen, doch der Geist Jesu gestattete es ihnen nicht.
8So zogen sie denn an Mysien vorbei und kamen nach Troas hinab.
9Hier hatte Paulus in der Nacht ein Gesicht: Ein Mazedonier stand vor ihm und bat: "Komm herüber nach Mazedonien und hilf uns!"
10Nach dieser Erscheinung suchten wir alsbald nach Mazedonien hinüberzufahren, weil wir daraus schlossen, daß Gott uns gerufen habe, um dort das Evangelium zu verkünden.
11Wir fuhren von Troas ab, geradewegs nach Samothrake, am folgenden Tag nach Neapolis
12und dann von da nach Philippi. Dies ist die erste Stadt in diesem Bezirk von Mazedonien, eine Kolonie. Wir hielten uns in dieser Stadt einige Tage auf.
13Am Sabbat gingen wir vors Tor hinaus an einen Fluß, wo wir eine Gebetsstätte vermuteten. Wir setzten uns und sprachen zu den Frauen, die da zusammengekommen waren.
14Auch eine Purpurhändlerin aus der Stadt Thyatira, namens Lydia, eine gottesfürchtige Frau, hörte zu. Ihr schloß der Herr das Herz auf, daß sie der Predigt des Paulus Aufmerksamkeit schenkte.
15Sie ließ sich samt ihrer Familie taufen und bat: "Wenn ihr die Überzeugung habt, daß ich eine Jüngerin des Herrn bin, so kommt in mein Haus und wohnt dort." Und sie nötigte uns.
16Auf dem Wege zur Gebetsstätte begegnete uns eines Tages eine Magd, die einen Wahrsagegeist hatte. Sie brachte durch ihre Wahrsagekunst ihrer Herrschaft großen Gewinn.
17Sie lief hinter Paulus her und schrie: "Diese Männer sind Diener des höchsten Gottes; sie verkünden euch den Weg zum Heile."
18So machte sie es viele Tage lang. Paulus ward sehr unwillig darüber, wandte sich um und sprach zu dem Geiste: "Ich befehle dir im Namen Jesu Christi, von ihr auszufahren." Und er fuhr aus von ihr in derselben Stunde.
19Als nun ihre Herrschaft sah, daß die Aussicht auf Gewinn dahin sei, ergriffen sie Paulus und den Silas und schleppten sie auf den Marktplatz vor die Obrigkeit.
20Man führte sie vor die Stadtrichter und sprach:"Diese Menschen bringen unsere Stadt in die größte Verwirrung. Sie sind Juden
21und verkünden Gebräuche, die wir als Römer nicht annehmen noch ausüben dürfen."
22Auch die Volksmenge erhob sich gegen mit sie. Die Stadtrichter ließen ihnen die Kleider herunterreißen und sie mit Ruten schlagen.
23Nachdem sie ihnen viele Streiche hatten geben lassen, warfen sie beide ins Gefängnis und gaben dem Kerkermeister den Befehl, sie in sicherem Gewahrsam zu halten.
24Auf diese Weisung hin brachte er sie in das innere Gefängnis und spannte zur Sicherheit ihre Füße in den Block.
25Um Mitternacht sangen nun Paulus und Silas betend Gott ein Loblied. Die Gefangenen hörten ihnen zu.
26Da entstand plötzlich ein gewaltiges Erdbeben, so daß die Grundmauern des Gefängnisses erschüttert wurden. Im Nu waren alle Tore offen, und die Fesseln fielen von allen ab.
27Als der Kerkermeister erwachte und die Tore des Gefängnisses offenstehen sah, zog er sein Schwert und wollte sich das Leben nehmen in der Annahme, die Gefangenen seien entflohen.
28Paulus aber rief mit lauter Stimme: "Tu dir kein Leid an; wir sind alle noch hier."
29Er ließ sich Licht bringen, trat ein und fiel Paulus und Silas zitternd zu Füßen.
30Er führte sie heraus und fragte: "Ihr Herren, was muß ich tun, damit ich das Heil erlange?"
31Sie antworteten: "Glaube an den Herrn Jesus, alsdann wirst du samt deinem Hause das Heil erlangen."
32Dann verkündeten sie ihm und seiner ganzen Familie das Wort des Herrn.
33Noch in derselben Nachtstunde nahm er sie zu sich und wusch ihnen die Striemen ab. Auch ließ er sich sogleich samt den Seinigen taufen.
34Dann führte er sie in sein Haus und ließ ihnen ein Mahl bereiten voll Freude, daß er mit seiner Familie zum Glauben an Gott gekommen war.
35Als es Tag geworden war schickten die Stadtrichter Amtsdiener mit dem Befehle: "Laß diese Leute frei!"
36Der Kerkermeister berichtete diesen Befehl dem Paulus: "Die Stadtrichter haben hergeschickt, man solle euch freilassen; so geht denn hinaus und zieht im Frieden weiter."
37Paulus jedoch sagte zu ihnen: "Ohne Untersuchung haben sie uns, die wir doch römische Bürger sind, öffentlich schlagen und ins Gefängnis bringen lassen; und nun wollen sie uns heimlich ausweisen. Nein, sie sollen selber kommen und uns herausführen."
38Die Amtsdiener berichteten dies den Stadtrichtern. Als diese hörten, daß sie römische Bürger seien, gerieten sie in Furcht.
39Sie gingen hin, entschuldigten sich und führten sie heraus mit der Bitte, sie möchten die Stadt verlassen.
40Sie verließen das Gefängnis und begaben sich zu der Lydia. Dort trafen sie Brüder, ermunterten sie und zogen danach weiter.

1DESPUÉS llegó á Derbe, y á Listra: y he aquí, estaba allí un discípulo llamado Timoteo, hijo de una mujer Judía fiel, mas de padre Griego.
2De éste daban buen testimonio los hermanos que estaban en Listra y en Iconio.
3Este quiso Pablo que fuese con él; y tomándole, le circuncidó por causa de los Judíos que estaban en aquellos lugares; porque todos sabían que su padre era Griego.
4Y como pasaban por las ciudades, les daban que guardasen los decretos que habían sido determinados por los apóstoles y los ancianos que estaban en Jerusalem.
5Así que, las iglesias eran confirmadas en fe, y eran aumentadas en número cada día.
6Y pasando á Phrygia y la provincia de Galacia, les fué prohibido por el Espíritu Santo hablar la palabra en Asia.
7Y como vinieron á Misia, tentaron de ir á Bithynia; mas el Espíritu no les dejó.
8Y pasando á Misia, descendieron á Troas.
9Y fué mostrada á Pablo de noche una visión: Un varón Macedonio se puso delante, rogándole, y diciendo: Pasa á Macedonia, y ayúdanos.
10Y como vió la visión, luego procuramos partir á Macedonia, dando por cierto que Dios nos llamaba para que les anunciásemos el evangelio.
11Partidos pues de Troas, vinimos camino derecho á Samotracia, y el día siguiente á Neápolis;
12Y de allí á Filipos, que es la primera ciudad de la parte de Macedonia, y una colonia; y estuvimos en aquella ciudad algunos días.
13Y un día de sábado salimos de la puerta junto al río, donde solía ser la oración; y sentándonos, hablamos á las mujeres que se habían juntado.
14Entonces una mujer llamada Lidia, que vendía púrpura en la ciudad de Tiatira, temerosa de Dios, estaba oyendo; el corazón de la cual abrió el Señor para que estuviese atenta á lo que Pablo decía.
15Y cuando fué bautizada, y su familia, nos rogó, diciendo: Si habéis juzgado que yo sea fiel al Señor, entrad en mi casa, y posad: y constriñónos.
16Y aconteció, que yendo nosotros á la oración, una muchacha que tenía espíritu pitónico, nos salió al encuentro, la cual daba grande ganancia á sus amos adivinando.
17Esta, siguiendo á Pablo y á nosotros, daba voces, diciendo: Estos hombres son siervos del Dios Alto, los cuales os anuncian el camino de salud.
18Y esto hacía por muchos días; mas desagradando á Pablo, se volvió y dijo al espíritu: Te mando en el nombre de Jesucristo, que salgas de ella. Y salió en la misma hora.
19Y viendo sus amos que había salido la esperanza de su ganancia, prendieron á Pablo y á Silas, y los trajeron al foro, al magistrado;
20Y presentándolos á los magistrados, dijeron: Estos hombres, siendo Judíos, alborotan nuestra ciudad,
21Y predican ritos, los cuales no nos es lícito recibir ni hacer, pues somos Romanos.
22Y agolpóse el pueblo contra ellos: y los magistrados rompiéndoles sus ropas, les mandaron azotar con varas.
23Y después que los hubieron herido de muchos azotes, los echaron en la cárcel, mandando al carcelero que los guardase con diligencia:
24El cual, recibido este mandamiento, los metió en la cárcel de más adentro; y les apretó los pies en el cepo.
25Mas á media noche, orando Pablo y Silas, cantaban himnos á Dios: y los que estaban presos los oían.
26Entonces fué hecho de repente un gran terremoto, de tal manera que los cimientos de la cárcel se movían; y luego todas las puertas se abrieron, y las prisiones de todos se soltaron.
27Y despertado el carcelero, como vió abiertas las puertas de la cárcel, sacando la espada se quería matar, pensando que los presos se habían huído.
28Mas Pablo clamó á gran voz, diciendo: No te hagas ningún mal; que todos estamos aquí.
29El entonces pidiendo luz, entró dentro, y temblando, derribóse á los pies de Pablo y de Silas;
30Y sacándolos fuera, les dice: Señores, ¿qué es menester que yo haga para ser salvo?
31Y ellos dijeron: Cree en el Señor Jesucristo, y serás salvo tú, y tu casa.
32Y le hablaron la palabra del Señor, y á todos los que estaban en su casa.
33Y tomándolos en aquella misma hora de la noche, les lavó los azotes; y se bautizó luego él, y todos los suyos.
34Y llevándolos á su casa, les puso la mesa: y se gozó de que con toda su casa había creído á Dios.
35Y como fué de día, los magistrados enviaron los alguaciles, diciendo: Deja ir á aquellos hombres.
36Y el carcelero hizo saber estas palabras á Pablo: Los magistrados han enviado á decir que seáis sueltos: así que ahora salid, é id en paz.
37Entonces Pablo les dijo: Azotados públicamente sin ser condenados, siendo hombres Romanos, nos echaron en la cárcel; y ¿ahora nos echan encubiertamente? No, de cierto, sino vengan ellos y sáquennos.
38Y los alguaciles volvieron á decir á los magistrados estas palabras: y tuvieron miedo, oído que eran Romanos.
39Y viniendo, les rogaron; y sacándolos, les pidieron que se saliesen de la ciudad.
40Entonces salidos de la cárcel, entraron en casa de Lidia; y habiendo visto á los hermanos, los consolaron, y se salieron.

1Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
2Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
3Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.
4And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
5And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
6Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
7After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
8And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.
9And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
10And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.
11Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;
12And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
13And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
14And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
15And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.
16And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
18And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
19And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,
20And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
21And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.
22And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.
23And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
24Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
25And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
26And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
27And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
28But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
29Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
30And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
34And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
35And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.
36And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.
37But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.
38And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.
39And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.
40And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

1He came to Derbe and Lystra; and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewess who believed, but his father was a Greek.
2The brothers who were at Lystra and Iconium gave a good testimony about him.
3Paul wanted to have him go out with him, and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
4As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered the decrees to them to keep which had been ordained by the apostles and elders who were at Jerusalem.
5So the assemblies were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.
6When they had gone through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.
7When they had come opposite Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit didn’t allow them.

11Setting sail therefore from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis;
12and from there to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the foremost of the district, a Roman colony. We were staying some days in this city.
13On the Sabbath day we went outside of the city by a riverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and spoke to the women who had come together.
14A certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one who worshiped God, heard us. The Lord opened her heart to listen to the things which were spoken by Paul.
15When she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay.” So she persuaded us.
16As we were going to prayer, a certain girl having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by fortune telling.
17Following Paul and us, she cried out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us a way of salvation!”
18She was doing this for many days. But Paul, becoming greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” It came out that very hour.
19But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.
20When they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men, being Jews, are agitating our city
21and advocate customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans.”
22The multitude rose up together against them and the magistrates tore their clothes from them, then commanded them to be beaten with rods.
23When they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely.
24Having received such a command, he threw them into the inner prison and secured their feet in the stocks.
25But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
26Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were loosened.
27The jailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.
28But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, “Don’t harm yourself, for we are all here!”
29He called for lights, sprang in, fell down trembling before Paul and Silas,
30brought them out, and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
32They spoke the word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in his house.
33He took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes, and was immediately baptized, he and all his household.
34He brought them up into his house and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly with all his household, having believed in God.
35But when it was day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying, “Let those men go.”
36The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore come out and go in peace.”
37But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us publicly without a trial, men who are Romans, and have cast us into prison! Do they now release us secretly? No, most certainly, but let them come themselves and bring us out!”
38The sergeants reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans,
39and they came and begged them. When they had brought them out, they asked them to depart from the city.
40They went out of the prison and entered into Lydia’s house. When they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them, then departed.
