1Es waren aber zu Antiochia in der dortigen Gemeinde etliche Propheten und Lehrer, nämlich Barnabas und Simeon, genannt Niger, und Lucius von Kyrene und Manahen, der mit dem Vierfürsten Herodes erzogen worden war, und Saulus.
2Als sie nun dem Herrn dienten und fasteten, sprach der heilige Geist: Sondert mir Barnabas und Saulus aus zu dem Werk, zu welchem ich sie berufen habe!
3Da fasteten und beteten sie, legten ihnen die Hände auf und ließen sie ziehen.
4Diese nun, vom heiligen Geist ausgesandt, zogen hinab gen Seleucia und fuhren von dort zu Schiff nach Cypern.
5Und in Salamis angekommen, verkündigten sie das Wort Gottes in den Synagogen der Juden. Sie hatten aber auch Johannes zum Diener.
6Und als sie die ganze Insel bis nach Paphos durchzogen hatten, fanden sie einen jüdischen Zauberer und falschen Propheten, namens Barjesus,
7welcher bei dem Statthalter Sergius Paulus war, einem verständigen Mann. Dieser ließ Barnabas und Saulus holen und begehrte das Wort Gottes zu hören.
8Aber es widersetzte sich ihnen Elymas, der Zauberer (denn so wird sein Name übersetzt), und suchte den Statthalter vom Glauben abzuhalten.
9Saulus aber, der auch Paulus heißt, voll heiligen Geistes, blickte ihn an
10und sprach: O du Kind des Teufels, voll von aller List und aller Schalkheit, Feind aller Gerechtigkeit, wirst du nicht aufhören, die geraden Wege des Herrn zu verkehren?
11Und nun siehe, die Hand des Herrn kommt über dich, und du wirst blind sein und die Sonne nicht sehen eine Zeitlang. Alsbald aber fiel Dunkel und Finsternis auf ihn, und er tappte umher und suchte Leute, die ihn führen könnten.
12Als nun der Statthalter sah, was geschehen war, wurde er gläubig, betroffen von der Lehre des Herrn.
13Paulus aber und seine Gefährten fuhren von Paphos ab und kamen nach Perge in Pamphylien; Johannes aber trennte sich von ihnen und kehrte nach Jerusalem zurück.
14Sie aber zogen von Perge weiter und kamen nach Antiochia in Pisidien und gingen am Sabbattag in die Synagoge und setzten sich.
15Und nach der Vorlesung des Gesetzes und der Propheten ließen die Obersten der Synagoge ihnen sagen: Ihr Männer und Brüder, habt ihr ein Wort der Ermahnung an das Volk, so redet!
16Da stand Paulus auf und winkte mit der Hand und sprach: Ihr israelitischen Männer, und die ihr Gott fürchtet, höret zu!
17Der Gott dieses Volkes Israel erwählte unsre Väter und erhöhte das Volk, da sie Fremdlinge waren im Lande Ägypten, und mit erhobenem Arm führte er sie von dort heraus.
18Und er trug sie etwa vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste
19und vertilgte sieben Völker im Lande Kanaan und gab ihnen deren Land zum Erbe.
20Und darnach, während etwa vierhundertfünfzig Jahren, gab er ihnen Richter bis auf Samuel, den Propheten.
21Und von da an begehrten sie einen König, und Gott gab ihnen Saul, den Sohn des Kis, einen Mann aus dem Stamme Benjamin, vierzig Jahre lang.
22Und nachdem er ihn auf die Seite gesetzt hatte, erweckte er ihnen David zum König, von dem er auch Zeugnis gab und sprach: «Ich habe David gefunden, den Sohn des Jesse, einen Mann nach meinem Herzen, der allen meinen Willen tun wird.»
23Von dessen Nachkommen hat nun Gott nach der Verheißung Jesus als Retter für Israel erweckt,
24nachdem Johannes vor seinem Auftreten dem ganzen Volk Israel die Taufe der Buße gepredigt hatte.
25Als aber Johannes seinen Lauf vollendete, sprach er: Der, für den ihr mich haltet, bin ich nicht; doch siehe, es kommt einer nach mir, für den ich nicht gut genug bin, die Schuhe seiner Füße zu lösen!
26Ihr Männer und Brüder, Söhne des Geschlechtes Abrahams, und die unter euch Gott fürchten, an euch ist dieses Wort des Heils gesandt.
27Denn die, welche in Jerusalem wohnen, und ihre Obersten haben diesen nicht erkannt und haben die Stimmen der Propheten, die an jedem Sabbat gelesen werden, durch ihr Urteil erfüllt.
28Und obgleich sie keine Todesschuld fanden, verlangten sie doch von Pilatus, daß er hingerichtet werde.
29Und nachdem sie alles vollendet hatten, was von ihm geschrieben steht, nahmen sie ihn vom Holze herab und legten ihn in eine Gruft.
30Gott aber hat ihn von den Toten auferweckt.
31Und er ist mehrere Tage hindurch denen erschienen, die mit ihm aus Galiläa nach Jerusalem hinaufgezogen waren, welche nun seine Zeugen sind vor dem Volk.
32Und wir verkündigen euch das Evangelium von der den Vätern zuteil gewordenen Verheißung, daß Gott diese für uns, ihre Kinder, erfüllt hat, indem er Jesus auferweckte.
33Wie auch im zweiten Psalm geschrieben steht: «Du bist mein Sohn, heute habe ich dich gezeugt.»
34Daß er ihn aber von den Toten auferweckte, so daß er nicht mehr zur Verwesung zurückkehren sollte, hat er so ausgesprochen: «Ich will euch die gewissen Heiligtümer Davids geben.»
35Darum spricht er auch an einem andern Ort: «Du wirst nicht zugeben, daß dein Heiliger die Verwesung sehe.»
36Denn David ist, nachdem er zu seiner Zeit dem Willen Gottes gedient hat, entschlafen und zu seinen Vätern versammelt worden und hat die Verwesung gesehen.
37Der aber, den Gott auferweckte, hat die Verwesung nicht gesehen.
38So sei euch nun kund, ihr Männer und Brüder, daß euch durch diesen Vergebung der Sünden verkündigt wird;
39und von allem, wovon ihr durch das Gesetz Moses nicht gerechtfertigt werden konntet, wird durch diesen jeder gerechtfertigt, der da glaubt.
40So sehet nun zu, daß nicht über euch komme, was in den Propheten gesagt ist:
41«Sehet, ihr Verächter, und verwundert euch und verschwindet, denn ich tue ein Werk in euren Tagen, ein Werk, das ihr nicht glauben werdet, wenn es euch jemand erzählt!»
42Als sie aber aus der Versammlung gingen, bat man sie, daß ihnen diese Worte auch am nächsten Sabbat gepredigt werden möchten.
43Nachdem aber die Versammlung in der Synagoge sich aufgelöst hatte, folgten viele Juden und gottesfürchtige Proselyten dem Paulus und Barnabas nach, welche zu ihnen redeten und sie ermahnten, bei der Gnade Gottes zu beharren.
44Und am folgenden Sabbat versammelte sich fast die ganze Stadt, um das Wort Gottes zu hören.
45Als aber die Juden die Volksmenge sahen, wurden sie voll Eifersucht und widersprachen dem, was Paulus sagte, und lästerten.
46Da sprachen Paulus und Barnabas freimütig: Euch mußte das Wort Gottes zuerst gepredigt werden; da ihr es aber von euch stoßet und euch selbst des ewigen Lebens nicht würdig achtet, siehe, so wenden wir uns zu den Heiden.
47Denn also hat uns der Herr geboten: «Ich habe dich zum Licht der Heiden gesetzt, daß du zum Heil seiest bis an das Ende der Erde!»
48Als die Heiden das hörten, wurden sie froh und priesen das Wort des Herrn, und es wurden gläubig, soviele ihrer zum ewigen Leben verordnet waren.
49Das Wort des Herrn aber wurde durch das ganze Land getragen.
50Aber die Juden reizten die andächtigen und angesehenen Frauen und die Vornehmsten der Stadt auf und erregten eine Verfolgung gegen Paulus und Barnabas und vertrieben sie aus ihrem Gebiet.
51Sie aber schüttelten den Staub von ihren Füßen gegen sie ab und gingen nach Ikonium.
52Die Jünger aber wurden voll Freude und heiligen Geistes.

1HABÍA entonces en la iglesia que estaba en Antioquía, profetas y doctores: Bernabé, y Simón el que se llamaba Niger, y Lucio Cireneo, y Manahén, que había sido criado con Herodes el tetrarca, y Saulo.
2Ministrando pues éstos al Señor, y ayunando, dijo el Espíritu Santo: Apartadme á Bernabé y á Saulo para la obra para la cual los he llamado.
3Entonces habiendo ayunado y orado, y puesto las manos encima de ellos, despidiéronlos.
4Y ellos, enviados así por el Espíritu Santo, descendieron á Seleucia; y de allí navegaron á Cipro.
5Y llegados á Salamina, anunciaban la palabra de Dios en las sinagogas de los Judíos: y tenían también á Juan en el ministerio.
6Y habiendo atravesado toda la isla hasta Papho, hallaron un hombre mago, falso profeta, Judío, llamado Barjesús;
7El cual estaba con el procónsul Sergio Paulo, varón prudente. Este, llamando á Bernabé y á Saulo, deseaba oir la palabra de Dios.
8Mas les resistía Elimas el encantador (que así se interpreta su nombre), procurando apartar de la fe al procónsul.
9Entonces Saulo, que también es Pablo, lleno del Espíritu Santo, poniendo en él los ojos,
10Dijo: Oh, lleno de todo engaño y de toda maldad, hijo del diablo, enemigo de toda justicia, ¿no cesarás de trastornar los caminos rectos del Señor?
11Ahora pues, he aquí la mano del Señor es contra ti, y serás ciego, que no veas el sol por tiempo. Y luego cayeron en él obscuridad y tinieblas; y andando alrededor, buscaba quién le condujese por la mano.
12Entonces el procónsul, viendo lo que había sido hecho, creyó, maravillado de la doctrina del Señor.
13Y partidos de Papho, Pablo y sus compañeros arribaron á Perge de Pamphylia: entonces Juan, apartándose de ellos, se volvió á Jerusalem.
14Y ellos pasando de Perge, llegaron á Antioquía de Pisidia, y entrando en la sinagoga un día de sábado, sentáronse.
15Y después de la lectura de la ley y de los profetas, los príncipes de la sinagoga enviaron á ellos, diciendo: Varones hermanos, si tenéis alguna palabra de exhortación para el pueblo, hablad.
16Entonces Pablo, levantándose, hecha señal de silencio con la mano, dice: Varones Israelitas, y los que teméis á Dios, oid:
17El Dios del pueblo de Israel escogió á nuestros padres, y ensalzó al pueblo, siendo ellos extranjeros en la tierra de Egipto, y con brazo levantado los sacó de ella.
18Y por tiempo como de cuarenta años soportó sus costumbres en el desierto;
19Y destruyendo siete naciones en la tierra de Canaán, les repartió por suerte la tierra de ellas.
20Y después, como por cuatrocientos y cincuenta años, dióles jueces hasta el profeta Samuel.
21Y entonces demandaron rey; y les dió Dios á Saúl, hijo de Cis, varón de la tribu de Benjamín, por cuarenta años.
22Y quitado aquél, levantóles por rey á David, al que dió también testimonio, diciendo: He hallado á David, hijo de Jessé, varón conforme á mi corazón, el cual hará todo lo que yo quiero.
23De la simiente de éste, Dios, conforme á la promesa, levantó á Jesús por Salvador á Israel;
24Predicando Juan delante de la faz de su venida el bautismo de arrepentimiento á todo el pueblo de Israel.
25Mas como Juan cumpliese su carrera, dijo: ¿Quién pensáis que soy? No soy yo él; mas he aquí, viene tras mí uno, cuyo calzado de los pies no soy digno de desatar.
26Varones hermanos, hijos del linaje de Abraham, y los que entre vosotros temen á Dios, á vosotros es enviada la palabra de esta salud.
27Porque los que habitaban en Jerusalem, y sus príncipes, no conociendo á éste, y las voces de los profetas que se leen todos los sábados, condenándole, las cumplieron.
28Y sin hallar en él causa de muerte, pidieron á Pilato que le matasen.
29Y habiendo cumplido todas las cosas que de él estaban escritas, quitándolo del madero, lo pusieron en el sepulcro.
30Mas Dios le levantó de los muertos.
31Y él fué visto por muchos días de los que habían subido juntamente con él de Galilea á Jerusalem, los cuales son sus testigos al pueblo.
32Y nosotros también os anunciamos el evangelio de aquella promesa que fué hecha á los padres,
33La cual Dios ha cumplido á los hijos de ellos, á nosotros, resucitando á Jesús: como también en el salmo segundo está escrito: Mi hijo eres tú, yo te he engendrado hoy.
34Y que le levantó de los muertos para nunca más volver á corrupción, así lo dijo: Os daré las misericordias fieles de David.
35Por eso dice también en otro lugar: No permitirás que tu Santo vea corrupción.
36Porque á la verdad David, habiendo servido en su edad á la voluntad de Dios, durmió, y fué juntado con sus padres, y vió corrupción:
37Mas aquel que Dios levantó, no vió corrupción.
38Séaos pues notorio, varones hermanos, que por éste os es anunciada remisión de pecados;
39Y de todo lo que por la ley de Moisés no pudisteis ser justificados, en éste es justificado todo aquel que creyere.
40Mirad, pues, que no venga sobre vosotros lo que está dicho en los profetas;
41Mirad, oh menospreciadores, y entonteceos, y desvaneceos; porque yo obro una obra en vuestros días, obra que no creeréis, si alguien os la contare.
42Y saliendo ellos de la sinagoga de los Judíos, los Gentiles les rogaron que el sábado siguiente les hablasen estas palabras.
43Y despedida la congregación, muchos de los Judíos y de los religiosos prosélitos siguieron á Pablo y á Bernabé; los cuales hablándoles, les persuadían que permaneciesen en la gracia de Dios.
44Y el sábado siguiente se juntó casi toda la ciudad á oir la palabra de Dios.
45Mas los Judíos, visto el gentío, llenáronse de celo, y se oponían á lo que Pablo decía, contradiciendo y blasfemando.
46Entonces Pablo y Bernabé, usando de libertad, dijeron: A vosotros á la verdad era menester que se os hablase la palabra de Dios; mas pues que la desecháis, y os juzgáis indignos de la vida eterna, he aquí, nos volvemos á los Gentiles.
47Porque así nos ha mandado el Señor, diciendo: Te he puesto para luz de los Gentiles, para que seas salud hasta lo postrero de la tierra.
48Y los Gentiles oyendo esto, fueron gozosos, y glorificaban la palabra del Señor: y creyeron todos los que estaban ordenados para vida eterna.
49Y la palabra del Señor era sembrada por toda aquella provincia.
50Mas los Judíos concitaron mujeres pías y honestas, y á los principales de la ciudad, y levantaron persecución contra Pablo y Bernabé, y los echaron de sus términos.
51Ellos entonces sacudiendo en ellos el polvo de sus pies, vinieron á Iconio.
52Y los discípulos estaban llenos de gozo, y del Espíritu Santo.

1Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
3And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
4So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.
5And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.
6And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus:
7Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
8But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
9Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,
10And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
11And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.
12Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.
13Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
14But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
15And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
16Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
17The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
18And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
19And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.
20And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
21And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
22And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
23Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
24When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
25And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
26Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.
27For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
28And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
29And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.
30But God raised him from the dead:
31And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.
32And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
33God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
34And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.
35Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
36For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
37But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
38Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
39And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
40Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;
41Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.
42And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
43Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
45But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
46Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
47For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
48And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
49And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.
50But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.
51But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.
52And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.

1Now in the assembly that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them.”
3Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
4So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus.
5When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed God’s word in the Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their attendant.
6When they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar Jesus,
7who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.
8But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.
9But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him
10and said, “You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
11Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
12Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.
13Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.
14But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down.
15After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.”
16Paul stood up, and gesturing with his hand said, “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen.
17The God of this people chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as aliens in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it.
18For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.
19When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance for about four hundred fifty years.
20After these things, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.
21Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.
22When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’
23From this man’s offspring, God has brought salvation to Israel according to his promise,
24before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to Israel.
25As John was fulfilling his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’
26“Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.
27For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.
28Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed.
29When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.
30But God raised him from the dead,
31and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people.
32We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers,
33that God has fulfilled this to us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son. Today I have become your father.’
34“Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’
35Therefore he says also in another psalm, ‘You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.’
36For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was laid with his fathers, and saw decay.
37But he whom God raised up saw no decay.
38Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins;
39and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
40Beware therefore, lest that come on you which is spoken in the prophets:
41‘Behold, you scoffers! Wonder and perish, for I work a work in your days, a work which you will in no way believe, if one declares it to you.’”
42So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.
43Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.
44The next Sabbath, almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.
45But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.
46Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, “It was necessary that God’s word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.
47For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.’”
48As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God. As many as were appointed to eternal life believed.
49The Lord’s word was spread abroad throughout all the region.
50But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their borders.
51But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.
52The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
