1Il y avait dans l'Église d'Antioche quelques prophètes et docteurs, Barnabas, Siméon appelé Niger, Lucius le Cyrénéen, Manahem, élevé avec Hérode le tétrarque, et Saul.
2Pendant qu'ils célébraient le culte du Seigneur, et qu'ils jeûnaient, le Saint-Esprit leur dit: Mettez à part pour moi Barnabas et Saul, en vue de l'ouvre à laquelle je les ai appelés.
3Alors ayant jeûné et prié, ils leur imposèrent les mains, et les firent partir.
4Eux donc, envoyés par le Saint-Esprit, descendirent à Séleucie, et de là s'embarquèrent pour Cypre.
5Et étant arrivés à Salamine, ils annoncèrent la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs, et ils avaient aussi Jean pour les aider.
6Ayant ensuite traversé l'île jusqu'à Paphos, ils trouvèrent un certain Juif, magicien et faux prophète, nommé Barjésus,
7Qui était avec le proconsul Sergius Paulus, homme intelligent. Celui-ci, ayant fait appeler Barnabas et Saul, désira entendre la parole de Dieu.
8Mais Élymas, le magicien, car c'est ainsi que se traduit son nom, leur résistait, tâchant de détourner le proconsul de la foi.
9Mais Saul, qui est aussi appelé Paul, rempli du Saint-Esprit, et ayant les yeux fixés sur lui, dit:
10O toi, qui es plein de toute fraude et de toute méchanceté, fils du diable, ennemi de toute justice, ne cesseras-tu point de pervertir les voies droites du Seigneur?
11Et voici, dès maintenant la main du Seigneur est sur toi, et tu seras aveugle, et tu ne verras point le soleil, pour un temps. Et à l'instant, l'obscurité et les ténèbres tombèrent sur lui; et tournant çà et là, il cherchait un guide.
12Alors le proconsul, voyant ce qui était arrivé, crut, étant rempli d'admiration pour la doctrine du Seigneur.
13Et Paul et ceux qui étaient avec lui, s'étant embarqués à Paphos, vinrent à Perge en Pamphylie. Mais Jean, s'étant séparé d'eux, revint à Jérusalem.
14Pour eux, étant partis de Perge, ils vinrent à Antioche de Pisidie; et étant entrés dans la synagogue, le jour du sabbat, ils s'assirent.
15Et après la lecture de la loi et des prophètes, les principaux de la synagogue leur envoyèrent dire: Hommes frères, si vous avez quelque exhortation à faire au peuple, faites-la.
16Alors Paul s'étant levé, et ayant fait signe de la main, dit: Hommes Israélites, et vous qui craignez Dieu, écoutez.
17Le Dieu de ce peuple d'Israël choisit nos pères, et releva ce peuple, pendant son séjour dans le pays d'Égypte, et les en fit sortir à bras élevé.
18Et il les supporta et les nourrit dans le désert, l'espace d'environ quarante ans.
19Et ayant détruit sept nations au pays de Canaan, il leur distribua leur pays par le sort.
20Et après cela, durant quatre cent cinquante ans environ, il leur donna des juges, jusqu'au prophète Samuel.
21Ensuite ils demandèrent un roi, et Dieu leur donna Saül, fils de Kis, de la tribu de Benjamin, pendant quarante ans.
22Et Dieu l'ayant rejeté, leur suscita David pour roi, auquel il rendit ce témoignage, en disant: J'ai trouvé David, fils de Jessé, homme selon mon cour, qui accomplira toutes mes volontés.
23C'est de sa postérité que Dieu, selon sa promesse, a suscité Jésus, le Sauveur d'Israël.
24Avant qu'il parût, Jean avait prêché le baptême de la repentance à tout le peuple d'Israël.
25Et lorsque Jean achevait sa course, il disait: Qui pensez-vous que je sois? Je ne suis pas le Christ; mais après moi, vient celui des pieds duquel je ne suis pas digne de délier les souliers.
26C'est à vous, hommes frères, enfants de la race d'Abraham, et à vous qui craignez Dieu, que cette parole de salut est adressée.
27Car les habitants de Jérusalem et leurs magistrats, l'ayant méconnu, ont accompli, en le condamnant, les paroles des prophètes, qui se lisent chaque jour de sabbat.
28Et sans avoir aucun motif de le mettre à mort, ils demandèrent à Pilate de le faire mourir.
29Puis quand ils eurent accompli tout ce qui a été écrit de lui, on l'ôta du bois, et on le mit dans un sépulcre.
30Mais Dieu l'a ressuscité des morts;
31Et il a été vu, pendant plusieurs jours, de ceux qui étaient montés avec lui de Galilée à Jérusalem, lesquels sont ses témoins devant le peuple.
32Et nous aussi, nous vous annonçons la bonne nouvelle que la promesse qui avait été faite à nos pères,
33Dieu l'a accomplie pour nous leurs enfants, lorsqu'il a suscité Jésus; comme il est écrit dans le psaume second: Tu es mon fils, je t'ai engendré aujourd'hui.
34Mais qu'il l'ait ressuscité des morts, de telle sorte qu'il ne retourne plus à la corruption, il en a parlé ainsi: Je vous tiendrai fidèlement les promesses sacrées faites à David.
35C'est pourquoi il dit aussi dans un autre psaume: Tu ne permettras point que ton Saint voie la corruption.
36Or David, après avoir servi en son temps au dessein de Dieu, est mort, et a été mis avec ses pères, et a vu la corruption;
37Mais celui que Dieu a ressuscité, n'a point vu la corruption.
38Sachez donc, hommes frères, que c'est par lui que la rémission des péchés vous est annoncée;
39Et que c'est par lui que tous ceux qui croient sont justifiés de toutes les choses dont vous n'avez pu être justifiés par la loi de Moïse.
40Prenez donc garde qu'il ne vous arrive ce qui a été dit dans les prophètes:
41Voyez, vous qui me méprisez, et soyez étonnés, et pâlissez d'effroi; car je vais faire une ouvre en vos jours, une ouvre que vous ne croiriez point, si on vous la racontait.
42Comme ils sortaient de la synagogue des Juifs, les Gentils les prièrent de leur annoncer les mêmes choses le sabbat suivant.
43Et quand l'assemblée se fut dispersée, plusieurs Juifs et prosélytes pieux suivirent Paul et Barnabas, qui, s'entretenant avec eux, les exhortèrent à persévérer dans la grâce de Dieu.
44Le sabbat suivant, presque toute la ville s'assembla pour entendre la parole de Dieu.
45Mais les Juifs, voyant la foule, furent remplis d'envie, et s'opposaient aux paroles de Paul, le contredisant et l'injuriant.
46Alors Paul et Barnabas leur dirent hardiment: C'était à vous d'abord qu'il fallait annoncer la parole de Dieu; mais puisque vous la rejetez, et que vous vous jugez vous-mêmes indignes de la vie éternelle, voici, nous nous tournons vers les Gentils.
47Car le Seigneur nous a ainsi commandé: Je t'ai établi comme la lumière des Gentils, pour être leur salut jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.
48Les Gentils, entendant cela, se réjouissaient, et donnaient gloire à la parole du Seigneur, et tous ceux qui étaient destinés à la vie éternelle, crurent.
49Et la parole du Seigneur se répandait dans tout le pays.
50Mais les Juifs animèrent quelques femmes dévotes en qualité, et les principaux de la ville, et ils excitèrent une persécution contre Paul et Barnabas, et les chassèrent de leur pays.
51Mais Paul et Barnabas, ayant secoué la poussière de leurs pieds contre eux, allèrent à Iconium.
52Et les disciples étaient remplis de joie et du Saint-Esprit.

1HABÍA entonces en la iglesia que estaba en Antioquía, profetas y doctores: Bernabé, y Simón el que se llamaba Niger, y Lucio Cireneo, y Manahén, que había sido criado con Herodes el tetrarca, y Saulo.
2Ministrando pues éstos al Señor, y ayunando, dijo el Espíritu Santo: Apartadme á Bernabé y á Saulo para la obra para la cual los he llamado.
3Entonces habiendo ayunado y orado, y puesto las manos encima de ellos, despidiéronlos.
4Y ellos, enviados así por el Espíritu Santo, descendieron á Seleucia; y de allí navegaron á Cipro.
5Y llegados á Salamina, anunciaban la palabra de Dios en las sinagogas de los Judíos: y tenían también á Juan en el ministerio.
6Y habiendo atravesado toda la isla hasta Papho, hallaron un hombre mago, falso profeta, Judío, llamado Barjesús;
7El cual estaba con el procónsul Sergio Paulo, varón prudente. Este, llamando á Bernabé y á Saulo, deseaba oir la palabra de Dios.
8Mas les resistía Elimas el encantador (que así se interpreta su nombre), procurando apartar de la fe al procónsul.
9Entonces Saulo, que también es Pablo, lleno del Espíritu Santo, poniendo en él los ojos,
10Dijo: Oh, lleno de todo engaño y de toda maldad, hijo del diablo, enemigo de toda justicia, ¿no cesarás de trastornar los caminos rectos del Señor?
11Ahora pues, he aquí la mano del Señor es contra ti, y serás ciego, que no veas el sol por tiempo. Y luego cayeron en él obscuridad y tinieblas; y andando alrededor, buscaba quién le condujese por la mano.
12Entonces el procónsul, viendo lo que había sido hecho, creyó, maravillado de la doctrina del Señor.
13Y partidos de Papho, Pablo y sus compañeros arribaron á Perge de Pamphylia: entonces Juan, apartándose de ellos, se volvió á Jerusalem.
14Y ellos pasando de Perge, llegaron á Antioquía de Pisidia, y entrando en la sinagoga un día de sábado, sentáronse.
15Y después de la lectura de la ley y de los profetas, los príncipes de la sinagoga enviaron á ellos, diciendo: Varones hermanos, si tenéis alguna palabra de exhortación para el pueblo, hablad.
16Entonces Pablo, levantándose, hecha señal de silencio con la mano, dice: Varones Israelitas, y los que teméis á Dios, oid:
17El Dios del pueblo de Israel escogió á nuestros padres, y ensalzó al pueblo, siendo ellos extranjeros en la tierra de Egipto, y con brazo levantado los sacó de ella.
18Y por tiempo como de cuarenta años soportó sus costumbres en el desierto;
19Y destruyendo siete naciones en la tierra de Canaán, les repartió por suerte la tierra de ellas.
20Y después, como por cuatrocientos y cincuenta años, dióles jueces hasta el profeta Samuel.
21Y entonces demandaron rey; y les dió Dios á Saúl, hijo de Cis, varón de la tribu de Benjamín, por cuarenta años.
22Y quitado aquél, levantóles por rey á David, al que dió también testimonio, diciendo: He hallado á David, hijo de Jessé, varón conforme á mi corazón, el cual hará todo lo que yo quiero.
23De la simiente de éste, Dios, conforme á la promesa, levantó á Jesús por Salvador á Israel;
24Predicando Juan delante de la faz de su venida el bautismo de arrepentimiento á todo el pueblo de Israel.
25Mas como Juan cumpliese su carrera, dijo: ¿Quién pensáis que soy? No soy yo él; mas he aquí, viene tras mí uno, cuyo calzado de los pies no soy digno de desatar.
26Varones hermanos, hijos del linaje de Abraham, y los que entre vosotros temen á Dios, á vosotros es enviada la palabra de esta salud.
27Porque los que habitaban en Jerusalem, y sus príncipes, no conociendo á éste, y las voces de los profetas que se leen todos los sábados, condenándole, las cumplieron.
28Y sin hallar en él causa de muerte, pidieron á Pilato que le matasen.
29Y habiendo cumplido todas las cosas que de él estaban escritas, quitándolo del madero, lo pusieron en el sepulcro.
30Mas Dios le levantó de los muertos.
31Y él fué visto por muchos días de los que habían subido juntamente con él de Galilea á Jerusalem, los cuales son sus testigos al pueblo.
32Y nosotros también os anunciamos el evangelio de aquella promesa que fué hecha á los padres,
33La cual Dios ha cumplido á los hijos de ellos, á nosotros, resucitando á Jesús: como también en el salmo segundo está escrito: Mi hijo eres tú, yo te he engendrado hoy.
34Y que le levantó de los muertos para nunca más volver á corrupción, así lo dijo: Os daré las misericordias fieles de David.
35Por eso dice también en otro lugar: No permitirás que tu Santo vea corrupción.
36Porque á la verdad David, habiendo servido en su edad á la voluntad de Dios, durmió, y fué juntado con sus padres, y vió corrupción:
37Mas aquel que Dios levantó, no vió corrupción.
38Séaos pues notorio, varones hermanos, que por éste os es anunciada remisión de pecados;
39Y de todo lo que por la ley de Moisés no pudisteis ser justificados, en éste es justificado todo aquel que creyere.
40Mirad, pues, que no venga sobre vosotros lo que está dicho en los profetas;
41Mirad, oh menospreciadores, y entonteceos, y desvaneceos; porque yo obro una obra en vuestros días, obra que no creeréis, si alguien os la contare.
42Y saliendo ellos de la sinagoga de los Judíos, los Gentiles les rogaron que el sábado siguiente les hablasen estas palabras.
43Y despedida la congregación, muchos de los Judíos y de los religiosos prosélitos siguieron á Pablo y á Bernabé; los cuales hablándoles, les persuadían que permaneciesen en la gracia de Dios.
44Y el sábado siguiente se juntó casi toda la ciudad á oir la palabra de Dios.
45Mas los Judíos, visto el gentío, llenáronse de celo, y se oponían á lo que Pablo decía, contradiciendo y blasfemando.
46Entonces Pablo y Bernabé, usando de libertad, dijeron: A vosotros á la verdad era menester que se os hablase la palabra de Dios; mas pues que la desecháis, y os juzgáis indignos de la vida eterna, he aquí, nos volvemos á los Gentiles.
47Porque así nos ha mandado el Señor, diciendo: Te he puesto para luz de los Gentiles, para que seas salud hasta lo postrero de la tierra.
48Y los Gentiles oyendo esto, fueron gozosos, y glorificaban la palabra del Señor: y creyeron todos los que estaban ordenados para vida eterna.
49Y la palabra del Señor era sembrada por toda aquella provincia.
50Mas los Judíos concitaron mujeres pías y honestas, y á los principales de la ciudad, y levantaron persecución contra Pablo y Bernabé, y los echaron de sus términos.
51Ellos entonces sacudiendo en ellos el polvo de sus pies, vinieron á Iconio.
52Y los discípulos estaban llenos de gozo, y del Espíritu Santo.

1Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
3And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
4So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.
5And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.
6And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jesus:
7Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
8But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.
9Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,
10And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
11And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.
12Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.
13Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.
14But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
15And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
16Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
17The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.
18And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
19And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.
20And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.
21And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
22And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.
23Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:
24When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
25And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
26Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.
27For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
28And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
29And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.
30But God raised him from the dead:
31And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.
32And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,
33God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.
34And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.
35Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
36For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:
37But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.
38Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:
39And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
40Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;
41Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.
42And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
43Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.
44And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
45But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
46Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
47For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
48And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
49And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.
50But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.
51But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.
52And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.
World English Bible
1Now in the assembly that was at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them.”
3Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
4So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus.
5When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed God’s word in the Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their attendant.
6When they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar Jesus,
7who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.
8But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.
9But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him
10and said, “You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?
11Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
12Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.
13Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.
14But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down.
15After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.”
16Paul stood up, and gesturing with his hand said, “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen.
17The God of this people chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as aliens in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it.
18For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.
19When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance for about four hundred fifty years.
20After these things, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.
21Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.
22When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’
23From this man’s offspring, God has brought salvation to Israel according to his promise,
24before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to Israel.
25As John was fulfilling his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’
26“Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.
27For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.
28Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed.
29When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.
30But God raised him from the dead,
31and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people.
32We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers,
33that God has fulfilled this to us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son. Today I have become your father.’
34“Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’
35Therefore he says also in another psalm, ‘You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.’
36For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was laid with his fathers, and saw decay.
37But he whom God raised up saw no decay.
38Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins;
39and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
40Beware therefore, lest that come on you which is spoken in the prophets:
41‘Behold, you scoffers! Wonder and perish, for I work a work in your days, a work which you will in no way believe, if one declares it to you.’”
42So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.
43Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.
44The next Sabbath, almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God.
45But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.
46Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, “It was necessary that God’s word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from yourselves, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.
47For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.’”
48As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God. As many as were appointed to eternal life believed.
49The Lord’s word was spread abroad throughout all the region.
50But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their borders.
51But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.
52The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.
