1Um dieselbe Zeit legte der König Herodes Hand an einige Angehörige der Gemeinde, um sie zu mißhandeln.
2Er ließ Jakobus, den Bruder des Johannes, mit dem Schwerte hinrichten.
3Da er sah, daß dies den Juden gefiel, ließ er auch den Petrus ergreifen. Es war in den Tagen der Ungesäuerten Brote.
4Er ließ ihn also festnehmen und ins Gefängnis werfen und durch eine vierfache Wache von je vier Soldaten bewachen. Nach Ostern wollte er ihn dann dem Volke vorführen.
5Petrus wurde im Gefängnis bewacht, von der Gemeinde aber wurde ohne Unterlaß für ihn zu Gott gebetet.
6In der Nacht, bevor Herodes ihn vorführen lassen wollte, schlief Petrus mit zwei Ketten gefesselt zwischen zwei Soldaten. Wachtposten vor der Türe bewachten das Gefängnis.
7Siehe, da erschien ein Engel des Herrn, Licht erstrahlte in dem Gelaß; er stieß den Petrus in die Seite, weckte ihn und sprach: "Schnell, auf!" Da fielen ihm die Ketten von den Händen.
8Der Engel gebot ihm weiter: "Gürte dich und ziehe deine Schuhe an!" Er tat es. Weiter sprach er: "Wirf deinen Mantel um und folge mir!"
9Er ging hinaus und folgte ihm, wußte aber nicht, daß es Wirklichkeit war, was durch den Engel geschah; er meinte vielmehr, ein Gesicht zu schauen.
10Sie schritten an der ersten und zweiten Wache rasch vorüber und kamen an das eiserne Tor, das in die Stadt hineinführt; dieses tat sich ihnen von selbst auf. Sie traten ein und gingen in eine gewisse Straße, und plötzlich schied der Engel von ihm.
11Da kam Petrus, zu sich und sprach: "Jetzt weiß ich in Wahrheit, der Herr hat seinen Engel gesandt und mich aus der Hand des Herodes gerissen, und aus dem, was das Judenvolk erwartete."
12Und als er sich das klargemacht hatte, ging er zum Hause der Maria, der Mutter des Johannes mit dem Beinamen Markus. Hier waren viele versammelt und beteten.
13Er klopfte an die Tür des Hoftors. Eine Magd mit Namen Rhode kam herbei, um zu horchen.
14Als sie die Stimme des Petrus erkannte, öffnete sie vor lauter Freude das Tor nicht, sondern lief hinein und meldete, Petrus Stehe vor dem Tore.
15Die aber sagten zu ihr: "Du bist von Sinnen." Doch sie bestand fest darauf, daß es so sei. Da meinten sie: "Es ist sein Engel."
16Petrus aber fuhr fort zu klopfen; man öffnete, sah ihn und staunte.
17Er aber winkte ihnen mit der Hand, daß sie schweigen möchten, und erzählte ihnen dann, wie ihn der Herr aus dem Gefängnis herausgeführt habe. Er sagte noch: "Meldet dies dem Jakobus und den anderen Brüdern!" Dann ging er weg und begab sich an einen anderen Ort.
18Als es Tag geworden war, entstand unter den Soldaten eine nicht geringe Aufregung, was aus Petrus geworden war.
19Herodes, der ihn holen lassen wollte, aber nicht vorfand, verhörte die Wächter und ließ sie dann zur Hinrichtung abführen. Hierauf begab er sich von Judäa nach Cäsarea hinab und hielt sich dort auf.
20Gegen die Bewohner von Tyrus und von Sidon war er sehr erzürnt. Diese erschienen nun einmütig vor ihm, und nachdem sie den königlichen Kammerherrn Blastus für sich gewonnen hatten, baten sie um Frieden; denn ihr Land bezog von dem des Königs die Lebensmittel.
21An dem bestimmten Tage setzte sich Herodes in königlichem Gewand auf seinen Thron und hielt eine Ansprache an sie.
22Das Volk brach in den Ruf aus: "Eines Gottes, nicht eines Menschen Stimme."
23Auf der Stelle schlug ihn ein Engel des Herrn dafür, daß er nicht Gott die Ehre gegeben hatte. Und von Würmern zerfressen starb er.
24Das Wort des Herrn aber breitete sich immer weiter aus.
25Barnabas und Saul kehrten aus Jerusalem zurück, nachdem sie ihre Aufgabe erfüllt hatten; sie nahmen Johannes mit dem Beinamen Markus mit sich.

1Y EN el mismo tiempo el rey Herodes echó mano á maltratar algunos de la iglesia.
2Y mató á cuchillo á Jacobo, hermano de Juan.
3Y viendo que había agradado á los Judíos, pasó adelante para prender también á Pedro. Eran entonces los días de los ázimos.
4Y habiéndole preso, púsole en la cárcel, entregándole á cuatro cuaterniones de soldados que le guardasen; queriendo sacarle al pueblo después de la Pascua.
5Así que, Pedro era guardado en la cárcel; y la iglesia hacía sin cesar oración á Dios por él.
6Y cuando Herodes le había de sacar, aquella misma noche estaba Pedro durmiendo entre dos soldados, preso con dos cadenas, y los guardas delante de la puerta, que guardaban la cárcel.
7Y he aquí, el ángel del Señor sobrevino, y una luz resplandeció en la cárcel; é hiriendo á Pedro en el lado, le despertó, diciendo: Levántate prestamente. Y las cadenas se le cayeron de las manos.
8Y le dijo el ángel: Cíñete, y átate tus sandalias. Y lo hizo así. Y le dijo: Rodéate tu ropa, y sígueme.
9Y saliendo, le seguía; y no sabía que era verdad lo que hacía el ángel, mas pensaba que veía visión.
10Y como pasaron la primera y la segunda guardia, vinieron á la puerta de hierro que va á la ciudad, la cual se les abrió de suyo: y salidos, pasaron una calle; y luego el ángel se apartó de él.
11Entonces Pedro, volviendo en sí, dijo: Ahora entiendo verdaderamente que el Señor ha enviado su ángel, y me ha librado de la mano de Herodes, y de todo el pueblo de los Judíos que me esperaba.
12Y habiendo considerado esto, llegó á casa de María la madre de Juan, el que tenía por sobrenombre Marcos, donde muchos estaban juntos orando.
13Y tocando Pedro á la puerta del patio, salió una muchacha, para escuchar, llamada Rhode:
14La cual como conoció la voz de Pedro, de gozo no abrió el postigo, sino corriendo adentro, dió nueva de que Pedro estaba al postigo.
15Y ellos le dijeron: Estás loca. Mas ella afirmaba que así era. Entonces ellos decían: Su ángel es.
16Mas Pedro perseveraba en llamar: y cuando abrieron, viéronle, y se espantaron.
17Mas él haciéndoles con la mano señal de que callasen, les contó cómo el Señor le había sacado de la cárcel. Y dijo: Haced saber esto á Jacobo y á los hermanos. Y salió, y partió á otro lugar.
18Luego que fué de día, hubo no poco alboroto entre los soldados sobre qué se había hecho de Pedro.
19Mas Herodes, como le buscó y no le halló, hecha inquisición de los guardas, los mandó llevar. Después descendiendo de Judea á Cesarea, se quedó allí.
20Y Herodes estaba enojado contra los de Tiro y los de Sidón: mas ellos vinieron concordes á él, y sobornado Blasto, que era el camarero del rey, pedían paz; porque las tierras de ellos eran abastecidas por las del rey.
21Y un día señalado, Herodes vestido de ropa real, se sentó en el tribunal, y arengóles.
22Y el pueblo aclamaba: Voz de Dios, y no de hombre.
23Y luego el ángel del Señor le hirió, por cuanto no dió la gloria á Dios; y espiró comido de gusanos.
24Mas la palabra del Señor crecía y era multiplicada.
25Y Bernabé y Saulo volvieron de Jerusalem cumplido su servicio, tomando también consigo á Juan, el que tenía por sobrenombre Marcos.

1Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
2And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
3And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
4And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
5Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
6And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.
8And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
9And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
10When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
11And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
12And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.
13And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.
14And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.
15And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.
16But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.
17But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
18Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.
19And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judæa to Cæsarea, and there abode.
20And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king’s chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king’s country.
21And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.
22And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.
23And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
24But the word of God grew and multiplied.
25And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

1Now about that time, King Herod stretched out his hands to oppress some of the assembly.
2He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword.
3When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This was during the days of unleavened bread.
4When he had arrested him, he put him in prison and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover.
5Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the assembly to God for him.
6The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison.
7And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up, saying, “Stand up quickly!” His chains fell off his hands.
8The angel said to him, “Get dressed and put on your sandals.” He did so. He said to him, “Put on your cloak and follow me.”
9And he went out and followed him. He didn’t know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision.
10When they were past the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. They went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.
11When Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from everything the Jewish people were expecting.”
12Thinking about that, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was called Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.
13When Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer.
14When she recognized Peter’s voice, she didn’t open the gate for joy, but ran in and reported that Peter was standing in front of the gate.
15They said to her, “You are crazy!” But she insisted that it was so. They said, “It is his angel.”
16But Peter continued knocking. When they had opened, they saw him and were amazed.
17But he, beckoning to them with his hand to be silent, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. He said, “Tell these things to James and to the brothers.” Then he departed and went to another place.
18Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter.
19When Herod had sought for him and didn’t find him, he examined the guards, then commanded that they should be put to death. He went down from Judea to Caesarea, and stayed there.
20Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. They came with one accord to him and, having made Blastus, the king’s personal aide, their friend, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king’s country for food.
21On an appointed day, Herod dressed himself in royal clothing, sat on the throne, and gave a speech to them.
22The people shouted, “The voice of a god, and not of a man!”
23Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he didn’t give God the glory. Then he was eaten by worms and died.
24But the word of God grew and multiplied.
25Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their service, also taking with them John who was called Mark.
