1Carísimo, ruego a Dios que te prospere en todo, y goces salud, como la goza dichosamente tu alma.
2Grande ha sido mi contento con la venida de los hermanos, y el testimonio que dan de tu sincera piedad, como que sigues el camino de la verdad, de la buena nueva.
3En ninguna cosa tengo mayor gusto que cuando entiendo que mis hijos van por el camino de la verdad.
4Carísimo mío, te portas como fiel y buen cristiano en todo lo que practicas con los hermanos, especialmente con los peregrinos,
5los cuales han dado testimonio de tu caridad públicamente en la Iglesia; y tú harás bien en hacerlos conducir y asistir en sus viajes con el decoro debido a Dios,
6pues que por la gloria de su Nombre han emprendido el viaje, sin tomar nada de los gentiles recién convertidos.
7Por eso mismo nosotros debemos acoger a los tales a fin de cooperar a la propagación de la verdad o de la buena nueva.
8Yo quizá hubiera escrito a la Iglesia; pero ese Diótrefes, que ambiciona la primacía entre los demás, nada quiere saber de nosotros.
9Por tanto, si voy allá, yo denunciaré sus procedimientos, haciéndole ver cuán mal hace en ir vertiendo especies malignas contra nosotros; y como si esto no le bastase, no solamente no hospeda él a nuestros hermanos, sino que a los que les dan acogida se lo veda y los echa de la Iglesia.
10Tú, querido mío, no has de imitar el mal ejemplo, sino el bueno. El que hace bien, es de Dios; el que hace mal, no mira a Dios.
11Todos dan testimonio a favor de Demetrio, y lo da la verdad misma, y se lo damos igualmente nosotros; y bien sabes que nuestro testimonio es verdadero.
12Muchas cosas tenía que escribirte; pero no he querido hacerlo por medio de tinta y pluma;
13porque espero verte luego, y hablaremos boca a boca. La paz sea contigo. Te saludan los amigos. Saluda tú a los nuestros, a cada uno en particular.
14Judas, siervo de Jesucristo y hermano de Santiago, a los amados de Dios Padre, llamados a la fe, y conservados por Jesucristo.

1EL anciano al muy amado Gaio, al cual yo amo en verdad.
2Amado, yo deseo que tú seas prosperado en todas cosas, y que tengas salud, así como tu alma está en prosperidad.
3Ciertamente me gocé mucho cuando vinieron los hermanos y dieron testimonio de tu verdad, así como tú andas en la verdad.
4No tengo yo mayor gozo que éste, el oir que mis hijos andan en la verdad.
5Amado, fielmente haces todo lo que haces para con los hermanos, y con los extranjeros,
6Los cuales han dado testimonio de tu amor en presencia de la iglesia: á los cuales si ayudares como conviene según Dios, harás bien.
7Porque ellos partieron por amor de su nombre, no tomando nada de los Gentiles.
8Nosotros, pues, debemos recibir á los tales, para que seamos cooperadores á la verdad.
9Yo he escrito á la iglesia: mas Diótrefes, que ama tener el primado entre ellos, no nos recibe.
10Por esta causa, si yo viniere, recordaré las obras que hace parlando con palabras maliciosas contra nosotros; y no contento con estas cosas, no recibe á los hermanos, y prohibe á los que los quieren recibir, y los echa de la iglesia.
11Amado, no sigas lo que es malo, sino lo que es bueno. El que hace bien es de Dios: mas el que hace mal, no ha visto á Dios.
12Todos dan testimonio de Demetrio, y aun la misma verdad: y también nosotros damos testimonio; y vosotros habéis conocido que nuestro testimonio es verdadero.
13Yo tenía muchas cosas que escribirte; empero no quiero escribirte por tinta y pluma:
14Porque espero verte en breve, y hablaremos boca á boca. Paz sea contigo. Los amigos te saludan. Saluda tú á los amigos por nombre.

1The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
5Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
6Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
7Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
8We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
9I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
10Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
11Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
12Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
13I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:
14But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

2Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.
3For I rejoiced greatly when brothers came and testified about your truth, even as you walk in truth.
4I have no greater joy than this: to hear about my children walking in truth.
5Beloved, you do a faithful work in whatever you accomplish for those who are brothers and strangers.
6They have testified about your love before the assembly. You will do well to send them forward on their journey in a way worthy of God,
7because for the sake of the Name they went out, taking nothing from the Gentiles.
8We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
9I wrote to the assembly, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t accept what we say.
10Therefore, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not content with this, he doesn’t receive the brothers himself, and those who would, he forbids and throws out of the assembly.
11Beloved, don’t imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn’t seen God.
12Demetrius has the testimony of all, and of the truth itself; yes, we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.
13I had many things to write to you, but I am unwilling to write to you with ink and pen;
14but I hope to see you soon. Then we will speak face to face. Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
