Il seniore a Gaio carissimo, il quale io amo nella verità.

EL anciano al muy amado Gaio, al cual yo amo en verdad.

Carissimo sopr'ogni cosa io fo orazione, perché le cose tue vadan bene, e sii sano, come bene sta l'anima tua.

Amado, yo deseo que tú seas prosperado en todas cosas, y que tengas salud, así como tu alma está en prosperidad.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.

Mi sono rallegrato molto all'arrivo de' fratelli i quali han renduto testimonianza alla tua sincerità, siccome tu cammini nella sincerità.

Ciertamente me gocé mucho cuando vinieron los hermanos y dieron testimonio de tu verdad, así como tú andas en la verdad.

For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

For I rejoiced greatly when brothers came and testified about your truth, even as you walk in truth.

Più grata cosa di questa io non ho, che di sentire, che i miei figliuoli camminino nella verità.

No tengo yo mayor gozo que éste, el oir que mis hijos andan en la verdad.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

I have no greater joy than this: to hear about my children walking in truth.

Carissimo, tu la fai da fedele in tutto quello, che operi verso i fratelli, e più verso i pellegrini,

Amado, fielmente haces todo lo que haces para con los hermanos, y con los extranjeros,

Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

Beloved, you do a faithful work in whatever you accomplish for those who are brothers and strangers.

I quali hanno renduta testimonianza alla tua carità davanti alla Chiesa: i quali se provvederai di viatico come per Iddio ben farai.

Los cuales han dado testimonio de tu amor en presencia de la iglesia: á los cuales si ayudares como conviene según Dios, harás bien.

Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

They have testified about your love before the assembly. You will do well to send them forward on their journey in a way worthy of God,

Imperocché pel nome di lui si sono partiti, nulla ricevendo da' gentili.

Porque ellos partieron por amor de su nombre, no tomando nada de los Gentiles.

Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

because for the sake of the Name they went out, taking nothing from the Gentiles.

Noi pertanto dobbiamo accogliere simili persone, affin di cooperare alla verità.

Nosotros, pues, debemos recibir á los tales, para que seamos cooperadores á la verdad.

We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.

Avrei forse scritto alla Chiesa: ma colui, che vuoi farla da caporione, Diotrefe, non vuol saper nulla di noi:

Yo he escrito á la iglesia: mas Diótrefes, que ama tener el primado entre ellos, no nos recibe.

I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

I wrote to the assembly, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t accept what we say.

Per questo se io verrò, gli rammenterò le opere, che va facendo, con maligne parole cianciando contro di noi: e quasi ciò non gli basti, né egli da ricetto ai fratelli, e rattiene quei, che gli ricettano, e gli caccia dalla Chiesa.

Por esta causa, si yo viniere, recordaré las obras que hace parlando con palabras maliciosas contra nosotros; y no contento con estas cosas, no recibe á los hermanos, y prohibe á los que los quieren recibir, y los echa de la iglesia.

Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

Therefore, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not content with this, he doesn’t receive the brothers himself, and those who would, he forbids and throws out of the assembly.

Carissimo, non imitare il male, ma il bene. Chi ben fa, o da Dio: chi mai fa, non ha veduto Dio.

Amado, no sigas lo que es malo, sino lo que es bueno. El que hace bien es de Dios: mas el que hace mal, no ha visto á Dios.

Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

Beloved, don’t imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn’t seen God.

A Demetrio è renduta testimonianza da tutti, e dalla stessa verità, e noi pure gli rendiamo testimonianza: e tu sai, che la nostra testimonianza è verace.

Todos dan testimonio de Demetrio, y aun la misma verdad: y también nosotros damos testimonio; y vosotros habéis conocido que nuestro testimonio es verdadero.

Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

Demetrius has the testimony of all, and of the truth itself; yes, we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.

Io aveva molte cose da scriverti: ma non ho voluto scrivertele con penna, e inchiostro.

Yo tenía muchas cosas que escribirte; empero no quiero escribirte por tinta y pluma:

I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

I had many things to write to you, but I am unwilling to write to you with ink and pen;

Ma spero di vederti tosto, e parleremo a faccia a faccia. Pace a te. Gli amici ti salutano. Saluta gli amici a uno a uno. Egli esorta a star costanti nella fede, che avean ricevuta, e a resistere agli empj, e impuri uomini, che uscivan fuori, de’ quali predice il supplizio simile a quello de' Giudei, e de' Sodomiti, mentre anche quegli senza alcun rispetto sfrenatamente sono trasportati da ogni concupiscenza carnale. Dipinge costoro con varie similitudini, e ripete quello, che di essi hanno predetto Enoch, e gli Apostoli.

Porque espero verte en breve, y hablaremos boca á boca. Paz sea contigo. Los amigos te saludan. Saluda tú á los amigos por nombre.

But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
