1Darum, wenn ich komme, will ich ihn erinnern seiner Werke, die er tut, und plaudert mit bösen Worten wider uns und lässet sich an dem nicht genügen. Er selbst nimmt die Brüder nicht an und wehret denen, die es tun wollen, und stößet sie aus der Gemeinde.
2Mein Lieber, folge nicht nach dem Bösen, sondern dem Guten! Wer Gutes tut, der ist von Gott; wer Böses tut, der siehet Gott nicht.
3Demetrius hat Zeugnis von jedermann und von der Wahrheit selbst; und wir zeugen auch, und ihr wisset, daß unser Zeugnis wahr ist.
4Ich hatte viel zu schreiben; aber ich wollte nicht mit Tinte und Feder an dich schreiben.
5Ich hoffe aber, dich bald zu sehen, so wollen wir mündlich miteinander reden.
6Judas, ein Knecht Jesu Christi, aber ein Bruder des Jakobus: den Berufenen, die da geheiliget sind in Gott dem Vater und behalten in Jesu Christo.
7Gott gebe euch viel Barmherzigkeit und Frieden und Liebe!
8Ihr Lieben, nachdem ich vorhatte, euch zu schreiben von unser aller Heil, hielt ich's für nötig, euch mit Schriften zu ermahnen, daß ihr ob dem Glauben kämpfet, der einmal den Heiligen vorgegeben ist.
9Denn es sind etliche Menschen nebeneingeschlichen, von denen vorzeiten geschrieben ist, zu solcher Strafe; die sind Gottlose und ziehen die Gnade unsers Gottes auf Mutwillen und verleugnen Gott und unsern HERRN Jesum Christum, den einigen HERRSCher.
10Ich will euch aber erinnern, daß ihr wisset auf einmal dies, daß der HERR, da er dem Volk aus Ägypten half, zum andernmal brachte er um, die da nicht glaubten.
11Auch Engel, die ihr Fürstentum nicht behielten, sondern verließen ihre Behausung, hat er behalten zum Gericht des großen Tages mit ewigen Banden in Finsternis.
12Wie auch Sodom und Gomorra und die umliegenden Städte, die gleicherweise wie diese ausgehuret haben und nach einem andern Fleisch gegangen sind, zum Exempel gesetzt sind und leiden des ewigen Feuers Pein.
13Desselbigengleichen sind auch diese Träumer, die das Fleisch beflecken, die HERRSChaften aber verachten und die Majestäten lästern.
14aber, der Erzengel, da er mit dem Teufel zankete und mit ihm redete über den Leichnam Mose's, durfte er das Urteil der Lästerung nicht fällen, sondern sprach: Der HERR strafe dich!

2Amado, yo deseo que tú seas prosperado en todas cosas, y que tengas salud, así como tu alma está en prosperidad.
3Ciertamente me gocé mucho cuando vinieron los hermanos y dieron testimonio de tu verdad, así como tú andas en la verdad.
4No tengo yo mayor gozo que éste, el oir que mis hijos andan en la verdad.
5Amado, fielmente haces todo lo que haces para con los hermanos, y con los extranjeros,
6Los cuales han dado testimonio de tu amor en presencia de la iglesia: á los cuales si ayudares como conviene según Dios, harás bien.
7Porque ellos partieron por amor de su nombre, no tomando nada de los Gentiles.
8Nosotros, pues, debemos recibir á los tales, para que seamos cooperadores á la verdad.
9Yo he escrito á la iglesia: mas Diótrefes, que ama tener el primado entre ellos, no nos recibe.
10Por esta causa, si yo viniere, recordaré las obras que hace parlando con palabras maliciosas contra nosotros; y no contento con estas cosas, no recibe á los hermanos, y prohibe á los que los quieren recibir, y los echa de la iglesia.
11Amado, no sigas lo que es malo, sino lo que es bueno. El que hace bien es de Dios: mas el que hace mal, no ha visto á Dios.
12Todos dan testimonio de Demetrio, y aun la misma verdad: y también nosotros damos testimonio; y vosotros habéis conocido que nuestro testimonio es verdadero.
13Yo tenía muchas cosas que escribirte; empero no quiero escribirte por tinta y pluma:
14Porque espero verte en breve, y hablaremos boca á boca. Paz sea contigo. Los amigos te saludan. Saluda tú á los amigos por nombre.

1The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
2Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
5Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;
6Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:
7Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
8We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.
9I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
10Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.
11Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
12Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
13I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:
14But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

1The elder to Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth.
2Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.
3For I rejoiced greatly when brothers came and testified about your truth, even as you walk in truth.
4I have no greater joy than this: to hear about my children walking in truth.
5Beloved, you do a faithful work in whatever you accomplish for those who are brothers and strangers.
6They have testified about your love before the assembly. You will do well to send them forward on their journey in a way worthy of God,
7because for the sake of the Name they went out, taking nothing from the Gentiles.
8We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
9I wrote to the assembly, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, doesn’t accept what we say.
10Therefore, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not content with this, he doesn’t receive the brothers himself, and those who would, he forbids and throws out of the assembly.
11Beloved, don’t imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn’t seen God.
12Demetrius has the testimony of all, and of the truth itself; yes, we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.
13I had many things to write to you, but I am unwilling to write to you with ink and pen;
14but I hope to see you soon. Then we will speak face to face. Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.
