1Et du temps de David, il y eut une famine qui dura trois années consécutives. David questionna le Seigneur, et le Seigneur dit : Sur Saül et sur sa maison pèse une iniquité qui demande encore de son sang, parce qu'il a mis à mort les Gabaonites.
2Le roi David appela les Gabaonites, et il s'entretint avec eux. Or, les Gabaonites ne sont point fils d'Israël, mais un débris des Amorrhéens, et les fils d'Israël leur avaient prêté serment ; malgré cela, Saül entreprit de les exterminer, dans son zèle pour les fils d'Israël et de Juda.
3David dit donc aux Gabaonites : Que puis-je faire pour vous ? comment pourrai-je vous apaiser afin que vous bénissiez l'héritage du Seigneur ?
4Et les Gabaonites répondirent : Entre nous et entre Saül et sa famille, il n'est question ni d'argent, ni d'or, et nul en Israël ne doit, à cause de nous, mourir. Et David reprit : Que voulez-vous dire ? Parlez, je le ferai pour vous.
5Et ils dirent au roi : L'homme qui a tourné contre nous ses forces, qui nous a traqués, qui a conçu le vain projet de nous exterminer, nous voulons l'effacer de sorte qu'il ne reste rien de lui, sur tout le territoire d'Israël.
6Livre-nous sept de ses fils, afin qu'en Gabaon, ville de Saül, nous les exposions au soleil pour le Seigneur ; sept fils de Saül, choisis pour le Seigneur. Et le roi dit : Je vous les livrerai.
7Le roi épargna Miphiboseth, fils de Jonathan, fils de Saül, à cause du serment du Seigneur que s'étaient mutuellement prêté Jonathan et David.
8Mais il prit les deux fils de Respha, fille d'Ais, qu'elle avait eus de Saül : Hermoni et Miphiboseth, et les cinq fils de Michol, fille de Saül, qu'elle avait eus d'Esdriel, fils de Berzelli, le Moülathite.
9Et il les remit aux Gabaonites, qui les exposèrent au soleil, sur la montagne, devant le Seigneur, et tous les sept succombèrent ensemble. Ils moururent dans les premiers jours de la moisson, comme on commençait à couper les orges.
10Et Respha, fille d'Aïa, prit un cilice, et, au commencement de la moisson des orges, elle se plaça près de la roche ; elle y demeura jusqu'à ce que l'eau du ciel tombât sur les morts, et elle ne laissa pas les oiseaux du ciel se poser sur eux, pendant le jour, ni les bêtes fauves des champs les atteindre, pendant la nuit.
11On alla dire à David ce que faisait Respha, fille d'Aïa, concubine de Saül ; puis, on détacha les cadavres ; et Dan, fils de Joa, de la race des géants, les prit.
12Après cela, David partit, et il reprit les ossements de Saül et ceux de Jonathan, aux hommes de Jabès-Galaad qui les avaient dérobés dans les rues de Bethsam, où les Philistins les avaient cloués, le jour de leur victoire sur Saül en Gelboé.
13Et il rapporta de cette ville les ossements de Saül et ceux de Jonathan, et il recueillit les ossements des sept exposés au soleil.
14Et l'on ensevelit tous ces ossements, en Benjamin, sur les flancs de la montagne, dans le sépulcre de Cis, père de Saül ; on exécuta tout ce que David avait prescrit, et après cela Dieu exauça les vœux de la terre.
15Ensuite, la guerre s'alluma encore entre les Philistins et Israël. David se mit en campagne avec ses serviteurs ; dans une bataille contre les Philistins, lui-même sortit des rangs, et de l'autre côté,
16Jesbi, de la race des géants. Celui-ci portait une javeline dont la pointe pesait trois cents sicles d'airain ; à sa ceinture pendait une massue, et il pensait tuer David.
17Mais Abessa vint au secours du roi ; il frappa le Philistin et il le tua. Alors, les hommes de David jurèrent et dirent : Tu ne viendras plus à la guerre avec nous, de peur que tu n'éteignes la lampe d'Israël.
18Après cela, il y eut encore un combat près de Geth avec les Philistins. Alors, Sebocha, d'Astaroth, tua Seph, de la race des géants.
19Puis, il y eut une bataille à Rhom avec les Philistins, et Eléanan, fils d'Ariorgim de Bethléem, tua Goliath le Géthéen, qui portait une javeline dont le bois ressemblait au mât d'un tisserand.
20Il y eut encore un combat à Geth. Et il y avait un homme de grande taille, ayant six doigts à chaque main et six doigts à chaque pied, en tout vingt-quatre doigts. Et il était aussi de la race des géants.
21Et il défiait Israël ; il fut tué par Jonathan, fils de Sémeï, frère de David.
22Tous les quatre étaient issus des géants, et ils étaient nés à Geth dans la famille de Rhapha, et ils tombèrent sous les coups de David ou de ses serviteurs.

1Y EN los días de David hubo hambre por tres años consecutivos. Y David consultó á Jehová, y Jehová le dijo: Es por Saúl, y por aquella casa de sangre; porque mató á los Gabaonitas.
2Entonces el rey llamó á los Gabaonitas, y hablóles. (Los Gabaonitas no eran de los hijos de Israel, sino del residuo de los Amorrheos, á los cuales los hijos de Israel habían hecho juramento: mas Saúl había procurado matarlos con motivo de celo por los hijos de Israel y de Judá.)
3Dijo pues David á los Gabaonitas: ¿Qué os haré, y con qué expiaré para que bendigáis á la heredad de Jehová?
4Y los Gabaonitas le respondieron: No tenemos nosotros querella sobre plata ni sobre oro con Saúl y con su casa: ni queremos que muera hombre de Israel. Y él les dijo: Lo que vosotros dijereis os haré.
5Y ellos respondieron al rey: De aquel hombre que nos destruyó, y que maquinó contra nosotros, para extirparnos sin dejar nada de nosotros en todo el término de Israel;
6Dénsenos siete varones de sus hijos, para que los ahorquemos á Jehová en Gabaa de Saúl, el escogido de Jehová. Y el rey dijo: Yo los daré.
7Y perdonó el rey á Mephi-boseth, hijo de Jonathán, hijo de Saúl, por el juramento de Jehová que hubo entre ellos, entre David y Jonathán hijo de Saúl.
8Mas tomó el rey dos hijos de Rispa hija de Aja, los cuales ella había parido á Saúl, á saber, á Armoni y á Mephi-boseth; y cinco hijos de Michâl hija de Saúl, los cuales ella había parido á Adriel, hijo de Barzillai Molathita;
9Y entrególos en manos de los Gabaonitas, y ellos los ahorcaron en el monte delante de Jehová: y murieron juntos aquellos siete, los cuales fueron muertos en el tiempo de la siega, en los primeros días, en el principio de la siega de las cebadas.
10Tomando luego Rispa hija de Aja un saco, tendióselo sobre un peñasco, desde el principio de la siega hasta que llovió sobre ellos agua del cielo; y no dejó á ninguna ave del cielo asentarse sobre ellos de día, ni bestias del campo de noche.
11Y fué dicho á David lo que hacía Rispa hija de Aja, concubina de Saúl.
12Entonces David fué, y tomó los huesos de Saúl y los huesos de Jonathán su hijo, de los hombres de Jabes de Galaad, que los habían hurtado de la plaza de Beth-san, donde los habían colgado los Filisteos, cuando deshicieron los Filisteos á Saúl en Gilboa:
13E hizo llevar de allí los huesos de Saúl y los huesos de Jonathán su hijo; y juntaron también los huesos de los ahorcados.
14Y sepultaron los huesos de Saúl y los de su hijo Jonathán en tierra de Benjamín, en Sela, en el sepulcro de Cis su padre; é hicieron todo lo que el rey había mandado. Después se aplacó Dios con la tierra.
15Y como los Filisteos tornaron á hacer guerra á Israel, descendió David y sus siervos con él, y pelearon con los Filisteos: y David se cansó.
16En esto Isbi-benob, el cual era de los hijos del gigante, y el peso de cuya lanza era de trescientos siclos de metal, y tenía él ceñida una nueva espada, trató de herir á David:
17Mas Abisai hijo de Sarvia le socorrió, é hirió al Filisteo, y matólo. Entonces los hombres de David le juraron, diciendo: Nunca más de aquí adelante saldrás con nosotros á batalla, porque no apagues la lámpara de Israel.
18Otra segunda guerra hubo después en Gob contra los Filisteos: entonces Sibechâi Husathita hirió á Saph, que era de los hijos del gigante.
19Otra guerra hubo en Gob contra los Filisteos, en la cual Elhanan, hijo de Jaare-oregim de Beth-lehem, hirió á Goliath Getheo, el asta de cuya lanza era como un enjullo de telar.
20Después hubo otra guerra en Gath, donde hubo un hombre de grande altura, el cual tenía doce dedos en las manos, y otros doce en los pies, veinticuatro en todos: y también era de los hijos del gigante.
21Este desafió á Israel, y matólo Jonathán, hijo de Sima hermano de David.
22Estos cuatro le habían nacido al gigante en Gath, los cuales cayeron por la mano de David, y por la mano de sus siervos.

1Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.
2And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)
3Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the LORD?
4And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.
5And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israel,
6Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, I will give them.
7But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
8But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:
9And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.
10And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
11And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
12And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh-gilead, which had stolen them from the street of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa:
13And he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.
14And the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.
15Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint.
16And Ishbi-benob, which was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.
17But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.
18And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.
19And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a Beth-lehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
20And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.
21And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him.
22These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

1There was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the face of the LORD. The LORD said, “It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.”
2The king called the Gibeonites and said to them (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites, and the children of Israel had sworn to them; and Saul sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah);
3and David said to the Gibeonites, “What should I do for you? And with what should I make atonement, that you may bless the LORD’s inheritance?”
4The Gibeonites said to him, “It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Saul or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel.” He said, “I will do for you whatever you say.”
5They said to the king, “The man who consumed us and who plotted against us, that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel,
6let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of the LORD.” The king said, “I will give them.”
7But the king spared Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
