Y ACONTECIÓ después de la muerte de Saúl, que vuelto David de la derrota de los Amalecitas, estuvo dos días en Siclag:
Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag;

Al tercer día, un hombre llegó desde el campamento de Saúl con sus vestiduras rotas y con tierra en su cabeza. Cuando él llegó donde David, se acostó de cara al suelo y se postró.
Y al tercer día acaeció, que vino uno del campo de Saúl, rotos sus vestidos, y tierra sobre su cabeza: y llegando á David, postróse en tierra, é hizo reverencia.
It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.

David le dijo: "¿De dónde vienes tú?" Él contestó: "Yo escapé del campamento de Israel."
Y preguntóle David: ¿De dónde vienes? Y él respondió: Heme escapado del campo de Israel.
And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.
David said to him, “Where do you come from?” He said to him, “I have escaped out of the camp of Israel.”
David le respondió: "Por favor, dime cómo fueron las cosas." Él contestó: "El pueblo huyó de la batalla. Muchos han caído y muchos están muertos. Saúl y Jonatán, su hijo, también están muertos."
Y David le dijo: ¿Qué ha acontecido? ruégote que me lo digas. Y él respondió: El pueblo huyó de la batalla, y también muchos del pueblo cayeron y son muertos: también Saúl y Jonathán su hijo murieron.
And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.
David said to him, “How did it go? Please tell me.” He answered, “The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen and are dead. Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also.”
David le dijo al joven: " ¿Cómo sabes tú que Saúl y Jonatán, su hijo, están muertos?"
Y dijo David á aquel mancebo que le daba las nuevas: ¿Cómo sabes que Saúl es muerto, y Jonathán su hijo?
And David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son be dead?
David said to the young man who told him, “How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?”
El joven contestó: "Por casualidad yo estaba en el Monte Gilboa, y allí Saúl estaba rescostado en su lanza y los carruajes y jinetes estaban a punto de alcanzarlo.
Y el mancebo que le daba las nuevas respondió: Casualmente vine al monte de Gilboa, y hallé á Saúl que estaba recostado sobre su lanza, y venían tras él carros y gente de á caballo.
And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

Saúl se volteó, me vio y me llamó. Yo contesté: 'Aquí estoy.'

And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I.

Él me dijo: 'Por favor, párate sobre mí y mátame, pues gran sufrimiento me ha sobrecogido, pero la vida está en mí todavía.
Y él me volvió á decir: Yo te ruego que te pongas sobre mí, y me mates, porque me toman angustias, y toda mi alma está aún en mí.
He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me.
He said to me, ‘Please stand beside me, and kill me, for anguish has taken hold of me because my life lingers in me.’
Así que me paré sobre él y lo maté, porque yo sabía que él no viviría después de haber caído. Entonces, tomé la corona que estaba sobre su cabeza y la banda que estaba en su brazo y las traje aquí ante usted, mi señor."

And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.
David said to the young man who told him, “Where are you from?” He answered, “I am the son of a foreigner, an Amalekite.”
David le dijo: "¿Por qué no tuviste miedo de matar al rey ungido del SEÑOR con tu propia mano?"
Y díjole David: ¿Cómo no tuviste temor de extender tu mano para matar al ungido de Jehová?
And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed?
David said to him, “Why were you not afraid to stretch out your hand to destroy the LORD’s anointed?”
David llamó a uno de los jóvenes y dijo: "Ve y mátalo." Así que ese hombre fue y lo hirió, y el amalecita murió.
Entonces llamó David uno de los mancebos, y díjole: Llega, y mátalo. Y él lo hirió, y murió.
And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died.
David called one of the young men and said, “Go near, and cut him down!” He struck him so that he died.
Luego, David le dijo al amalecita muerto: "Tu sangre está sobre tu cabeza porque tu propia boca ha testificado en contra tuya y dijo: 'He matado al rey ungido del SEÑOR.'"
Y David le dijo: Tu sangre sea sobre tu cabeza, pues que tu boca atestiguó contra ti, diciendo: Yo maté al ungido de Jehová.
And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD’s anointed.
David said to him, “Your blood be on your head, for your mouth has testified against you, saying, ‘I have slain the LORD’s anointed.’”
Luego David cantó ésta canción de funeral acerca de Saúl y Jonatán, su hijo.
Y endechó David á Saúl y á Jonathán su hijo con esta endecha.
And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son:

The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!

De la sangre de aquellos que fueron asesinados, de los cuerpos de los poderosos, el arco de Jonatán no retrocedió, y la espada de Saúl no regresó vacía.
