1Später trug es sich zu, daß, da Davids Sohn Absalom eine schöne Schwester, Namens Thamar, besaß, Davids Sohn Amnon diese lieb gewann.
2Und zwar quälte sich Amnon ganz krank um seiner Schwester Thamar willen; sie war nämlich Jungfrau, und Amnon hielt es für unmöglich, ihr etwas anzuthun.
3Nun hatte Amnon einen Freund, Namens Jonadab, einen Sohn von Davids Bruder Simea; dieser Jonadab war ein überaus kluger Mann.
4Der fragte ihn: Warum bist du so abgezehrt, Königssohn, Morgen für Morgen? Willst du es mir nicht anvertrauen? Amnin erwiderte ihm: Ich liebe Thamar, die Schwester meines Bruders Absalom.
5Da riet ihm Jonadab: Lege dich zu Bette und stelle dich krank, und wenn dann dein Vater kommt, um nach dir zu sehen, so sage zu ihm: Wenn nur meine Schwester Thamar herkäme, um mir etwas zu essen zu geben! Wenn sie vor meinen Augen das Essen bereitete, daß ich es sehen könnte, dann wollte ich aus ihrer Hand essen!
6Amnon legte sich und stellte sich krank. Als nun der König kam, um nach ihm zu sehen, sprach Amnon zum Könige: Wenn nur meine Schwester Thamar herkäme und vor meinen Augen zwei Kuchen bereitete, daß ich sie aus ihrer Hand essen könnte!
7Da schickte David nach Hause zu Thamar und ließ ihr sagen: Gehe doch hin nach dem Hause deines Bruders Amnon und bereite ihm das Essen.
8Da ging Thamar hin nach dem Hause ihres Bruders Amnon, während er zu Bette lag. Sie nahm Teig, knetete ihn und bereitete vor seinen Augen Kuchen und buk die Kuchen.
9Dann rief sie dem Diener und schüttete sie vor ihm hin. Er weigerte sich jedoch zu essen. Vielmehr rief Amnon: Jedermann soll hinausgehen! Da ging jedermann hinaus.
10Hierauf sagte Amnon zu Thamar: Bringe das Essen ins innere Gemach, dann will ich aus deiner Hand essen. Thamar nahm die Kuchen, die sie bereitet hatte, und brachte sie ihrem Bruder Amnon ins innere Gemach.
11Als sie ihm aber zu essen bot, faßte er sie und sagte zu ihr: Komm, lege dich zu mir, meine Schwester!
12Sie erwiderte ihm: Nicht doch, mein Bruder! Entehre mich nicht, denn so handelt man nicht in Israel; begehe nicht eine solche Frevelthat!
13Wo sollte ich meine Schande hintragen? Du aber würdest in Israel als einer der schlimmsten Frevler gelten: rede doch lieber mit dem König, er wird mich dir gewiß nicht versagen!
14Er wollte ihr jedoch kein Gehör schenken, sondern überwältigte und entehrte sie und wohnte ihr bei.
15Dann aber erfaßte Amnon eine überaus tiefe Abneigung gegen sie, und zwar war die Abneigung, die er gegen sie faßte, noch größer als die Liebe, die er zu ihr gehegt hatte. So gebot ihr Amnon: Auf! gehe fort!
16Sie erwiderte ihm: Nicht doch, mein Bruder, denn dieses Unrecht wäre noch größer, als das andere, das du mir angethan hast, wenn du mich jetzt fortschicktest! Aber er wollte nicht auf sie hören,
17sondern rief seinem Knaben, seinem Diener, und gebot: Schafft mir die da fort hinaus auf die Straße und verriegle hinter ihr die Thür!
18Sie trug ein Ärmelkleid - so nämlich kleideten sich von alters her die königlichen Prinzessinnen, solange sie Jungfrauen waren. Als sie nun sein Diener hinaus auf die Straße geführt und die Thür hinter ihr verriegelt hatte,
19streute Thamar Asche auf ihr Haupt und zerriß das Ärmelkleid, das sie anhatte; sodann legte sie die Hand aufs Haupt und ging unter beständigem Wehgeschrei davon.
20Ihr Bruder Absalom redete sie an: Ist dein Bruder Amnon bei dir gewesen? Nun, meine Schwester, schweig still - es ist dein Bruder! Nimm dir diese Sache nicht zu Herzen! So blieb denn Thamar, und zwar einsam, im Hause ihres Bruders Absalom.
21Als der König David den ganzen Vorgang erfuhr, geriet er in heftigen Zorn; aber er wollte seinem Sohn Amnon nicht wehtun, denn er liebte ihn, weil er sein Erstgeborener war.
22Absalom aber redete kein Wort mit Amnon, weder im Bösen noch im Guten; denn Absalom hatte einen Groll gegen Amnon gefaßt, weil er seine Schwester Thamar entehrt hatte.
23Nach Verlauf von zwei Jahren aber trug es sich zu, daß Absalom in Baal Hazor, das bei Ephraim liegt, Schafschur hielt; dazu lud Absalom alle königlichen Prinzen.
24Auch ging Absalom zum König und sprach: Du weißt, dein Sklave hält heute Schafschur - wenn doch der König und sein Hof deinen Sklaven begleiten wollten!
25Der König erwiderte Absalom: Nicht doch, mein Sohn! Wir wollen doch nicht alle hingehen, daß wir dir nicht beschwerlich fallen! Er drang in ihn, aber er wollte nicht gehen und verabschiedete ihn.
26Da sprach Absalom: Wenn also nicht, so soll doch mein Bruder Amnon mit uns gehen! Der König erwiderte ihm: Wozu soll er mit dir gehen?
27Als aber Absalom in ihn drang, hieß er Amnon und alle königlichen Prinzen mit ihm gehen; und Absalom veranstaltete ein Gelage gleich einem Königsgelage.
28Dabei aber gab Absalom seiner Dienerschaft den Befehl: Seht zu, wenn Amnon vom Weine guter Dinge geworden ist, und ich euch zurufe: Haut Amnon nieder! - so bringt ihn um! Seid unbesorgt: ich habe euch ja den Befehl gegeben - seig mutig und zeigt euch als wackere Männer!
29So verfuhr denn Absaloms Dienerschaft mit Amnon nach Absaloms Befehl. Da standen alle königlichen Prinzen auf, bestiegen ein jeder sein Maultier und flohen.
30Während sie aber noch unterwegs waren, war schon das Gerücht zu David gedrungen: Absalom hat alle königlichen Prinzen ermordet, so daß kein einziger von ihnen übrig geblieben ist!
31Da stand der König auf, zerriß seine Kleider und legte sich auf den Erdboden, und seine Hofbeamten alle, die ihn umstanden, zerrissen ihre Kleider.
32Da ergriff Jonadab, der Sohn von Davids Bruder Simea, das Wort und sprach: Mein Herr, denke nicht, man habe die jungen Leute, die königlichen Prinzen, alle ums Leben gebracht: vielmehr ist Amnon alleine tot, denn über Absaloms Gesicht lag ein unheilverkündender Zug seit dem Tage, da jener seine Schwester Thamar entehrt hatte.
33So setze sich mein königlicher Herr nicht den Gedanken in den Sinn, alle königlichen Prinzen seien tot - vielmehr ist Amnon allein tot.
34Absalom aber entfloh. Als aber der Diener, der Wächter ausschaute, gewahrte er, daß eine Menge Leute auf der Straße nach Horonaim den Berg herabkamen. Der Wächter kam und meldete dem König: Ich habe Männer von der Straße nach Horonaim von der Seite des Berges herkommend gesehen.
35Da sprach Jonadab zum Könige: Siehst du? die Prinzen kommen; wie dein Sklave gesagt hat, so ist es geschehen.
36Als er eben ausgeredet hatte, da kamen denn die Prinzen und weinten laut auf; auch der König und sein ganzer Hof brachen in überlautes weinen aus, (37b) und der König trauerte um seinen Sohn die ganze Zeit über.
37Absalom aber war geflohen und ging zu Thalmai, dem Sohne Ammihuds, dem Könige von Gesur,
38Dort war er drei Jahre
39Aber des Königs Gemüt sehnte sich danach, Absalom zu vergeben; denn er hatte sich darüber getröstet, daß Amnon tot war.

1ACONTECIÓ después de esto, que teniendo Absalom hijo de David una hermana hermosa que se llamaba Thamar, enamoróse de ella Amnón hijo de David.
2Y estaba Amnón angustiado hasta enfermar, por Thamar su hermana: porque por ser ella virgen, parecía á Amnón que sería cosa dificultosa hacerle algo.
3Y Amnón tenía un amigo que se llamaba Jonadab, hijo de Simea, hermano de David: y era Jonadab hombre muy astuto.
4Y éste le dijo: Hijo del rey, ¿por qué de día en día vas así enflaqueciendo? ¿no me lo descubrirás á mí? Y Amnón le respondió: Yo amo á Thamar la hermana de Absalom mi hermano.
5Y Jonadab le dijo: Acuéstate en tu cama, y finge que estás enfermo; y cuando tu padre viniere á visitarte, dile: Ruégote que venga mi hermana Thamar, para que me conforte con alguna comida, y aderece delante de mí alguna vianda, para que viendo yo, la coma de su mano.
6Acostóse pues Amnón, y fingió que estaba enfermo, y vino el rey á visitarle: y dijo Amnón al rey: Yo te ruego que venga mi hermana Thamar, y haga delante de mí dos hojuelas, que coma yo de su mano.
7Y David envió á Thamar á su casa, diciendo: Ve ahora á casa de Amnón tu hermano, y hazle de comer.
8Y fué Thamar á casa de su hermano Amnón, el cual estaba acostado; y tomó harina, y amasó é hizo hojuelas delante de él, y aderezólas.
9Tomó luego la sartén, y sacólas delante de él: mas él no quiso comer. Y dijo Amnón: Echad fuera de aquí á todos. Y todos se salieron de allí.
10Entonces Amnón dijo á Thamar: Trae la comida á la alcoba, para que yo coma de tu mano. Y tomando Thamar las hojuelas que había aderezado, llevólas á su hermano Amnón á la alcoba.
11Y como ella se las puso delante para que comiese, él trabó de ella, diciéndole: Ven, hermana mía acuéstate conmigo.
12Ella entonces le respondió: No, hermano mío, no me hagas fuerza; porque no se ha de hacer así en Israel. No hagas tal desacierto.
13Porque, ¿dónde iría yo con mi deshonra? Y aun tú serías estimado como uno de los perversos en Israel. Ruégote pues ahora que hables al rey, que no me negará á ti.
14Mas él no la quiso oir; antes pudiendo más que ella la forzó, y echóse con ella.
15Aborrecióla luego Amnón de tan grande aborrecimiento, que el odio con que la aborreció fué mayor que el amor con que la había amado. Y díjole Amnón: Levántate y vete.
16Y ella le respondió: No es razón; mayor mal es éste de echarme, que el que me has hecho. Mas él no la quiso oir:
17Antes llamando su criado que le servía dijo: Echame ésta allá fuera, y tras ella cierra la puerta.
18Y tenía ella sobre sí una ropa de colores, traje que las hijas vírgenes de los reyes vestían. Echóla pues fuera su criado, y cerró la puerta tras ella.
19Entonces Thamar tomó ceniza, y esparcióla sobre su cabeza, y rasgó la ropa de colores de que estaba vestida, y puestas sus manos sobre su cabeza, fuése gritando.
20Y díjole su hermano Absalom: ¿Ha estado contigo tu hermano Amnón? Pues calla ahora, hermana mía: tu hermano es; no pongas tu corazón en este negocio. Y quedóse Thamar desconsolada en casa de Absalom su hermano.
21Y luego que el rey David oyó todo esto, fué muy enojado.
22Mas Absalom no habló con Amnón ni malo ni bueno; bien que Absalom aborrecía á Amnón, porque había forzado á Thamar su hermana.
23Y aconteció pasados dos años, que Absalom tenía esquiladores en Bala-hasor, que está junto á Ephraim; y convidó Absalom á todos los hijos del rey.
24Y vino Absalom al rey, y díjole: He aquí, tu siervo tiene ahora esquiladores: yo ruego que venga el rey y sus siervos con tu siervo.
25Y respondió el rey á Absalom: No, hijo mío, no vamos todos, porque no te hagamos costa. Y aunque porfió con él, no quiso ir, mas bendíjolo.
26Entonces dijo Absalom: Si no, ruégote que venga con nosotros Amnón mi hermano. Y el rey le respondió: ¿Para qué ha de ir contigo?
27Y como Absalom lo importunase, dejó ir con él á Amnón y á todos los hijos del rey.
28Y había Absalom dado orden á sus criados, diciendo: Ahora bien, mirad cuándo el corazón de Amnón estará alegre del vino, y en diciéndoos yo, Herid á Amnón, entonces matadle, y no temáis; que yo os lo he mandado. Esforzaos pues, y sed valientes.
29Y los criados de Absalom hicieron con Amnón como Absalom lo había mandado. Levantáronse luego todos los hijos del rey, y subieron todos en sus mulos, y huyeron.
30Y estando aún ellos en el camino, llegó á David el rumor que decía: Absalom ha muerto á todos los hijos del rey, que ninguno de ellos ha quedado.
31Entonces levantándose David, rasgó sus vestidos, y echóse en tierra, y todos sus criados, rasgados sus vestidos, estaban delante.
32Y Jonadab, hijo de Simea hermano de David, habló y dijo: No diga mi señor que han muerto á todos los jóvenes hijos del rey, que sólo Amnón es muerto: porque en boca de Absalom estaba puesto desde el día que Amnón forzó á Thamar su hermana.
33Por tanto, ahora no ponga mi señor el rey en su corazón esa voz que dice: Todos los hijos del rey son muertos: porque sólo Amnón es muerto.
34Absalom huyó luego. Entre tanto, alzando sus ojos el mozo que estaba en atalaya, miró, y he aquí mucho pueblo que venía á sus espaldas por el camino de hacia el monte.
35Y dijo Jonadab al rey: He allí los hijos del rey que vienen: es así como tu siervo ha dicho.
36Y como él acabó de hablar, he aquí los hijos del rey que vinieron, y alzando su voz lloraron. Y también el mismo rey y todos sus siervos lloraron con muy grandes lamentos.
37Mas Absalom huyó, y fuése á Talmai hijo de Amiud, rey de Gessur. Y David lloraba por su hijo todos los días.
38Y después que Absalom huyó y se fué á Gessur, estuvo allá tres años.
39Y el rey David deseó ver á Absalom: porque ya estaba consolado acerca de Amnón que era muerto.

1And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
2And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do any thing to her.
3But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.
4And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.
5And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.
6So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.
7Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon’s house, and dress him meat.
8So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes.
9And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.
10And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.
11And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.
12And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.
13And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.
14Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.
15Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.
16And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.
17Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.
18And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king’s daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.
19And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.
20And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom’s house.
21But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth.
22And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.
23And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king’s sons.
24And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.
25And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.
26Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?
27But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.
28Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.
29And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and every man gat him up upon his mule, and fled.
30And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king’s sons, and there is not one of them left.
31Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent.
32And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
33Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king’s sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.
34But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.
35And Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the king’s sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.
36And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king’s sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.
37But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.
38So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.
39And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.

1After this, Absalom the son of David had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
2Amnon was so troubled that he became sick because of his sister Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed hard to Amnon to do anything to her.
3But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother; and Jonadab was a very subtle man.
4He said to him, “Why, son of the king, are you so sad from day to day? Won’t you tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”
5Jonadab said to him, “Lay down on your bed and pretend to be sick. When your father comes to see you, tell him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’”
6So Amnon lay down and faked being sick. When the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.”
7Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, “Go now to your brother Amnon’s house, and prepare food for him.”
8So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was lying down. She took dough, kneaded it, made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.
9She took the pan and poured them out before him, but he refused to eat. Amnon said, “Have all men leave me.” Then every man went out from him.

24Absalom came to the king and said, “See now, your servant has sheep shearers. Please let the king and his servants go with your servant.”
25The king said to Absalom, “No, my son, let’s not all go, lest we be burdensome to you.” He pressed him; however he would not go, but blessed him.
26Then Absalom said, “If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us.” The king said to him, “Why should he go with you?”
27But Absalom pressed him, and he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.
28Absalom commanded his servants, saying, “Mark now, when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!”
29The servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and every man got up on his mule and fled.
30While they were on the way, the news came to David, saying, “Absalom has slain all the king’s sons, and there is not one of them left!”
31Then the king arose, and tore his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn.
32Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother, answered, “Don’t let my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men, the king’s sons, for Amnon only is dead; for by the appointment of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.
33Now therefore don’t let my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king’s sons are dead; for only Amnon is dead.”
34But Absalom fled. The young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, many people were coming by way of the hillside behind him.
35Jonadab said to the king, “Behold, the king’s sons are coming! It is as your servant said.”
36As soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the king’s sons came, and lifted up their voices and wept. The king also and all his servants wept bitterly.
37But Absalom fled and went to Talmai the son of Ammihur, king of Geshur. David mourned for his son every day.
38So Absalom fled and went to Geshur, and was there three years.
39King David longed to go out to Absalom, for he was comforted concerning Amnon, since he was dead.
