1Assim, o rei enviou mensageiros que reuniram até ele todos os anciãos de Judá e de Jerusalém.
2Então, o rei subiu ao templo de Yahweh e com ele todos os homens de Judá, todos os habitantes de Jerusalém, os sacerdotes, os profetas e todas as pessoas, do pequeno ao grande. Ele, então, leu aos ouvidos deles todas as palavras do Livro da Aliança, que havia sido encontrado no templo de Yahweh.
3O rei ficou ao lado da coluna e fez uma aliança perante Yahweh, de andar após Yahweh e guardar os Seus mandamentos, Seus regulamentos e Seus estatutos, com todo seu coração e toda a sua alma, para confirmar as palavras da aliança que foram escritas neste livro. Assim todo o povo concordou em apoiar a aliança.
4O rei ordenou ao sumo sacerdote Hilquias, aos sacerdotes abaixo dele e aos porteiros a levarem para fora do templo de Yahweh todos os vasos que haviam sido feitos para Baal e Aserá e para todas as estrelas do céu. Ele os queimou fora de Jerusalém, nos campos de Cedrom, e carregou suas cinzas para Betel.
5Ele destituiu os sacerdotes idólatras que os reis de Judá haviam escolhido para queimar incenso nos lugares altos nas cidades de Judá e nos lugares ao redor de Jerusalém — aqueles que queimaram incensos para Baal, para o sol e a lua, para os planetas e para todas as estrelas do céu.
6Ele levou o poste de Aserá para fora do templo de Yahweh, para o Vale de Cedrom, fora de Jerusalém, e o queimou lá. Reduziu-o a pó e jogou o pó dentro dos túmulos do povo comum.
7Ele limpou as salas das prostitutas cultuais que estavam no templo de Yahweh, onde as mulheres teciam vestimentas para Aserá.
8Josias levou todos os sacerdotes para fora da cidade de Judá e profanou os lugares altos onde os sacerdotes haviam queimado incenso, desde Geba até Berseba. Destruiu os lugares altos que estavam na entrada da porta de Josué (o governador da cidade), que estava à esquerda da porta da cidade.
9Apesar de os sacerdotes daqueles lugares altos não poderem servir no altar de Yahweh em Jerusalém, eles comiam pão sem fermento, no meio de seus irmãos.
10Josias profanou Tofete, que estava no Vale do Ben Hinom, para que ninguém pudesse oferecer seu filho ou sua filha como holocausto a Moloque.
11Ele tirou os cavalos que os reis de Judá haviam dado ao sol. Eles estavam na área da entrada do templo de Yahweh, próxima à sala de Natã-Meleque, o camareiro. Josias queimou as carruagens do sol.
12O rei Josias destruiu os altares que estavam no terraço na parte superior de Acaz, que os reis de Judá haviam feito, e os altares que Manassés havia feito nos dois pátios do templo de Yahweh. Josias esmagou-os em pedaços e jogou-os no Vale de Cedrom.
13O rei profanou os lugares altos que estavam ao leste de Jerusalém, ao sul do monte da Destruição, que Salomão, o rei de Israel, havia construído para Astarote, o repugnante ídolo dos sidônios; para Camos, o repugnante ídolo de Moabe; e para Milcom, o repugnante ídolo dos amonitas.
14O rei Josias quebrou em pedaços os pilares de pedra, cortou os postes de Aserá e preencheu o lugar com ossos humanos.
15Josias também destruiu completamente o altar que estava em Betel e os lugares altos que Jeroboão, filho de Nebate (aquele que fez Israel pecar), havia construído. Ele queimou o altar e o lugar alto e os reduziu a pó. Ele também queimou o poste de Aserá.
16Enquanto Josias olhava ao redor, notou os túmulos que estavam ao lado do monte. Ele enviou homens para pegarem os ossos dos túmulos; depois os queimou no altar, e, assim, o profanou. Isso ocorreu de acordo com a palavra de Yahweh que o homem de Deus havia falado, o homem que falara dessas coisas anteriormente.
17Depois ele disse: "O que é aquele monumento que vejo?". Os homens da cidade disseram-lhe: "Aquele é o túmulo do homem de Deus que veio de Judá e falou sobre essas coisas que acabaste de fazer contra o altar de Betel".
18Assim Josias disse: "Deixai-o estar. Ninguém deve mover os ossos dele". Assim deixaram os ossos como estavam, juntamente com os ossos do profeta que havia vindo de Samaria.
19Então, Josias removeu todas as casas dos lugares altos que estavam na cidade de Samaria, as quais os reis de Israel haviam feito, e que haviam provocado Yahweh à ira. Ele lhes fez exatamente o mesmo que havia feito em Betel.
20Matou todos os sacerdotes dos lugares altos, nos altares, e queimou ossos humanos neles. Depois ele retornou a Jerusalém.
21Então, o rei ordenou a todas as pessoas, dizendo: "Mantende a Páscoa para Yahweh, vosso Deus, como está escrito neste Livro da Aliança".
22Tal celebração de Páscoa nunca havia sido realizada desde os dias dos juízes que governaram Israel, nem em todos os dias dos reis de Israel ou Judá.
23Mas, no décimo oitavo ano do rei Josias, essa Páscoa de Yahweh foi celebrada em Jerusalém.
24Josias também baniu aqueles que falavam com os mortos ou com os espíritos. Ele também proibiu os feiticeiros, os ídolos e todas as coisas repugnantes que foram vistas na terra de Judá e em Jerusalém, para confirmar as palavras da lei que foram escritas no livro que o sacerdote Hilquias havia achado no templo de Yahweh.
25Antes de Josias, não houve nenhum rei como ele, que se voltou para Yahweh com todo o seu coração, toda a sua alma e toda a sua força, que seguiu toda a lei de Moisés. E nunca mais houve um rei como ele.
26No entanto, Yahweh não Se desfez da ferocidade de Sua ira, que havia sido acendida contra Judá por toda a adoração pagã com que Manassés O havia provocado.
27Então, Yahweh disse: "Eu removerei Judá de diante da minha vista, assim como removi Israel, e rejeitarei Jerusalém, a cidade que escolhi, e o templo sobre a qual Eu havia dito: 'Meu nome estará lá'".
28Quanto aos outros assuntos relativos a Josias, todas as coisas que ele fez, não estão escritas no livro de Crônicas dos reis de Judá?
29Em seus dias, Faraó Neco, rei do Egito, lutou contra o rei da Assíria no rio Eufrates. O rei Josias encontrou Neco em batalha, e Neco o matou em Megido.
30Os servos de Josias o carregaram morto em uma carruagem desde Megido, trouxeram-lhe para Jerusalém e sepultaram-no em seu próprio túmulo. Então, o povo da terra tomou Jeocaz, filho de Josias, ungiram-no, e o fizeram rei no lugar de seu pai.
31Joacaz tinha vinte e três anos quando começou a reinar e reinou três meses em Jerusalém. O nome de sua mãe era Hamutal; ela era filha de Jeremias de Libna.

1ENTONCES el rey envió, y juntaron á él todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalem.
2Y subió el rey á la casa de Jehová con todos los varones de Judá, y con todos los moradores de Jerusalem, con los sacerdotes y profetas y con todo el pueblo, desde el más chico hasta el más grande; y leyó, oyéndolo ellos, todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en la casa de Jehová.
3Y poniéndose el rey en pie junto á la columna, hizo alianza delante de Jehová, de que irían en pos de Jehová, y guardarían sus mandamientos, y sus testimonios, y sus estatutos, con todo el corazón y con toda el alma, y que cumplirían las palabras de la alianza que estaban escritas en aquel libro. Y todo el pueblo confirmó el pacto.
4Entonces mandó el rey al sumo sacerdote Hilcías, y á los sacerdotes de segundo orden, y á los guardianes de la puerta, que sacasen del templo de Jehová todos los vasos que habían sido hechos para Baal, y para el bosque, y para toda la milicia del cielo; y quemólos fuera de Jerusalem en el campo de Cedrón, é hizo llevar las cenizas de ellos á Beth-el.
5Y quitó á los Camoreos, que habían puesto los reyes de Judá para que quemasen perfumes en los altos en las ciudades de Judá, y en los alrededores de Jerusalem; y asimismo á los que quemaban perfumes á Baal, al sol y á la luna, y á los signos, y á todo el ejército del cielo.
6Hizo también sacar el bosque fuera de la casa de Jehová, fuera de Jerusalem, al torrente de Cedrón, y quemólo en el torrente de Cedrón, y tornólo en polvo, y echó el polvo de él sobre los sepulcros de los hijos del pueblo.
7Además derribó las casas de los sodomitas que estaban en la casa de Jehová, en las cuales tejían las mujeres pabellones para el bosque.
8E hizo venir todos los sacerdotes de las ciudades de Judá, y profanó los altos donde los sacerdotes quemaban perfumes, desde Gabaa hasta Beer-seba; y derribó los altares de las puertas que estaban á la entrada de la puerta de Josué, gobernador de la ciudad, que estaban á la mano izquierda, á la puerta de la ciudad.
9Empero los sacerdotes de los altos no subían al altar de Jehová en Jerusalem, mas comían panes sin levadura entre sus hermanos.
10Asimismo profanó á Topheth, que está en el valle del hijo de Hinnom, porque ninguno pasase su hijo ó su hija por fuego á Moloch.
11Quitó también los caballos que los reyes de Judá habían dedicado al sol á la entrada del templo de Jehová, junto á la cámara de Nathan-melech eunuco, el cual tenía cargo de los ejidos; y quemó al fuego los carros del sol.
12Derribó además el rey los altares que estaban sobre la techumbre de la sala de Achâz, que los reyes de Judá habían hecho, y los altares que había hecho Manasés en los dos atrios de la casa de Jehová; y de allí corrió y arrojó el polvo en el torrente de Cedrón.
13Asimismo profanó el rey los altos que estaban delante de Jerusalem, á la mano derecha del monte de la destrucción, los cuales Salomón rey de Israel había edificado á Astharoth, abominación de los Sidonios, y á Chêmos abominación de Moab, y á Milcom abominación de los hijos de Ammón.
14Y quebró las estatuas, y taló los bosques, é hinchió el lugar de ellos de huesos de hombres.
15Igualmente el altar que estaba en Beth-el, y el alto que había hecho Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar á Israel, aquel altar y el alto destruyó; y quemó el alto, y lo tornó en polvo, y puso fuego al bosque.
16Y volvióse Josías, y viendo los sepulcros que estaban allí en el monte, envió y sacó los huesos de los sepulcros, y quemólos sobre el altar para contaminarlo, conforme á la palabra de Jehová que había profetizado el varón de Dios, el cual había anunciado estos negocios.
17Y después dijo: ¿Qué título es este que veo? Y los de la ciudad le respondieron: Este es el sepulcro del varón de Dios que vino de Judá, y profetizó estas cosas que tú has hecho sobre el altar de Beth-el.
18Y él dijo: Dejadlo; ninguno mueva sus huesos: y así fueron preservados sus huesos, y los huesos del profeta que había venido de Samaria.
19Y todas las casas de los altos que estaban en las ciudades de Samaria, las cuales habían hecho los reyes de Israel para provocar á ira, quitólas también Josías, é hizo de ellas como había hecho en Beth-el.
20Mató además sobre los altares á todos los sacerdotes de los altos que allí estaban, y quemó sobre ellos huesos de hombres, y volvióse á Jerusalem.
21Entonces mandó el rey á todo el pueblo, diciendo: Haced la pascua á Jehová vuestro Dios, conforme á lo que está escrito en el libro de esta alianza.
22No fué hecha tal pascua desde los tiempos de los jueces que gobernaron á Israel, ni en todos los tiempos de los reyes de Israel, y de los reyes de Judá.
23A los diez y ocho años del rey Josías fué hecha aquella pascua á Jehová en Jerusalem.
24Asimismo barrió Josías los pythones, adivinos, y terapheos, y todas las abominaciones que se veían en la tierra de Judá y en Jerusalem, para cumplir las palabras de la ley que estaban escritas en el libro que el sacerdote Hilcías había hallado en la casa de Jehová.
25No hubo tal rey antes de él que se convirtiese á Jehová de todo su corazón, y de toda su alma, y de todas su fuerzas, conforme á toda la ley de Moisés; ni después de él nació otro tal.
26Con todo eso, no se volvió Jehová del ardor de su grande ira, con que se había encendido su enojo contra Judá, por todas las provocaciones con que Manasés le había irritado.
27Y dijo Jehová: También he de quitar de mi presencia á Judá, como quité á Israel, y abominaré á esta ciudad que había escogido, á Jerusalem, y á la casa de la cual había yo dicho: Mi nombre será allí.
28Lo demás de los hechos de Josías, y todas las cosas que hizo, ¿no está todo escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?
29En aquellos días Faraón Nechâo rey de Egipto subió contra el rey de Asiria al río Eufrates, y salió contra él el rey Josías; pero aquél, así que le vió, matólo en Megiddo.
30Y sus siervos lo pusieron en un carro, y trajéronlo muerto de Megiddo á Jerusalem, y sepultáronlo en su sepulcro. Entonces el pueblo de la tierra tomó á Joachâz hijo de Josías, y ungiéronle y pusiéronlo por rey en lugar de su padre.
31De veintitrés años era Joachâz cuando comenzó á reinar, y reinó tres meses en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Amutal, hija de Jeremías de Libna.
32Y él hizo lo malo en ojos de Jehová, conforme á todas las cosas que sus padres habían hecho.
33Y echólo preso Faraón Nechâo en Ribla en la provincia de Hamath, reinando él en Jerusalem; é impuso sobre la tierra una multa de cien talentos de plata, y uno de oro.
34Entonces Faraón Nechâo puso por rey á Eliacim hijo de Josías, en lugar de Josías su padre, y mudóle el nombre en el de Joacim; y tomó á Joachâz, y llevólo á Egipto, y murió allí.
35Y Joacim pagó á Faraón la plata y el oro; mas hizo apreciar la tierra para dar el dinero conforme al mandamiento de Faraón, sacando la plata y oro del pueblo de la tierra, de cada uno según la estimación de su hacienda, para dar á Faraón Nechâo.
36De veinticinco años era Joacim cuando comenzó á Reinar, y once años reinó en Jerusalem. El nombre de su madre fué Zebuda hija de Pedaia, de Ruma.
37E hizo lo malo en ojos de Jehová, conforme á todas las cosas que sus padres habían hecho.

1And the king sent, and they gathered unto him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.
2And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the LORD.
3And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.
4And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the door, to bring forth out of the temple of the LORD all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the grove, and for all the host of heaven: and he burned them without Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried the ashes of them unto Beth-el.
5And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.
6And he brought out the grove from the house of the LORD, without Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and stamped it small to powder, and cast the powder thereof upon the graves of the children of the people.
7And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the LORD, where the women wove hangings for the grove.
8And he brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beer-sheba, and brake down the high places of the gates that were in the entering in of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.
9Nevertheless the priests of the high places came not up to the altar of the LORD in Jerusalem, but they did eat of the unleavened bread among their brethren.
10And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.
11And he took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entering in of the house of the LORD, by the chamber of Nathan-melech the chamberlain, which was in the suburbs, and burned the chariots of the sun with fire.
12And the altars that were on the top of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the LORD, did the king beat down, and brake them down from thence, and cast the dust of them into the brook Kidron.
13And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile.
14And he brake in pieces the images, and cut down the groves, and filled their places with the bones of men.
15Moreover the altar that was at Beth-el, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he brake down, and burned the high place, and stamped it small to powder, and burned the grove.
16And as Josiah turned himself, he spied the sepulchres that were there in the mount, and sent, and took the bones out of the sepulchres, and burned them upon the altar, and polluted it, according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.
17Then he said, What title is that that I see? And the men of the city told him, It is the sepulchre of the man of God, which came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Beth-el.
18And he said, Let him alone; let no man move his bones. So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.
19And all the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the Lord to anger, Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Beth-el.
20And he slew all the priests of the high places that were there upon the altars, and burned men’s bones upon them, and returned to Jerusalem.
21And the king commanded all the people, saying, Keep the passover unto the LORD your God, as it is written in the book of this covenant.
22Surely there was not holden such a passover from the days of the judges that judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah;
23But in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, wherein this passover was holden to the LORD in Jerusalem.
24Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the LORD.
25And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.
26Notwithstanding the LORD turned not from the fierceness of his great wrath, wherewith his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocations that Manasseh had provoked him withal.
27And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.
28Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
29In his days Pharaoh-nechoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and he slew him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.
30And his servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own sepulchre. And the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father’s stead.
31Jehoahaz was twenty and three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hamutal, the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
32And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.
33And Pharaoh-nechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of an hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.
34And Pharaoh-nechoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the room of Josiah his father, and turned his name to Jehoiakim, and took Jehoahaz away: and he came to Egypt, and died there.
35And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of every one according to his taxation, to give it unto Pharaoh-nechoh.
36Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Zebudah, the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.
37And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his fathers had done.

1The king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.
2The king went up to the LORD’s house, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him—with the priests, the prophets, and all the people, both small and great; and he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the LORD’s house.
3The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the LORD to walk after the LORD and to keep his commandments, his testimonies, and his statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book; and all the people agreed to the covenant.
4The king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring out of the LORD’s temple all the vessels that were made for Baal, for the Asherah, and for all the army of the sky; and he burned them outside of Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.
5He got rid of the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, to the moon, to the planets, and to all the army of the sky.
6He brought out the Asherah from the LORD’s house, outside of Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and beat it to dust, and cast its dust on the graves of the common people.
7He broke down the houses of the male shrine prostitutes that were in the LORD’s house, where the women wove hangings for the Asherah.
8He brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.
9Nevertheless the priests of the high places didn’t come up to the LORD’s altar in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brothers.

13The king defiled the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mountain of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon.
14He broke in pieces the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and filled their places with men’s bones.
15Moreover the altar that was at Bethel and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and beat it to dust, and burned the Asherah.
16As Josiah turned himself, he spied the tombs that were there in the mountain; and he sent, and took the bones out of the tombs, and burned them on the altar, and defiled it, according to the LORD’s word which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.
17Then he said, “What monument is that which I see?” The men of the city told him, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel.”
18He said, “Let him be! Let no one move his bones.” So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria.
19All the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the LORD to anger, Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Bethel.
20He killed all the priests of the high places that were there, on the altars, and burned men’s bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem.
21The king commanded all the people, saying, “Keep the Passover to the LORD your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant.”
22Surely there was not kept such a Passover from the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah;
23but in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, this Passover was kept to the LORD in Jerusalem.
24Moreover, Josiah removed those who had familiar spirits, the wizards, and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the LORD’s house.
25There was no king like him before him, who turned to the LORD with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; and there was none like him who arose after him.
26Notwithstanding, the LORD didn’t turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger burned against Judah, because of all the provocation with which Manasseh had provoked him.
27The LORD said, “I will also remove Judah out of my sight, as I have removed Israel; and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, even Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, ‘My name shall be there.’”
28Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
29In his days Pharaoh Necoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates; and King Josiah went against him, but Pharaoh Necoh killed him at Megiddo when he saw him.
30His servants carried him dead in a chariot from Megiddo, brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. The people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father’s place.
31Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.
32He did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, according to all that his fathers had done.
33Pharaoh Necoh put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
34Pharaoh Necoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim; but he took Jehoahaz away, and he came to Egypt and died there.
35Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh. He exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, from everyone according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Necoh.
36Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.
37He did that which was evil in the LORD’s sight, according to all that his fathers had done.
