1Josias avait huit ans à son avènement et il régna trente-un ans à Jérusalem. Or le nom de sa mère était Jedida, fille de Adaïa, de Botsekath.
2Et il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, et marcha sur tous les errements de David, son père, et ne dévia ni à droite ni à gauche.
3Or il arriva la dix-huitième année de Josias que le roi envoya Saphan, fils d'Atsalia, fils de Mesullam, le Secrétaire, au temple de l'Éternel
4avec cette instruction : Monte chez le Grand-Prêtre Hilkia, afin qu'il délivre l'argent entré au temple de l'Éternel, que les portiers ont recueilli des mains du peuple, et qu'on le dépose entre les mains des entrepreneurs préposés dans le temple de l'Éternel,
5pour que ceux-ci en paient les ouvriers occupés dans le temple de l'Éternel, à l'effet de réparer les brèches de l'édifice,
6les charpentiers et les architectes et les maçons, les achats de bois et de pierre de taille pour la restauration de l'édifice,
7mais qu'avec eux l'on ne dresse pas un état de l'argent remis entre leurs mains, car ils agissent avec bonne foi.
8Alors le Grand-Prêtre Hilkia dit à Saphan, le Secrétaire : J'ai trouvé le livre de la Loi dans le temple de l'Éternel.
9Et Hilkia remit le volume à Saphan, qui le lut. Et Saphan, le Secrétaire, vint chez le roi et rendit compte au roi et dit ; Tes serviteurs ont déboursé l'argent qui se trouvait dans le temple et l'ont remis entre les mains des entrepreneurs préposés dans le temple de l'Éternel.
10Et Saphan, le Secrétaire, fit rapport au roi en ces termes : Le Prêtre Hilkia m'a remis un livre. Et Saphan en fit la lecture devant le roi.
11Et lorsque le roi entendit le contenu du Livre de la Loi, il déchira ses habits.
12Et le roi donna ses ordres au Prêtre Hilkia et à Achikam, fils de Saphan, et à Achbor, fils de Michée, et à Saphan, le Secrétaire, et à Asaïa, serviteur du roi, en ces termes :
13Allez et consultez l'Éternel pour moi et pour le peuple et pour tout Juda au sujet du contenu de ce livre trouvé. Car grand est le courroux de l'Éternel, allumé contre nous, parce que nos pères n'ont pas écouté les paroles de ce livre pour se conformer à tout ce qui nous y est prescrit.
14Alors le Prêtre Hilkia et Achikam et Achbor et Saphan et Asaïa se rendirent chez Hulda, la prophétesse, femme de Sallum, fils de Thikva, fils de Harhas, garde du vestiaire (or elle habitait à Jérusalem dans l'autre quartier), et ils lui parlèrent.
15Et elle leur dit : Ainsi parle l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël : Dites à l'homme qui vous délègue vers moi :
16Ainsi parle l'Éternel : Voici, j'amène la calamité sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants, toutes les choses contenues dans le livre lu par le roi de Juda.
17Puisqu'ils m'ont abandonné, et qu'ils ont encensé d'autres dieux, à l'effet de me provoquer par tous les ouvrages de leurs mains, pour cela, mon courroux s'est allumé contre ce lieu, et il ne s'éteindra pas.
18Quant au roi de Juda qui vous délègue pour consulter l'Éternel, vous lui parlerez ainsi : Ainsi parle l'Éternel, Dieu d'Israël : Quant aux paroles que tu as entendues,
19puisque ton cœur est sensible et que tu t'humilies devant l'Éternel à l'ouïe de ce que j'ai prononcé contre ce lieu et ses habitants, qui seront l'objet de la désolation et de la malédiction, et puisque tu as déchiré tes habits et pleuré devant moi, moi aussi j'ai entendu, dit l'Éternel.
20C'est pourquoi voici, je te recueillerai auprès de tes pères et tu seras recueilli auprès de leurs tombeaux en paix et tes yeux n'auront pas à voir toute la calamité que j'amène sur ce lieu. Et ils rendirent au roi la réponse.

1CUANDO Josías comenzó á reinar era de ocho años, y reinó en Jerusalem treinta y un años. El nombre de su madre fué Idida hija de Adaía de Boscath.
2E hizo lo recto en ojos de Jehová, y anduvo en todo el camino de David su padre, sin apartarse á diestra ni á siniestra.
3Y á los dieciocho años del rey Josías, fué que envió el rey á Saphán hijo de Azalía, hijo de Mesullam, escriba, á la casa de Jehová, diciendo:
4Ve á Hilcías, sumo sacerdote: dile que recoja el dinero que se ha metido en la casa de Jehová, que han juntado del pueblo los guardianes de la puerta,
5Y que lo pongan en manos de los que hacen la obra, que tienen cargo de la casa de Jehová, y que lo entreguen á los que hacen la obra de la casa de Jehová, para reparar las aberturas de la casa:
6A los carpinteros, á los maestros y albañiles, para comprar madera y piedra de cantería para reparar la casa;
7Y que no se les cuente el dinero cuyo manejo se les confiare, porque ellos proceden con fidelidad.
8Entonces dijo el sumo sacerdote Hilcías á Saphán escriba: El libro de la ley he hallado en la casa de Jehová. E Hilcías dió el libro á Saphán, y leyólo.
9Viniendo luego Saphán escriba al rey, dió al rey la respuesta, y dijo: Tus siervos han juntado el dinero que se halló en el templo, y lo han entregado en poder de los que hacen la obra, que tienen cargo de la casa de Jehová.
10Asimismo Saphán escriba declaró al rey, diciendo: Hilcías el sacerdote me ha dado un libro. Y leyólo Saphán delante del rey.
11Y cuando el rey hubo oído las palabras del libro de la ley, rasgó sus vestidos.
12Luego mandó el rey á Hilcías el sacerdote, y á Ahicam hijo de Saphán, y á Achbor hijo de Michâía, y á Saphán escriba, y á Asaía siervo del rey, diciendo:
13Id, y preguntad á Jehová por mí, y por el pueblo, y por todo Judá, acerca de las palabras de este libro que se ha hallado: porque grande ira de Jehová es la que ha sido encendida contra nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no escucharon las palabras de este libro, para hacer conforme á todo lo que nos fué escrito.
14Entonces fué Hilcías el sacerdote, y Ahicam y Achbor y Saphán y Asaía, á Hulda profetisa, mujer de Sallum hijo de Ticva hijo de Araas, guarda de las vestiduras, la cual moraba en Jerusalem en la segunda parte de la ciudad, y hablaron con ella.
15Y ella les dijo: Así ha dicho Jehová el Dios de Israel: Decid al varón que os envió á mí:
16Así dijo Jehová: He aquí yo traigo mal sobre este lugar, y sobre los que en él moran, á saber, todas las palabras del libro que ha leído el rey de Judá:
17Por cuanto me dejaron á mí, y quemaron perfumes á dioses ajenos, provocándome á ira en toda obra de sus manos; y mi furor se ha encendido contra este lugar, y no se apagará.
18Mas al rey de Judá que os ha enviado para que preguntaseis á Jehová, diréis así: Así ha dicho Jehová el Dios de Israel: Por cuanto oíste las palabras del libro,
19Y tu corazón se enterneció, y te humillaste delante de Jehová, cuando oíste lo que yo he pronunciado contra este lugar y contra sus moradores, que vendrían á ser asolados y malditos, y rasgaste tus vestidos, y lloraste en mi presencia, también yo te he oído, dice Jehová.
20Por tanto, he aquí yo te recogeré con tus padres, y tú serás recogido á tu sepulcro en paz, y no verán tus ojos todo el mal que yo traigo sobre este lugar. Y ellos dieron al rey la respuesta.
King James Version
1Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jedidah, the daughter of Adaiah of Boscath.
2And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.
3And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying,
4Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the silver which is brought into the house of the LORD, which the keepers of the door have gathered of the people:
5And let them deliver it into the hand of the doers of the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD: and let them give it to the doers of the work which is in the house of the LORD, to repair the breaches of the house,
6Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.
7Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully.
8And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.
9And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of them that do the work, that have the oversight of the house of the LORD.
10And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.
11And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.
12And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying,
13Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.
14So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.
15And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me,
16Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:
17Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.
18But to the king of Judah which sent you to enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard;
19Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.
20Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.

2He did that which was right in the LORD’s eyes, and walked in all the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left.
3In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the LORD’s house, saying,
4“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which is brought into the LORD’s house, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.
5Let them deliver it into the hand of the workers who have the oversight of the LORD’s house; and let them give it to the workers who are in the LORD’s house, to repair the damage to the house,
6to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house.
7However, no accounting shall be asked of them for the money delivered into their hand, for they deal faithfully.”
8Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the LORD’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.
9Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hands of the workmen who have the oversight of the LORD’s house.”
10Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Then Shaphan read it before the king.
11When the king had heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.
12The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,
13“Go inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the LORD’s wrath that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”
14So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her.
15She said to them, “The LORD the God of Israel says, ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,
16“The LORD says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.
17Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.’”
18But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, tell him, “The LORD the God of Israel says, ‘Concerning the words which you have heard,
19because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you,’ says the LORD.
20‘Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” So they brought this message back to the king.
