1Así que lo oyó el rey Ezequías , rasgó sus vestiduras, y se cubrió de un saco, y se fue a la casa del Señor.
2Y envió a Eliacim, su mayordomo mayor, y a Sobna, su secretario, y a los más ancianos de los sacerdotes cubiertos de sacos, a hablar a Isaías profeta, hijo de Amós,
3los cuales le dijeron: Esto dice Ezequías : Día es éste de tribulación, y de amenazas y de blasfemias; llegaron los hijos hasta el punto de nacer; pero la que está de parto no tiene fuerzas para darlos a luz.
4Mas el Señor Dios tuyo habrá sin duda oído todas las palabras de Rabsaces, enviado de su amo, el rey de los asirios, a ultrajar al Dios vivo, y a llenarlo de denuestos con las palabras que acaba de escuchar el Señor tu Dios; haz, pues oración por estos pocos israelitas que han quedado.
5Fueron, pues, con este mensaje los ministros del rey Ezequías a Isaías.
6Y les dijo Isaías: Esto diréis a vuestro amo: Así habla el Señor: No tienes que intimidarte por las palabras que has oído, con las cuales han blasfemado contra mí los criados del rey de los asirios.
7Yo voy a enviarle cierto espíritu, y oirá una nueva, y se volverá a su país, donde le haré parecer al filo de la espada.
8Entretanto Rabsaces, habiendo sabido que el rey de los asirios se había ido de Laquís, volvió, y lo halló batiendo a Lobna.
9Mas Sennaquerib, habiendo oído que Taraca, rey de Etiopía, había salido a campaña contra él al tiempo de marchar contra este rey envió embajadores a Ezequías , diciéndole:
10Esto diréis a Ezequías , rey de Judá: No te dejes engañar del Señor Dios tuyo, en quien pones tu confianza; y no digas: Jerusalén no será entregada en poder del rey de los asirios.
11Ya que tú mismo has oído lo que han hecho los reyes de los asirios en todos los demás países, y cómo los han asolado. ¿Serás por ventura tú solo el que podrás librarte?
12¿Acaso los dioses de las naciones libraron a algunas de aquellas que fueron exterminadas por mis padres, es a saber, a Gozán, y Harán, y Resef, y a los hijos de Edén que estaban en Telasar?
13¿Dónde está el rey de Emat, y el rey de Arfad, y el rey de la ciudad de Sefarvaím, y de Ana y de Ava?
14Luego que Ezequías recibió la carta de mano de los embajadores, y la hubo leído, se fue al templo del Señor, y la extendió delante del Señor,
15y oró en su acatamiento, diciendo: Señor Dios de Israel, que estás sentado sobre los querubines, tú eres el solo Dios de todos los reyes de la tierra; tú creaste el cielo y la tierra.
16Inclina tus oídos, y escucha: abre, ¡oh Señor!, tus ojos, y mira; oye todas las palabras blasfemas de Sennaquerib, el cual ha enviado a blasfemar entre nosotros del Dios vivo.
17Cierto es Señor, que los reyes de los asirios han desolado las gentes y todas sus tierras,
18y han arrojado al fuego a sus dioses, y los han destruido, porque no eran dioses, sino obras de la mano del hombre, hechas de madera y de piedra.
19Ahora, pues, ¡oh Señor Dios nuestro!, sálvanos de la mano de éste; para que sepan todos los reinos de la tierra que tú eres el Señor, el solo Dios.
20Entonces Isaías, hijo de Amós, envió a decir a Ezequías : Esto dice el Señor Dios de Israel: He oído la plegaria que me has hecho acerca de Sennaquerib, rey de los asirios.
21He aquí la sentencia que contra él ha pronunciado el Señor: La virgen hija de Sión te ha menospreciado y escarnecido; detrás de ti ha meneado su cabeza la hija de Jerusalén .
22¿A quién piensas que has insultado tú, y de quién has blasfemado? ¿Contra quién has levantado la voz y alzado en alto tus ojos insolentes? Contra el Santo de Israel.
23Por la boca de tus siervos has denostado al Señor, y has dicho: Con la muchedumbre de mis carros armados he subido sobre los montes encumbrados, a la cima del Líbano, y he cortado sus altos cedros y sus mejores abetos o hayas; he penetrado hasta sus últimos extremos; y las frondosas selvas de su Carmelo
24yo las he cortado. Yo he bebido las aguas ajenas, y con mi tránsito he agotado todas las aguas encerradas.
25Pues, ¿no has oído decir tú lo que yo hice desde el principio ? Desde antes de los siglos primeros tengo yo ideado esto para castigo suyo, y ahora lo ejecuto; las ciudades fuertes por sus valerosos combatientes, quedarán reducidas a unas colinas desiertas.
26Y los que las habitaban, quedando faltos de fuerza en sus brazos, temblaron y se amilanaron; y vinieron a quedar como el heno del campo y como la hierba verde de los tejados, que se seca antes de llegar a sazón.
27Yo desde el principio preví también tu habitación, tus salidas y tus entradas y tu marcha, y el furor con que te alzarías contra mí.
28Tú has enloquecido contra mí, ha llegado hasta mis oídos el ruido de tu soberbia. Yo te pondré pues, un anillo en tus narices y una mordaza en tus labios, y te haré volver por el camino por donde viniste.
29A ti, oh Ezequías , te doy esta señal: Come este año lo que hallares, y el año siguiente lo que por sí mismo naciere; pero al tercer año sembrad y segad; plantad viñas y comed sus frutos.
30Y todo lo que restare de la casa de Judá, echará otra vez hondas raíces, y afuera producirá frutos;
31porque de Jerusalén saldrán unos restos de pueblo, y de ese monte Sión saldrá la gente que se ha de salvar. Esto es lo que hará por su pueblo el celo del Señor de los ejércitos.
32Por lo cual he aquí lo que acerca del rey de los asirios dice el Señor: No pondrá el pie en esta ciudad, ni disparará contra ella saeta alguna, ni el soldado cubierto con su broquel la asaltará ni la cercará con trincheras.
33Por el camino que ha venido se volverá, y no entrará en la ciudad, dice el Señor.
34Pues yo ampararé a esta ciudad, y la salvaré por amor de mí y por amor de David, siervo mío.
35En efecto, aquella noche vino el ángel del Señor, y mató en el campamento de los asirios a ciento ochenta y cinco mil hombres. Y levantándose muy de mañana el rey de los asirios Sennaquerib, vio todos aquellos cuerpos muertos, y levantó el campo, y se marchó;
36y volvió a Nínive, donde fijó su asiento,
37y mientras que estaba adorando en el templo a su Dios Nesroc, lo mataron a puñaladas sus hijos Adramelec y Sarasar, y huyeron a tierra de los armenios, reinando en su lugar su hijo Asaraddón.

1Y COMO el rey Ezechîas lo oyó, rasgó sus vestidos, y cubrióse de saco, y entróse en la casa de Jehová.
2Y envió á Eliacim el mayordomo, y á Sebna escriba, y á los ancianos de los sacerdotes, vestidos de sacos á Isaías profeta hijo de Amós,
3Que le dijesen: Así ha dicho Ezechîas: Este día es día de angustia, y de reprensión, y de blasfemia; porque los hijos han venido hasta la rotura, y la que pare no tiene fuerzas.
4Quizá oirá Jehová tu Dios todas las palabras de Rabsaces, al cual el rey de los Asirios su señor ha enviado para injuriar al Dios vivo, y á vituperar con palabras, las cuales Jehová tu Dios ha oído: por tanto, eleva oración por las reliquias que aun se hallan.
5Vinieron pues los siervos del rey Ezechîas á Isaías.
6E Isaías les respondió: Así diréis á vuestro señor: Así ha dicho Jehová; No temas por las palabras que has oído, con las cuales me han blasfemado los siervos del rey de Asiria.
7He aquí pondré yo en él un espíritu, y oirá rumor, y volveráse á su tierra: y yo haré que en su tierra caiga á cuchillo.
8Y regresando Rabsaces, halló al rey de Asiria combatiendo á Libna; porque había oído que se había partido de Lachîs.
9Y oyó decir de Thiraca rey de Ethiopía: He aquí es salido para hacerte guerra. Entonces volvió él, y envió embajadores á Ezechîas, diciendo:
10Así diréis á Ezechîas rey de Judá: No te engañe tu Dios en quien tú confías, para decir: Jerusalem no será entregada en mano del rey de Asiria.
11He aquí tú has oído lo que han hecho los reyes de Asiria á todas las tierras, destruyéndolas; ¿y has tú de escapar?
12¿Libráronlas los dioses de las gentes, que mis padres destruyeron, es á saber, Gozán, y Harán, y Reseph, y los hijos de Edén que estaban en Thalasar?
13¿Dónde está el rey de Hamath, el rey de Arphad, el rey de la ciudad de Sepharvaim, de Hena, y de Hiva?
14Y tomó Ezechîas las letras de mano de los embajadores; y después que las hubo leído, subió á la casa de Jehová, y extendiólas Ezechîas delante de Jehová.
15Y oró Ezechîas delante de Jehová, diciendo: Jehová Dios de Israel, que habitas entre los querubines, tú solo eres Dios de todos los reinos de la tierra; tú hiciste el cielo y la tierra.
16Inclina, oh Jehová, tu oído, y oye; abre, oh Jehová, tus ojos, y mira: y oye las palabras de Sennachêrib, que ha enviado á blasfemar al Dios viviente.
17Es verdad, oh Jehová, que los reyes de Asiria han destruído las gentes y sus tierras;
18Y que pusieron en el fuego á sus dioses, por cuanto ellos no eran dioses, sino obra de manos de hombres, madera ó piedra, y así los destruyeron.
19Ahora pues, oh Jehová Dios nuestro, sálvanos, te suplico, de su mano, para que sepan todos los reinos de la tierra que tú solo, Jehová, eres Dios.
20Entonces Isaías hijo de Amós envió á decir á Ezechîas: Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: Lo que me rogaste acerca de Sennachêrib rey de Asiria, he oído.
21Esta es la palabra que Jehová ha hablado contra él: Hate menospreciado, hate escarnecido la virgen hija de Sión; ha movido su cabeza detrás de ti la hija de Jerusalem.
22¿A quién has injuriado y á quién has blasfemado? ¿y contra quién has hablado alto, y has alzado en alto tus ojos? Contra el Santo de Israel.
23Por mano de tus mensajeros has proferido injuria contra el Señor, y has dicho: Con la multitud de mis carros he subido á las cumbres de los montes, á las cuestas del Líbano; y cortaré sus altos cedros, sus hayas escogidas; y entraré á la morada de su término, al monte de su Carmel.
24Yo he cavado y bebido las aguas ajenas, y he secado con las plantas de mis pies todos los ríos de lugares bloqueados.
25¿Nunca has oído que mucho tiempo ha yo lo hice, y de días antiguos lo he formado? Y ahora lo he hecho venir, y fué para desolación de ciudades fuertes en montones de ruinas.
26Y sus moradores, cortos de manos, quebrantados y confusos, fueron cual hierba del campo, como legumbre verde, y heno de los tejados, que antes que venga á madurez es seco.
27Yo he sabido tu asentarte, tu salir y tu entrar, y tu furor contra mí.
28Por cuanto te has airado contra mí, y tu estruendo ha subido á mis oídos, yo por tanto pondré mi anzuelo en tus narices, y mi bocado en tus labios, y te haré volver por el camino por donde viniste.
29Y esto te será por señal Ezechîas: Este año comerás lo que nacerá de suyo, y el segundo año lo que nacerá de suyo; y el tercer año haréis sementera, y segaréis, y plantaréis viñas, y comeréis el fruto de ellas.
30Y lo que hubiere escapado, lo que habrá quedado de la casa de Judá, tornará á echar raíz abajo, y hará fruto arriba.
31Porque saldrán de Jerusalem reliquias, y los que escaparán, del monte de Sión: el celo de Jehová de los ejércitos hará esto.
32Por tanto, Jehová dice así del rey de Asiria: No entrará en esta ciudad, ni echará saeta en ella; ni vendrá delante de ella escudo, ni será echado contra ella baluarte.
33Por el camino que vino se volverá, y no entrará en esta ciudad, dice Jehová.
34Porque yo ampararé á esta ciudad para salvarla, por amor de mí, y por amor de David mi siervo.
35Y aconteció que la misma noche salió el ángel de Jehová, é hirió en el campo de los Asirios ciento ochenta y cinco mil; y como se levantaron por la mañana, he aquí los cuerpos de los muertos.
36Entonces Sennachêrib, rey de Asiria se partió, y se fué y tornó á Nínive, donde se estuvo.
37Y aconteció que, estando él adorando en el templo de Nisroch su dios, Adramelech y Saresar sus hijos lo hirieron á cuchillo; y huyéronse á tierra de Ararat. Y reinó en su lugar Esar-hadón su hijo.

1And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
2And he sent Eliakim, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
3And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.
4It may be the LORD thy God will hear all the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God; and will reprove the words which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
5So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
6And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
7Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.
8So Rab-shakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.
9And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, he is come out to fight against thee: he sent messengers again unto Hezekiah, saying,
10Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God in whom thou trustest deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
11Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly: and shalt thou be delivered?
12Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed; as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar?
13Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivah?
14And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.
15And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.
16LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.
17Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands,
18And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
19Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only.
20Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria I have heard.
21This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin the daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
22Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.
23By thy messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.
24I have digged and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of besieged places.
25Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps.
26Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded; they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.
27But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.
28Because thy rage against me and thy tumult is come up into mine ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.
29And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves, and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof.
30And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
31For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this.
32Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.
33By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.
34For I will defend this city, to save it, for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.
35And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
36So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.
37And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead.

1When King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the LORD’s house.
2He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.
3They said to him, “Hezekiah says, ‘Today is a day of trouble, of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to deliver them.
4It may be the LORD your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”
5So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.
6Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master this: ‘The LORD says, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
7Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he will hear news, and will return to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’”
8So Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.
9When he heard it said of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “Behold, he has come out to fight against you,” he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,
10“Tell Hezekiah king of Judah this: ‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.
11Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Will you be delivered?
12Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed—Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?
13Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?’”
14Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to the LORD’s house, and spread it before the LORD.
15Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, “LORD, the God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.
16Incline your ear, LORD, and hear. Open your eyes, LORD, and see. Hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to defy the living God.
17Truly, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,
18and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.
19Now therefore, LORD our God, save us, I beg you, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, LORD, are God alone.”
20Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “The LORD, the God of Israel, says ‘You have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, and I have heard you.
21This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him: ‘The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.
22Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel!
23By your messengers, you have defied the Lord, and have said, “With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon, and I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.
24I have dug and drunk strange waters, and I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt with the sole of my feet.”
25Haven’t you heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.
26Therefore their inhabitants had little power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were like the grass of the field and like the green herb, like the grass on the housetops and like grain blasted before it has grown up.
27But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.
28Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.’
29“This will be the sign to you: This year, you will eat that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs from that; and in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
30The remnant that has escaped of the house of Judah will again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
31For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go out, and out of Mount Zion those who shall escape. The LORD’s zeal will perform this.
32“Therefore the LORD says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there. He will not come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.
33He will return the same way that he came, and he will not come to this city,’ says the LORD.
34‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for my servant David’s sake.’”
35That night, the LORD’s angel went out and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.
36So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, went home, and lived at Nineveh.
37As he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.
